E55 Turning Emotional Pain Into Positive Drive

Hi Friends,

In this episode I talk about:

The power of the pivot. Have you ever made plans to reach your dreams or goals and then a week later or a month later you realize that they aren't sustainable and you end up quitting altogether? If we learn how to pivot, we can forge a new path and keep going.

(00:00):
Hi and welcome to Classic Advice.
My name is Scarlett Classic, your host.
On this podcast I share stories from my life in order to draw
lessons from them to encourage us towards self improvement for
a more fulfilling and happier life.

(00:20):
Have you ever made plans to meetcertain goals and it totally
falls apart on you Today I'd like to talk to you guys about
the power of the pivot. It sounds so epic, the power of
the pivot. It really is.
There's very there's so much if we can just learn to pivot when

(00:47):
when I so I took a sabbatical. If you're new to the show, I did
take a little bit of a break formy show because I was going
through some stuff in my personal life, which if you go
back a few episodes about turning emotional pain into
positive drive, I talk about that in there.
But when I came back to podcasting and back to writing

(01:09):
my book, I told myself that I was never going to miss another
episode. I was going to make it happen.
I was going to make it work and I was going to keep plugging
away at the novel that I'm trying to write.

(01:30):
So in order to do that, I made aplan.
So I said, OK, well, if I want to get this book done, I need I
need to write in it everyday, right?
That's the only way to get a book done is you got to sit down
and type. So I decided that every day I

(01:51):
was going to try to give about 30 minutes a day to working on
my book. And then with my podcast, what I
try to do is I do what's called batch recording.
So I'll normally sit and record 2 Timeless Truths episodes and
two normal, what I call my normal Wednesday episodes.

(02:12):
This show all started with the Wednesday episodes and then I
just keep adding things. So I'll do basically two weeks
work of podcasting in one session, which is what I'm doing
right now on the weekends or on a weekend that I'm off.
Because when I'm on my normal work schedule, I have every

(02:34):
second weekend off. So I figured if I can record a
bunch on the weekends when I'm off, then on my work days, I
don't have to figure out, OK, that quiet time to record and
all that stuff, right? And during the week or when I'm
working that stint, what I was, what I planned on doing was,

(02:58):
well, I'll do my emails, I'll doall the background stuff.
I totally revamped my website. So I did that and all that, that
fun stuff. Sometimes I look for music, but
I won't bore you with that. All the background stuff during
the week and at the time when I made this plan we had we're

(03:22):
winding. So I work a seasonal job and we
were winding down for the season.
And at the time we were only working 10 hour days instead of
12 hour days. So I was getting home a lot
earlier and doing that was super, super easy for me because
I had the time then which we switched locations, which made

(03:43):
my commute longer by about an extra hour's worth of driving
per day. And we went from 10 hour days
back to our normal 12 hour days. And when I would get home, I
just, I realized I was like, I can't, I can't do this.
I could take, you know, a quick 5-10 minutes to check emails or

(04:08):
do that kind of thing, but therewas no time to work on the book.
It just I wasn't humanly possible.
I didn't there's only so many hours in the day and I still
have to prioritize sleep. And even though I really enjoy,
I love podcasting and I love writing in my book, but when
you, you know, sometimes I just mentally, I'm just too tired to

(04:32):
to do that. I just want to sit and relax.
So I was thinking and I was like, I don't what do I do?
Because I made this commitment to myself and I didn't want to
break the promises to myself about spending that time every

(04:54):
day to work on both. You know, 1/2 an hour, 30
minutes isn't that long, but I sometimes was just too too tired
at the end of the day to really give my all and thinking effort
to put into my book. However, I was determined to not

(05:17):
let that change the goal. I was still determined to keep
working on my book and I'm stilldetermined to keep showing up
here and not missing episodes and keep recording.
And that got me thinking. I need a pivot.

(05:37):
I need to change my day-to-day goals.
I need to pivot. I need to change my I guess self
expectations for my day-to-day and rethink things and re.

(05:59):
I'm not really having a hard time finding the word.
I got to change my day-to-day goals.
I got to pivot if if you're not,I know I have some listeners
that are not native to English. So pivoting is when say you're
just you're, you're standing facing South and you just pivot

(06:23):
and now you're facing SE. You're just turning a little
bit. The goal, the end goal is the
same, but you're just turning just slightly.
You're pivoting just slightly sothat you're still getting your
goal, but you're just taking a different route.
You're still getting to your goal, but taking a different

(06:46):
route. Have you guys ever tried
pivoting instead of throwing in the towel and quitting Because I
could, you know, nobody's forcing me to be here.
Nobody's forcing me to write a book.
That's my own goals that I put in that I'm putting on myself,
right? That's just something I want to
do for me instead of quitting. I'm just turning slightly.

