Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello, everyone, Welcome to the greatest podcast on the planet Earth.
No it's not the Joe Rogan podcast, or it's the
Movie Talks podcast, or it is the Office Ladies podcast.
I wish I was on the podcast at Office Ladies.
Even though off is a little bit overrated, it's still
a good show. But this is the christ Music Gross podcast,
and I'm your host, Brendan. It's nice to see you
guys back. This is now episode maybe one hundred and

(00:24):
twenty something. He lost track. If I keep talking all
the episodes on my finger, I don't think I can count. Hi.
So if you are actually a DieHarder this podcast and
you actually know exactly what the miriam, please let me know.
I knew we were at like one hundred and six,
but then I recorded like twelve episodes and I'm behind
I'm posting. But yeah, but anyway, today I'm me here
with Brandon Monson. I'm going to Brandon introduce himself.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yeah. I thought this was the Hot Ones Hot Wings podcast,
but I'm so excited to be here anyway, even though
I don't get any wings, but I am the co
owner and co lead vocalist and anointed as the team
mom of President's Music band. Excited to be here at
this one.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
I wish I had hoteings and then we could get
Paul rudded and just do like the whole segment of
Paul rud.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Again, how does he not age anyway? That's for a different,
that's for a different.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
We're just gonna call you Paul Rutford. I said this
interview nowidd, I'm totally here for it anyway. Brandon, you
said you were with President's Music, But can you just
tell us a little bit about your music background? How
you got started in music and everything?

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Of course, Yeah, well I started singing pretty much out
of the womb. My mom used to be a special
music singer, so she would go to churches and hand
them the cassette tape. And I think my music career
got started. I knew that I would be a diva
musician when I was two years old and was singing
a solo with a girl in church and we were
sharing the mic, and I do not remember the story

(01:43):
because I was too but my parents told me that
she was off key and not doing a great job.
We were each holding the mic in one hand and
I ripped it from her and either pushed her down
or just she fell down because I grabbed it, and
that started my music career. I got a good butt
whooping out of the deal with That is how that started.
But more relevant recent information is my wife and I

(02:06):
got married. You know, she's very musically talented. I just
kind of support her and started leading worship for camps
and kind of putting a group together, and that turned
into something semi real and semi professional, and now I
think we're up to mostly real and multi professional, but
really just trying hard to make it hard to miss
out on Jesus. That's our our band's tagline. So kind

(02:27):
of brings us to today.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
And it's really cool. You have a distribution. Yeah, I
camerassed up. I'm sorry, I got cameras passed out. Anyway,
you have a distribution. I cannot pronounce that. We'd the
same my life. Guys, so please don't correct mean, don't
be a grammar police, but or podcast please maybe if
you're a podcast, please.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Write in the comments, please be a grammar police to Brendan,
Actually that would really blest me and increase engagement.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
And you have a distribution deal with a on Nearly
Today Music. How has has it been with Unarta Music
so far, mmhm.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
It's been. It's been great. It'd be more fun if
they're like, man that they're really really terrible, but no,
they're they're wonderful. Working with Kevin and the team there,
it has been, it has been awesome. We we talked
to a few different opportunities. It's not like every label
was calling, but we were previously with a kind of
a DIY distribution and did meet with one other kind
of major distributor and just were really bought in with

(03:22):
what they can do and what Syntax can do and
really wanting to you know, take artists and hone artists
and and help you know, kind of do a lot
to help us grow, help us refine our our ministry
and our craft and our social medias and all that stuff.
And Kevin and the team there has just been really
helpful and helping us grow just in the first few
months here. And yeah, just excited for the future working

(03:44):
with them to get our music out to peep and.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
That's really cool. If you haven't within the present music,
I recommend checking them out. I've had a couple other
in our team music people on this podcast with Howard Group,
Jay David some of these episodes haven't been posted, so
if I post this episode before surprise, they're coming. But
that like this is spoiler alert. And you also just
signed with a line Talent agency effective Monday when we're
talking or yesterday. Today's the twenty nine, so I don't

