The pursuit of success without creating value is empty and meaningless, while focusing on bringing value to others leads to genuine success that chases you naturally. By shifting from asking "what can I get" to "what can I give," we create lasting impact rather than chasing fleeting recognition.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Life is waiting for you each day and you have to
prepare for each challenge alongthe way towards success.
It's not simple, but it can bedone.
Welcome to my Common SenseMotivation episodes.
I'm Chris Fantastic Powell.
I once read a quote thatrecommitted me to the direction
of my life.
It said Strive not to be asuccess, but rather to be a

(00:25):
value, by Lao Tzu.
Most people are chasing successas if it's a trophy they can
place on a shelf.
They measure themselves bytitles, by cars, by houses and
by applause.
But here's the truth Successwithout value is empty.
It's noise without music.

(00:46):
It's a shell with nothinginside.
When you shift your focus fromsuccess to value, everything
changes.
Success looks for recognition.
Value looks for contribution.
Success asks what can I get.
Value asks what can I give?
And here's the secret Mostpeople who bring value will

(01:08):
never need to chase success.
Success will come chasing themBecause value is permanent.
It leaves fingerprints onpeople's lives.
It creates doors that open whenstatus and position would slam
them shut.
Think about it when the stormcomes, people don't call the
person with the biggest car, thefanciest title or the loudest

(01:31):
voice.
They call the person of value, the one who shows up with
solutions, with heart, withintegrity.
Here's a story.
A young woman named Dana.
Dana grew up with fire in herheart.
From the moment she could dream, she told herself she would be
successful.
She chased grades in schools, trophies on fields and applause

(01:54):
in every room.
By the time she entered thecorporate world, she had the
title, the salary, the car andeven the corner office.
And on the outside she lookedlike she had won, but inside she
was restless.
At night, when the applausefaded and the email stopped.
She asked herself is this it?
Is this all success has tooffer?

(02:17):
One day, her company faced acrisis.
Systems failed, clientspanicked, leaders froze, and in
that moment no one cared abouther title, her office or her car
.
What people needed wasn'tsuccess.
They needed value.
Dana rolled up her sleeves.
She listened, she encouraged, she brought solutions instead of

(02:37):
panic.
She stayed long after othersquit, not for recognition, but
because she cared about thepeople who depended on her.
Quit not for recognition, butbecause she cared about the
people who depended on her.
And here's what happened.
Trust grew, respect followed, opportunities opened, success.

(02:59):
The very thing she once chasednow came chasing her, not
because of her position, butbecause of her value.
Her story reminds us all whenthe storm comes, people don't
call the one with the biggestresume or the loudest voice.
They call the one who shows upwith integrity, with heart and
with answers.
So don't just chase thespotlight.
Be the reasons.
Delights turn on for others.

(03:19):
Be the person whose presenceleaves a mark and whose absence
creates a void, because successit fades, but value it lasts
forever.
Make it happen.
