Wife (00:03):
Miss, do you trust me?

Nick (00:10):
Of course, my lord, with all my heart.

Wife (00:14):
Then close your eyes.

Nick (00:17):
Okay. Kinda like the last one. I kinda like thinking that
maybe my just inherent chaos is,is influencing the world in just
a small way.

Matt (00:31):
It's the contrast.

Nick (00:32):
What's the Yeah. I mean, I tried an unboxing video. What
can I say? I tried it. There, Idid it.
My favorite comment of my own.

Matt (00:40):
That's the first step to getting better at unboxing

Nick (00:44):
videos. My my fur oh, my favorite comment on the video of
that I made on the video was, Icould have watched unboxing
videos and figured out how to dothis and do it like they do it,
but that's not how I've everlived my life from this from in
the past ever. So why would I dothat from this point moving
forward?

Matt (01:01):
100%.

Nick (01:03):
You just feel like how can I find new paths if I'm always
looking at my feet? So I amRachel.

Matt (01:11):
Maybe that is how you find a new path.

Nick (01:13):
Shut up. Hi.

Matt (01:14):
You're not looking at the the trail that other people have
put.

Nick (01:17):
That's what I mean. If I'm always looking for a path, how
can I find new paths? See?Sometimes you trip more
obviously because you're notlooking at your feet, but
ultimately you find a new way.So, hi, I'm Rachel.
And I'm Matt. And this iscomment god damn it.

Matt (01:34):
It says it on the display there. No.

Nick (01:36):
It doesn't. No. It does. Okay. Hi,

Matt (01:41):
You're welcome.

Nick (01:42):
Where is your bit on the fucking button?

Matt (01:49):
You you can also tap the touch screen.

Nick (01:52):
Tap the touch screen. I just wanted to have never said
that. So I have possible timehigh ability forever. Okay. Hi.
I'm Rachel.

Matt (02:03):
And I'm Matt.

Nick (02:04):
And this is Come in 81 kilo.

Matt (02:06):
A forever night podcast.

Nick (02:58):
Okay. So today, we're talking about Forever Knight
season 3 episode 14, dead ofnight.

Matt (03:05):
AKA the ghost episode.

Nick (03:08):
The fucking ghost episode.

Matt (03:10):
I've heard the phrase, oh, the ghost episode so many times.

Nick (03:14):
Yeah. I told her that'd be ghost.

Matt (03:17):
But everybody's done a really good job of not revealing
any details about the ghostepisode.

Nick (03:23):
Is it because we haven't revealed any details or because
there are no details to reveal?I don't know. Inquiring minds
wanna know.

Matt (03:34):
You're about to find out.

Nick (03:35):
I guess.

Matt (03:36):
Stay tuned.

Nick (03:37):
For this week's exciting episode of come in 81 kilo. We
just got back. I just got backfrom 2 back to back vacations. I
had a whirlwind tour of, MegaConin Orlando where I met Katharine
Disher, who is fabulous andwonderful. And please, if you
see her anywhere within drivingdistance of you, go.
Don't think about it. Just go.

Matt (03:59):
And tell her Rachel sent you.

Nick (04:01):
And I yeah. Tell her I sent you. But I feel like now
the the the more I talk to KathThrin, like, keep wanting to
call her Kathy because wejokingly she I got a cameo Canva
Cameo Cameo from her where sheintroduces, hi. I'm Kathy
Disher. So we've been jokinglycalling her Kathy, but, like, I
don't think we're on a Kathybasis.

(04:22):
So, Catherine

Matt (04:23):
Forced familiarity.

Nick (04:24):
The more I, interact with Catherine Disher and fight find
out how sassy she actually is inreal life, the more I love
Natalie. So it's a feedback loopof, like, the more you know one,
the more you love the other. Soif you already love Natalie,
bonus points, go meet her. You'll love Natalie even more.

(04:46):
So we also went on a cruise, which is why I sound like this
because people are dirty andthat's why I generally try not
to be associated with them, humanity, as a whole.
But here we are. We went on acruise and the kids really had a
good time, but cruise crud.

Matt (05:02):
Yeah.

Nick (05:03):
And con crud. And I don't know. Maybe my body was so
overjoyed from when I walked upto the table and Kathy knew who
I was and was like, can I have ahug? And I like I don't know.
The the favorite part okay.
So Meg and I are gonna do arecap. We're gonna do a recap,
and we'll probably post it onGear Can Get It and cross post
it here. But I just wanna sharethat when she came around the

(05:25):
corner, I went, oh, like, I feelthe lips yips out. And then when
she was like, you're Rachel. Iwas like, yeah.
Like, can I can we hug? Yeah.Yeah. We can. So I just want
right now.
I I hug Katherine Disher, and Ifeel like I don't know. Life

(05:45):
where where do I go from here? The highest of highs has already
happened. Alright. So, yes, asMatt noted, this is the ghost
episode.
It's like stealth ridiculous, like on the on the surface, this
is a super ridiculous episode. But if you think about it a
little bit, it gets lessridiculous, which is kind of why

(06:07):
I like this episode. Also, funfact, this was the last new
episode I ever saw.

Matt (06:15):
Like, the last episode that you had never seen before.

Nick (06:18):
Correct. I think I mentioned I watched them. I had
to watch them out of orderbecause for some reason, sci fi
was, like, do these do these goin order? And they were like,
no. They don't have an order.
Just throw them up there. Nobodygives a shit. They're what
they're they're sitting down atnoon to watch Dark Shadows and
Forever Night. They don't carewhat order it's coming in. So I
watched these in the order thatthey were aired, which was out

(06:38):
of order.
And for some reason, I missedthis one. I ended up having to
find it on the Internet anddownload it, like, back when it
took you, like, days to downloada single episode, and it was
still itty pitty when you gotit. And I actually think I
burned like a VCD of this. Mhmm.Because everything else I had
recorded on videotapes, but thisI had a VCD of.
But, it's, I hesitate to sayit's one of my favorite

(07:01):
episodes, but there'sdefinitely, it's one of those
episodes that can be as deep asyou want it to be. It can be the
whoo, it's the ghost episode, orit can be like, oh, we are all
haunted by past mistakes. Andmaybe there are places in the
world that are thin enough thatliterally the the guilt and

(07:21):
doubt we feel inside canmanifest into something
physical. Mhmm. Yeah.
Yeah. So we open on our hauntedhouse, which is a really this
cold opening is like

Matt (07:33):
This cold open feels unusual.

Nick (07:36):
Yeah.

Matt (07:38):
It has a different vibe than most of the, like, here's
the crime before the intro.

Nick (07:43):
You know what this feels like? It feels like the
Halloween episode.

Matt (07:49):
Yeah.

Nick (07:49):
Do you remember it? Get into October and all of your
favorite shows would suddenly belike, okay. Upcoming is the
Halloween special, and theHalloween special was always
just a little bit spooky. Or theSimpsons used to have their
Halloween special every yearthat was always over the top and
crazy. Yeah.
This feels like the Halloweenepisode. Like, stay tuned.

(08:10):
Forever night will air itsspecial Halloween episode. So we
start with this haunted house.Probably feels weird because
this is not an exterior we'veseen before.

Matt (08:19):
It's not the house.

Nick (08:20):
It's not the house. It's a new house, and they're walking
inside. And the little caretakerguy is like, oh, there's no
power. We had some contractorscome in to turn it on, but they
they got run off on account ofthe ghost. The guy was touring
and is like, you're a moron, andI'm not keeping you.
And he's like, I come with theproperty. In fact, the realtor

(08:42):
is like, part of the contractthat you're preparing to sign
stipulates you have to keep themon. And he's like, no. I don't.
No.
I don't. But the property owner, whose name is Ogden, he's not
there because it's in the middleof the night for some reason.
They're touring this house at,like, 10 o'clock at night, which

(09:03):
it's not occupied. You couldtour it at any time. So I don't
know why they're there so late, but it doesn't matter.
So, wine trough, who is thisguy, the asshole guy who's
planning to buy it? We don'tfind his name out for a while,
but it's, wine trough, like atrough full of wine.

Matt (09:20):
Sure.

Nick (09:21):
And I'm like, I think you know what? These people had to
come up with a lot of namesbecause we we have to come up
with names for every singleepisode. Episode. I'm sure after
a while, they were like, I don'tknow. I'm drunk.
Maybe wine wine trough? Winetrough. Wine trough. That's his
name. And he turns to therealtor, and he's like, why
isn't he here?
She's like, because it's thefucking middle of the night. And

(09:42):
he's like, well, then go wakehim up. And she says, I guess
I'll go try him on my car phone. And he goes, you do that then.
And then so she walks off.
So the caretaker's gone off togo to try to turn the
electricity up. Turn on thejuice as he says later. And the
realtor goes out to talk on hercar phone, so our asshole is
left all alone.

Matt (10:02):
And decides to explore the house.

Nick (10:03):
Well, he hears a voice. He hears a disembodied voice
upstairs

Matt (10:07):
Calling him.

Nick (10:07):
And so he goes goes upstairs exploring with his
flashlight. And he's up in thisattic room, and the double
window doors fly open. And he'slike, oh, what's happening over
there? So he walks over to lookthrough the doors. And while
he's staring at the doors, there's actually a shadow.
Drop. There's a shadow in thedoorway behind him. It's pretty

(10:28):
cool looking. I mean, this is aspooky episode. Yeah.
It's sufficiently spooky. And heturns, and he's like, oh, no.
And then he gets pushed out thewindow and impaled on this
fence. And Matt was like, that'sa

Matt (10:39):
An unrealistic amount of gore.

Nick (10:41):
Like, I mean, there's gore on it. He was like, no. Like,
there's not enough. There shouldbe.

Matt (10:45):
If he was impaled through the belly Yeah. With all that
ornamentation, like, basically, barbs, it would grab a bunch of
stuff on the way through.

Nick (10:53):
It would nearly cut him in half. Yeah. And you're all
squishy bits in the middle.Yeah.

Matt (10:58):
You're all squishy stringy bits.

Nick (10:59):
Yeah. That's all just muscle holding that in or, you
know, just flesh depending onwhere you are in life. So we pan
up, and we see a person in

Matt (11:08):
the Where you are on your journey.

Nick (11:10):
Exactly. We're we're all at different places and that's
fine. I respect that. So we panup and we see this person in the
window and then bada bada go tothe intro. That's it.
That's our opening. Spooky. Oh.It's the ghost episode. So we
come back and Natalie is at thecrime scene alone.

(11:30):
We see Natalie alone.

Matt (11:33):
We get a lot of scenes where the scene at least starts
with each main character alone.

Nick (11:39):
I mean, like, where's Nick? Isn't he supposed be
chaperoning her? I'm pretty sureshe's not allowed out of the
morgue if Nick's not with her.Or she said at the con, if they
weren't dead, I probably didn'tinteract with them because she
was sitting right next to GeorgeBusa, I think is his name. And
he's the one who he was thevoice of the beast, but he was
also doctor Dave, and he was thereligious brother in the sons of

(12:03):
Billiell episode.
Mhmm. And Meg was like, oh,yeah. He was in forever night
too. I'm gonna go over and gethis I'm gonna go and get his
signature. Natalie was like,what?
I didn't know he was in it. Shedoesn't have any scenes. Not
Natalie. Her name is Katherine.Katherine Disher was like, I I
didn't know that.
And, like, we didn't have anyscenes together. She's like,
yeah. If he didn't die, Iprobably didn't talk to him. She

(12:26):
was so sassy. I loved it.
So, anyway, Natalie alone. Andwe come in and we get this
interesting little line wherethe caretaker is talking to
Tracy and he says, the houseisn't haunted, just the people
who come in it.

Wife (12:47):
It's not the house that's supposed to be haunted. It's the
people that go in it. That's thelegend anyway.

Nick (12:53):
That's the legend anyways. Which is an interesting premise

Matt (12:58):
Yeah. To distinguish this from, oh, it's just another
haunted house.

Nick (13:02):
Yeah. There is not a specific haunting in this house.
There is not the ghost of thepast owner who died falling down
the stairs or whatever. It iswhatever ghost you bring to the
house that haunts you whileyou're there.

Matt (13:15):
It's like Luke in the cave on Dagobah.

Nick (13:18):
That is exactly what it is like. Thank you so much. The
only evil in there is what youtake with you. Yep. Yeah.
I'm sorry. I did really goodkeeping it straight, then I just
I lost it. So Nick is like Nickwalks up because he's off
camera, and he, like, walks upto the group. And he's, like,
oh, yeah. I've I've heard aboutthis place.

