Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello, everyone, Welcome back to the Bros Music Christian Podcast.
I don't know I butchered that completely. I was trying
to do the name backwards, but I don't think it
worked real well. But Christian Music Gross Podcast with Brendan Burt.
I'm your host. I'm your only host. As I've had
some news I am. I have had a couple of
rounds of interviews and video calls with possible co hosts,

(00:23):
so stay tuned. I don't know if it's something I'm
gonna go forward with, or if if it's just gonna
be me, or if they're gonna be full time, part
time or what. But stay tuned. Up to the page
on Instagram Chrisian Music Grows Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
And you'll see more news.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
But today I am with the very special guests in
Miggie Sanchez. So I'm gonna let make you introduce himself
right now.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yo, what's up man? My name is Mickey Sanchez.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
I sing for the band Relent and I'm excited to
be here man.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yeah, thanks for joining me.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
And like I said, it's nice to finally meet with you.
We had time zone mishap. I think it has more
ties than I so it's.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Great today because time zones are crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Oh yeah, they're horrible.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Like I said earlier we were talking to I think
they're even more horrible when you're on tour and you
forget you know, Oh yeah, we got an hour to
get to the venue, not realizing it's already an hour ahead.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
You're ready late.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
So exactly, this is the first time I mess the
times out and it will be the last time. So
if we send into this, please don't mess up your
time zones. It's gonna happen that can. I know some
of you. I was looking at Spotify stats. Some of
you are streaming from France. So whoever streaming for France,
I appreciate you. Yeah it isn't France. But anyway, thank

(01:39):
you for joining me.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah. Man, so I'm excited to be here, Bro, thanks
for having me.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Just nice and easy.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Can't talk a little bit about you music background, Like
how did you get started in music?

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Man?

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Music has been part of my life since I was
a baby. From my earliest ages, Man, I remember just
jamming music.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Bro.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
My grandfather was a big impact in that. I mean
he was a soul guy. So stuff like BB King
and Freddie Fender stuff like that. I remember really early,
just kind of being drawn to it in his big
old Chevy truck. This is what eighties is in the nineties,
so ninety ninety one when this is happening. And music

(02:18):
has always been a big part of me, man. So
my dad's a musician. He's played in bands growing up,
so I was always around it, his practices and stuff
like that, shows gigs, so it's literally been what I've
been around my whole life.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
So to say that I wouldn't be music is.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
Kind of a long shot, you know, And then once
you get older, it's one of those things you realize, Okay,
I'm really not good at anything else but music, so
I'm gonna stick to that, you know. So yeah, I
suck it out, man, And here I am thirty six
years later, still doing the music.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
So it's pretty cool, man, Pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
And I have a question about more music, but we'll
flip into that in a little bit. You're with the band, now,
can you talk us about how a little bit, how
you got started with for Relent or how you found
a reliant et cetera.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
For sure.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
Yeah, So I started Relenting in twenty sixteen, and it
was birthed out of out of just an adoration and
a heart for Jesus man that I had newly had found.
You know, I mentioned I grew up around music. I
didn't grow up in church. I didn't grow up in
an environment that kind of you know, necessit hated any

(03:28):
type of faith, so I knew God existed, just didn't
have any any correlation or relation of how desperate I
was for a savior. Fast forward to twenty thirteen, Jesus
rescues me. I give up everything, you know. At the time,
I was, you know, playing in secular bands and stuff,
and I gave it all up and to follow Jesus.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
And I was just submitted to him, you know, in church,
serving growing in the Lord man.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
And then twenty sixteen I felt him kind of nudge
me back into writing music again. And that's how relent
was birth. And here we are, what is it nine
nine years later? Nine years later, man, and it's uh,
it's still alive.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Man.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
So I'm just I'm blessed to be able to do
it man again. It was just a an expression of
of what Jesus had done to me, and the only
way you know how to express it with student music
and so that started relent.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
That's really cool. And I've been following you guys since
the beginning. I have your debut album.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
I tell all the Christian artists I meet with this
and our album for six hundred Christian CDs in my
room and I over at like three hundred mainstream rock
cities in my room.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
So I'm like a big Christian in rock. Like I'm
in the middle of all that.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
And that's so cool.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Album was actually your debut album with you was one
of the first albums actually bought on CD.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Oh wow, dude, that's so cool.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
So it's a little fun back like my Crutches has
just grown increasingly since like twenty sixteen.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
If that shifts anything, dude, that's super cool man. Heck yeah,
do you have Do you have the other ones on
record on CD?

