Well, let's jump right intotoday's topic.
You know Christian businessleaders have a very unique
opportunity to impact theiremployees, to impact others, by

(02:15):
integrating biblical principlesinto their leadership.
You know most of all of theparables that you read in the
Bible that Jesus spoke.
Most of them use some form of abusiness to get his point
across.
Business was a very big part ofthe day back then.

(02:39):
You either were in business foryourself or you worked for a
business.
So business was very big backthen.
But business, you know, if youowned a business whether you
were, you herded sheep orwhether you had cattle or camels
or crops or whatever you had alot of influence over your

(03:00):
employees.
You can see that in the NewTestament, where whole
households gave their life toChrist under the leadership of
the owner of the business.
When the Bible talks about inthe Old and the New Testament,
when it talks about a household,that also meant the servants
and the employees and the family, so it meant everyone, and so

(03:24):
if you really look at that inthe Word of God, it really dealt
a lot with business, which iswhy we have a heart here at CBC
to do what we're doing, and sothis business leader, a business
leader's role.
It extends beyond justoverseeing the operations and
driving profitability.
If you're going to be effective, effective leadership really

involves adding value toemployees and other stakeholders
, where you foster thisenvironment of growth and
motivation and mutual successyou know the Bible talks about
in 1 Thessalonians, 5 and 11,.
It says therefore, encourageone another and build one

(04:11):
another up, just as you aredoing so.
Today we want to talk about howyou add value, the importance of
adding value and how thataffects other people's lives and
even your own life.
Hal Elrod said one time alwaysseek people who will add value

(04:33):
to your life and bring the bestin you and, of course, be that
person for others.
So we should always be lookingto add value to people's life.
Whether you're a leader,whether you're a manager,
whether you're an employee, youalways want to look for how you
can add value to other people'slives.

(04:53):
Now, why is that important inbusiness?
Well, when you add value topeople around you your employees
, your vendors, your customers,when you try to add value, what
happens is number one you havebetter employee engagement and
you retain your employees.

(05:15):
You know when they feel like,when employees feel like they're
valued, they just become moreproductive and they're more
likely to remain within yourorganization.
So you don't have to hire newpeople all the time and train
people all the time.
The next thing is you have anenhanced workplace culture.

(05:36):
So then you begin to have aculture of appreciation and
growth.
And what does that do?
Well, that leads to a morepositive work environment.
You have people that arecollaborating, and then the next
positive thing is that you getimproved performance.
You know, when people andemployees receive consistent

(05:58):
support, they get consistentdevelopment opportunities.
They tend to perform at ahigher level.
Then you also have reputation,your reputation and business
growth.
You know, a leader who investsin their team fosters a very
strong employer brand.

(06:19):
It becomes part of your brand,and we'll talk about some of
those companies today.
But you'll also attract the toptalent, which is what you want
to in your business.
And then when you do that,you're really when you do these
things you're really creatingmore of a long-term success

(06:50):
success.
So that's why adding value isimportant.
And why should business leadersChristian business leaders, you
know why should they createvalue?
Well, first of all, you have abiblical mandate for servant
leadership.
You know Jesus exemplifiedservant leadership, you know, in
Mark 10, 45, he says for eventhe Son of man did not come to
be served, but to serve.
So Christian leaders are calledto follow Christ's example.

(07:13):
You need to prioritize serviceover your own self-interest.
And true leadership is reallyabout lifting up others and
fostering this spirit ofhumility and stewardship there
within your organization.

(07:34):
Number two reflecting God's loveand business.
You know that doesn't make youa pushover.
But you know, when youdemonstrate compassion and
integrity in your business, italigns.
It aligns with the word of God.
Matthew 5 and 16 says let yourlight shine before others that
they may see your good deeds andglorify your Father in heaven.

(07:57):
And part of reflecting thisGod's love in business is your
ethical decision-making, yourfair treatment of employees.
See, this all creates atestimony that attracts others
not only to your business butattracts others to Christ.
You know, employees andcustomers alike are drawn to

(08:18):
businesses that operate withauthenticity and that operate
with biblical principles, eventhough they may not understand
exactly what you're doing, butthey notice that you have a
different company and adifferent culture.
And then, number three, you'refulfilling the Great Commission
through your business.
You know, christian leadershave this unique opportunity to

(08:40):
share their faith by how theyconduct their business and treat
others.
It's in your actions andworkplaces can become a mission
field.
I mean, you know, and that wayyour employees, your clients,
they see firsthand the impact offaith-driven leadership.

(09:02):
Colossians 3.23,.
You've heard me say it manytimes before whatever you do,
work at it with all your heartas working for the Lord, not for
human masters.
It's important that what you'redoing right now in your
business, you're doing and youwork for the Lord and for God's

(09:22):
glory, and that is part of yourpurpose, or should be part of
your purpose.
So what are some of these areas?
That's what I want to talkabout.
What are the main areas thatyou can add value to people in
your life?
What are some of the areaswhere you can add value?