(13:38):
It's like a doorway orsomething. And that, Tracy says,
oh, a portal. And the guy goes,it's a porthole to somewhere.
And then the caretaker is like,I mean, personally, I've never
had any experiences here, but Ihave no skeletons in my closet.
I don't have anything I feelguilty about.
Even those people that I killed,nothing. I got nothing. I don't

(13:58):
feel like I got it.

Matt (14:00):
I don't have any

Nick (14:01):
any strong emotions about it. Which means this is like a a
sociopath or a psychopath wouldnot be LaCroix LaCroix would not
be haunted if you

Matt (14:08):
walked in this house. Maybe Fleur. Maybe. Maybe Fleur.
Maybe Fleur.

Nick (14:13):
Oh, you could've seen Fleur again. Aw. Alas.

Matt (14:18):
Either a, like, sociopath or the most mentally healthy
person that anyone has ever met.

Nick (14:28):
Yeah. So this caretaker.

Matt (14:29):
Yeah. Yeah. He's one or the other.

Nick (14:31):
But he's healed. Okay? He's

Matt (14:33):
He's either healed or he's never or he's he's immune to
damage. Yeah. He's immune topsychic damage.

Nick (14:41):
Could be. So Tracy's like, okay. So there was only 3 of
them in this house. You know, there was the realtor, there was
you, and there was assholeWeintraub. And the guy's like,
yeah.
That was it. You know, I left togo turn the juice on, and then I
don't know. She left to go talkon her phone or whatever. But,
like,

Matt (14:59):
She says the line, oh, yeah. I was in waiting in the
car on my phone

Nick (15:04):
Yeah.

Matt (15:04):
Which sounds like a very modern line

Nick (15:06):
Right.

Matt (15:08):
That you didn't get much in the nineties.

Nick (15:10):
Oh, waiting in the car. Well, she had to be in the car
to be in her phone becausethat's where her phone lived.
She couldn't take it out.

Matt (15:15):
Sounds like, oh, yeah. I was just scrolling, Yeah. TikTok
on my phone.

Nick (15:18):
Yeah. Exactly. But they're like, you know, sorry, mister
caretaker guy, but you need togo down. We're gonna get your
statement at the at theprecinct. And he's like, I mean,
give me a lie detector if youwant.
I didn't do shit.

Matt (15:31):
Sure. Whatever. His soul is clean.

Nick (15:33):
Yeah. He's like, I'm fine. I did I did nothing. So that's
great.

Matt (15:37):
And And Tracy is like, just bring a lawyer with you.

Nick (15:42):
Yeah. She goes, we'll interview you. Get a lawyer.
It's gonna be fine. You know, she knows.
They know. This guy didn't doanything.

Matt (15:49):
Right.

Nick (15:50):
And he walks off and they're turning to go walk
towards the realtor lady andTracy goes, I'm guessing you're
not much of a believer to Nick.Like, I'm guessing the
supernatural is just, like, notyour thing. And Nick goes, I
plead the 5th.

Matt (16:07):
So in Canada

Nick (16:09):
Yeah. Yeah.

Matt (16:13):
I'm guessing it's not called the 5th amendment in
Canada.

Nick (16:16):
Listen. The majority of the Canadian population lives
within, like, a certain range ofthe border. Mhmm. It's like a
band of population. And I haveto imagine there's some bleed
through.

Matt (16:28):
Oh, yeah. As a as a phrase, as a one liner Yeah. I
plead the 5th. Yeah. There'senough, you know, shared
cultural context.

Nick (16:38):
Right. I actually hear I plead the 5th more in these
nineties television shows than Ihear in real life.

Matt (16:46):
Well, yeah.

Nick (16:46):
I'm not certain. The only amendment I ever hear about But
is the second amendment.

Matt (16:56):
And only

Nick (16:57):
The right to bear arms.

Matt (16:58):
Half of one of these sentences.

Nick (17:00):
Just the right to bear arms, which there's way more to
it than that. But I love thenever mind. I just love the
people that walk up in the like, the videos online, people that
walk up to people at gunprotests, and they're like,
okay. Can you cite the entiresecond amendment? And they're
like, yeah.
The right to bear arms. Andthey're like, there's way more
to it than that.

Matt (17:20):
It's a paragraph.

Nick (17:21):
It's a paragraph.

Matt (17:22):
Not half a sentence. Yeah.

Nick (17:25):
Oh, so the realtor is upset, obviously, because her
client died while she was out onher phone in the car. Not on
TikTok, just making phone callsbecause you could have a cell
phone and that was fine, but ithad shit reception. Or you could
have a car phone and that waslike a satellite phone and that
had better reception. So a lotof times you had a car phone

(17:47):
because you got, you know, itwas a better Bigger antenna.
Yeah.
So, the realtor tells them thatshe heard him fall. She looked
over, and she saw a figure. Andwe get this, like, weird flash
thing where it shows, like, thehouse and it pans up, and
there's a figure. And it's like

Matt (18:02):
It's a figure with a backlight behind it.

Nick (18:04):
And it's this weird, like, sound. And then she's like, and
then I saw it, and there was nofigure. And then we get the
sound again.

Matt (18:12):
Honestly, I noticed a few times in this episode, the Foley
artist Yeah. The person who addssound effects that aren't, like,
audible on the microphones Yeah. They had a job to do in this
episode. So, like, there's whenNick is first walking

Nick (18:31):
in just the sound of leather on leather?

Matt (18:34):
Right.

Nick (18:34):
Yeah.

Matt (18:35):
Nick is walking into a room, and there's a rocking
chair. And he, like, rocks therocking chair.

Nick (18:41):
Yeah.

Matt (18:41):
And it has a very, like, distinct You're like, oh. Creaky
noise.

Nick (18:45):
Yeah.

Matt (18:46):
But it's not quite in sync with the rocking of the chair. I
was like, oh, okay. So somebodyLook. They woke

Nick (18:52):
him up.

Matt (18:53):
Okay. We need we need the Foley artist for this episode.
But it's it's gonna be Jeremy, not not not, Fred.

Nick (19:01):
Well, no. No. No. They woke him up, and they were like,
okay. We need sounds.
And he was like, okay. I'll getmy high heels on hard floor. And
he's like, no. No. Not hard.
Not high heels on hard floor. Weneed other sounds. What do you
mean other sounds?

Matt (19:12):
Are there other sounds?

Nick (19:13):
What other sounds could I possibly? The whoosh? You need
the whoosh? Not the whoosh.

Matt (19:19):
Because I just go in the microphone, and then I slow it
down.

Nick (19:24):
Like the guy who did the worm sound for the new worms in
Dune, and he, like, stuck themicrophone in his mouth and made
a gargling noise.

Matt (19:31):
Yeah. He stuck it all the way down into his mouth.

Nick (19:35):
That'd be kind of fun, actually. Yeah. But, anyway,
Nick goes up because they tellthe realtor they're gonna go to
the precinct, and they're like, okay. Well, we're gonna walk
around, not they. She needs togo to the precinct.
Sorry. They tell the realtorthat she needs to go to the
precinct, and she's like, well,I didn't do anything. And
they're like, okay. Well, that, like, remains to be seen. You
need to get

Matt (19:55):
Also bring your lawyer.

Nick (19:56):
Also bring your lawyer. So go go go. And she leaves. And so
Nick is like, well, I'm goingup. And Tracy's like, okay.
Well, I'm gonna walk around downhere. Like, let's divide and
conquer. Let's check out thishouse. And Tracy's like, listen,
Nick. If I see anything weird,I'll scream.
And Nick's like, please don't.It it does a thing. Like, I have

(20:18):
instincts. They can't betrusted. Please don't screw.
So he goes up to look at thewindow. He looks around for a
while, and then he, like, breaksthe police tape, steps out the
window. And I mean, like, what'sgonna happen? He can't fall and
die. So he's like, it's fine.
I'll go up here. And he'sactually hearing whispers, like,
for oh, I missed that part.Sorry. My gosh. He's standing at

(20:40):
the bottom of the stairs, and helooks up and we start to hear
whispers, which I like thiseffect in this episode where
when they're sensing somethingsupernatural happening, there's,
like, a overlapping voicessound.

Matt (20:51):
Mhmm.

Nick (20:52):
And he's, like, caught up in it for a minute, and then
Natalie Huang puts her hand onhis shoulder. And he's like,
what? What?

Matt (20:59):
Yeah. He Gary's doing a good job of looking distracted.

Nick (21:02):
Yeah. And Natalie's like, well, in highly technical terms,
he fell, he died. Well, it lookspretty cut and dried to me.
Railing broke. In highlytechnical terms, he fell, he
died.
Yes. Thank you. And then shelooks over at Nick, and she's
like, this place frightens you?Because he looks a little

(21:24):
scared. And Nick goes, yeah.
But let's keep it between us. K.And so he goes upstairs, and
then a lady walks over to getNatalie to sign, like, the
officers on duty paper. It'slike a Rudy duty roster paper
thing. And she takes it to sign, and she looks over at the
officer's name badge, and itsays, Natasha.

(21:47):
And Natalie's like, woah. Thattakes me back. My grandmother
used to call me Natasha. And thelady's like, I'm sorry. What the
fuck?
And so she looks back over, andthe name badge says Kate Nash.
That was pretty cool. Yeah. It'sa nice subtle uh-oh. Shit's gone
awry.
Instead of having, like, laterwhen we have actual chairs
floating around and blinkinglights and whatever.

Matt (22:10):
They they ease us into it.

Nick (22:11):
We do. We do. We it's like steeping tea. It would takes a
while to get to full ghost mode. But Tracy's looking around.
She walks past this doorway, andwhen she walks past it, there's
a little girl in a snowsuitstanding

Matt (22:23):
in the doorway. Doesn't notice.

Nick (22:25):
Tracy Tracy doesn't notice because god bless Tracy, but
observation observation is itmaybe her strong suit.

Wife (22:33):
Like Nick?

Nick (22:34):
Like Nick. I mean, they're a real partnership. You know
what I'm saying? Skanky covereda lot of gaps. I feel like Nick
and Tracy are just sort ofsimpatico.
Like, they're just kind of thesame. And then Nick is upstairs,
and the electricity fizzles out, like, the electricity fizzles
out. And we hear this, like, moan scream, which now this one

(22:55):
does not sound like it wasadded. This sounds like they had
somebody off screen go, woah. And Nick is like, oh, woah.
What could that be? And this iswhen he goes out on the ledge,
and he looks down, and he sees awhite figure among the cars. And
I've always thought this one wasreally funny because she's
supposed to be looking etherealand out of place because she's

(23:15):
lit, and she's got a cloak kindalike in last act when the lady
had the cloak because it

Matt (23:20):
And she looks really glowy. Yeah.

Nick (23:22):
But she's also just leaning on a car staring at the
flashing light.

Matt (23:28):
She looks like when she leans over, it's this really
awkward looking position.

Nick (23:32):
Yeah. But she's staring at the flashing light in the front
window of the car. And then sheturns and looks up, and it's a
young woman, a young blondewoman. And so we know
immediately he has hit that.

Matt (23:46):
Or he tried to.

Nick (23:47):
Or he tried to anyway. And this is actually I think her
name is Carrie MachetteMachette. She plays in cube 2
hypercube with him.

Matt (23:55):
Okay. She and she's been in a ton of stuff.

Nick (23:57):
Yeah. She plays in code 8, which is a newer movie, and I
think they're actually making asequel to it. Code 8 something,
the continuation part 2, thesearch for more money. And then,
she was in, like, a bunch oftelevision shows where she was
in, like, 75 plus episodes. She's gone on to have a very
good, like, TV career.
Mhmm. So you probably recognizeher, but this is one of the

(24:19):
first things she's in. So we allcome back down. We convene on
the car. And Tracy looks over atthe car, and in the car seat is
the little girl ghost, like, inher her car seat.
In her in her booster seat inthe front. It's this little girl
ghost. And she sticks her headin, and she's like, oh my god,

(24:39):
Nick. Did you see that? AndNick's like, see what?
Are you are you okay? AndTracy's like, honestly, I'm not
sure. It doesn't help that Tracyis very open to supernatural
things and that Nick actually isa supernatural thing. And we
spend a lot of timeinvestigating the ghosts in this
episode, and I love every timeReese calls them out, like, you

(25:03):
are not investigating themurder. This is not about a
fucking ghost.
Ghost did not murder this man.Stop looking into the ghost. And
they're like, but the ghosts, though, cap. Like, look at the
ghosts.