(07:12):
And that's the lesson that I want to to share with you guys
is there's so much power in pivoting.
If you want something bad enough, you will find a way to
make it work. Maybe you need to go through

(07:36):
something similar to what I wentthrough to give you that
emotional drive and spirit and afight to never miss an episode
or or not quit because I was, I was very close.

(07:57):
I didn't want to, but I was justso down and I didn't know how to
make it work. Now instead of allowing that to
say, Oh well, I don't have time,I can't do this, I have to quit.
No, I don't have to. We can pivot.
We can just turn slightly and take a different Rd. and it

(08:17):
might be a longer road. And in my case it will be a
longer Rd. Because if I can't dedicate, you
know, 8 hours a day or an hour aday writing my book, obviously
it's going to take me longer to get there, right?
But I'll still get there. It's just going around the

(08:38):
mountain instead of through the mountain.
I'm taking the Scenic Rd. and there's nothing wrong with that.
The other thing is just that fact that I went through what I
went through and now I'm so incredibly determined to not let
outside circumstances dictate whether I pursue my dreams and

(09:03):
goals or not really had a big impact on me.
And it's giving me a lot of fuelin my tank and a lot of a lot of
drive and determination to not let those outside forces dictate
whether I show up here or dictate whether I can write my

(09:25):
book or not. You know that saying if there's
a will, there's a way. I've got a lot of will right now
because of what I went through and missing and, and stopping
writing my book. And then when I got through what
I went through, like I talked about in another episode, is

(09:47):
that that gave me a lot of, I was irritated and down and just
like not down, but just irritated and frustrated that I
missed that I let outside circumstances dictate whether I
show up here or not. So now I'm not going to let that
happen again. And I want to share this with
you guys because if you have a dream or a goal, it's not if

(10:10):
those outside forces are going to affect us or not.
It's when, when is something going to happen to you that
really gets you down? Or you, like me, maybe switch
jobs and only, you know, there'sonly 24 hours in a day.
How can we lean into the power of the pivot and just find a

(10:33):
different road? And maybe we have to take out
our machete and slash down thosejungle trees and shrubs and make
our own path and make our own way, Make our whole new
different Rd. that wasn't even there before in order to get to
where we want to be? The other thing that is also

(10:57):
really helpful is having someoneto keep you accountable.
Are you showing up? I have a wonderful community
that I go to on meet up. It's a bunch of other podcasters
and we get together because you know, unless you have a Co host

(11:17):
to help keep you accountable, it's it's basically yourself
showing up to your computer all the time.
That takes a lot of discipline. Having a community there that's
supporting me and understands what it takes to be a podcaster
really, really helps the do you have someone to keep help keep

(11:38):
you accountable to reach your goals.
I've said this many times, I do have a calendar on my website.
It's called one-on-one Zoom chats.
It might say with Scarlett on there, but it's one-on-one Zoom
chat and it's a virtual meet up.You can go on my calendar.

(11:59):
You can pick a day we can meet up.
We can have coffee over Zoom andyou can share your goals with
me. You can e-mail me and say, hey,
Scarlett, I met my goals this week or Scarlett, I didn't meet
my goals this week. And I'll be there for you to
help keep you accountable so that you can keep striving to

(12:20):
reach your dreams and your goals.
I would love that. And you can be there for me too.
Hey Scarlett, did you write in your book this week?
Hey Scarlett, what's happening in your book?
Hey Scarlett, you missed an episode.
What's up? Community really makes a
difference in your life and theycan help help with a second

(12:43):
machete to clear the that secondpath for you that leads right
into the challenge of this week.Next time life takes over, keep
the pivot in mind and just adjust.
It might be small adjustments, it might be big adjustments, but

(13:06):
at least you're still moving forward and you're still taking
a step. Rome wasn't built in a daze, so
to speak. You know, one step at a time and
each step, no matter how small, counts.

(13:28):
All righty, that is it for this episode.
As my friend JJ always says, please pause.
Think about what you want to achieve.
Think about is it time to pivot?Maybe you've stopped walking
completely. Maybe it's time to get back at

(13:50):
it and love yourself. Love yourself enough to not
quit. Keep going, keep chasing those
dreams, there's a reason you want them.
Love yourself enough to keep going and be aware of your
ripple, because each and every one of us has a ripple in life.

(14:14):
Let's make that a +1. You guys are the absolute best.
I love my listeners. Stay classically you, stay
uniquely you. And as always, like I said
before, I'd love to hear from you.
If you head for over to my website, classicchronicles.ca.

(14:35):
The link is in the show notes. My e-mail is in the show notes.
I'd love to hear from you. Take care guys.
Bye.