(09:43):
Well, first of all, there'smentally, and when I mean
mentally, I mean your personalgrowth, a person's personal
growth and mindset.
You know you're encouragingself-improvement, you're helping
them to become confident,You're helping them with
emotional intelligence andyou're helping them to have a

(10:06):
positive mindset, and when youdo these things, you can help
people grow and really I wouldconsider to be the best version
of that person and the ways thatyou can add value mentally
through personal growth andmindset.
Number one is to encouragecontinuous learning.

(10:26):
You need to provide training,maybe have some mentorship,
development opportunities.
So that's one thing.
Another is to promote thisgrowth mindset.
So how do you do that?
Well, you help your employeesto embrace challenges and help
them to learn from mistakes andsetbacks.
Next, it's you model, modelintegrity, model, ethical

(10:50):
leadership.
And to do that, you lead.
Lead with example, lead byexample, be honest, have
humility and a servant's heart.
And then you need to inspire.
Inspire with a faith-basedencouragement.
Faith-based encouragement.

(11:11):
Offer words of wisdom, givethem biblical encouragement
during meetings and interactions.
You don't even have to quotescripture.
There's plenty in the Word ofGod that talks about how you can
encourage others and you caninstill wisdom and knowledge
into them, and you should dothat.
You can offer training programsto help them to just enhance

(11:36):
their skills.
And another big thing isencourage work-life balance.
You know, don't encourage youremployees to put all their
energy into work, but help themto have a good balance between
work and life.
Employees to put all theirenergy into work, but help them
to have a good balance betweenwork and life.
That's important.
And then support them when theywant to get further and
additional education or maybesome certifications.

(11:59):
You know, help them.
Help them with those efforts,support them with those efforts.
You know Truett, cathy, who wasthe founder of Chick-fil-A.
We all know about Chick-fil-Abeing a Christian business, but
you know, cathy, you know hefocused on faith-driven business
practices.
You know he.

(12:20):
You know faithfully, still tothis day they're closed on
Sundays.
He established scholarshipprograms for employees and
contributed to various youth andfamily charities and his
company provides very strongvalues, a lot of leadership
training and servant leadershiptraining.

(12:42):
So he is a great example ofthat.
But you want to invest and youwant to add value mentally.
Next, you want to add valuephysically, that's their health
and their well-being.
So you want to be supportive ofphysical, mental and emotional

(13:03):
health through good habits,through fitness and nutrition,
being mindful of their bodiesand self-care, and some ways to
do that and to add value.
That way is, again, you want tosupport this work-life balance.
Don't just talk about it, but Imean be serious about it.
Do something, you knowencourage flexible work

(13:27):
schedules, encourage reasonableworkloads and taking on the
right amount.
Then you can promote physicaland mental wellness.
You know you can providewellness programs, mental health
resources, encourage healthyhabits.
You know a lot of healthinsurance companies out there
right now have all kinds ofprograms to help people to quit

(13:48):
smoking, for example, and theywill help you reward your
employees for that, and sothere's some things like that
that you can do and look intoand then you just create this
positive work culture, create anenvironment of trust and
respect and encouragement.
That way they'll believe inwhat you're trying to help them

(14:09):
with and then pray for and withyour employees.
There's nothing wrong with that.
That's not against the law.
If they want you to pray forthem, you certainly can.
You can offer prayer andsupport for employees in times
of need.
There's companies out there whoprovide chaplains.
You know there are people thathand out prayer cards at the

(14:33):
beginning of every week.
Those are collected and givento the owner or to some of the
leadership and those people prayfor those employees, you know,
throughout the week.
You know a lot of people knowHeinz Heinz Company.
It's a big, mult-billion dollarcompany.
But Henry Heinz, the founder ofHJ Heinz Company, he had a lot

(14:57):
of faith-based businesspractices.
You know he was a devoutChristian.
He founded the Heinz Companywith a commitment to quality and
integrity because he felt likethat's what he owed the Lord.
He attributed his success tohis faith, with a commitment to
quality and integrity, becausehe felt like that's what he owed
the Lord.
He attributed his success tohis faith and he implemented a
lot of Christian principles inhis business operations.
He had a great employee welfareprogram.

(15:19):
He was known for reallytreating his employees with
respect and fairness andproviding a lot of amenities
like free medical care.
He had recreational facilities,educational opportunities, even
in the community.
He engaged a lot in thecommunity, where he actively
participated in the World SundaySchool Movement, and he

(15:42):
emphasized the importance ofmoral education and community
involvement, of moral educationand community involvement.
Now, the next area of a person'slife that you can add value is
what I call the interpersonalpart, which is relationships and

(16:02):
social life.
So you're helping people buildstronger connections, improve
their communication skills andto know how to nurture and have
a meaningful relationship withfamily, with friends, with
co-workers and with other people.
That's the interpersonal partthat you can add value.