Matt (25:15):
The captain. The ghosts.

Nick (25:17):
These must be the most infuriating 2 people in his
entire life, Because every oncein a while, I mean, they solve
every case. They solve everycase. How they get there is
highly suspect every singletime. It must be like, so Nick
has tenure. He can't do anythingwith her.

(25:38):
Tracy, him. And Tracy can'tlike, what can he do with Tracy?
She's the commissioner'sdaughter. So these are 2 people
he can't get rid of. And

Matt (25:47):
Right. And then anytime he even mentions it to someone
Yeah. Like in HR, HR is like, well, okay. Let's let's take a
look at their their record.Yeah.
Wait. This this is your bestperforming

Nick (26:00):
team. They close every case, and he's like, have you
looked at the cases? Look atwhat they do. And what he needs
what he needs is a string offailures so he can bring that up
and be like, hey, we really needto get this Nick guy off the
force and maybe put Tracy on adesk. And it never happens.

Matt (26:18):
But when it goes into when when it gets to the point where
they need to justify, like, acomplaint Yeah. It's always just
I don't know. It bothers me whenwhen we're going through the
process of them solving thecase. Yeah. I just feel like
things are kinda hand wavy, andit always works out.

(26:42):
But But only because thebackpack reveals themselves.
Argue with the results. It'sjust the technique.

Nick (26:51):
They literally just blunder.

Matt (26:52):
They're doing it wrong.

Nick (26:54):
They literally bundle around in the dark until they
hit the bad task.

Matt (26:57):
Failed successfully.

Nick (26:58):
Failed successfully every fucking time. Like, in the feet
look at the last episode. Theyinvestigated nothing. They
talked to no one. They broughtin no one else who was in the
study.
They didn't talk to any of hercolleagues. They did nothing.
And both of them kept leaving togo, quote, talk to a sick friend

(27:19):
or sit with a sick friend. Sothey were alternatingly not even
being there to solve this case. And literally, the only way it
got solved is Nick got yelled atthat he needed to go talk to the
like, he needed to go talk toCalvin.
So he goes to talk to Calvin, and Calvin's like, yeah. I did
it. And that's how it getssolved. So anyway, they actually

(27:42):
go do some investigation, Iguess. They go talk to the
property owner.
They're like, I don't know. I'llgo talk to the property owner.
They go talk to the propertyowner and this is the weirdest
scene cause he's like, oh, yes. It's extremely haunted. Sharell
can attest to that.
Can't you sweetheart? Thislittle like blonde lady who's
serving everybody tea or coffeeor whatever. And he goes, she's

(28:05):
had encounters there in the deadof night.

Wife (28:09):
Of course, it's haunted. Ch'rell can attest. Can't you,
we? She's had encounters therein the dead of night.

Nick (28:16):
Oh, episode title. But I don't think she even gets a
line. She's just like, nod, nod.Yes. And then he says later,
he's talking about, oh, I havean alibi.
I was exercising. Sharelle washelping with me with that.
Weren't you sweetheart? Look,it's just the weirdest, like,
lecherous old man and his hotsecretary.

Matt (28:38):
Mhmm.

Nick (28:39):
Yeah. Which is probably good because it makes us
immediately dismiss thischaracter. You're like, oh,
okay. Yeah. His hot secretary.
Okay. Whatever.

Matt (28:47):
Right. Right. It's just a part of this guy's character
introduction.

Nick (28:51):
And Ogden is surprisingly open minded. He's like, ghosts
are just people without bodies, detective. There's still people.
They just don't have bodies. Andhe says, Kessel House, which is
the haunted house, is a reversemedium in which the dead come to
the living for closure.
And they're like, okay. SoGepfer Gepfer. That's his first

(29:12):
name. Gepfer Weintrough. Did youknow

Matt (29:16):
he did this character?

Nick (29:17):
Did you know him? And Ogden's like, I mean, I didn't
know him except that he was anasshole, and I didn't kill him
because I was exercising. Winkwink. Right, Shirelle? She's my
personal trainer.

Matt (29:29):
Don't you know?

Nick (29:30):
Don't you know? And he says, one of the things I'm
looking forward to when I becomea ghost is losing all of the
extra, like the Yeah.

Matt (29:38):
Like, bulky package

Nick (29:39):
or anything. The bulky packaging is what he says. And
Nick is like, okay. But he doessay that he had Gafford sign a
waiver before he inspected theproperty. He's like, I told him
it was hella haunted, and hesaid he was gonna be fine, and I
made him sign a waiver.
So whatever. And Tracy says, didGafford believe it was haunted?

(30:00):
These are not importantquestions to the murder. Like,
whether or not the house washaunted has absolutely fucked
all we do.

Matt (30:08):
Nick and Tracy's process works, so they've never had to
correct it.

Nick (30:16):
It's literally instead of being like, did you did what did
he interact with anybody else inyour group? Did he interact with
Shirelle? Was there anyone thatyou saw who was upset with him?
Did you notice any strangebehavior? Like, did he look like
he was being like, none of that.
They're just like, do you thinkhe thought it was haunted? And

(30:37):
Ogden goes, well, I know hedidn't yesterday.

Matt (30:40):
I haven't talked to him since.

Nick (30:42):
I haven't talked to him since. And And then we go to
Natalie in the morgue, and she'srecording her notes. And this
older lady appears behind her. She's in the, freezer room,
which we don't see very oftenanymore, but she's in this
freezer room. And this old ladyappears behind her,

Rachel (30:56):
and she's like, oh, in that pie shop, this is

Nick (30:59):
an awful place. I didn't know Natalie was Russian.

Matt (31:04):
Is she ethnically Russian?

Grandma (31:06):
Why don't you come to see me, Natasha?

Nick (31:09):
Natalie's like, grandma? And then she said something
about she says something inRussian, something like

Grandma (31:17):
Natasha, why you don't come see me in hospital? Why you
don't come see?

Nick (31:28):
I don't even remember now because you made a crack. You
were like, hang on. When didNatalie become Russian? It just
blew it all out of my head.Anyway so, yeah, apparently,
Natalie, whose name is Natalie,is also Natasha, the
granddaughter of her Russianbabushka.
Isn't that what her mother is?

Matt (31:49):
In the credits, she's nana cash.

Nick (31:52):
Oh, okay. Nana Tash?

Matt (31:55):
I'm guessing that was that was her nana.

Nick (31:58):
Okay. But she's not okay. It doesn't matter. It doesn't
matter. Matt was like, wait.
She's Russian? I was like, yeah.Lambert is a well known Russian
surname, obviously. Yeah. Sothat's Natalie's first
encounter.
Well, I guess it's kind of hersecond encounter because her
grandmother also fucked withthat name tag, but this is,
like, her first, oh, shit. I gotfollowed home by this

(32:21):
supernatural entity. And we comeback, and we're in this
interrogate like, in theinterrogation room is somebody
that they're talking to. Iforget. Maybe the realtor.
And Reese is talking to Natalie, not Nick and Tracy in the little
room right outside theinterrogation room, the weird
cinder block room that theyalways have intense

(32:41):
conversations in. And and Reeseis like, okay. We know this was
foul play. He went over theforce. He went over the railing
with enough force to push therailing down.
That tells me he was pushed. AndTracy goes, don't know how we
missed that one, but she's,like, looking at Nick like wink
wink. Like, what what do youmean, Tracy? Are you mocking

(33:04):
Reese? Are you mocking yourself?
Who are we mocking in thismoment? Because she literally
goes, don't know how we missedthat one. What? And then Reese
is like, we aren't focusinghere, people. I mean, what else
is new?
I feel like they're on animprovement plan because he's
following them. He's followingthem this entire episode because

(33:25):
last episode, he was leavingthem to their own devices and
look what happened. They solvedthe case, but, like, by
accident.

Matt (33:32):
Right. This seems like the the head canon of Nick and Tracy
are are on a performanceimprovement plan. Yeah. The only
justification for, like, acorrection to the way they do
things from, like, a managementperspective is it's just PR
issues. Like, guys, we're policeofficers.

(33:56):
You're detectives. We need to beperceived as more professional
Yeah. Than you are.

Nick (34:02):
Well, the problem is that they solve the case, but it
always takes 1 to 2 additionalmurders before they figure it
out. So instead of catching theguy right away and stopping all
the additional murders, we haveto keep waiting until the
evidence mounts up sospectacularly that they trip
over it and land on the villain.

Matt (34:22):
But then it's always a slam dunk conviction.

Nick (34:25):
Yeah. Well, I mean

Matt (34:26):
And a larger sentence.

Nick (34:27):
If you wait long enough, they're gonna mess up. Sure. So
Reese is like, okay. The agentsaid she left to go use her car
phone. And Tracy goes, well, that's easy enough to verify.
And Reese goes, well, did you?And looks over at Tracy. Tracy
goes, no. And then he looks atNick, and Nick's like, you can
verify that?

Matt (34:50):
You what? You can just ask the spirits in in the boxes?

Nick (34:56):
I still don't know.

Matt (34:57):
And you trust them?

Nick (34:57):
I still don't know how electricity works. You want me
to do that?

Matt (35:01):
Like like, when the electricity flickers earlier

Nick (35:03):
Yeah.

Matt (35:04):
It doesn't bother Nick because he's lived the 94 95% of
his life with no electricity.

Nick (35:10):
That was fine. So Reese is like, well, surprise
motherfuckers. I tried to verifyit, and the cell phone company
said that it wasn't used allnight. So there goes her alibi.
What are we gonna do about it?
And Tracy and Nick are like, crickets. Talk Talk to her. Yes.
Forget to talk. And Rhys goes, the caretaker said he left

(35:34):
Gafford with the lady realtor, and the lady realtor said she
left Gafford alone.
And that's 2 prime suspects, soplease, for the love of fucking
god, go get me something. Youonly have to talk to 2 people. 2
people. And they're like, okay.We got this.
And Natalie comes in. Nataliecomes in.

Matt (35:52):
Yeah. I I have I have the the questionnaire, like, script

Nick (35:56):
Yeah.

Matt (35:56):
With multiple choice answers.

Nick (35:59):
Just

Matt (36:00):
Just please follow the police procedure.

Nick (36:03):
Did you murder the victim? Yes or no? Check yes or no.

Matt (36:09):
You can hand this to the person. They can fill it out
themselves. You don't even needto read it.

Nick (36:15):
I made it for you.

Matt (36:17):
Just read the answers after that. If yes, please
explain in 2 to 3 sentences.

Nick (36:26):
Yes. Please explain. But Natalie comes in and she's like,
she starts to talk, and Reesegoes, don't tell me it's
accidental. And Natalie's like, well, I mean, yeah. He fell he
fell out of the window.
It's kinda accidental. And Reeseis like, no. Fucking no. Which,
actually, Reese doesn't get todecide that. Natalie gets to
decide that.
The police actually don't haveshouldn't have any jurisdiction

(36:48):
over what the crime is ruled as.

Matt (36:51):
Right.

Nick (36:51):
She could put indetermined. Like, I can't
decide if it's accidental or ifit's clearly, like, homicide. I
can put

Matt (36:58):
I I don't know. Impaled.

Nick (37:00):
I mean, she can put that's manner of death. But cause of
death, is it or, like, no. Causeof death would be impaled.
Manner would be, like, homicideor, you know

Matt (37:12):
Or accident.

Nick (37:13):
Accidental or undetermined. Yeah. Yeah. Or
natural, whatever. So there it'slike the, did he get killed?
Can I confirm he got killeddeliberately? Like, if he got
shot, that's clearly he didn'tfall on the bullets, except for
the lady that did no. I'm justkidding. So Reese is like, okay.
Well, you guys need to knowsomething about me.

(37:36):
Not only am I unable to use thewater cooler.

Matt (37:41):
Vendetta. Can't leave.

Nick (37:44):
But I also am confused about why people kill people.
Those 2 things.

Matt (37:52):
I cannot relate to it. It's inconceivable to me.

Nick (37:55):
The third thing is I don't like it when people get away
with murder on my watch. Sowe're gonna look at this again
and we're gonna pretend it's ahomicide and that we're gonna
investigate it like homicidecops.

Matt (38:13):
Treat this like a hypothetical situation. This was
a homicide.

Nick (38:19):
Yeah.

Matt (38:19):
Now approach the crime with that from that perspective

Nick (38:24):
Yeah.

Matt (38:25):
And explain to me how it's a homicide.

