Answer this week's question...

Are you TEAM get them on your email list or TEAM sell while the iron is hot?

Worried about sounding too salesy? You’re not alone!

So many entrepreneurs hold back from talking about their offers because they don’t want to turn people off.

The truth is, if you don’t share your offer, people won’t know it exists. And that means missed opportunities.

Selling doesn’t have to feel awkward.

Inside this episode of Coffee Social, Jonathan and I talked about how to sell in the way that it’ll feel natural. We also cover why not selling is actually hurting your audience and a simple way to promote that feels good.

You’ve got something valuable. Let’s make sure people know about it!

Grab a cup and enjoy!

very big on visualizing things.

our podcasting tour and wearingour fancy outfits.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
The fancy outfits that you're going to get from

That's right, I remember that.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yes, I'm going to get from rent the runway.
That's right, I remember that.
Yes, I would get you know, jimmy choo, choo choo jimmy choo
who else is a really good uhfashion designer?

Speaker 1 (01:12):

I think, is the name and, andthat might be shoes is it
christian soriento?

Speaker 2 (01:20):
no siriano from project one yeah, he does a good
job too christian siriano fromproject runway I got it right,
okay, anyways, I just visualizethat every single time I hear
the intro, I just think about uswalking on stage with our car
we're gonna be doing that alittle bit soon because we're

(01:41):
doing our live launch of theseason in.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
I know, but I'm talking in person I know, but we
have a live launch of theseason.
We might have a big audience,we don't know.
Well, that's very true.
It might lead to even biggerand better things.
That's very true.
By the way, you're hearing thisafter the live launch of the
season so it may or may not.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
You guys, welcome to Coffee Social.
If it's your first time here,we want to cheers.

We don't judge around here.

Speaker 1 (02:05):

She judged me earlier.
Jonathan, I can't have coffeetoday.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
He just can't do it.
That's okay.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
I have my Taylor Swift mug Shout out to Taylor,
pretending to be a Taylor Swiftfan.
Still, one day that'll end.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I'm getting her on the podcast.
That is my mission in life.
Her and the.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Rock.
I have a better chance when wesee her in Toronto.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
And Gordon Ramsay.
Yeah, you better tell her aboutus.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
I don't care about the Rock or Gordon Ramsay.
You know how people throwthings on the stage.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Don't hit her, but throw something coffee social on
the stage.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
What am I going to throw A coffee?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
mug at her Fail, jonathan getting escorted out of
the room.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
I got tackled by Kelsey, like really, this is not
what we need to have.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Anyway, yes, we do, that will change our lives.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Anyway, let's go.
We got a quick episode today.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
This is super.
This is all Jonathan's idea forthese micro episodes.
But you guys, real quick.
Because Mimi can't shut up, sowe're gonna skip our banter,
because that was kind of banter, yes, you guys.
Okay, let's talk about it.
From the title you can tellwe're going to talk about

(03:14):
basically how to not come off astoo salesy when you're
presenting your offer, howeveryou want to present it.
I feel like some people, theydon't even present their offer
because they don't want to givepeople the ick, they don't want
to give them a bad taste intheir mouth.
They don't want to come off asthe person that's always selling
something.
So this episode will tacklethat, right, jonathan?

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Absolutely.
Nobody wants to come off as theused car salesman.
You know the slimy used carsalesman's hair slicked back,
cigarettes slipped half out ofhis mouth going.
I got a good deal for you.
I got a good deal for you.
I got a good deal for you.
I'll get you this car for like$4,000 plus 4,000.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Why do you want?
You sounded like uh.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
I don't know.
I don't know.
Plus 4,000, whatever.
Nobody wants to be that person, but you're not that person.
You're not that person If it'snot how we sell.
I mean, there are some slimysellers, but that's not how
people normally sell in theindustry.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
We're talking to you directly because, you're right,
there are people that arescamish and that just don't do
it the right way.
But if you think about who youare, you know who you are and
the way you show up, and so youdeserve we're going to use a yo
fit word you deserve to presentyour offer and you deserve to
make money.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
You're solving a problem for the people that
you're helping.
You're solving a problem and, when you think of it that way,
you're actually doing them afavor by selling it to them.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
That's so true.
It really is your mindsetthat's messing with you, because
if he or she can go out thereand sell every single day, why
can't you?
It really is your limitingbelief and what you think about
it, and if you switch it likeJonathan just did, if you switch
it from selling to I'm givingthem a solution to their problem

(04:57):
, it might make you feel a lotbetter.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Yep, absolutely.
Let's go into our.
What are we talking about,though?
I know we have notes, becausewe always have notes.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Well, we already gave away one of them.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Should we go deeper on that one, then?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Well, I mean, you might have to warm yourself up,
right.
You might not, right out of thegate, feel comfortable or
confident enough to talk aboutyour offer just yet.
Like, slowly but surely, like, take it easy on yourself.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Practice is always what's going to make it easier.
Just keep practicing.
And if you're making the offerlike if you're doing it from a
stage, like Mimi does practiceand rehearse what you're going
to say you don't want it to beall written down and like I am
selling you this offer because Iwant to make some money and
that's obviously not what you'redoing to just feel comfortable,

(05:52):
settle into what you're sayingand say and if you need any
extra help with what you'redoing, you know and be specific
about the offer that you'remaking.
I don't have anything in frontof me, but be very specific
about how you can help them andwhat solutions you provide and
then what the outcome is afterthey get your solution, because
they're going to be going fromthat sad moment where they have
a problem to that happy momentwhere that problem is solved.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah, I love that, jonathan.
Eventually, at the end of theday, you'll reach the point
after you're done practicing andactually just doing it live
like you'll reach the pointwhere it just comes out
naturally and it feels naturalto talk about your own stuff.
Like that will happen, but youdo have to take that first step.
Talk about your own stuff Likethat will happen, but you do
have to take that first step.
And the other thing too isyou'll find little pockets, like

