up hits the songs by Sabrina Carpenter, laid Banks, Peep
rexro More. One of my favorite things on the show
is introducing you to new artists. And there's an Australian
artist called Oliver Cronan. He makes these amazing pop songs.
You've probably seen his videos pop up on your TikTok.
He also toured with Nessa Barrett last year and went
on his own tour and he's been doing huge things.
(00:56):
He just got back from a promo tour over in
the US, Asia and in Europe and he just dropped
this Brandy single, Oh We dis House, Burning House. Welcome
to the show. Oliver cronin congratulations on your brand new single.
What was it like working on it?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
It was in La recording a project, and my producer
had played me that beat the first day I got there,
and he played me it every time on the way
to the studio. We never kind of got around to
it until like the last day we were there and
we were just messing around. I was waiting the whole
trip to make this, so it was It was really fun.
And I have a habit of I'm engaged in a
relationship with in relationship for eight years, so love is
(01:34):
kind of all I know, really, and I have a
habit of writing a lot of breakup songs for some reason.
So every time I go overseason do a writing trip,
I'd always come home and my my fiance'd be like, oh, well,
you know, show me the music you've made, and it's
all like sad breakup songs. So I'm like, this time
I want to I want to make an emphasis on
writing more love songs. So that's kind of how we
(01:55):
went about this one, and I think it was really fun.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
It would have been so nice as well coming back
from the and playing her that song.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yes, yes, she was much more happy with me so
I could do more.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Of that and I love as well, like that was
the last song you were working on when you were there,
and the fact that you've released it, it's such an
incredible song. That would be always It's always that.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
It's always that last one, like the last song you
make before you leave, or the one you make in
the hotel room. That doesn't matter. It's always those ones.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
That is always the way, isn't it. I saw the
video of you filming in La the TikTok of you're
walking down the street to burning house. Yeah, how many
takes did that take you to do? Because you're down
the street And.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
That was funny because we thought it was like a
relatively quiet street when we first got there because they
were filming on a car. So they were in a
car filming me and we're walking up the hill. One
it was actually a really steep hill, and so the
car was driving. I had to try and keep up
with the car and he kind of hit the accelerator
all too far sometimes on the camera and I would
do it time and time again because we couldn't get
(02:54):
a take without a car coming each way. And at
the end we're like you know what, We're never gonna
get this, so we're just gonna hold up traffic. And
there was people on the other side of the street
like blocking off the street making sure the hoe was
coming down. The people eventually started, you know, piling up traffic,
which I felt like it just added to the video,
but we did it a lot of times. We started
filming at like four pm, and obviously the take that
(03:16):
you see is like at night, so we were filming
for like four or five hours. I was just running
up and down that hill. It was Hey, it was
a good workout.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, that's crazy. Like it's funny as well there because
there's so many people out and about filming stuff. So
like even at the time, you'd have been like, oh
my god, like these people are waiting, but they would
be used to it.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
In La, there was a guy who came out of
his house because he kept on hearing like this music
playing in the car and like people like I was
driving up another street, so he's like what are you doing,
Like are you TikTok? And I'm like yeah, he like
followed me and I actually saw her commented on the video.
He's like, oh, I actually was there watching this happen.
That's pretty funny.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
That's so cool. I loved it, Like he saw you
on like online and was like, oh I was I
saw that he.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Saw he somehow soul of it. It was so good.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yeah, exactly, have done a video and sent it to
you like a behind the scenes thing.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Actually, that's a been a really good idea.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
And you've been releasing new music. What's next to you
planning on dropping an EP or an album?
Speaker 1 (04:11):
I went to LA we wrote a project. I just
wat a lot of music and I want to release
a body of the work at the end of this year.
Whether it's an album or an EP or mixape. I
don't know what to call it, but yeah, there's a
lot of music coming. I think my fans and everyone
knows me to make a lot of music, so I
feel like you'll be wrong to hold off on that.
So we can get a lot of music out this year.