Nick (38:29):
Yeah. Find me something. He's like, these people are
gonna get away because I havenothing. I need you to act like
cops and find some evidence. Andthey're like, fine.
He goes, you know what? Sleep onit. Like, go home. Try tomorrow.

Matt (38:45):
And they can't even do that.

Nick (38:47):
Can't even go go home.

Matt (38:49):
They can't trucking. No. Because nobody sleeps.

Nick (38:53):
Right.

Matt (38:53):
On account of the ghost.

Nick (38:54):
On account of the ghost. Yeah. Well, Nick actually goes
back to the house. He doesn't gohome. He goes back to the house,
and he sees the blonde ladyagain.
And he's like, Alyssa? My wife? And she's like, you said we'd be
together forever. And she goes, listen, just say you remember

(39:19):
me. Like, do you remember me?
We were together for, like, 2weeks. Do you remember me? And
he's really looking at her likeblonde.

Matt (39:27):
Like 750 years ago.

Nick (39:29):
Cape? Okay. Well, there's been a couple of blondes. I
don't know. This one, like, Ithink I think I it started with
an a and a, ah, Alyssa.
Yes. My wife. Yeah. No. Iremember you.
So he goes into a flashback.

Matt (39:41):
He's like, ah, yes. The big booty shorts.

Nick (39:45):
This this flashback is so much. 1st, there's columns, and
there's, like, ivy rapture onthe columns, and there's guests,
which I guess they're all herfamily. I don't know. There's
wedding guests. And for somereason, they're they're is there
a cross?
I didn't even look. I don'tthink they're really in a
church. That's a

Matt (40:05):
good point.

Nick (40:05):
But there's an officiant, so they're clearly getting
actually married. So he's, like, getting married to this woman.
And she has on this reallypretty kind of sparkly white
dress, and then she has thiscape, this fur lined cape on,
and then he has on some straightShakespeare neck rough, doublet,

(40:26):
puffy pants, tights, shoes, theworks. It I lose it every time.
I know this is supposed to bereally dramatic, and this is
supposed to be like, oh, no.
He's getting married to thiswoman because he really loves
her, and he's about toaccidentally kill her. But also,
puffy pants. Also puffy pants. And, of course, LaCroix is
there. And LaCroix holds up thisflower and smells this flower.

(40:51):
And it's not a tiny white rose, like, from om like, from be my
Valentine. But headcanon for meis he's remembering Fleur in
this moment, and he picks up alittle white rose to smell it.
Like, ah, I could have had this.I could have had love too, and
Nick fucked it up.

Matt (41:12):
So the I was looking up clothing

Nick (41:16):
Oh, okay.

Matt (41:16):
History stuff. Uh-huh. The the neck ruffle

Nick (41:20):
Uh-huh.

Matt (41:21):
Is just called a ruff.

Nick (41:23):
Yeah.

Matt (41:24):
But it wasn't like a a fashion item until the 1600.

Nick (41:32):
Okay. So he's 400? He's tried to turn people before

Matt (41:36):
this. Right. So I'm thinking this would have
happened in, like, the 1300Yeah. Maybe 1400 if we're really
stretching out his, like, vampire adolescent period.

Nick (41:48):
Well, he has a similar roughen in the episode where
when he's getting a divorce fromJennette. Remember the medieval
episode where he's, like, beentogether 80 years? And he's got
the rough on.

Matt (42:00):
Right. But they could have been that could have been, like,
a formal marriage

Nick (42:06):
Well, it's no. I think from much later. I'm just
wondering about the overlap ifwe're using the because the
rough wasn't popular for verylong. I mean, it was popular for
a while, but it wasn't popularfor, like it's not like a tie or
like a neckerchief where aneckerchief could be anywhere in
a certain period.

Matt (42:23):
Okay. The according to Wikipedia, let's see, 15
sixties, people wore

Nick (42:32):
it. Yeah. Shakespeare has one on. So that that tracks.

Matt (42:36):
So so it would have been after the mid 1500?

Nick (42:41):
Yeah. It's just interesting. It's interesting. I
don't know why they chose thistime period. I don't know why
they chose this outfit.
I don't really I mean, it's agift. It's a gift, and I'm just
thankful for the gift we weregiven.

Matt (42:55):
Alright, Nick. Alright, Gar. This is gonna be a
flashback to your first love. And you need to we're gonna have
a flashback where, like, you seethe scene where Nick and this
woman get married. Yeah.
So you're having, like, a formalmarriage. She's a mortal woman.

(43:16):
She doesn't know you're avampire, whatever, blah blah
blah. So we need we need fancyclothes, And Gary's like, I have
just the thing.

Nick (43:27):
Did he show up in that outfit?

Matt (43:29):
I have something in my closet that would be perfect. I
was just in a play where theymade me this really nice outfit.
Yeah. And I love the the They're

Nick (43:41):
so roomy.

Matt (43:44):
Breathe. That's how he shows up in this.

Nick (43:48):
And they're like

Matt (43:49):
They're like, the costume designer's like, that's that's
not

Nick (43:53):
That's fine.

Matt (43:54):
The right time period. But it is extremely well made. So go
with it. You know, actuallyexcited. I don't have to make an
outfit.
Sure.

Nick (44:08):
There you can find a timeline of all of his
flashbacks online where somebodywent and figured out dates.
Mhmm. And and, surprisingly, there are there's no
contradictions. Like, there's no2 he's not into place that was.
And I feel like somebodysomewhere had a spreadsheet the
whole time, and they were like,no.
No. Wait, guys. We gotta movethis a little bit because he's

(44:30):
actually in Russia at this timeor he's over here. And for as

Matt (44:38):
inconsistent It was Nigel.

Nick (44:40):
Irreverent as they were for consistency, the fact that
the flashbacks actually don't

Matt (44:48):
contradict each other.

Nick (44:49):
Each other is a fucking miracle. And you know what?
Sometimes you just have to saythank you and not look that gift
horse in the mouth, and we'regonna do that with these puffy
pants and this ruff and all ofthat. And back to my statement
about Lacroix is, we are asconsistent as we are, we
actually forgot that Lacroix issworn to vendetta. Like, he's

(45:11):
sworn to kill every woman thatNick ever loves.
But that's okay because I

Matt (45:16):
Well, was this before or after Floor?

Nick (45:20):
Well, no. His his when his human family is still alive,
that would be Oh, yeah.

Matt (45:26):
Yeah. I guess this would have to be

Nick (45:27):
That'd be the 1200.

Matt (45:29):
This could technically be before. But Did he invent the
rough? Did.

Nick (45:34):
Is he a fashion icon? Did he get his head stuck in it and
he couldn't get it out? He waslike, well, here we are. I'm
just gonna wear this to mywedding. I don't know.
We're we're not I don't wanna Idon't wanna dwell anymore on
this. The it's just we forgotabout the whole Laplace being
sworn to kill everyone he lovedthing, Kind of, maybe. I don't
know. Maybe he figured Nick wasgonna do it, or he would just
wait Although we don'tcontradict that.

Matt (45:56):
No. We just at towards the end, we get LaCroix like tsk,
tsk, tsk. Yeah. You should havebeen more careful. And I could
totally see

Nick (46:07):
smells of death.

Matt (46:07):
Lacroix sneaking in and, like, finishing her off just to
teach Nick a lesson.

Nick (46:14):
Yeah. I mean, he could've I don't know. He's sniffing this
little rose to me that he'sremembering floor. This is this
is canon, and I'm leaving ithere. So then Alyssa disappears
into the darkness in thepresent, and Nick comes out and
he's like, oh, wow.
I knew I knew vampires are real, but ghosts being real, that's
pretty fucking sweet. And soluckily, he's stem he's, like,

(46:40):
staggers. God, I couldn't thinkof the word staggers. I was
like, stutters. No.
Stutters. No. He staggers alittle bit, and he grabs the,
like, post at the end of thewalkway. And when he looks down
in the rocks, there's a metal,like a star metal.

Matt (47:00):
I looked up the flashback timeline. Okay. And this says,
dead of night, Nick marriesAlyssa von Linz.

Nick (47:10):
Okay.

Matt (47:12):
Date, 15/28. Okay. See? We're right. So it fits.
Yep. And then 3 years later is,young oh, Javier's foot fixed.

Nick (47:26):
Okay. This is important news, and it can't wait till the
end. Ben Bass is now a licensedpsychotherapist.

Matt (47:33):
He retired from acting.

Nick (47:34):
No. He's still doing some acting.

Matt (47:36):
Oh, he still does acting.

Nick (47:37):
Yeah. But he's also a licensed psychotherapist. But,
like, the the woo woo kindalike.

Matt (47:44):
Oh, he really is?

Nick (47:45):
Yes. Woo woo is not a great word, but it feels like
the appropriate word. Like, ifyou look it up and then you look
at his, you look at hiscredentials, his credentials are
like I understand those wordsseparately, but when you put
them together in that string ofof words that I don't know what
you're trying to say to me, it'slike he's, like, certified in

(48:06):
brain spotting and, like,somatic holistic

Matt (48:10):
best counseling dot com. Yes. Yes. Integrated counseling
and somatic therapy.

Nick (48:17):
Yes. So if you find yourself, in need of some brain
spotting, Javier's got you.Okay? Ben Bass can go ahead and
help you.

Matt (48:29):
Diploma in transpersonal psychotherapeutic counseling.
See.

Nick (48:35):
It's not that's not I mean, I don't know. If that's
not woo woo, I don't know. MaybeI just don't I I don't I I am an
advocate for therapy, but, like, the type of therapist that has
gone to college for therapy, like, has a 4 to an additional
year degree. Anyway, theepisode, Matthew, the episode.

(48:56):
He finds this star, and helearned nothing from the last
episode because he just picksthis evidence up barehanded.
And he, like, looks at it withhis fingers. He rubs his fingers
on it a little bit, then he,like, flips it into his palm and
then sticks it in his pocket. So, I mean, clearly, he's he's
respecting this evidence.

Matt (49:16):
Yeah. He's definitely not contaminating

Nick (49:18):
Yeah. No. He's fine. He doesn't have fingerprints. It's
fine.
So then And

Matt (49:22):
there's no blood in his body. That's No human blood
anyway.

Nick (49:25):
Yeah. They're gonna be like, why is there cow blood on
this? I don't know. So TracyTracy's trying to sleep. But in
fact, she's having a dream aboutwalking along the railroad
tracks with her friend, with herwith sled, but, like, there's no
snow.
What were they doing with thissled? I don't know. And her
friend's sled gets stuck in therailroad tracks.

Matt (49:45):
She She tries to unsticker the sled.

Nick (49:47):
Runs stickers.

Matt (49:47):
And her sweater gets stuck.

Nick (49:49):
Sweater gets stuck. And Tracy's like, come on, Susan.
And Susan's like, help me. I'mstuck. And then she turns and,
like, there's a train coming,but it's coming, like,
immediately.
Like, they didn't hear itcoming. And she just turns and
she's like, oh my god. It'salready here. And it, like, hits
her. And Tracy's like, this wasall my fault.
And like, kind of, because yourfriend was stuck and you were

(50:11):
just standing there like,

Matt (50:12):
I have walked along railroad tracks. Yeah. And you
can hear you can feel it Yeah.Far away.

Nick (50:22):
Well, we went to school or we went to college, there was a
railroad track that wentdirectly through the middle of
school of college. And one time

Matt (50:28):
right on the edge of the campus. Yeah.

Nick (50:30):
One time we were standing there. I think we may have put a
penny on the tracks orsomething. So we were waiting to
pick up our penny, and, a trainwent by and we didn't notice. I
was just like, why was I justshouting? Oh, because the train
went by.
Like, you get used to the sound. But also, you're running you're
walking on the tracks. You'realert for trains.

Matt (50:45):
Right.

Nick (50:46):
I don't know. Whatever. It's kind of like Tracy's
magically disappearing uncle andthe fact that her dad only
interferes when we need toadvance the plot. And I think in
a couple of episodes, herparents are getting a divorce
for 1 single episode, and thenthey're not getting a divorce
anymore. So, like, it's fine.
It doesn't matter. Nothingmatters. The the rules are made

(51:08):
up and the plot doesn't matter. So they go to see the partner
because Reese yelled at them.Like, he made them feel bad.
So they're they're going toactually talk to people. So they
go see, Gafford Weintraub'spartner, Skalley. And they're
like, don't you care that yourpartner died? And he's like,
yeah. Sure.
I care. Now I have twice thework. And they're like, wow. You

(51:29):
don't feel you don't seem verysympathetic. And he's like, he
didn't have any friends.
Weintraub was an asshole. Youdidn't meet him because he was
all dead already by the time yougot to him, but trust me, nobody
misses him. He had mostlyenemies. And they're like, okay.
Well, why was he planning to buythis?
Did you know what his planswere? And he's like, actually,
we didn't have any much overlapby the time he died because we

(51:50):
weren't really getting along. The last few months. Yeah. And
they're like, okay.
Well, we're gonna have to askyou to stick around in case we
have more questions for you. Andhe's like, sorry. I'm going to
Calgary tomorrow. And they'relike, yeah. Sounds like you're
gonna have to change your plans.
And Tracy gets this little smirklike, sticking it to the rich
person.

