Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome back to another episode of Chasing Eating, where we
reconnect with the ancient healing wisdom of the earth and
integrate it with a modern path to wellness. I'm your host,
Carolyn Thompson, and today we're exploring one of the most enchanting, potent,
and versatile wellness tools nature has to offer, essential oils.

(00:33):
In this episode will dive deep into the history of
essential oils, the best types to keep in your apothecary,
the importance of purity, and their powerful uses for your health, beauty, mood,
energy and longevity. So whether you're new to oils or
you've already filled a drawer with tiny amber bottles, this

(00:55):
episode will offer guidance, inspiration, and practical wisdom to elevate
your everyday life. Essential oils have been used for more
than five thousand years. In fact, some of the most
advanced civilizations on record, Ancient Egypt, India, Persia, Greece and China,

(01:16):
have recognized the power of plant essences. In ancient Egypt,
essential oils were central to rituals, medicine and beauty. Frankincense, muhr, cedar,
wood and rose were used to embomb royalty and anoint priests.
Cleopatra's legendary beauty regime included rose oil and murr for

(01:41):
skin renewal. In the Bible, oils like frankincense, mr Spikenard,
and hissip are referenced over two hundred times. The three
gifts brought to Christ gold, Frankinson's and murr were not
merely symbolic, but practical and medicinal. In India, Iravita classified

(02:05):
essential oils as volatile principles used to balance dosies, calm
the mind, and stimulate digestion. Fast forward to twentieth century
France and a chemist nee Brene Maurice Gattefosse, accidentally discovered
lavender oil's healing power after burning his hand. His results

(02:26):
led to the term we now know as aromatherapy. I
have a little bit something to say about this as
far as burning your hand. I like to cook, and
I burned my hand pretty badly last Christmas. So I
did an internet search and at doctorax dot com I

(02:47):
found a homemade staff. Luckily, I had all of the
ingredients on hand, and I quickly mixed together the ingredients
of two ounces of honey, two tablespoons of extra virgin
olive oil, well and twenty drops of lavender essential oil,
and I now have it in a glass jar next
to the stove, and I will say I have used

(03:09):
it a couple more times since and the results are
pretty impressive. I did notice the inflammation went away pretty quickly.
The burn was lifted out of my pain. I couldn't
feel the burn anymore pretty fast, I'd have to say,
I want to say within thirty minutes. It was pretty impressive.

(03:31):
So if this is something you are into natural remedies,
you could go on over to doctor x dot com,
type in burnsav and mix up some for yourself. Now,
getting back to essential oils, which we know are not new,
they're ancient tools distilled wisdom from nature. Some of the

(03:51):
top essential oils have some pretty incredible healing powers, so
let's walk through some of them. They're the most powerful
and beloved essential oils that are the most common or
most known. Each essential oil has its own fingerprint, its
own chemistry, its own aroma and effect on the human

(04:14):
body and mind. Lavender, which is one of my favorite
essential oils, is calming, sedative, anti inflammatory, as we know
from the burnt sapp promotes sleep, soothes the skin, and
reduces anxiety. This is a really great oil to put

(04:37):
in one of those those little dispensers that miss out
your oil. Really really great way to smell it and
have a calming effect on you, perhaps maybe before bed
to help you sleep better. Frankinsense is great for cellular regeneration,
immune support, a calming aid. It read juice, is inflammation,

(05:01):
and it helps with scars and aging skin. I have
spoken to many women who actually will just take Frankinson's
and put it around their eye area and they swear
by its ability to reduce the signs of wrinkling. Lemon
is another great essential oil. It's really good for cleansing.
It works great in homemade toners. It's detoxifying, it uplifts

(05:26):
your mood. It's a natural disinfectant and a lymphatic stimulant.
Peppermint is very energizing. It's a great way to wake
up with the smell of peppermint. It's cooling, wonderful during
the summertime when it's hot out. Great for digestion. It
helps relieve headaches, nausea, and fatigue. Eucalyptus helps to clear

(05:52):
the respiratory tract. It's anti viral. It's excellent during cold
and flu season. Rose. It's an antidepressant, its skin nourishing,
hormone balancing. It's called oftentimes the Queen of oils for
its ability to aid in beauty and emotions. Cleary sage.

