Greater Guild Announcer (00:05):
Welcome
to Church Nerds United, the
podcast where geek culture meetsspiritual truth. Brought to you
by the Greater Guild Church,we're here to explore the
questions that challenge ourhearts and inspire our fandoms.
Today's message dives into atopic we all wrestle with.
Should the fandom forgive?Whether you're a dungeon master,
an otaku, or just here for thelore, grab your healing potion,
(00:29):
and let's embark on this journeytogether.
Now let's jump into the message.
Pastor Brandon Holm (00:37):
Lady
Gravenaster, this last week,
asked a very important question. And, really, it's it's kinda for
us as Christians, it's reallysomething that we need to talk
about. And as as geeks that weare, as the nerds that we are,
you know, our fandoms have beenreally destroyed pretty much,
and everything we loved andlike. I mean look at Dragon Age.
(00:59):
Look at what Dustborn was.
I mean considering that it'smore activism now, and all of
the things that we like, all ofour escapisms. It's hard to ask
the question, because it's avery difficult question to
answer, but as Christians we cananswer that in in our faith. And
what I mean is, will fandomforgive is the question that
(01:20):
Lady Gravemaster did on a livestream earlier this week, and
that's really a great question. Will the fandom forgive? I mean,
will we as as the fans of, youknow, all our favorite sci fi,
fantasy, you know, games, movies, TV shows, will we
forgive?
That's a very great question. Sohow do we do this? Well, let's
(01:43):
start at the beginning. Youknow, Disney and all of its
failures happened right afterthe Lucasfilm acquisition. They
already had Marvel, and theywere doing a really great job
when the acquisitions happened.
So what really happened wasDisney, and and I'm not just
saying this for Disney, butwe're focused on Disney because
Star Wars very big for us as asas geeks. I mean, we quote it
(02:08):
constantly, may the force bewith you, is a very common, you
know, geeky thing to talk about, especially when you go to Comic
Con. But when you look at it,she really does put into the
context of the situation thatwith what happened with
Lucasfilm is, and all theschlock that came out of it.
(02:30):
It's really turning to the indieproducers. The indie productions
that are getting a lot offavorable reviews, and a lot
more, fans.
It used to not be like that. You'd look at the indies
through, you know, even gamingin stream, and you're like, you
know. You had to have and youreally had to really like indie
type films, or, you know, indietype games to really be a fan of
(02:51):
this. Well that's, you know, what's happening now is the fans
of all our stock, fandoms, ourfantasy is just gone, and we're
going to these indie production, these indie developers. Why?
Just because of what hashappened to our beloved
franchises, and she puts it verysuccinctly. You have to do, you
(03:13):
know, separate the brand fromthe IP. So Lucasfilm is the IP.
Disney's the brand. So will webe able to do that?
That's kinda hard to do. IfDisney continues to doing what
it's doing, and continuing toput Activision over, you know,
(03:34):
our our our our stories, the ourbeloved stories, especially our
beloved lore, what's the pointof forgiving? And as I like to
say with, overlord, VictorVanDuke, he basically sums it up
of how we as fans really feel, and it's without respect we
reject, and, yeah, the fans havenot been respected. Look at
(03:57):
what's happening. The whole wokeideology is more of put the
activism and active activism inthe movies, put our message over
the storytelling.
I mean, if you've noticed, youknow, with the games that we've
been playing, not just here atthe guild, but everywhere that
has been coming very popular, the act you know, the activist
(04:17):
is losing, and we're as fanswinning this war on ideology,
because we want thestorytelling. We want to escape
the real world, and that's fine. That's great, but as many people
have has speculated, you know, the damage is done. So where do
we go from here? And that'squite simple.
(04:39):
Really to state is, let'srephrase the question. It's not,
will the fan fandom forgive? Thereal question here even as
Christian geeks is, should thefandom forgive? It's a very very
quick, Christian question, andwe have a very Christian take on
it. So how do we look at it?
I mean, we're told constantly, you know, in church, and from
(05:03):
other Christians, you know, forgiveness is correct, but it's
not the same when we, you know,in the way we believe, you know.
Forgiveness is definitely acorrect I'd idea to have,
especially when it comes tothings that that have happened
in recent months years, but it'snot in the same way as we
believe, and and it's littleit's it's not complicated, but
(05:27):
it's, kind of, hard to wrap itall up in basically a short
message, but to sum it up.Forgiveness is really part and
parcel of the healing process. It's basically, like, when you
have a bad relationship, and youjust, you know, cut off that
relationship. Whether it be withyour significant other, or
(05:48):
you're dating somebody,whatever, or it's with your
favorite fandom, or it's with, you know, a game series that you
really like.