Matt (52:06):
So the least realistic part about this to me

Nick (52:09):
Yeah.

Matt (52:10):
Is he implies that they each do half of the work, But
anyone who's worked togetherwith someone else knows that one
person does most of the work.Yeah. May maybe they split They
could've split the count. Onmaybe they they split on, like,
types of tasks Yeah. So that, like, he does most of the, like,

(52:34):
closing work, whereas Gifford,Weintraub does more of the,
like, speculation, like, goingout and investigating properties
and, like, do the talking topeople part Yeah.
The going out into the world andtalking to people.

Nick (52:49):
And I'm a people person.

Matt (52:51):
Does the the paperwork side.

Nick (52:53):
I feel like maybe that was a mistake because Weintraub
didn't seem very, people y.

Matt (52:59):
No. No. No. But they don't look super successful either.

Nick (53:04):
Yeah. Well, they leave and

Matt (53:05):
But I oh, I guess it is the middle of the night.

Nick (53:07):
Yeah.

Matt (53:07):
So we don't really know what the workplace is doing.

Nick (53:10):
Working in the middle of the night, so he must be busy.

Matt (53:13):
Which means he's bad at his job if he has to work 16
hour days.

Nick (53:19):
Well, maybe he works from, like

Matt (53:20):
He's bad at time.

Nick (53:21):
2 o'clock in the afternoon to 2 AM, and then he goes to bed
and he gets back out of mydoesn't matter. So we go back to
the precinct. The plot's made upand the rules don't matter. So
we go back to the precinct and,Reese is like, oh, the pin was
military, and it's covered inWeintraub's blood. And Nick is
like, yay.
I did a thing. And I have toimagine I

Matt (53:41):
did police work.

Nick (53:42):
Yeah. I was useful. And I have to feel like he came back
and he pulled it out of hispocket and he was like, and
showed it to Reese. And Reesewas like

Matt (53:49):
Reese, look. I did the police work.

Nick (53:51):
Is that evidence?

Matt (53:53):
Oh. I have evidence. Woah. And it actually had his blood on
it. I'm so proud.
And I talked to the ghost too.

Nick (54:00):
Reese, slap. No. Bad. I'm sorry.

Matt (54:06):
Bad boy. Now go to your desk.

Nick (54:09):
Think about what you said. So Tracy confides that she saw a
ghost at Castle House, confidesit to Nick. She's like, Nick, I
have to tell you something. Isaw a ghost at Castle House. And
Nick is like, okay.
Like, he doesn't laugh like shewas expecting him to. Nick, what
if I told you I saw a ghost atCastle House?

Wife (54:30):
The little girl in the car.

Nick (54:33):
I thought you'd laugh. And she tells him, like, I saw a
friend get killed by a trainwhen I was little, and I blamed
myself. And her name was SusanFeldman. And Nick is like, okay.
I mean, that's horrific.
Tracy just said she watched herfriend get run over by a train.

Matt (54:52):
Which is gruesome.

Nick (54:53):
Oh, well, okay. Sure. That's

Matt (54:58):
crazy. Did you go to therapy

Nick (55:00):
about that? Like, oh, I know a therapist.

Matt (55:05):
You know a therapist. Tracy knows a therapist. So this
whole episode, I was waiting forTracy to go see Vashon Oh. To
have a candid supernaturaldiscussion. And I really wanted
Vashon's take on ghosts, but Ididn't get it.

(55:26):
No. No. I bet Ben Bass believesin ghosts.

Nick (55:33):
We can't make those kinds of assumptions about people, but
given his credentials on hiswebsite

Matt (55:38):
Given his credentials.

Nick (55:39):
Feel like that's probably a good guess. Yeah. So we go
back to Natalie, and Nataliedrops a tray and we, like, pan
up because her grandma is back, and she's like, not that I shall
lie. And Natalie says, I knowyou're just a figment of my
imagination, but don't sneak upon me like that. And her
grandma's like, sorry.

(56:01):
And Natalie goes, you're dead. Why are you here? And her
grandma's like, I don't know. Isaw you.

Matt (56:09):
I saw you. I just followed you. Say hello.

Nick (56:11):
I just followed you home. Natasha. And then Nick and Tracy
walk in, and they're like,Natalie, who are you talking to?
And she's like, oh my god. She,like, falls over on the table,
and they're, like, giving her aglass of water.
And they've turned the lights onbecause apparently, she only

(56:32):
works in the dark. Maybethere's, like, a budgeting
shortage. She has to turn thelights off more often. But
Natalie, Natalie's like, I don'tknow. Is it hallucination?
Is it hallucinogenics? Am Ilosing my mind? And Tracy's
like, actually, it's happeningto me too. And they both look
over at Nick, and Nick's like, okay. I mean, I saw something.
Sure. And

Matt (56:52):
I'm not going to explain anything, though. He's like,
yeah. I saw someone. A woman.

Nick (56:56):
Yeah. There you go. He doesn't say he just goes, I saw
somebody. He might say a woman.

Matt (57:00):
I think he says a woman.

Nick (57:02):
Yeah. Everybody else is like, I saw my grandma. She said
this. And Tracy's like, I saw myfriend who got run over by a
train 5 feet in front of me whenI was a child. They all look at
Tracy, like, what the fuck?

Matt (57:12):
Sorry. And Nick's like, I saw a lady.

Nick (57:15):
Yeah. Yeah. And Natalie's like, well, I'm done with this
conversation. And Nick's like, well, good. Because we actually
do need to focus on peoplebecause ghosts didn't kill these
guys.
Ghosts didn't kill Weintraub. And, like, fair call, Nick.
Thank you for actuallyredirecting everybody to, like,
yeah. Shit's weird, and it'sreally interesting. And, like,
I'm having fun chasing thisrabbit hole with everybody else,

(57:35):
but also we kind of have a joband Reese is noticing that we
don't do it.
So we need to, like, get onthis. So Tracy is, like, yeah. I
hear you. But Natalie, did youtalk to your grandma? Were you
honest with her?
And Natalie's like, well, no.Not really. I mean, she's a
figment of my imagination. Itdidn't really occur to me, to be

(57:56):
honest with her. And Tracy'slike, that means she's going to
be back.
Okay. And then we got to LaCroixpodcasting. He's like,

Matt (58:03):
go outside of us. So right before this scene came on

Nick (58:07):
Yeah.

Matt (58:08):
I told Rachel that my head canon up to this point is that
all of the hallucinations thateveryone is having or I guess
not hallucinations. Everybodybelieves they're sand

Nick (58:22):
ghosts. Supernatural experiences.

Matt (58:24):
These supernatural experiences that everyone is
happening is really just Lacroixsneaking around, hypnotizing
everybody, convincing them thatthey had an experience with a
ghost. Yeah. And then removingthe memory of him being there
telling them that. And all ofthis is just to fuck with Nick.

Nick (58:45):
Yeah. Oh, no. This is one giant troll.

Matt (58:47):
I can see that. Which would totally work. Yep. And
part of my reasoning for that isafter we explain if the house is
a reverse medium and the ghostsfind you, I would have expected
Nick to walk into that houseand, like, not have any room to
walk around

Nick (59:05):
Right.

Matt (59:06):
Because the house was so crowded. But we didn't get any
of that.

Nick (59:10):
Not till later.

Matt (59:11):
Not to not till later.

Nick (59:12):
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's a better episode it's Luvak, but
if at the end, he's like, psychy'all.

Matt (59:21):
Got you. Got you. I even hired a whole bunch of extras
with spotlights. He put togethera team.

Nick (59:28):
He put together a team. He installed smoke machines. What
else is he doing? The ravenpractically runs itself. He's
got so much time.
He set up a recording booth inthe back.

Matt (59:39):
And this could be a just playing the long game or just a
Hail Mary of he needs to soaccusing Nick or trying to frame
Nick for murder Yeah. To getNick to leave his human life and
return to Lacroix

Nick (59:57):
Yeah.

Matt (59:57):
That didn't work. Right. It it was a little too heavy
handed, and, and Nick could seethe manipulation, very
straightforwardly.

Nick (01:00:09):
Right. It was easily solved. You just find the actual
murderer.

Matt (01:00:13):
Yeah. Yeah. So Maeve then Lacroix is like, okay. I need a
little more subtle gambit tobring my Nicholas back to me.
Okay?
What if I get, like, him and hispartner and, like, his closest
human connections to all thinkhe's crazy, get him fired from

(01:00:38):
his job for believing in ghostswithout, like, hypnotizing
anybody and telling themdirectly to distance themselves
from Nick or fire him orwhatever.

Nick (01:00:53):
Yeah.

Matt (01:00:53):
It's all just at the edges introducing friction into Nick's
life. And maybe in a year or so,Nick's human life will fall
apart. Yeah. And Nick willreturn to Lacroix. That's
uncharacteristically subtle.
But yeah. Right. But all of hisall of his

Nick (01:01:17):
Lacroix likes to believe he's a scalpel, but he's a
hammer.

Matt (01:01:19):
Right. Yeah. All of his attempts up to this point have
failed. Right. So maybe,LaClue's back to the drawing
board.
Let's try something new.

Nick (01:01:28):
Ghosts. And

Matt (01:01:30):
ghosts.

Nick (01:01:30):
Fake ghosts. That's it. That's where we're gonna go in.

Matt (01:01:33):
I'm just gonna fuck with people in a completely different
way

Nick (01:01:36):
That's fair.

Matt (01:01:37):
And make them think they're all crazy or having
legit supernatural experiences. So okay. So Yeah. I I still have
a little bit of head canon forthis whole thing is just Lacroix
messing with Nick.

Nick (01:01:53):
I mean, sure. And to underscore that, he makes a
podcast about

Matt (01:01:57):
it. Yeah.

Nick (01:01:58):
And he's like, ghosts are from inside of us. Each ill
considered thing we've done is aghost that haunts us if we let
it.

Wife (01:02:08):
A ghost is an hallucination of some famous
regret. No more. Ghosts aremistakes that we have made. They
come not from beyond the pale, but rise up from our gravest
doubts about ourselves. Each illconsidered thing that it's on

(01:02:31):
point.
How does Laquan know

Nick (01:02:38):
so much? Finis is on point. So inspiring.

Matt (01:02:41):
How does Laquan know so much about how Nick and his
friends, Nick and friends, areinteracting with company. These
ghosts

Nick (01:02:49):
If he's not actually doing it?

Matt (01:02:50):
If he's not behind it. Yeah. It's too succinct a
summary of the whole reversemedium thing.

Nick (01:02:57):
Right. I know. You got a point. You're wrong, and we
don't ever come back to it, butyou got a point. So there's and
then we go into a flashback Gointo a flashback, and it's Nick
with his new wife.
She's like, are you happy, mylord Nicholas? And he's like,
yeah. Because we're gonna betogether forever. Right? And

(01:03:20):
she's like, yeah.
We're gonna be together forever. We're gonna be together forever.
Right? And he's like, yep.Eternity.
Whatever you say, baby, becausethey're making out. So whatever.
We're into this. And he's like, okay. So when you say forever,
you, like, mean forever.
Right? Because, like, that'sactually a thing. Like, I could
make you immortal. And she'slike, what?

Matt (01:03:43):
She goes along with this

Nick (01:03:44):
I mean, she's been making out for 6 hours. She doesn't
have a thought left in herbrain. The proximity was bad
enough, but then he's literallybeen, like, depriving her of
moisture for the last 45minutes. She's dehydrated. She
can't think straight.
And he's like, okay. So I'mimmortal, and I can make you
immortal, and it's gonna be mygift to you. Okay? And so he,

(01:04:07):
like, rolls over, and he has theeyes and the fangs. Yeah.
Katharine Disher said she usedto feel left out when they'd all
start filming the flashbacks. She's not she's only in stranger
than fiction. She's not in anyof the flashbacks. And she said
until they had to stop to put inthe teeth and the eyes, and then
she was like, nah. Never mind.
I don't feel left out. Becauseit's not actually, like, 2 clip

(01:04:29):
on fangs. It's like a wholeflipper thing. It's like a, this
whole the teeth are actually onthis, like, root. They're
connected.