(06:19):
It balances estrogen. It's great for PMS and menopause. It's sedative,
and it's a muscle relaxant. Tea tree also known as Meleluca,
is antibacterial, anti fungal, and anti viral. It's excellent for
acne wounds and also it's healing for the scalp elaye elaying.

(06:45):
It's an aphrodisiac, it's calming, it's mood balancing. It's used
in perfumery and emotional healing. Another one I don't have
experience using this one, I'll admit. It's called helichrysm. It's
great for tissue regeneration. It's anti bruising, a scar reducer.

(07:08):
It's often called liquid stitches for its wound healing capacity.
Very interesting. That's one I'd say I might want to
take a deep dive into. It sounds very interesting. Each
oil contains hundreds of natural compounds esters, terpenes, alcohols, key tones.
They act synergistically on the body and mind. This is

(07:31):
why one oil can offer antibacterial, anti inflammatory, and mood
elevating benefits all at once. Keep in mind when it
comes to essential oils, purity matters. Here's the thing. Not
all oils are created equal. The essential oil industry is

(07:53):
largely unregulated, meaning many products on shelves are labeled one
hundred percent pure, but they're diluted, synthely fragranced, or contaminated
with pesticides. Here's how to protect your body and investment.
Look for gc MS testing or gas chromatography mass spectrometry.

(08:18):
Choose oils labeled therapeutic grade or higher. Buy from companies
that are transparent about sourcing and distillation. Prioritize organic and
wildcrafted oils. Avoid oils in clear bottles or labeled fragrance oil.

(08:38):
Oils like oregano, cinnamon, and thyme are hot oils and
must be diluted with a carrier like cohoba or coconut oil.
Citrus oils like lemon and bergamont can cause photosensitivity when
applied before sun exposure. Purity isn't just about effectiveness, it's

(09:00):
about safety. Let's explore how you can use essential oils
in real life every single day diffusion. Invest in a diffuser.
Start your morning with peppermint and lemon in the diffuser
to boost energy and focus. Wind down with lavender and

(09:20):
frankincense at night for a RESTful sleep. You can apply
essential oils topically. Mix tea tree and lavender for acne
prone skin. Massage rosemary and cedar wood into the scalp
for hair growth. Apply frankincense and helochrism to fine lines
and scars. You can also inhale them. Carry an aromatherapy

(09:42):
inhaler with bergamont and e lingling for anxiety. Inhale eucalyptus
during congestion for relief. You can add them to your baths.
Add five to ten drops of camomal rose or geranium
to epsom salts for luxurious soak. Immune support, you can
dilute oregano, clove and lemon on the soles of your feet.

(10:06):
During flu season, use blends like Thieves or on Guard
to purify the air and boost immunity. Essential oils aren't
just nice smelling extras. They're adaptogenic, intelligent plant medicine. Use
them with intention and they'll elevate your energy emotions. And
immune system. Essential oils are a core part of many

(10:29):
ancient beauty secrets and for good reason. For glowing skin, frankinsons,
rose and mirror boost collagen and fade fine lines. Carrot
seed oil supports sun damaged skin. Tea tree oil helps
balance acne in sebum levels. And for your hair, rosemary
em pepperment increase scalp circulation, which we know helps win

(10:52):
hair growth. Cedar wood helps with dandriff and the thickness
of your hair. For hormone balance, US oils like clary sage,
elanulaying and geranium regulate estrogen and boost libido. Vivitets, also
known as chaste. Tree oil helps to support the female

(11:16):
intocrine system for a longevity. Clove and oreganor among the
highest antioxidant oils. Frankincence helps maintain dnaate integrity. Rose oil
is known to raise vibrational frequency and emotional resilience. Essential
oils help reduce inflammation, stress, and oxidative damage the trifecta

(11:39):
of aging. So here are some closing reflections and takeaways.
Essential oils are more than fragrance. Fragrance. They are the
distillation of plant life force Concentrated botanical medicine that offers
healing for the body, peace for the mind, and restoration
for the spirit. Start simple, choose two to three essential

(12:03):
oils that resonate with you, and then begin to incorporate
them into your regular daily routine routine. Over time, you'll
build a relationship with these oils. You'll know intuitively what
you need, whether it's peppermint to revive, lavender to calm,
or Frankinson's to pray. So, once again, thank you for