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Not yet?

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Okay, just said after this seme year, just I'll send
them to you.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Well, I have what was the album? Shoot?

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Was? I mean, if you have you have a Heart attacked? Right?

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Well, I mean double check I'm on Spotify right now. Yeah,
that'll be the first people watching this podcast. Sorry, you
know me, I like this podcast being randoms and we're
in a random because yeah, the best way to go
with everything the album I have is actually it's not
your first it was heavy. I assumed I'm heavy. My bad, gotcha.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Okay, I think I have a few copies of heart
Attack here in my house. I'll send you a heart
attack and I'll send you a World War me for sure.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Man, thank you. But I'm just saying, like I just
I knew I was one, and I was. I couldn't
think of the name on the top of my head,
so I apologized. So like I said, it's all good, man,
it's all good. We were talking since we brought this up.
You were playing with secular bands, Nino, I cannot pronounce
the name. I think I've pronounced that right, said a
lot of mainstream rock actually too. Like it's like, if
I could rebrand this, if I had another podcast, would

(05:55):
be all about rock music or movies. So how it
was working with like a secular rock band, but now
you're in like a Christian rock band, is it?

Speaker 2 (06:04):
I know, I heard from a lot of people in
the industry.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
I guess per se that the rock industry is a
really cool industry because everyone's supporting and I see a
lot more now these secular rock bands joining these Christian
rock bands and clotting forces. Is there what do you
say that there's any similarities or any differences? And obviously
there's a big difference, I guess Christian music and not
like crazy like sometimes or like there's a lot of

(06:29):
behind the scenes that some artists like dude drinking and everything.
But like, what's the difference of being in like a
secular rock band with the Christian rock band.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
There's not a lot of differences, if I'm being honest.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
I think Elmina came to me after, you know, and
I'm still currently in the Amino. They came to me
after the Relenting already had kind of given birth.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
You know. So it was the thing that I was
already kind of like.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
Cemented into or just really getting my feet wet with
the Christian industry being in the secular industry before I
knew what to expect and what it looked like.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
But when it came to.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Starting Relent, I will still get in my feet with
and understanding how that side of the industry worked, expecting
that there was going to be a difference, and really
finding out there's not too much difference.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Businesses ran the same way. I met.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
I mean, there's still there's amazing people in the Christian
industry that I still I'm still connected with that are
like phenomenal. But there's amazing people that I met in
the second industry that are really close to my heart
and dear friends of mine as well. So to say
that they're different and it's not not really so much
so much so, but my.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Heart go ahead, brother.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
I was just curious because a lot like I hear
from people, like some people say some industries are completely different,
like when I met with Like I've heard from country
people like I haven't had them on the podcast, but
like their country music aspect, like they're strictly different, like
Christian music and country, but those are blending together now
and everything's just every genre they blending out. But there's
a lot of difference from a lot of people, like differential,

(08:03):
Like I'm trying to think.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Of the word for it.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
I'm sorry, you're gonna get a word of it right now,
But like the blood is different, I guess.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
I guess, so I guess for some people, it's gonna
be different. For me.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
The industry is ministry for me, man, And that's really
the only reason I'm back in the industry is is ministry,
and that's my heart and that's kind of like it's
all I think about. And I'm like, I'm I don't know, man,
it's it's it's that's the lens I see through, you know.
So for me, it's gonna be a different experience because