Matt (01:04:37):
Okay.

Nick (01:04:38):
And they're, like, pushed up against the roof of their
mouths. Mhmm. Some you know, like, modern fangs, if I were to
buy a pair of fangs, you know, they just fit over the tooth.
That's not what they do here. They're like a whole mouthpiece.

Matt (01:04:50):
Okay.

Nick (01:04:51):
That he puts in. Plus the contacts were painful because
Yeah. They're they're gaspermeable. They're not plastic.
And so he rolls over and he'slike, do you trust me?
And she looks at him and she'slike, okay. Alright. I am
married. It is 15:30. I've gotabout 10 years left anyway, and

(01:05:11):
I can't get divorced becausedivorce isn't a thing.
And, I mean, I'm in it. So sure.Yeah, baby. Whatever you say.
And he's she says, of course, mylord, with all my heart.
And then he's like, then closeyour eyes and give yourself to
me. And he, like, bites her. Then we come back to the
present, and the claw is like, regret is for the weak. Kill it

(01:05:34):
before it bleeds you dry. Andthen Tracy goes click and turns
out the radio.
She goes, sorry. That guy getsunder my skin. And then Tracy's
like, so, Nick, what do youthink Susan wants? Like, what
does Susan want from me? AndNick goes, why not ask?
She never does ask. We neverfind out what Susan wants, but,

Matt (01:05:57):
you know, she could have asked. We never get Tracy's
closure.

Nick (01:06:01):
Yeah.

Matt (01:06:01):
Well, no. Susan wanted

Nick (01:06:03):
Tracy to also die. I think that's

Matt (01:06:05):
why. That's implied. Yeah. But only because

Nick (01:06:08):
No. We don't get closure.

Matt (01:06:09):
Tracy has does Tracy continue to be haunted by Susan
for the rest of her life?

Nick (01:06:17):
Maybe. Maybe. We'll find out.

Matt (01:06:21):
So See if I can find a situation in the upcoming
episodes where we can throw in,oh, maybe that's

Nick (01:06:27):
Susan distracting her. Yeah. Well, they're gonna tear
down the building. And she's

Matt (01:06:30):
learned to just ignore Susan.

Nick (01:06:33):
She's like, don't why is that chair floating? What's that
rotten egg smell? Nothing. Don'task. So Weintraub's partner
calls them on their car phoneand says someone is tailing him
just like they tailed mypartner.
And Nick is like, okay. Who isit? And he goes, it's someone
dead. And then they ask noclarifying questions. They're

(01:06:55):
like, cool.
We're on the way. Not, okay. What's her name?

Matt (01:06:57):
Well, because he grabs his gun and runs.

Nick (01:06:59):
Oh, yeah. He hangs up.

Matt (01:07:00):
The phone.

Nick (01:07:01):
Yeah. He doesn't it's the yield. I'll tell you when you
get here. And then, of course,by the time they get there, he's
already turned

Matt (01:07:07):
It's too late.

Nick (01:07:08):
And Nick says, when they get there, he's like, oh,
something's not right. I'll goaround.

Matt (01:07:16):
They've matured to the point in their relationship,
their partnership.

Nick (01:07:19):
I think this is the second time we've used it.

Matt (01:07:22):
He almost used the phrase, I'll go around back. I think he
he said something where he usedthe word around in it. Yeah. But
he didn't say it like, I'll goaround. This time, he says, I'll
go around back.

Nick (01:07:36):
Yeah. You go in the front. So he goes around, and Tracy
turns around because she hearssomething. Well, she hears
something behind her. And thenwe actually see a shadow go up
the side of the building, and wehear whoosh because he runs,
like, 5 feet off to the left.
Wides up. And then we see glassbreaking, which, oh my god, this
is how he gets into buildings. We never cover that. There's

(01:07:57):
just broken windows all overToronto. And everyone just
blames the Toronto Mothman.
They're like, goddamn it.Mothman strikes me.

Matt (01:08:05):
Even tries to open the well, occasionally, he must try
to open the window. Yeah. Maybemaybe it's when he lands on a
balcony, and there's, like, awindow. Yeah. Maybe maybe it's
when he lands on a balcony andthere's, like, a balcony door.

Nick (01:08:13):
He can give it a jingle.

Matt (01:08:14):
Or there's a window that's already open

Nick (01:08:16):
Yeah.

Matt (01:08:16):
He doesn't break in.

Nick (01:08:17):
Right. Well You know what? In Toronto, everybody leaves one
window unlocked at all timesbecause that way, the Toronto
Mothman doesn't break yourwindows. If you lock them all,
he's gonna break 1.

Matt (01:08:28):
Coming up with a whole urban mythology.

Nick (01:08:30):
Yeah. This is part of the Toronto cryptid ledge legend.
Okay? So that's, anyway, that'show he gets through windows when
you don't leave one unlocked. Sobe warned.
You must leave a gift, the giftof an unlocked bathroom window.

Matt (01:08:44):
This is the the forever night extended universe

Nick (01:08:47):
Yeah. In urban mythology. So Tracy sees Susan behind her
and gets distracted, and someoneslips out the door. Like, behind
her, someone's walking out thedoor as she's like, Susan?
Susan?
And Matt goes, oh my god. It'sSarah. And I was like, Susan.
See, that's part of yourproblem. Tracy doesn't remember.

(01:09:08):
This started with an s. It was sSarah, Susan. Like, I mean, I
get that Tracy needed a ghost, but could we have I mean, it
could have been her uncle. Whynot bring her uncle back? Why
didn't

Matt (01:09:21):
she Her uncle who died of her death. Why didn't you get me
a heart?

Nick (01:09:26):
Why did why did you make up look at the tragic backstory
that we're building for Tracy. This is terrible. And Susan
almost lures her out into theroad and then disappears. And
meanwhile, Nick finds the guy'sdead body, the Scally's dead bar
body, and he's sitting in achair. And there's no obvious
signs of foul play.
He's just sitting in this chair. And so we come back, and Reese

(01:09:48):
is like, don't say it. Nataliegoes, I think it was an
accidental death. And Reese islike, mother fucker.

Matt (01:09:54):
It was a heart attack.

Nick (01:09:56):
Yeah. Natalie says, I mean, he died of a massive heart
attack, and Reese says he wastoo young for a heart attack.
I'm sorry, Reese.

Matt (01:10:04):
Excuse me, Reese. Who's who is actually a medical doctor
here

Nick (01:10:08):
Yeah.

Matt (01:10:09):
At the table Yeah. Like, within 3 feet of you.

Nick (01:10:11):
I mean, Reese, I know you put Nick and Tracy on an
improvement plan, but do leaveNatalie out of it. Okay? She's
just doing her fucking job.

Matt (01:10:18):
Natalie's great at her job.

Nick (01:10:19):
Yeah. Because he's like, did you check his medical
records? And she's like, yeah. And there's nothing I do my job.
I can tell what animal a bloodcomes from from the smell,
Reese.

Matt (01:10:38):
Give me 5 minutes in the morgue, and I can identify the
host species.

Nick (01:10:45):
I, it was implied last episode. I could find the cure
for HIV if I just had the time.So I need you to I just saved an
entire race. I just saved anentire fucking race. Okay.

Matt (01:10:56):
In my spare time.

Nick (01:10:57):
In my spare time. And Natalie literally goes, I don't
know. He died of a heart attack, but so much weird shit has been
happening. If you said he diedof fear, I'd believe it. And
Reese is like, these people hadreal enemies.
They were killed by a realperson. Please stop chasing

(01:11:17):
ghosts. And Nick goes, wishthey'd stop chasing us.

Wife (01:11:21):
Did he know who was following him? It was a dead
someone, he said. These guyshave real flesh and blood
enemies. Stop chasing ghosts, will? I wish they'd stop chasing
us.

Matt (01:11:34):
You're not helping me. You you say that under your breath
in your partner's ear.

Nick (01:11:43):
And I

Matt (01:11:43):
wonder in front of your captain.

Nick (01:11:45):
I wonder if there was a gap in filming here, because his
hair is way longer in thisepisode than it is in previous
episodes, and he stops wearinganything but these, like, black
outfits. His black trench coat, black shirt, black pants, which
I'm not mad at. But also, wewent from, like, barely trim

(01:12:05):
haircut to, like, the exact samehairstyle he had in, grand
magic, which is, like, wild andwooly, but slightly brushed
back.

Wife (01:12:14):
Mhmm.

Nick (01:12:15):
But Reese pops out. He's like, well, the one piece of
police work you did where youfound this medal,
congratulations. I followed upon it for you, and it is a US
Army service star from 20 yearsago. That's what that medal was.
And Nick is like, yes.
I did a thing. And he says hemust have grabbed it from his
attacker in the struggle. Sowhen whatever was happening in

(01:12:36):
the struggle, grabbed the pinand jumped off, fell off the
roof with it. And so Tracy hasfigured out that Weintraub and
Scally were frat brothers incollege. And Nick is like, oh,
maybe the ghost had it in forboth of them, like an old debt.
Why are we assuming it's justthe fact that we only run with

(01:12:57):
the ghost angle in this entireepisode, and yet somehow we
still succeed?

Matt (01:13:01):
Well, they they trace the connection between 2 victims.

Nick (01:13:06):
Yeah. I mean, they're kind yeah. It's fine. It's fine. It's
fine.
So Natalie is back in themorgue, and she's taking more
notes in the dark again. Andshe's like, grandma? No. Okay.
No.
That's fine. And then all of asudden, her grandma, like, grabs
her shoulders. So Natalie twistsaround, and her grandma goes,
that that nice boy, Nick, helikes you. I can tell.

Grandma (01:13:32):
That nice boy, Nick, he likes you. I can tell. He seems
like a very down to earth youngfellow.

Nick (01:13:43):
He seems like a very

Matt (01:13:45):
Don't rub it in, grandma.

Nick (01:13:47):
Even her grandma from beyond the grave is like, why is
he not that into you? And she'slike, but seriously though, why
did you not come visit me when Iwas in the hospital? And
Natalie's like, like, well, since you made the crack about
why does Nick not like mebetter, I didn't come to the
hospital because you hit me.Because when you were raising

(01:14:09):
me, you were not a nice person. And the grandma's like, yes.
I recognize now that that wasnot a great approach, and I
apologize. I apologize. AndNatalie's like, thank you. I
accept your apology.

Matt (01:14:27):
Yeah. Like, I was I was dealing with my own trauma at
the time, and I'm sorry that Itook it out on you. Yeah. Yeah.
And Natalie probably recognizesthat.

Nick (01:14:36):
Natalie's like, okay. Thank you. Like, I just wanted
you to say you were sorry. That's all I ever wanted. And
the grandma's like, cool.
I'm happy now. I can rest.She's, actually, she's like, I
am happy now. I can rest. Andshe, like, does the picture.

Matt (01:14:50):
It just starts slowly backing you up.

Nick (01:14:53):
Natalie's like, wait. Wait, grandma. Where are you?
Where are you? And she's like

Matt (01:14:57):
I'm right here, Natalie.

Nick (01:14:58):
And she goes, I am sleeping. Natasha in a beautiful
dream. And then we get thisreally cool scene.

Matt (01:15:12):
We need a smoke machine.

Nick (01:15:14):
No one could see it. We just need it in here to set the
Yeah. Set the scene. If werecorded it for YouTube, we
could have it, and it would belike, oh, the Halloween episode
in February. I really love thisscene that follows because
she's, like, turning to look ather grandma, and the camera pans
around her, and Nick is standingin the far background in the

(01:15:34):
shadow.
It says he's wearing all black. He's kind of, like, obscured in
the back, and he's like,Natalie? Like, are you okay? And
she turns around, and she'slike, oh my god. I just got an
apology from my grandma.

Matt (01:15:47):
That's all I've been waiting for. Entire life for an
apology.

Nick (01:15:51):
Nick's like, do you know how long I've been waiting for
an apology from my father? 800years. And and I don't think
she's gonna come back because, Ifinally got a resolution, and he
actually steps forward. I likethis scene because we start out
with him in the dark, and it's avery, like, he's at his most
vampire y where he's, like, onalert. Did something happen?

(01:16:14):
What's going on? And then as hesoftens to, like, human Nick to
talk to her, he steps forwardinto the light. Mhmm.