(04:10):
know what day. And if you're watching this, this is
probably happened like a month ago because this is being
pre recorded. But can you talk us a little bit
how that was?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, if it's if it's a month in the future,
we might be playing Red Rocks. Now. I'm not one
hundred percent sure, but that's probably highly unlikely unless I
sneak on the grounds. But yes, so we are with
a line Talent agency for exclusive booking now and and
uh ye, I don't know the whole history, so I
guess they can correct me in the comments. But I

(04:39):
believe Tim the president there was with GA and they
kind of decided to focus just on speakers, and now they're,
uh you know, Tim spun off and started a Line
Talent with a with a some board and some wise
console behind him, and now they have like, right, I
think we might be artists number twenty all, you know,
National artists whatever it is that that means, but headlined
by folks like Seventh Time Down and Love in the Outcome,

(05:03):
Dan Bremnis Jovon and Mandon Nolan and many many other
talented folks. Really that just grew out of us loving
the music of some of those artists. And we've opened
for Seventh Time Down a few times and played a
showcase down in Nashville a few months ago with pretty
much all of those names that I mentioned, or a
few of them, and just felt like that was a

(05:23):
great opportunity to continue to get the word out about
our band. And we're kind of unique in that. And
I'm representing with our own swag today with the Presence
Music Band sweatshirt. So just in case I forget, we
got the lower Me Down sweatshirt with Cliff Williams featured
on the song of Seventh Time Down. But you know,
we're really trying to love our area well in Minnesota, Wisconsin.

(05:46):
So we're playing sixty eighty shows a year, but pretty
much just in that like three state area, and we're
really wanting to expand, not that we need to do
two hundred shows or be nationwide or worldwide, but we
want to expand even just a little bit further in
the Midwest and develop new relationships and reach more people
for Jesus out in Iowa and the Dakotas in Michigan.

(06:07):
So they're helping us expand our reach. And yeah, like
I said, that's relationship as fresh as a daisy. But
I am stoked to work with uh Tim and the
team there.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
That's really cool. And yeah, you guys, like especially you're saying,
I think, do you have this sweas for sales? So
if someone sees this podcast, that's a cool question. I
want to order one.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yes we do. We don't have the Shopify store set up,
but yeah, so it's the steeple lower Me Down that
is usually our most popular song on the set list.
I make a terrible uh terrible model, but yeah I do.
You can uh Instagram or Facebook or whatever, and I
will personally go to the ups store and know one
to you if you want to mendo me. But yeah,

(06:45):
we these have been pretty popular. We have some pretty
cool merch I don't know, I like to think so.
But we're such a live show oriented group for better
or worse, you know, it's like we're for most of it.
You got to come to the live show like we
we were a band and gigging heavily for two years
with one song out and just playing a bunch of
worship covers, and now we got I don't know, six

(07:07):
or eight songs out. We got a few more coming out,
including next Friday. You heard it here first, except when
you post this, it'll be last month. Sound of your
Name with Stephen Christian from Anne Berlin comes out of
February seven. So excited for you to hear that one
in the future, in the past or the day of
I don't know, back to the future.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yes, that's really cool with all these collaborations you're doing,
like with Cliff and then like Steven, do you have
a if you could? This is just a fun question.
Could I just like that?

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Don't do it? Don't do it, Brandon, what's my question?
You're just saying a favorite feature, no dream collab?

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Yes, that was going to be my question. What's your
dream clab?

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Oh man, I'm too sarcastic. I had an idea in
the chop of my head someone that's been in the
news recently, but I'm not going to say it because
it's it's not kind, Okay, But Michael Tait is my
dream clob but anyway, okay, so I would say, man,
we really would people say what our our music is? Like,
I don't know. This might sound silly, do so please

(08:06):
don't laugh, but definitely going for poppy, very Jesus oriented,
you know, very happy, a little bit country. I tell people, well,
kind of a mix of Hillsong, Young and Free and
Kane is like what our music is. We're kind of
what we're shooting for. If if Caine and Hillsong, Young
and Free had a baby, I guess with Elevation Rhythm,
maybe a little Forrest Frank, that is what we're shooting for.
So yeah, Kane would be great. We may record a