(08:36):
I see it through that lens.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
You know.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
I really believe my call is to be a light
in a dark place, and I've I've known that since
I started relent, that that's what the Lord was gonna do.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
You know, he reveals to me a little by little as.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
And even today he's still revealing and doing crazy things, man,
and it's it's, uh, it's crazy how it happens. But again,
I guess for me, it's gonna be a little different.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
You know.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
I've always seen it as it's not just the job,
you know, it's a I've been strategically placed here to
make an impact for for Jesus, and so you know,
my perspective will be a lot different probably from other people.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah, I was scarious that I like to pick the rights.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Not every day you see something I was into, like
a secular band going into Christian music. Usually unfortunately it's
the opposite. You see a lot of people going from
Christian music the secular music.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
For sure, and a lot of times, I mean everyone again,
everyone's always different, but I think a lot of times,
uh you know, at the end of the day, we're
musicians and we need we need work, you know, just
as the roofer needs a job, you know.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
So sometimes doors open up for work like that.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
And I've been blessed to have both work and ministry
kind of correlates. As weird as it sounds, I know
it's hard for people to kind of understand, but you know,
Bible's very clear on do everything as you're doing into
the Lord, and that's just how.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
I treat it.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
And I treat it as if you know, I'm playing
for the Lord, you know, and so uh yeah, it's cool, man.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yeah, I was scared if the about it, just because,
like I said, it's just I like to hear different
point of views from everyone's like her and like for
sure vision.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
That topic, I guess absolutely.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Question, that's a good question.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Looking forward to you guys. Just releted a new epvack
here in twenty twenty three. Do you have any new
music coming out or plan you're planning to do in
twenty twenty five. If you can't say anything, I completely understand,
But no, for sure, anyone like plans for twenty twenty five,
like tours or anything.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Absolutely, I'm a fine touring gos. I'm not too sure.
It's kind of on the hinge right now.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Uh, just like this last year, even since where were
we released, these last couple of years have been just
economically not feasible for bands, you know, especially bands like
we're lant. We don't have you know, the support, uh
you know that that a big band would have pretty
much independent in what we do. So when it comes
to touring, man, most of it is out of pocket.

(10:57):
And so if you just again the fee, the feasibility
of it is kind of like impossible at this point.
But as far as twenty twenty five goes, you know,
obviously we're looking for a different stand economically and maybe
that open up some doors. We do have shows, books
throughout the year, festivals and and stuff like that that

(11:18):
will be attending and playing. But as far as tours, know,
as far as new music goes, it's already written. There's
already excuse me, miserready stuff being written. There's already stuff recorded,
and it's just a matter of strategy at this point and.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
Figuring out I guess, uh, what I want to do
with Relent again.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
I've been so busy with with Anino that it's like
I've almost had to put it on the back burner,
you know, not that I wanted to, uh, but I
just tour so much with Elnino right now it's like, uh,
you know, I I want to give it my full attention.
I don't want I don't want Relent just to be
a you know, uh used to or had two idea.
It's just it's something I'm very passionate about and I

(11:57):
love it. But definitely there's new music coming out very
it's ready to go again. It's just it's just planning
strategy at this point.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
That's really cool and photos who uh there is a
show or festival or even if it's just like an
acoustic set, of realizing it ever happens.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
We did want one acoustics set a couple of years back.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
That was cool, but.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
You're a complete opposite of acoustic. Meggie and his band
no matter what they do, even if it's just Maggie,
I would recommend checking out his music and everything. We
just have a few extra time minute not time, a
few actually minutes with you today. We like to I
like to get the floard to the artists to speak
about anything on your heart or anything they want to
share that I might have missed or anything so that
the floor is yours.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Oh, man, Man, I'm just I'm just excited to be
where I'm at and do what I do. I'm very
passionate about Jesus, and for me, that's that's at the
forefront of everything I do.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Am I a perfect individual?

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Heck no, you know, but I'm doing my hardest to
to to represent and walk out the call that I
have and and in being a light in a dark
place and being a musician.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
In the music industry, you know.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
And so for me, it's like, man, I just I'm
grateful for the support that's come over the years, the fans.
I've had some tremendous people that are still in contact
with me that, man, I love to death, and uh,
they just they get it, they get the vision, they
get the call, and they support it. So, dude, I'm
just excited to be where I'm at. I love music

(13:33):
and it's I'm so passionate about it. But ultimately, I
just want people to know that anything you hear from
me in either band, I'm I'm doing everything I can
to represent Jesus well.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
And that's really my heart.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Man.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Awesome, and everyone I recommend with another Maggie said, I
recommend just replaying that hearing those words from Meggie and Maggie,
I appreciate your time joining me today on the podcast.
I like some of it with little random that's what
we get with this podcast.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
That's the randoms the way to go.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Man.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
I feel like when they're like overstructured, it's kind of
like predictable, you know.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
What I mean.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Overstructured is overrated.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Overstructured is overrated. That's that's a lyric right there.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
But everyone who's watching this take in protruding in the
Christian Music Worst Podcast for Brendon. And I'll see you
guys next time, and just be safe out there and
I'll see you guys too.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