(16:25):
How do you do that?
Well, again, you lead withservant leadership.
Prioritize serving your teamrather than exercising power
over them, encourage teamwork,encourage collaboration.
You foster a culture of thisand it creates a lot of unity,
it creates cooperation.

(16:45):
And then be a mentor, be a rolemodel.
You don't have to do that witheverybody, but you should have
someone you mentor in your life,guide and support employees
beyond just their workresponsibilities.
I know that the person that Iworked for for over 23 years or
22 years is a person that Ihighly respect, and he was not,

(17:12):
you know, I didn't agree witheverything that he did, but one
of the things that he did for methat I was so appreciative of
is that he helped me and therewere times that I got a lot of
good advice from him forpersonal things, not just work
responsibilities, but personalthings.
He really helped me in my lifein some critical times in my

(17:33):
life and you know he was justtremendous in that way and he
was a great mentor.
You know, to me Never foundanybody like that since, to be
quite honest.
And then you want to engage incommunity outreach.
You know, organize some charityevents, maybe some mission
trips or any kind of serviceinitiatives to give back to the

(17:59):
community.
You know David Green.
He was the founder of HobbyLobby.
You know Green built HobbyLobby based on Christian
principles.
Again, they closed on Sundays.
That was a big thing to them.
He insured fair wages foremployees and he's donated
hundreds of millions of dollarsto Christian ministries and

(18:21):
mission work.
And his leadership reallyreflects servant leadership and
he believed in adding value toemployees and customers and it
was much more important to himthan the profits.
Now, the next area of somebody'slife that you can help develop
and add value is financially.

(18:42):
You know we're talking careerand finances.
By providing guidance onprofessional development, help
them with financialunderstanding, you know, help
them to understand how financeswork and maybe help them to
understand entrepreneurship andwealth building to help them

(19:02):
create a stability in their lifeand help them create success.
So how can you do that?
How can you add value in thatarea?
Well, you can invest in thatemployee's growth.
You know you can pay for someleadership training.
There's also, you know,promotions when it fits it, when
it fits the situation, but youwant to have some professional

(19:24):
development opportunities.
You know Ken Blanchard, a greatbusiness leader.
He said leadership is not aboutyou, it's about investing in
the growth of others, and Ibelieve that.
I believe that's one of thereasons we're here on this earth
.
The other thing that you need todo is offer some fair and very
ethical compensation.

(19:44):
Make sure that your employeesare paid fairly and they're
treated with dignity.
And then teach peoplestewardship.
Teach them how to understand,like I said, understand finances
and support innovation.
Empower your people.
Empower your employees with theresources and the knowledge to

(20:08):
start, or grow, maybe their ownbusiness.
That sometimes is harder to dobecause you don't want to let go
of a good employee but youdon't want to hold them back.
You don't want to hold themback.
And then be sure to supportcharitable initiatives.
Let the employees see that youdo that.
Encourage employees tovolunteer.
You know I have a niece thatworks for a large power company

(20:32):
and that company reallyencourages their employees.
They don't demand it, theycan't, but they do really
encourage their employees to bea big part of charities, and so
you can do the same thing.
You know Rich DeVos.
He was the co-founder of Amway,which he believed in value

(20:53):
driven leadership.
As a Christian, devos infusedhis faith into Amway's corporate
culture.
He promoted principles likeintegrity and responsibility and
stewardship.
He focused on empoweringindividuals through
entrepreneurship, because Amwaywas like having your own

(21:16):
business.
Actually, I knew a couple ofpeople who became very wealthy
through Amway and he believed inproviding a lot of
opportunities for financialindependence and personal growth
, which is one of the reasonsthat he even started Amway.
And then the next area of aperson's life that you can add

(21:39):
value to is their spiritual life.
You know, we're talking aboutspirituality, we're talking
about purpose.
Help them to find a deepermeaning in life, to help them to
find fulfillment and a sense ofpurpose through faith and
personal values or contributingto something that's bigger than
themselves.

(22:00):
You know, john F Kennedy saidefforts and courage are not
enough without purpose anddirection.
So how can we add value in thisarea?
Well, you can encourage faithin the workplace.
You can create optional Biblestudy groups.
You can have prayer meetings,daily devotionals.