(08:30):
song that they have available on the market that they
never recorded, so that's that's under wraps. But either them
or like Elevation Rhythm, Hillsong Young and Free, even River
Valley ages locally from us, but they're they're pretty big insigned.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
That's a deep cut for most of this is making
me just think of a good tour, right. I imagine
he'll song Younger Free as like Big Act or Don
Kane or actually should be Kane then Hillsong Young and
Free because Ganes I think more Relevan.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Now, yeah, I don't know. I guess they're Yeah, I
think they're still cooking, but that's probably true.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
But then Half River Valley stages at third act and
you guys has the opening yet there you go.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Well, if you give us a couple of months, maybe
the lead frog. I don't know, I know we're.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
But yeah, I'm just thinking about that. My goal is
to be like a tour manager one day. And that's
when it just make you think of the head.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
What about elevation rhythm? Where would they sit in the
in the pecking order?

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Third?

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Okay, so we're down to fifth, that's fine. Is there
anyone below us? No, there's not. Okay, We're We're excited
to be at the very lowest tier of what is
a national artist, which just means we're trying to remain
our unofficial. Our official motto is we want to make
it hard to miss out on Jesus in any event
we lead. We'd love to talk more about that. Our

(09:43):
unofficial motto, especially like to venues or people booking us,
is lead with heart, don't be a jerk. So if
you book us, that's what you're gonna get.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
And I've never listened to elevation Rhythm.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Really yeah, they've got some bops that the Goodbye Yesterday
has them. I think that's them and somebody else.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Honestly, I hot the experiment. Now. I've been doing a
new thing because it's the new year. I can actually
say this because it's actually in the new year. This year,
I've been choosing like a random album and I'm playing
the album straight through.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Oh, just don't play it backwards. Bad things can happen.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
But I just listened to Unspoken's Reason album was the
last album. I just did a full deep dive in.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Ooh, Okay, is it is it good? Was it worth?

Speaker 1 (10:27):
It was?

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Here? First?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
It was really good. I could go on and on,
but we're not. We're talking about under bands. We're here
to talk about your music. But it was pretty good.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Okay, that's good. You should so does that mean you
heard it here? First, I'm gonna put you on the spot.
You will listen to our seven songs that we have
out in a row and then tell people how good
it was on a scale of meths A bad.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
I don't know, more like on the mess side. But yeah,
it's probably fair. But I'll definitely listen to the seven
songs I've been working. It's weird. I've over. You can't
see my wall. We were tell my poster.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Wall at all, my undergrad show them, show them Brandan.
I'm gonna have to.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Turn my camera right, I'm gonna turn my cameround right.
I'm too lazy to But I have a my shelf
next to me which has over six hundred Christian cities,
enough albums to get me for the year.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
You got pumped those numbers up, bro, those are rookie
numbers in this racket.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Well, I have three hundred non Christian cities like rock
bands because I was in a lot of rock bands
on the side.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Oh love the Game rock band?

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yeah, rock band.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
So two thousand and six, dude, it's still still different, man.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
But anyway, sorry, guys, that was a little bit of
our tadget I get told you. This is why I
don't like haven't guidelines for a podcast. We just go
out rid topics.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I'm really sarcastic too, so I hope that's okay. You
didn't really ask ahead of time. I'm I'm yeah, I'm
very sarcastic. So you're welcome.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
And I'm Brendan and this is Brandon. Our names are
two some more. Sometimes they lose track where we're talking about.
But it's okay.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
I'm already confused. Did we start yet? Do we click
record yet?

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Maybe? Audience? Can you let me know for recording? Oh wait,
we're live streaming right now on Facebook.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Oh boy? Oh man, I'm TikTok. Just kidding, TikTok's dead
when you watch when you're watching this, TikTok might be
dead again? Or is that too soon?

Speaker 1 (12:11):
I don't know. That's a big Horambi jokes.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Oh no, good stuff. Okay, Well, what else? What do
you got for me? Brandan? What can I answer? You
said deep dark secrets all all the Hot Ones podcast?
What do you what do you got for me?

