“Music, Musings and Memories" with the Classical Guitar. Your host (Aaron Powell) gives background on the Artists/Composer(s) from his LP collection. Listeners will hear commentary on the performers, and composers before listening to side one. Aaron will share remarks, anecdotes and asides relating to his personal experiences as a musician. Then we flip over to side two and enjoy the rest of the music. Aaron lives in Des Moines with his wife and two daughters, maintains an active performance schedule, has a thriving guitar studio, and does his best to balance musicianship with family life.

Torroba Concierto de Castilla Side 1
Selected Solo Works Side 2
Side 1
Adagio, Allegro Moderato
Lovely opening movement, lots of bravado.
Movement ends like a sportscar zooming into the garage
Andante
Listen for the bells about 2 minutes in.
Has a very “Disney-like” feel for the bulk of the movement
...The Classical Guitar LPs podcast has been quiet for a while. Aaron checks in with the audience and explains. Thanks for listening
The commentary was recorded on location in Portland, OR with my remote equipment. I picked up this record at Bach & Rock in Astoria, OR while my family was out sightseeing.

400 Years of the Classical Guitar, Alrio Diaz Everest 3155 1966 [Reissue of 1959 Original Recording]
Aaron is excited to finally be able to present a recording of the great pedagogue Alrio Diaz. Many, many copies of printed music are in Aaron's personal library and edited by Alrio Diaz, but this is a first to hear of his recorded works, and it is well worth it, to be sure
Aaron gives his impressions and reactions to the 1961 recording Three Centuries of Guitar. This is actually a 1973 repressing, as the original recording was on the Decca label. Wonderful music on this episode, my favorite being the Homage to Boccherini by Mario Castelnuevo-Tedesco, written in 1933.
Aaron analyzes some rarely-heard music from Elizabethan England, on this 1973 MHS recording
Listen to Aaron analyze the 1983 Deutsche Grammophon recording of Goran Sollscher on the 11 string guitar, with first hand insight from the performer.
Aaron analyzes the 1960 LP entitled The Intimate Bach Volume 2 Laurindo Almeida. It is a wonderful recording with the help of a French Horn and a Viola as well!
This is the first episode of season 7
Aaron wraps up the 5th season of the Classical Guitar LPs podcast with this wonderful recording of Julian Bream & John Williams from 1979. Listen to music performed on two guitars that is very unique and moving