(04:32):
I think it'll be I think it'll be exciting and.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
It's so cool as well. Your single Boys Don't Cry
from twenty twenty two is now going viral again. How
does that feel to know a song that came out
two years ago is now blowing up again.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
It's a good test in my music, I guess, and
it's timeless, and it's you know why I love the
internet so much in social media, and it's proof that
you know, a song is never dead, a song is
never over. If it went viral once, it can go
viral again. And I never expected it to go. It
went more viral this time that did the first time,
which is crazy two years later, but it's super cool
(05:05):
and I hope it continues happening.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
It's so good to see as well, because with your
social media you're so good at I've been following you
for a few years and doing the open verses and
everything like that. Like everything you do is so organic
on there, and it's so good to see the interaction
with everyone because you're getting new fans like all the time.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Which is the way I look at it, is every
video you posted reaches somebody new, and like that's the
thing with the you know, reposting Boys and Cry is
it went viral once in Germany and a lot of Europe,
and then this time it's going viralent in India and
Africa and all around the world. So it's like you
never know who's going to see it, and so you
can post the same video five times and it will
(05:41):
be reached by different people and gain new fans. So
that's why I just keep posting.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah. I also love the song you did with Topic
one two three. When I saw you guys teaching it,
I'm like, this is going to be a bop and
you released it it well.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Yeah, that was so fun. That was a big moment
for me because I've listened topics music for a long
time and when he reached out and said he was
in Sydney to catch up, then yeah, it was a
crazy story of that because we we linked up. He
only had like three days. He has like five days
in Australia, was just doing like every day a different city,
but he had like one free day in Sydney. We
met at the show. Next day we went into the
(06:13):
studio and made that song, and then the next day
he was in Brisbane performed that song in Brisbane. He
had like two days free in Byron, where I'm from,
So I flew down to Byron and we filmed some
content together and then like a month later the song
came out and it's it's done really well, So it
was it was.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
A cool moment that happened so fast, like the fact
that he was only here for like a few days,
and then you guys made the song.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
It was cool, we knew and we may be like,
oh this this could be something if we if we
do do it right.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Are you ready for a rapid round of questions?
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Yeah? Ready?
Speaker 2 (06:43):
How do you have your coffee am flat white? And
your dream collaboration justin bieble? Oh that would be amazing.
You're most used emoji.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Definitely the crying laughy face. Probably the one that's like
tilted much straight on, the tilted one so good.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
And how would you describe your music in three words?
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Emotional? Dark, exciting, vulnerable. I don't know, I'm bad with that.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
I love that. And what's your favorite show to binge?
Speaker 1 (07:15):
What? Modern Family? Probably All The Office?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Oh yeah, they never get old.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
They never get old. I'll watched them both like seven times.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
And if you could eat one thing for the rest
of your life, what would it be?
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Sushi?
Speaker 2 (07:26):
What's you go to sushi? Order?
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Either chicken sherioarchy. But the thing is like, that's what
I feel like, that's only an Australian thing. I've come
to realize. Salmon avocado, tarakey chicken, avocado.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Never go, always good. Here was some artists that in Spy.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
I mean Justin Bieber definitely, Chase Atlantic, big fan, post Malone,
Bryson Tilla, a lot of different artists from all kind
of genres. Tory Lane is a big fan.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
What's something you'd like to achieve this time next year?
Speaker 1 (07:55):
I hope that I can like headline a vessel would
be really pretty cool. I don't know this time next
year would be as a stretch, but yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Hopefully when I chat with you next next year, we'll
come back to this and we're like, yep, you made
it happen. Well, thank you so much for the chat.
So lovely to meet you, and congratulations with everything as well.
You're killing it. It's so good to see.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Thank you so much for having me and this was
a great chat.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
We're getting closer to finding out then number one song
and who will it be? And on TikTok you may
have seen an artist called Laybank. She releases these amazing
songs and the video clips that she does are so cool.
She does it with doctor Clips, who makes these cool
videos where it's like up close and he goes back
and he does all these effects on the videos. It's
really hard to explain, but I reckon you would have
(08:40):
seen his videos pop up because he's worked for quite
a few artists. She dropped this song at Tell You
Girlfriend and it blew up on TikTok. Is going to
be Stuck in your Head? It plays now coming in
at number two on clop one Countdown with jerm and
coming in at number one on the Countdown is the
catchiest song that's out right Now You'll be out and
then randomly this song would just be stuck in your head.
(09:03):