Speaker 1 (12:26):
This is not actually a dark secret? But do you
have any events playing for the rest of the year.
I know you just did a show with Nashville early
this year and the last year with like Cliff Williams,
Jovon and all that.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
We're actually going on hiatus, no events the rest of
the year. We're taking a sabbatical. I'm just kidding. Yeah, man,
we got some exciting uh fast, We're doing a tour
with Mini Tour. I don't know, what do you call
five dates? Is that a tour?

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Brendan, I say it's a weekend.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
The weekend, Yeah, the weekend won't be joining us, but
we're doing five dates with Jove on in March or
when you're watching this this month or you missed them,
depending on what you post it early March up in
our neck of the woods here and then planning on
going to Nashville and April and doing some more showcases.
And we're doing a decent amount of summer festivals. I
mean really really where we say our bread and butter

(13:13):
is world churches, and we love opening for people. We
love festivals, but kind of where we found our niche
is helping put on an outreach event, whether it's youth
or in general at these kind of smaller churches that
maybe they can't get someone that's ten grand, but they
can get us for you know, a lot less than
that and maybe get a similar quality experience and and

(13:34):
bring people into their church it might not normally come.
I mean, we work with comedians, we work with trying
to find a Christian magician. I can't find one, but
you know, if you'll have one, let me know in
the comments or ventriloquist, but you know, we we're okay,
oh season magician. I love that, or just go behind
the you know, the virtual screen and then you would disappear.
But you know we're One of our other things we

(13:56):
say is we want to do anything shortest in and
we reach someone for Jesus. So it's not necessarily super
exciting on the bands in town, but it's exciting for us.
We're going into a lot of rural communities in Minnesota
and Wisconsin and hopefully with a Lion farther than that
and getting the word out about Jesus. But we do
have some pretty sweet summer festivals. Were doing City on
the Hill again. We're doing thrive Fest out of Fargo.

(14:18):
That's a pretty huge one and I don't know if
that's announced yet. There's one in Iowa where we'll be
opening for Leanna Crawford and switch Foot, so that'll be
pretty fun. I've always felt I was meant to live
for so much more, So hopefully more festivals come in,
especially with the Lion under the the under our or whatever.

(14:39):
We're under their umbrella. That's the word I was like,
not under the gun, not under their protection. That sounds weird.
But yes, we have a lot of events coming up
and I almost all the band has a nine to
five and we're playing approximately a full time load of
gigs on top of that. But we're doing it because
we love it. I'm doing it because we want to
reach people for Jesus.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
And you heard it here. First of all, I announced
it on my social media pay I'm meeting with Joe
Vaughn here. Jovann will be joining in the podcast soon,
so you'll do'll follow my page and you watch the
podcast like on YouTube or Spotify because you don't have
Instagram for your name, just kidding her that name. Love
you guys, But I know Joe allD Movies joining the
podcast here in a few week actually next tuesdays when
I'm meeting with jovon ND.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
You should it would bless me if you a like, uh,
we're definitely opening for him. He has like ten times
the reach that that we do. But you should really
talk about it, like he's opening for us, and like
you know, it's like we're like Toby Mack that he's
working with. Like what's it like getting work with Presence
Music band? Are you excited? Like you're gonna learn from them?
Kind of apprentice under them, like the Disciples under Jesus,

(15:40):
and just see what he says, can you can you
do that for me?

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (15:45):
And he'll be like, what kind of question is this?
I was like, that was Brandon's question.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Also, he has a lot of good songs, like his
new one need to Know, but his uh already one
is that? Want to say? Yeah one is awesome and
it came out four years ago, and up until I
started getting to know him more, that's the only one
I knew. So if you would just only ask about
that song, that would also really bless me.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
We'll just ask him about his It's going to be
may song.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Ooh, I love it?