It's it's that process that wehave to go through. We're gonna
be angry, but in the end we haveto forgive. And the reason that
part of that, it's not just ahealing process as in general
for our psyche, but it is thehealing process for our soul as
(06:10):
well. Our spirit really needsthe forgiveness, and it's not
just they have to forgive us. Wehave to we have to forgive their
transgressions as the sayinggoes.
So to do that, we have toforgive as God forgives us. So
the question I'm gonna ask youis how as Christian fans do we
(06:30):
forgive the destruction of ofStar Wars, Star Trek, Doctor
Who, and definitely Doctor Who,and basically all our games,
within the last 5 years? Well, think of it this way. It comes
in 4 parts, and the first partis forgiveness is commanded by
God. God demands that weforgive, and in Romans chapter
(06:51):
12 verse 19, he it says, neveravenge yourselves, but leave it
to the wrath of God.
For it is written vengeance ismine. I will repay, says the
Lord. You're not to go outthere, and just go banging on
the felt on the shelves justbecause you forgive. It's very
peaceful. I mean, it's kind ofcontrary to what we had in the
(07:12):
Summer of Love, and if youremember that you'll understand
that.
We don't are not gonna beviolent towards people. That's
not how we're supposed to. Wecan forgive, and if we forgive
that's great, but God alsoforgave us for our
transgressions when Jesus diedon the cross. The other thing is
(07:33):
is that number 2. Jesus did so.
He led he led by examplebasically on the day he died.
His last few words and it weit's it's great because we have
it documented in Luke 2334, andJesus said, forgot father
forgive them or they know notwhat they do. That's very
(07:56):
powerful, and the problem iswith that one and I'm gonna hear
it a lot from other Christianslike, well they knew what they
were doing. Yes. They did, butwe're asking God to forgive them
just as we should forgive them.
Do they know what they're doing?Well, yes and no. They brought
in the activist, they saw andthey green lit it, but did they
(08:17):
know what the repercussions weregonna be? Probably not. So it's
like, you know, we gotta forgivethem because the repercussions
have been hard on them, andthat's fine.
The third aspect is, you know,it's to be a testimony for
others to understand why weforgive. In Colossians 312, Paul
basically writes, if one has acomplaint against another,
(08:40):
forgiving each other. As theLord has has forgiven you, so
you also must forgive. Now thisis why The Phantom Menace really
exists after the 1st star DisneyStar Wars movie released. Now,
we're telling them, you know, these are the wrong things that
are wrong, you know, as ThePhantom Menace did.
Look at NerdRoddic, OverlordDVD, Lady Graemeister who gave
(09:02):
us our question, RK Outpost,Geeks and Gamers. Yes, Jeremy,
we're talking to you too. Iwanted to mention that this is
not about ding dropping forcloud. You know, look at their
videos. Every one of theirvideos gives testimony to assure
fans that the fans voice isheard.
And in that we'd look and wetalk we we rewatch their videos,
and we ask ourselves, should weforgive? And the answer is
(09:24):
definitely, yes. Not justbecause, but if you also look at
channels like, Midnight Says, orthe world class b s, You know,
they bring people in from theindustry to testify about the
woke mentality activism going onin it in entertainment. So we
know what's going on inside aswell. And we need to forgive
those people on the inside aswell, because they went in I'm
(09:47):
sorry to say it.
They went in with greatintentions, but their execution
sucked. And not only that, whatthey were doing destroyed almost
a lifetime of George Lucas'slegacy. You have Gene
Roddenberry's legacy being, youknow, sacrificed on the altar of
her wokeism, and we do need toforgive them for that, and it's
(10:09):
just not because we have to. Weneed to. Because all that anger
is just gonna boil up and andand hurt us.
So if we forgive, we're gonnamake sure that we can go out
there and say, you know what? Isit worth getting out the
pitchforks and and and and, youknow, torching things? No. But
is it worth mentioning that, yeah, you guys really screwed up
(10:32):
on this. And finally, asChristian fans, for us to be
forgiven for our sins we mustforgive others.
You know, God's not one way. He's on this on two sides, and
we see this in Matthew chapter 614 and 15. For if you forgive
others their trespasses, yourheavenly father will also
(10:52):
forgive you. But if you do notforgive others their trespasses,
neither will your father forgiveyour trespasses. See, it's a two
way street.
We have to forgive in order toreceive forgiveness. I know it
sounds weird but this is God'srules, you know? But in all of
this have you ever heard me say, forget? Well, no. Notice in
(11:16):
every one of these passages andhow I've been speaking it's
always, forgive, forgive,forgive.