(06:35):
because people are like well, how do I set it up?
How do I make it Like?
We're trying to.
You know, some of us areperfectionists.
I'm still working on recoveringfrom that, but it's like it
doesn't have to be which way,one or the other.
Like sometimes when I'm hostinga live room, maybe you're going
to be hosting a live onInstagram.
You know, sometimes like I'mtalking about something and then
my offer pops into my head andI'm like this is the perfect

(06:56):
time to mention it.
So mention it because it makessense.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Right, absolutely.
When you have those momentswhen and even if it's something
like somebody comes up on stageand asks you a question and
you're going to answer part ofthat question, but the rest of
it is a lot of information thatyou don't have time to provide
because you've got other peoplein line, or whatever you can
simply say this is where youwant to start and give them that

(07:21):
breakdown, and don't forget tomention that you've got the
other thing that's going tosolve all the rest of their
problems.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
What you just like, because people are so nervous to
talk about what they offer.
It's like they answer thequestion and then that's it.
They just kind of wait forpeople to again go to their
profile, click the link that'sin there or whatnot, and it's
like you guys they don't do thatyeah tell them.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Tell them, jonathan, how it is.
Don't do that.
People are lazy as fuck.
I won't use that word.
People are lazy as shit.
They don't do it.
They don't.
Unless you tell them to dosomething.
They're not going to doanything.
So tell them hey, by the way,I've got this great offer for
you.
It's going to help solve theseproblems.
Click the link in my bio orsend me a word that says this,

(08:07):
or and just know you don't justdo it once and then think it's
over because no one bought?

Speaker 2 (08:22):
They obviously don't care.
You have to be selling all thetime and again, do it in your
own natural way.
Are you about to?

Speaker 1 (08:31):
yawn.
No, I was about to yell.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Who are you yelling at Just?

Speaker 1 (08:39):
people in general.
I'm going to skip it.
I'm going to skip it because Idon't need to be angry.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Wow, therapy is working for you.
I'm just kidding.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
No, what I was going to say is that there are so many
people out there that they areselling and they suck at
whatever they're doing.
They suck at the job that youhave that you're actually good
at, and you're not sellingbecause you're afraid that
people might judge you.
People might not like youroffer, people might, and you're
a hundred times better than thepeople that are actually making

(09:11):
money.
So why aren't you sellingthings?
Go out and sell, so important.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
And you guys, you're so right and there's so many
different ways to sell.
Again, it doesn't have to looklike one cookie cutter way and
Google different examples of howto sell things and you could
take little pieces from whatpeople do.
Pay attention to that too.
Do a little bit of marketresearch, pay attention to how
people are presenting offers onall the different platforms that

(09:41):
you choose to be on, and youcan grab some things.
The other thing, too, is littlesteps.
We talked about that.
If you're not fully comfortable, little steps and one of the
steps can literally just begetting people onto your email
list.
We talked about this in theother episode about monetizing
on social media getting peopleonto your email list.
We talked about this in theother episode about monetizing

(10:02):
on social media.
But you might not necessarilysell directly in that post or in
a live room or a live stream.
Maybe you'd rather get them onthe email list and sell them
that way.
You have to just find yourangle.
But the point is, at the end ofthe day, sell, sell, tell
people, not sell.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Tell people that you have a solution Serve.
Serve them, make sure theyunderstand that you can help
them, and then you will sell.
If you can help people, youwill sell your item.
And I think wait, are we at theend of the episode?

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Yeah.
Okay, look at that, I'm sad, because this was really good.
We could really go a fullepisode, but we'll, we'll keep
it here, we're going to keep ithere.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
I mean we're going to not yell anymore.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
We could always come back to it too.
I think this would be good topresent to a guest or a round
table in the future.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
So what we're going to saytoday is make sure it won.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
If you enjoyed this, this episode or other episodes
that we've had, make sure yougive us a review, give Mimi five
stars.
She loves that and, yeah, I'mgoing to throw it to Mimi.
I have you guys, the mostimportant question of them all,
and it has nothing to do withcoming off too salesy.
I'm just curious because we arein the winter.
Right, you're listening to this.
It's probably wintertime ifyou're listening in real time.
And I'm curious out there, since we love coffee here on

(11:28):
this podcast, do you still drinkiced coffee in the wintertime?
So put your water down.
People that are listening, thatare drinking water.
They put it down because theylisten, right, they?

Speaker 1 (11:43):
need direction.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
No, but are you team hot coffee or team iced coffee
during the winter?

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Iced coffee.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Really, you could drink that all year round.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
I can drink iced coffee year round.
I drink hot coffee and espresso, espresso, espresso, but I can
drink iced coffee.
Yeah, and my cold brew isalways cold, obviously.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Right, because then it wouldn't be cold brew.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Right, well, no, it would still be cold brew because
it's brewed cold.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Okay, that makes sense.
Do you think people take coldbrew and warm it up?

Speaker 1 (12:23):
I don't think so.
That would be gross.
But I'm just saying it couldstill be cold brew, because the
only thing that makes it coldbrew is it's brewed cold.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Okay, the next time we're together can we do that
Like a little experiment?
Where we make cold brew andheat it up.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah, cold brew takes a long time to make.
You need a bucket A bucket.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Yes, I've seen people not use a bucket.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
And it's brewed in a refrigerator.
We brewed it at Starbucks.
It was brewed in a bucket.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Well, that's Starbucks, because you guys are
giving it to a lot of people.
Well yeah, you got to downsizea little bit.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
It's just you and me, all right, fair enough.
Thank you everyone.
Bye.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Thanks for watching and listening.
Bye, Jonathan Howard.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