Matt (01:16:21):
And

Nick (01:16:22):
he ends up stepping forward into the the one light
that's in the morgue right now.And so it ends up, like,
illuminating him. And I justlove that. I don't know.

Matt (01:16:30):
His face shifts from, like, gray to yellowish.

Nick (01:16:33):
Yeah. And Nick is like, okay. Well, like, I'm really
glad that that's you got thatfor me. And by the way, I found
the star, which I apparentlygave to Reese before I gave it
to you because I was brownnosing a little bit. Sorry.
I found the star. It's got bloodon it. We I think it was used I
think it was, like, on theperpetrator

Matt (01:16:51):
case here. Says it has Weintraub's blood on it.

Nick (01:16:55):
Right. Who

Matt (01:16:57):
tested the blood if it wasn't Natalie?

Nick (01:17:00):
Yes.

Matt (01:17:00):
Did they go around Natalie's back?

Nick (01:17:02):
And in fact,

Matt (01:17:02):
Reese different corner.

Nick (01:17:04):
In fact, Reese says, you are correct. It was Weintraub's
blood on it, which means Nickwas like

Matt (01:17:12):
Right. And and we've

Nick (01:17:13):
discussed Weintraub.

Matt (01:17:15):
Nick is probably the best at identifying blood samples.
Yeah. Like, oh, there's someblood on the wall. And then he
just, like, rubs it a little bitto scrape some of it loose and
then sniff. Oh, okay.
Oh, yeah. No. This isn't ourvictim's blood.

Nick (01:17:32):
Yeah. No. They gave it to forensics. Not Natalie, but,
like, the people that wouldactually test the blood. Uh-huh.
Yeah. Go figure.

Matt (01:17:41):
But why did he check it out of evidence and have it in
his hands to show Natalie?

Nick (01:17:48):
Well, it's in a baggy.

Matt (01:17:49):
No. When when he shows it to Natalie, it's not in a bag.

Nick (01:17:52):
It's in a baggy.

Matt (01:17:53):
It is?

Nick (01:17:54):
Yeah. Because Reese gives it back to him in a bag, and he
takes that bag and gives it toNatalie.

Matt (01:17:57):
Why does Reese give it back to him?

Nick (01:17:58):
I don't know, honey.

Matt (01:18:00):
That's that's not proper. It should go into an evidence
line. Doesn't matter. Into a boxsomewhere.

Nick (01:18:07):
Made up and the rules don't matter. So he gives it to
Natalie, and he's like, can youfigure out if there's a wound on
the body that matches this? Andshe's like, yeah. Yeah. No.
I can do that. He's like, butseriously, are you gonna be
okay? Like, are you gonna beokay if your grandma comes back?
And she's like, oh, she won't beback. And it goes, how do you
know that?
And she's like, I don't know. Ijust know. And then he gives her
a hug, which is really cute, especially after the grandma was

(01:18:29):
like, how come he doesn't likeyou more? But this does send him
into his flashback, and he'slaying next to his very
obviously dead wife. And he'slike, we're gonna be together
forever.
He's

Matt (01:18:42):
filling a cup up with blood.

Nick (01:18:43):
Yeah. And he gives her a cup of blood, and he pours it in
her mouth, and he, like, licksthe extra off from under her
mouth. And then he sits in thecup like, and he's like, yeah.
Go ahead. Sleep.
Sleep. Do what you need to do.I'll be back there.

Matt (01:18:57):
When you awake, we will be together for eternity.

Nick (01:19:00):
So he comes back up and he's like, Alyssa, wake up. It's
time to get up. And so he triesto shake her, and she does not
move. And then he's likeworried. Oh, shit.
And then Lacroix pops up becauseLacroix was waiting to watch. He
didn't get a show. Oh, yeah. Sohe's got to fuck with him
because he need to beentertained somehow. So he shows
up, and he's like, yeah.
Your love nest reeks of death. Idon't think she's gonna be okay.

(01:19:24):
She's been laying here for hoursnext to that fire. Sorry. But
there's a smell.
And he's like, you fucked up,dude. Because I told you life is
a fire, and it can be rebuiltfrom the smallest of Evers, but
not if you let them cool all theway. And Nick is like, oh, shit.
Can you can you fix it? Can youyou fix it for me?

Matt (01:19:46):
Fixes it.

Nick (01:19:47):
Look look how it fits it. Look how it fits it. Look how
it's like, sorry, man. I toldyou. She's dead.
Dead is dead. I can't undo dead. And he goes, yeah. It's fine.
Just subtle art.
It was your first try. You getbetter. You had better next
time. Did he really wait 300years to try to turn somebody
into a vampire? I guess.
Doesn't matter. Don't answerthat question. It's under
torture.

Matt (01:20:04):
I checked the flashback chronology. Yeah. And there were
no other flashbacks before thisthat mention or that I recall
him turning somebody.

Nick (01:20:15):
Okay. So Maybe.

Matt (01:20:17):
Yeah. I guess they they held up on that.

Nick (01:20:20):
Yeah. LaCroix is like, I told you don't take too much.
And then we go back to thecastle house because Nick goes
back to the castle house.Because if Natalie got some
resolution, he wants someresolution too. And this you
know what?
This always reminds me ofactually, this predates it, so
it would remind me of this.Anyway, there's an episode of
Buffy where Angel confronts theghosts of a bunch of people he's

(01:20:42):
killed in the past. You rememberthat one?

Matt (01:20:46):
Vaguely.

Nick (01:20:46):
It's actually the first evil. It's like the embodiment
of evil. So it's just taking theform of all of the people that
he's killed before. It ends upturning into Jenny Calendar most
of the time and talking to him.But every time I saw when I saw
that episode, I was like, oh,like the forever night episode
where you get tormented by thespecters of your past.
But Nick comes in, and he'slike, Alyssa, I just want you to

(01:21:09):
know that I really did love you.And I was really young and dumb,
and I didn't think it through. And I should have had my master
do it, but I kinda thought thatwould be weird. And I'm just
really sorry, and I wanted us tobe together forever.

Matt (01:21:21):
I should have asked LaCroix to come watch and make
sure I did it alright. Alright.

Nick (01:21:26):
Yeah. He tapped me on the shoulder when I'm, like, when
I'm done. Thanks. And he goes, you know, I'm just really sorry.
I'm sorry.
And then the fire lights up, andshe pops out of the shadows. And
she's like, I already forgaveyou. Like, I love you. I know
what you were trying to do. Youwere trying to trying to make it
so we could be together forever, and you're just kind of a fuck
up, Nick.
And I'm like, I love that aboutyou, but also I died because you

(01:21:47):
were. So I don't know. It's acomplicated situation. But you
shouldn't have come here becauseit's dangerous for you here,
because I'm not the only onehere. And a lot of the ones that
are here don't want to do nicethings to you.
And because of all that you'vedone and all that you've been,
if you do die, you won't be withme. Ever. Ever.

Wife (01:22:15):
Nicholas, I know that what you say is true. I love you
still. But I must tell youbecause I love you that you
should not have come here. Youare in danger here. You will die
here tonight.
And because of what you havebeen and done, you will not be

(01:22:37):
with me ever.

Nick (01:22:43):
Ever. Like, you remember when you you remember when you
went to the afterlife and yousaw your soul and it was filled
with maggots? Like that, Nick.Like that. You you don't you
don't there's no no coming back.
Like, you a bad dude. Okay? Sosorry. And they go back to the
precinct, and Tracy is talkingto Reese. And all I could think

(01:23:04):
is there's a guy on a ladder inthe background, and why are
there always people doing workon the precinct?
There's always somebody on aladder. Or remember the guy got
electrocuted in the Sons ofBilliell episode? Well, they
were looking for a sewage leaksomewhere in the building at
that time. But it's just like, why are they always painting?
Why are they always doingconstruction?

(01:23:25):
I don't get it. But Tracy comesto Reese, and she's like, I
found something. And Reese islike, okay.

Matt (01:23:32):
I did police work.

Nick (01:23:33):
I did some research. And Reese is like, okay. But please
tell me it isn't their ghost. And Tracy's just like, and he's
like, motherfucker. And she saysthat both the dudes were frat
bros 22 years ago in Ohio, andthere was a sexual assault and
murder that happened in thatarea that went unsolved.

(01:23:56):
And Reese is like, so that's theghost that came back and killed
them? Fucking seriously, Tracy? And Tracy's like, I mean yeah.

Matt (01:24:05):
I'm trying. I'm doing my best here, boss. Yeah.

Nick (01:24:09):
She's like, they maybe did it. Like, it seems like probably
they did it. And Reese is like, yeah. But that would still mean
it's a ghost killing them, andthere is no such thing. And then
the camera pans around Tracy.
And behind Tracy, shit's gonesideways in the office. There's
chairs floating upside down. There's flashing lights. It's
kind of dark. And she sees Susanpop out of the chaos, and she's

(01:24:34):
just standing there.
And Reese turns around, andliterally, Tracy is just
standing there staring at therest of the precinct.

Matt (01:24:38):
Oh, she drops her coffee.

Nick (01:24:39):
Yeah.

Matt (01:24:40):
And so Reese turns around to see what happened.

Nick (01:24:42):
And Reese is like, Tracy, are you okay? And she goes, tell
me what you see, captain. Andhe, like, walks around her and
stands in front of her, and wesee nothing is there. And he
goes, nothing?

Matt (01:24:53):
Cops.

Nick (01:24:54):
Cops? What do you see? Let me go back to Nick. Because
Alyssa's like, look. I forgiveyou, but you're still in danger.
Others are coming.

Matt (01:25:04):
You need to leave now. But wait. Follow me.

Nick (01:25:06):
Yeah. Oh, but just a second.

Matt (01:25:07):
I understand. Seek is here.

Nick (01:25:08):
Yeah. I know what you seek. The answer is here. And
I'll help you find it, and thenyou need to get the fuck out. So
she, like, disappears.
She, like, glow transfers tothis spot in the ground?

Matt (01:25:21):
He turns his flashlight on. And so I thought that was a
really cool transition of herfading away and him, like,
bringing his flashlight up atthe same time. Yeah. So it looks
like she turns into hisflashlight.

Nick (01:25:33):
Yeah. And what it is is Shirell His flashlight's haunted
forever. Well, he doesn't use itever anyway. It's fine. It's the
first time I've

Matt (01:25:41):
seen him use flashlight. The flashlight's actually not on
because he doesn't need it.

Nick (01:25:45):
Right. It's been a ghost light the whole time. So it's
actually

Matt (01:25:51):
It's a modern, will o wisp.

Nick (01:25:56):
So, it's Shirell's only earring. Stop derailing me.
Shirell's earring is, like, inthe debris by the fireplace, and
he picks it up. And he actuallyremembers the, like, getting
served tea at Ogden's house andthe fact that she only had one
earring on.

Matt (01:26:10):
Well, I think this served an additional purpose Yeah.
Which was when Tracy went totalk to Reese and Reese shot her
down, we saw a picture of thewoman who had been murdered.

Nick (01:26:25):
Not yet.

Matt (01:26:26):
Oh, I thought we she showed it to Reese. And then
shortly after, we see Nick'smemory.

Nick (01:26:33):
She just had, like, details. She was waiting on a
photo or something because wedon't see the photo until she
runs off, and they bring thephoto over and hand it

Matt (01:26:41):
to me. So it's right after this.

Nick (01:26:43):
Yeah.

Matt (01:26:43):
Good. We we see the hot blonde assistant to Ogden.

Nick (01:26:52):
And that's true. He remembered? Because he was
looking at her. That's why.

Matt (01:26:56):
Absolutely. He

Nick (01:26:57):
was looking at her neck.

Matt (01:26:58):
He remembers every hot blonde he's ever looked at.

Nick (01:27:00):
Yeah. Yeah. He's like, oh, yeah. I have flashbacks about
those people all the time. Hewas looking at her neck, and,
you know, your ears are rightthere.
So and her hair was up, so it'seasy to see her that her earring
was missing. And we go back toReese and Tracy, and Reese is
like, I'm gonna take you to theER, Tracy. Like, that's fair.
That kinda feels like there's agas leak in this house. That's

(01:27:21):
probably the problem.
And Susan

Rachel (01:27:23):
is there, and she's like, I'm going back to the
house because they're closingit, and I need to get back

Nick (01:27:29):
because, like, the door's shutting. I don't know. And
Tracy's like, okay. I have torun off to the house. So she
turns just in time to miss the, like, photo reveal.