You know, forgive is in thesequotes, but I've never say said
that you had to forget thetransgression. That's where
people, kind of, get screwed upbecause a lot of people forget
that forgive and forget is not aChristian value. It's not even
at the Bible. Forgive is aChristian value. Forgetting is
(11:41):
not.
We can remember what they'vedone to us. This is why I
mentioned all these folks whoare part of not just the Phantom
Menace, and Phantom Menace is,you know, not really relevant in
my opinion anymore, but, youknow, RK Outpost, you know,
Overlord DVD, Lady Gravemeister,Nirrock, those guys and gals.
Those are the people that reallyform it all together, because if
(12:05):
you listen to them, they'rereally not saying, let's get
revenge. Let's, you know, let'slet's do harm to them, you know,
because, you know, let's, youknow, let's not ride at the
gates. All they're saying islike, look.
Here's what's going on. We canbe mad. We can do that. Because
for the many of those people whothey are Christian, you know,
(12:25):
they know revenge is not theanswer. You know, that's up to
God.
And like I said, in Romans12/19, he says, vengeance is
mine. But so how do we notforget about these
transgressions? Well the answeris simple. Like in our last
election, we vote with ourwallet and our fandom. If we're
not gonna be treated properly,so we don't go watch it.
(12:47):
I mean, it's like what many ofthese creators said, these woke
creators said, you know, if youdon't like it, don't buy it.
Fine. We're not gonna do it, andwe've been doing that. That
doesn't mean we don't forgivethem. We do honestly, But it's,
like, well, you know what?
You had a bad game. I'm sorry. You had stuff in there that I
(13:08):
don't like. I'm sorry to hearthat, and I forgive you for
being, you know, that dumbbecause you put in all that
stuff that we don't like. We'vetold you we didn't like.
We have great people who aretelling us that this is not
something we want. So great. We're not gonna buy it. We're
not gonna indulge our time, andwe're not gonna put time into it
(13:30):
for ourselves to just be part ofit. Okay?
So as I said, forgiveness, butdon't forget it. And as I close
this out, I just wanna remindyou that, you know, God demands
that retaliation is for God, notyou. Game developers, movie
studios, and even anime studios, and manga publishers will feel
(13:50):
this pinch when we decide toreject their Activision
activism. Activision. There'sanother one.
But, you know, we reject theactivism that is built into
their psyche, and it is beingforced down our throats, in our
games, in our TV shows, in ourmovies, in our entertainment in
general. And when they say thatwe are basically wanting more
(14:19):
better stories over the wokeideology. That's not revenge or
retaliation. It really is amessage like you read in the
Bible. Now the Bible is our bookon how to do life.
Our choice in what we consume asfans, you know, that's the
message we need to send out towoke companies. We don't need
the messaging. We want story. Wewant something that we love. We
(14:43):
want Star War we want levels ofstory that it comes from Star
Wars 1 through 6.
Indiana Jones, the first threemovies. No. The, you know, time
before the, you know, 12thdoctor. I think 12th doctor was
the female one. But any someonebefore those stories were great.
We want those back. And let meremind you that these companies
(15:06):
are gonna be gaslighting you. It's already done with Jaguar.
So if the companies aregaslighting you, and you
continue to fight for what youbelieve in, along with
forgiveness that they're justbeing stupid at the moment, it
means that you're on the rightside of history as the kids say.
(15:26):
Again, look at Ubisoft, Disney, even full mainstream media.
They've been gaslighting you fora long time, and you've been
fighting. And you're saying andpeople are saying, well, you
you're not supposed to fightabout it. Well, you can fight
for it. But as long as you putforgiveness in your heart and
say, you know, I forgive you forbeing this dumb, and then say,
(15:47):
here's the reasons why, andthat's why you have RK Outpost,
Geeks and Gamers, Overlord DVD.All these groups put putting
that out there and saying, hey, look this is not fun.
This is not great. We don't likethis. Because now we're asking
for as we respect them for, youknow, for forgive in
(16:08):
forgiveness, you know, thatmeans that they should respect
us for what we want. And just areminder, Overlord DVD, you
know, doom cock. I'm gonna sayit again.
Without respect, we will reject,And the company has been feeling
it now. So keep it up. Butremember, during this whole
time, forgive them. You don'thave to forget what they did,
(16:31):
but just forgive them. It'llmake it so much easier to go in
life.
And this message really is foreverybody in life who's had, you
know, family wrong them in thepast. And especially when it
comes to Thanksgiving, I'mhearing a lot of people are just
the families are breaking apartbecause, you know, you voted for
the other person instead of whatI wanted. That's the wrong thing
(16:53):
to do, but I'm hearing from alot of families, and this is
from out here, that those peopleare still forgiving those family
members who don't want any part, because they voted the opposite
direction. That's what we need, and that's how we start the
healing.
