Ever stumbled upon a $30 wine selling for just $9? That's exactly what happened with the Saldo Australia Shiraz 2021, and I couldn't wait to share this remarkable find with you.

This isn't just any discount bottle. The Saldo Australia Shiraz comes from The Prisoner Wine Company, once the passion project of Dave Phinney – the same winemaking genius behind Orin Swift. When Phinney sold The Prisoner brand to Constellation Brands for a staggering $233 million, it spoke volumes about the quality and reputation he had built. While Phinney has moved on, the exceptional standards remain, evidenced by their prestigious tasting room sitting proudly alongside Napa Valley's elite wineries.

What makes this Shiraz truly special is its pedigree. Sourcing grapes from Australia's renowned Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, and Limestone Coast regions, this wine delivers a complexity that belies its current price point. Upon opening, you're greeted with a deep, brooding character that unfolds beautifully with decanting. The flavor profile is nothing short of mesmerizing – cassis, black licorice, and dark cola notes form the foundation, while subtle hints of berry fruits and vanilla add dimension. The mouthfeel is substantial without being overwhelming, with well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity that showcase thoughtful winemaking.

Have you found yourself looking for that perfect wine to serve on cool autumn evenings when friends gather? This might be it. The Saldo Australia Shiraz offers that rare combination of accessibility and sophistication that makes wine sharing so memorable. Think of it as the liquid equivalent of a triple chocolate brownie – rich, indulgent, and utterly satisfying. Whether paired with a hearty steak or simply enjoyed on its own, this wine delivers an experience well beyond its current price tag. Check out CheapWineFinder.com for the link to this exceptional deal while it lasts, and let me know if you manage to snag some bottles for yourself!

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, it's Domain Dave CheapWineFindercom, with a kind
of a fun one today, a littlebit different in a certain way,
we got well, this isn't exactlya value price wine but it is for
some reason, and actually Ihave a link in the
CheapWineFindercom website tosay it's still on and what we
have today is the SaldoAustralia Shiraz 2021.

(00:24):
Is the saldo australia shiraz2021?
Saldo is one of the brands ofthe prisoner wine company.
The prisoner was is, but at onepoint it was the rage.
It was dave finney, who alsodoes oran swift.
This is his brand and he's arock star winemaker and the

(00:46):
Prisoner is this big, bold, fruit, forward but somehow
impossibly balanced wine and itwould sell out every year and
they would have big parties forthe release when it came out and
then everybody would buy it andthey'd have to wait a while to
get it and Dave Finney sold outfor like 233 million dollars to

(01:08):
constellation brands.
Constellation brands was a bigplayer in the wine business.
They recently sold off a lot oftheir more value price wines,
um brands, but they kept the uh,the prisoner wine company with
their.
There's three or four brandsinvolved with this.
Dave Finney, which also didOren Swift wines, sold Oren

(01:31):
Swift to Ian J Gale.
I don't know for how much, buthe is still the winemaker at
Oren Swift.
He's no longer the winemaker atSaldo and the Prisoner, which
is kind of one of the reasonswhy you don't hear about it as
much, but it's still a soughtafter wine.
It's just not the uh, you know, just not the sensation it once

(01:52):
was.
And the reason why this is inthe cheap wine finder because
it's a 30 list price wine atbenny's in chicago it was
selling for 8.99 still is.
If you go to the website, there's a link and you can I
mean I would have to, I mean tobuy it from Benny's.
You know, have it shipped.
You'd have to buy enoughbottles, but this is a $30 wine

(02:16):
for nine bucks.
So how is it?
And the answer it is.
It's big, deep and dark.
This is a dark brewing Shirazaz.
It is, um, they don't have aton of technical notes on this.
They tell me it's from the.
It's from, uh, barossa and theClare Valley and the Limestone

(02:36):
Coast.
So it's it.
They're picking out different,um, different vineyards in
Australia, but they're probablypicking out pretty good ones,
because Constellation Brand is aplayer and this is a wine that
has a reputation and if you godown Route 29 in Napa Valley you
will see the Prisoner TastingRoom in Napa with all the other

(02:59):
ones, all the Opus Ones and allthat, so that there I you're
gonna take a sip.
It's finally opening up alittle bit.

(03:22):
This is a deep, dark, dense wine.
It is cassis.
This is black licorice Cola, but not sweet, without sweetener
, just the cola, like flat cola, but not that's kind of what I'm
going for here.
Maybe some strawberry orraspberry just to perk it up,
maybe a touch of vanilla Faintjust to give it a little

(03:42):
sweetness.
Blueberry.
But it's just dark, dark wineand it's kind of got a thicker
mouthfeel to it, not super thick.
When I first had it I thoughtthat this is like a fortified
wine a little bit.
But now that it's opening upand I had it open for for two
hours before I started drinkingthis thing so if I were you, if

(04:03):
you have the opportunity todecant it or run it through some
kind of system that opens it up, I would do that, because once
you do get it open, it's kind ofan enticing wine.
It has a good flavor, deep anddark, and what I was thinking
about it's so of an enticingwine.
It has a good flavor, deep anddark.
And what I was thinking about.
It's so deep and dark and it'skind of um.
This fall, when it's maybe 50outside, you got a jacket on.

(04:26):
A couple of neighbors come over, you pop the top on a bottle
and this will kind of keep youwarm on a cool, cool, cool night
.
I'm'm gonna take another sip.
Yeah, that's got.

(04:53):
It's got good flavor, but it'sjust.
It's just this dense, dark.
If I was gonna give an analogyhere, I would say this is like a
triple chocolate brownie or afudge chocolate cake.
You know where you gotchocolate on top of chocolate on
top of chocolate.
You're not really gettingchocolate here.
You're getting, uh, blackberryand cassis and blueberry and
those kind of things, but it'sdense and it's kind of um, it's

(05:14):
kind of rich, it's kind of youknow, and it's a 2021.
So it's been in, uh, it's beenin the.
I don't know how long it was anoak, I don't know how long they
it's been in the bottle, but a220.
2021 is not a current vintagefor the cheap wine finder wines

(05:34):
we usually do right now.
We're probably hitting 2023wines.
So what do you got here?
So for nine bucks, you got awine well worth giving a try.
It is not your typical valueprice wine.
This is not made to be a valueprice.
This is made to be dark andbroody and this is made to be
decanted.
This is made to share withfriends.
I don't know, man, it wouldprobably be a good steak wine.

(05:55):
Dark and brooding, this is madeto be decanted.
This is made to share withfriends.
I don't know, it would probablybe a good steak wine.
I'm taking another sip.
Yeah, something that wouldstand up to this, because this
does have.
It's got good tannins, it's gotgood acidity, it's a well made

(06:17):
wine, but it's just way deeperand darker and more brooding
than your typical value pricedfair.
So there you go the saldoaustralia shiraz 2021 899 at
bennies in chicago.
The link to the ad is in thewebsite cheapwinefindercom.
So there you go.
Like us, if you like yourpodcast, I've got more wines

(06:37):
coming.
All these spit out eight newwines.
We're not doing anything formonths, so we'll be hitting that
for a while and do some funthings there.
So, adios, keep it cheap andI'll be talking to you.
