Valerie Ling (00:00):
So we've been
going for about three weeks now
and the podcast is reallygetting out there.
If you're listening to this forthe first time, welcome.
So it started a little bit likethis.
I sat at home and had this kindof idea that went like, hey,
wouldn't it be great to do apodcast based on some research
(00:23):
findings that I had come acrossfrom my own assignment for a
Masters of Leadership degree, and knowing very little, almost
to nothing, about podcastrecording, I just launched into
it, not thinking too much abouthow to do it, what to do about
it and what it was all going tobe about.
(00:44):
And hey presto, we have theclergy well-being down under
podcast and it turns out that wehave been able to record up to
12 episodes.
Now, you know, I really onlyintended to do it for a very
short time.
It was just something thatpopped into my head and I
thought let's just do it.
(01:04):
But the interviews keep coming.
So here's a bit of a heads up.
The podcast will constituteinterviews of all kinds of
different people from all aroundthe world.
Mainly, these are people whoare either researchers in the
well-being for pastors space, they might be practitioners, as
(01:26):
in they have lived experience ofbeing in ministry.
Maybe they've written a bookabout well-being in ministry or
even that topic called burnout, but it also could be from the
wider Christian community whoreally want to see the gospel
going out and for gospel workersto be healthy and thriving.
(01:47):
So you might even hear fromsome people from the missions
scene.
Beyond that, I have no idea whoelse will come on.
Sometimes it'll be good news, asin some positive things about
ministry well-being, andsometimes, probably most of the
time, it will be about thechallenges and difficulties that
(02:07):
we experience.
And that is largely becausethat's what my research is about
and that's what my interest isabout being a clinical
psychologist in the space.
Most of the time I am seeingthat percentage of people in
ministry who are struggling.
But I do hope that it willprovide a taste, a bit of
(02:27):
empathy, for what it is like forsome of us who are in ministry,
where it is a hard slog and itis not always easy, and that it
might provide a degree ofcompassion and empathy and a
voice to say, hey, let'sencourage one another, let's not
assume that we're all havingthe same experiences.
(02:50):
So I'm really excited for youto tune in for the next few
episodes.
They're going to be more livedexperiences.
Stay tuned, catch you later.
