We all know how important networking is. But did you know that it could be delicious? Nicole Dillon works in marketing and event planning, and she is also a bruncher. Combining the best of two worlds, Nicole created Women Who Brunch, a community of women who love networking, and learning from each other over brunch.

Highlights:

  • How did it all start? Nicole recounts everything that happened to her in 2013 that led her to start Women Who Brunch. It was a need to make real connections with people, not just getting a business card at some marketing event and forgetting about it over the weekend, and a need to meet and support women.
  • Making networking and learning a delicious experience. Nicole explains how Women Who Brunch works and what it means to everyone involved: it isn’t just an opportunity to learn, it is also an opportunity to make real connections, friendships even.
  • Looking for the human connection. For Nicole, in today’s world, we have so many ways to connect with each other, but it seems that we don’t know how to communicate with one another: haters on social media, the obsession over the number of followers, insecurities that we might have before posting. You need to find people (and content), that resonate with you, that inspire you.
  • Don’t let social media bring you down! There’s a thin line between finding content that inspires you and content that makes you compare yourself to others and feel down about it. Nicole had her fair share of those, but she was able to change her point of view: stop thinking about what others are doing, and focus on your story, yourself and your community.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