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Cut cut or deep cut anyway. We just have a
few extra minutes with you here tonight, today, tomorrow, in
the future, whatever you want to call it.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
When you're watching this. Mid twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Yeah, it could be twenty twenty nine. Who knows, the world.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Will be done for sure, we'll be in glory.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
But do you have anything you want to talk about
that we didn't bring about on the podcast it's on
your heart or anything you want to share.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Well, I have a few few stories that I really
like to tell you know. We One of the other
things we say, like I said, is we want to
do anything short of sand to reach someone for Jesus.
So we haven't played Red Rocks yet, but we we
played a casino once as a Christian band and played
Christian music up in northern Minnesota. Pretty big casino, but
they had a the whatever I think it was like

(16:53):
an Alison Change cover band cancel with ten days notice,
and they needed to find a band that had a
sound system. So we played worship covers and some originals.
We did play a couple of positive country songs, but
it was mostly worship music in a casino at two
hundred and fifty people on New Year's Eve of preaching
the gospel, and believe it or not, got some flak

(17:15):
from it from the church community, but people were impacted.
I believe people came to know Jesus. There was even
a shaman there in attendance that started down the path
to know Jesus. So we don't try to ruffle feathers,
but we're not afraid to ruffle feathers. We brought in
Seventh Seventh Day Slumber for an event and the church
a board member decided they didn't like how they looked

(17:38):
last minute, so they canceled the venue on us. We
asked called up a bar and asked them to host it.
So we hosted it outside in their festival grounds now
and then we brought them back the next year. But
what probably my favorite moment of the band so far
is doing that casino and watching these three college age
kids literally stumble in off the street towards the beginning
of the Seventh Day Slumber Show and we opened for them.

(18:01):
Cut to an hour later their front row weeping before
the Lord, and it just absolutely wrecked me. Dude, Like
they stayed an hour after they're praying with with Joe
the lead singer and his wife. I think, and like
people coming and know Jesus hearing the Christian rock music
from across the street. Uh and and you know, God

(18:21):
meeting them right where they're at. So you know, we
have poppy Jesus tunes, then we play some worship covers.
That's kind of the tools we have in our tool belt.
But make no mistake about it, we are here to
tell people about Jesus or reach people for Jesus. So
you know, would love if you could support our ministries
that's what it is. It's it's ministry two of us
or licensed pastors. And you know if you if you

(18:42):
buy a shirt, or bring us in to your church,
or have us open for your festival, or you know,
bring us on tour. You know, that's the reason we
have full time jobs is we can sow this this
money just back into our ministry to get in front
of our churches that maybe can't afford it. So that's uh,
that's the heart behind Presidence Music Band for for whatever
that that's worth.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
And there's those are watching streaming, send to me while
you're at the gym, or just putting me to talk
yourself to sweep like Joe Para. I'm not Joe Parah,
but no Joe Parah. He has a thing. It sounds
like Max I was gonna says. It's called Joe Parrah
talks to you. And it's like mister more a dog gear,

(19:22):
mister Rogers neighborhood. It doesn't really swear or it's more,
but it's more like adult themes, like he's like he
talks about rocks or like stuff. It's kind of like
Bob Ross and mister Rogers for like a modern day
audience oh.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
I will definitely avoid that one. Very cool.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Okay, It's really interesting though, just because he's just like
there right, it's like, this is my dog. My dog
likes to play.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Maybe you should tivot the podcast to just do more
like that.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
And it's funny fun because he actually recorded his show
in Michigan.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Oh see, you could do a collab episode.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
I wish I got to.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Yes, I guess that's what I get if I preached
at you for a few minutes. So sorry about that.
I didn't get any guidelines for this.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Make sure to fall Present Music. Make sure to check
out a show very interested. Send Brandon a message on
Present Music page to see if you can get them
at your church and everything.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
And follow back everyone everyone. If you're not a bot,
we will follow you. I'll follow you back twice if
it'll let me.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
My account is secretly about.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
You're actually AI. That's that makes sense. That that's why
when the Instagram DM me, he opened it with I
hope this DM finds you well, and I was like,
that's very strange, AI humor.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
I wrote, they default template and put it in AI,
and that's what it came out with.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Oh good, here we are. We're all in the simulation
were getting into conspiracy theories, but you did.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Mention, Brandon, thank you for joining me today. I appreciate
your time.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Oh it's so fun. Hope to be on again. Man.
I'm excited to check out some of your episodes and
excited to stay in touch.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
And everyone who's watching. I hope you have a great week, month,
year grade twenty twenty eight if you're still listening. But
we'll see nice the next Ti. Men, the Christian needs
their worst Packett take care of everyone.

I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