(22:20):
Folks, let me tell you, that isnot against the law.
Actually, it's protected by law.
As long as you don't demandthat those people attend those
things, as long as you're notunfair that those people attend
those things, as long as you'renot unfairly giving promotions
to those who do and then not tothose who do not go and attend,

(22:40):
you can't do that, but you canmake them available.
You can even participate inthem, but you are protected by
law doing those things, and so Ijust want to encourage you.
I love to hear, when I hear,things about businesses who have
these Bible study groups andprayer meetings.

(23:02):
The other thing that you can dois you can lead, lead with
biblical principles and share.
Maybe the reason that you'remaking a change in the business
is because you know the Bibletalks about this or the Bible
talks about that.
Again, you're protected toshare those kinds of things, and
so they can see that thosedecisions that you make reflect

(23:23):
Christian values like honesty,like kindness and generosity,
and then foster a culture ofpurpose.
Help your employees see theirwork as part of a greater
mission and a greater calling,because we're all called.
We're all called I've said thisfor years we're all called to

(23:47):
be ministers, but we can becalled to minister to other
people in our jobs and through alot of other areas and ways,
and then support charities,support mission work, allocate
some of your company resourcesor profits towards some causes
that really align with Christianvalues.

(24:10):
You know Tim Tebow, nfl footballplayer, who is also the founder
of the Tim Tebow Foundation.
Though he's not really atraditional business leader, tim
Tebow has actually created afoundation that helps children
with disabilities and it reallyis attacking this human

(24:34):
trafficking.
So he helps the survivors ofthat, he works with orphans and
his leadership has reallyinspired businesses and
individuals to use theirbusiness, their platform, for
good.
So these are the areas that youhave that you can actually help

(24:55):

Now, you know, the other thingthat you need to do when you're
adding value is you need to gobeyond the workplace, you know,
get into the community, becomeinvolved in the community and
partner with some local thingsand local charities and sponsor
community service projects.
You know there's some goodcommunity projects and charities

(25:17):
that are out there that are notnecessarily church-oriented or
even Christian-oriented in thatway, but they're doing and
they're acting upon Christianprinciples, whether they know it
or not, and like a lot of thefood banks, those are great
charities to work with and thengo and maybe be involved in

(25:43):
evangelism.
So how can I do evangelism?
Well, first of all, just beChrist-like in your behavior.
Well, first of all, just beChristlike in your behavior and
you don't have to be aggressivetowards people and preach at
them or anything like that, butjust be open to have these

(26:03):
conversations about your faithand lead by example through
ethical and compassionate.
Be compassionate towards others.
Be a compassionate leader.
John Maxwell, who is a greatleadership expert and author,

(26:26):
he's globally really he's aroundthe world.
He's recognized as a greatleadership speaker and he
teaches Christian-basedleadership principles.
He's trained millions ofbusiness leaders to lead with
integrity and servant leadershipand purpose, and he uses his
platform to support faith-drivenleadership development globally
.
He has one ministry inparticular where they go into

(26:50):
other countries and they meetwith the government leaders to
teach them Christian leadershipprinciples, and that's something
that they do.
They don't charge thegovernments for it and it's all
a volunteer group of people thatgo, and so I just want to
encourage you to go outside thefour walls of your business and

(27:13):
be involved in some other things, and that I think you can do
and I think you'll be successfulat it.
You know, matthew 5, 14 through16 says you are the light of the
world.
A town built on a hill cannotbe hidden.
Neither do people light acandle and put it under a bowl.
Instead, they put it on itsstand and it gives light to

(27:36):
everyone in the house In thesame way.
Let your light shine beforeothers that they may see your
good deeds and glorify yourFather in heaven.
One of the most fulfillingthings that you will ever do in
this life is to add value toothers.
Fulfilling things that you willever do in this life is to add
value to others.
The quickest way to get to thelevel that you want to be at is

(27:57):
to help other people get totheir next level, and that
starts by adding value.
So just try to imagine anorganization that is taught this
and that has this kind ofculture.
And if we had businesses,thousands of businesses like
that around the world, whatwould our world be like?
It would definitely bedifferent than what we see today

(28:19):

You know, luke 6, 38 in theAmplified Bible says give and it
will be given to you.
They will pour into your lap agood measure, pressed down,
shaken together and running over, with no space left for more.
For with the same standard ofmeasurement you use when you do
good to others, it will bemeasured to you in return.

(28:41):
That's important for us tounderstand.
Lord, I come before you in thename of your son, jesus, and I
ask that those who have listenedto this podcast Lord, I pray
even as myself.
Lord, as we see our worlds,lord, help us to see the world
that we live in, lord, as thesegreat spheres of influence.

(29:03):
Lord, so help us to see it asfertile ground.
Lord, that we can add value toothers, not merely as
opportunities to get where wewant to go.
But, lord, help us to not beselfish in our ambitions and
help us to raise others.
Help us to raise others higher,lord, to lift them up in ways
that we can help them find yoursuccess in their lives.