Matt (01:27:38):
Yeah.

Nick (01:27:39):
Because the woman looks exactly like Sharrell. In the
meantime, Nick is getting chasedby women in the house, which I
feel like this could care if itwent to this house.

Matt (01:27:51):
This is not an unfamiliar situation for Garrett.

Nick (01:27:55):
Oh my god. Is it Tuesday?

Matt (01:28:00):
Security.

Nick (01:28:03):
You guys weren't supposed to tell them about each other.
It's a joke. It's a joke.Obviously it's a joke. Was that
joke?
This is a comedy podcast. SoNick is getting chased by women
in this house, and he, like, snarls at them, which I thought
always thought was kind of acool scene. Does my little
vampire heart happy whenthey're, like, chasing him and
he, like, hisses, snarls atthem? And then he runs off. He

(01:28:24):
actually runs through them andthrough this door.
Like, he could have turnedaround and just flown out the
window behind him, but that'sfine. That's fine.

Matt (01:28:31):
Okay.

Nick (01:28:32):
That's fine. So they come at him through the wall. Like,
we get the cool squishy walleffect.

Wife (01:28:36):
Mhmm.

Nick (01:28:37):
I love this effect. We use this

Matt (01:28:39):
This episode has the most special effects of any episode
I've seen so far.

Nick (01:28:43):
Yeah. Yeah. Like, a lot. There's an a movie called, I
think it's the frighteners, AndYes. It's another movie.

Matt (01:28:51):
Face pushing through the wall.

Nick (01:28:52):
It's about the same guy who did the Lord of the Rings
trilogy.

Matt (01:28:56):
Really? Peter Jackson?

Nick (01:28:57):
Yeah. Peter Jackson. Did the frighteners. I didn't know
that. It's got,

Matt (01:29:01):
Michael j Fox.

Nick (01:29:02):
Michael j Fox, and it's a really good, really good

Matt (01:29:08):
Scary ghost movie.

Nick (01:29:09):
Scary movie, but, like, the fun kind of ghost scary
movie where it's both scary and, like, just entertaining to
watch. Anyway, the use of

Matt (01:29:17):
the jump scare, and there's not a lot of gore.

Nick (01:29:20):
They use this effect a lot in it, and they use it to very
good effect. Like, it's reallywell done. So I always like the
squishy wall to, like, pushagainst the fabric Mhmm. Face
thing. And they do that right byNick, and Nick's like, oh, and
he falls down the stairs.
It's like, dude, you can fly.You didn't have to fall down the
stairs. I feel like after 800years, his knee jerk reaction
would not be to throw himselfsideways

Matt (01:29:41):
and he took it off. He was propelling himself downward.

Nick (01:29:44):
No. He didn't

Matt (01:29:45):
trip. This was intentional.

Nick (01:29:47):
Oh, okay. It was the fastest he rolls down.

Matt (01:29:49):
It was the fastest path. Okay.

Nick (01:29:53):
But he ends

Matt (01:29:53):
up finding him too early. He rolls, he gets a full 360
view around him.

Nick (01:29:59):
Oh, it's strategic. I got it. Okay. I got it. He, like,
did

Matt (01:30:03):
he But he he pulls it off so cleanly

Nick (01:30:06):
Yeah.

Matt (01:30:07):
That it it, confuses the other person into thinking that
he's just fallen down thestairs. Yeah. But, really, he's
pulled off a technical atechnical feat of propelling
himself away while getting afull, a full 360 view around

(01:30:29):
himself, like, update hissituational awareness and then
get ready for the next move.

Nick (01:30:33):
Well, it must work because he ends up going into an empty
room and shutting these doorsbehind him because we know if
you shut doors, ghosts can't getthrough them. And when he turns
around, Ogden is there, but he'sdead And Chenille

Matt (01:30:46):
Dogden.

Nick (01:30:48):
Dogden. Yes.

Matt (01:30:49):
Dead up.

Nick (01:30:49):
And Chenille is in there. Her name?

Matt (01:30:51):
Sharel.

Nick (01:30:52):
Sharel. Sharel. Oh.

Matt (01:30:55):
Susan's there.

Nick (01:30:57):
So Sharel is in there. Like, look. It worked. His
vigilance worked because hefound the bad guy.

Matt (01:31:07):
Shock up another closed

Nick (01:31:08):
case? Yeah. Check that box out, because Shirell comes up.
1st, she tases him. She taseshim, and he's like, ah, the
fuck?
He tased me, which it wouldn'twork because he doesn't have
electrical impulses, but it'sfine. And then she reveals that
it was her mother that those 2people killed and that she knew
that because she came to thishouse, and her mother came to

(01:31:30):
her and told her all about itand told her how she needed to
kill those people, that wasgonna be her closure. And Ogden
was gonna have this house torndown, and that was her only link
to her mother. She couldn't letthat happen. And then meanwhile,
Tracy has come to the house butgot totally distracted because
Susan shows up and she's like,Tracy,

Matt (01:31:49):
come play with me.

Nick (01:31:53):
Tracy, come play with

Rachel (01:32:00):
me. Tracy.

Nick (01:32:02):
K. And so Tracy's like, oh, okay. So Susan's like, walk
into the road, Tracy. AndTracy's like, I'll walk into the
road. That's bad.
And so she's walking into theroad slowly, and Nick actually
gets shot by Shirell. I have hername 4 different ways. Because
in this one, she's Chanel. And,like, the last one, she was

(01:32:23):
Chanel, It's Shirell. Nick getsshot by Shirell and surrounded
by when he wakes up, like, helays there dead for a bit.
When he wakes up, the ghosts areall around him. So he, like,
breaks free and jumps out thewindow because he didn't leave a
door window unlocked. So TorontoMothman, got you. Jumps out the
window.

Matt (01:32:42):
Toronto Mothman vandalized his house.

Nick (01:32:46):
And, like, can't they follow him? Because all the
other ghosts seem veryuntethered to this location.

Matt (01:32:52):
Right. It's not the location that's haunted. It's
the people.

Nick (01:32:57):
So Nick ends up saving Tracy from getting run over.

Matt (01:33:00):
It did take them a long time to show up. Yeah. Was that
because Alyssa was keeping themat bay?

Nick (01:33:06):
I don't know. Or maybe they're not as strong. Like,
they've been gone too long. Idon't know.

Matt (01:33:12):
Well, Alyssa oh, it's it's the emotional connection from
Nick that's weak.

Nick (01:33:16):
Yeah. Maybe when he was thinking only about Alyssa, he
wasn't feeling guilty about theother people. And then as soon
as that was coming to resolve, all the normal people brought it
up. Yeah. She mentioned it.
And then all of a sudden, heremembered all of the people
that he had killed who wouldprobably wanna kill him, and
that's what brought them tochicken and the egg scenario.
But he does save Tracy fromgetting run over by

Matt (01:33:38):
a kid. Or or, like, in The Matrix when the oracle is, like,
now the real thing that's gonnabug you is would you have
knocked over the vase if Ihadn't mentioned it?

Nick (01:33:48):
Yeah. That's exactly what

Matt (01:33:49):
this is. Ghosts have shown up if Alyssa hadn't mentioned
it?

Nick (01:33:52):
Right.

Matt (01:33:53):
Which is just a little bit of, yeah, I forgive you. I'm
still a little upset, though.

Nick (01:33:58):
Yeah. I mean, I would be a little salty, so it's fine. So
Nick saves Tracy from gettingrun over by a car, she says,
trying to redirect the common 81kilo episode back to the actual
episode. And then, luckily,Reese didn't trust them to do
their job because he followedTracy, and he ends up shooting
Shirod, the bad guy. He ends upshooting the bad lady, and then

(01:34:20):
he runs over to check on her.
And when he looks up at thestairs, there's a soldier coming
out of the house, and he pointsthe gun at him. And the guy
goes, watch where you'repointing that little Joe. And
then he turns around, he's got abullet hole in his back, and he,
like, walks off. And they comeover, Tracy and Nick come over,
and they're like, did you justsee something? And Reese is
like, nope.
I saw nothing. And then we goback to the loft. But just one

(01:34:42):
moment here. So from a Reese'sperspective, he follows Tracy
over. Tracy gets out of her car, takes a couple steps towards the
towards the house, and thenturns around and starts slow
walking into the road.
Meanwhile meanwhile, on theright side of the building, Nick
jumps out of a window in, like,a spray of broken glass.

Matt (01:35:04):
Of this derelict house.

Nick (01:35:06):
Of this derelict and then runs over and saves Tracy. And
Reese must just be like, oh, myGod.

Matt (01:35:13):
But then the bad guy

Nick (01:35:15):
shows up. Right. But somehow, they're both here
because the bad guys

Matt (01:35:20):
He's like, I can't fault their methods because they
always

Nick (01:35:24):
fight bad guys. You can't fault their results. You can
fault their methods all youwant.

Matt (01:35:31):
But their methods produce the results.

Nick (01:35:34):
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And Nick can say he was running away from
her because, I mean, the bad guywas there. I don't know.
It it's just sometimes when youtake a step back and think, what
did Reese see was what was whatdid that look like to Reese?
Because he didn't see Susan outin the road, and he didn't see
that Nick was being chased by ahoard of women from his past

(01:35:56):
life.

Matt (01:35:57):
Or that Nick got shot.

Nick (01:35:58):
Yeah. I don't know.

Matt (01:36:02):
Did Nick use vampire speed to get to Tracy? Oh, maybe.
Maybe maybe from Reese'sperspective Oh. The window
broke, and he saw a blur.

Nick (01:36:14):
And then something somebody was And then saving
Tracy.

Matt (01:36:17):
Nick who Tracy who was by herself.

Nick (01:36:21):
Yeah.

Matt (01:36:23):
Glass breaks, blur, look back. Now Nick is dragging Tracy
out of the road.

Nick (01:36:30):
Well, they go back to the loft because nobody cares.

Matt (01:36:32):
Now we have some fan canon that Reese is in on the vampire
thing.

Nick (01:36:39):
I mean, maybe maybe, all previous captains have left
notes. There's, like, a codedfile that's like, listen. We
don't think he's human, but hegets results. So whatever you
see him do, you just look theother way. Okay?
It's fine. So we go back to theloft, and Nick and Natalie are

(01:36:59):
at the loft. And Natalie isstanding in the

Matt (01:37:01):
Doesn't Shirell explain?

Nick (01:37:03):
No. She's dead. She gets

Matt (01:37:06):
shot. Well, we don't establish that Reese's shot was
fatal. But in the room, sheexplains that

Nick (01:37:12):
Yeah. I said that

Matt (01:37:13):
her mom She found us. Okay. So how did she find the
house? Her mom, 22 years agoYeah. Was killed in Ohio.
Yeah. How did she make her wayfrom Ohio to Toronto? And then

Nick (01:37:32):
Listen. If you live in Ohio, you would also flee to
Toronto.

Matt (01:37:36):
How does she find this house? Does she get a job with
Ogden and then visit the house?

Nick (01:37:41):
It's a chicken and egg.

Matt (01:37:43):
Does she is she, like, drawn to the house and then she
gets a job with Ogden?

Nick (01:37:49):
Sure.

Matt (01:37:51):
What I'm try what I'm leading up to here is this all
of that, all of how did she getto this house would be explained
if we make the outrageousassumption that all of this is
still I knew what you're gonnaLaCroix fucking with everybody.

(01:38:13):
LaCroix has orchestrated this.

Nick (01:38:16):
Okay. Listen. Listen. I read these books with Kate and
Hannah by this author namedSarah j Maas. And she has
created this explanation, whichfrom my perspective is I don't
want to create believable plotlines, so I have created this
this magic ring for myselfbecause every time I write

(01:38:39):
myself into the corner, I canjust slip it on.
I can I can tell a riddle gameand I can get out of dodge? And
it is that there is a there isan actual present divine force
in the world that guides fateand puts you where you need to
be.

Matt (01:38:56):
And it moves you there?

Nick (01:38:58):
Yes. It's the divine mover. It puts you where you
need to be in order for thething that you need to have
happened to you happen to you.And so either it is that, it is
fate itself that guides thepeople to these moments, or it's
Lacroix, or to both. Yeah.
I don't know. It doesn't matter.Maybe she just got a job and it

(01:39:24):
was purely coincidence. Anyonewho went to work for him who had
a tragic backstory would haveexperienced a ghost in that
house. It just so happened thather tragic backstory included 2
murderers who also worked inToronto.
She could have also suspectedthat they were the people that
killed her mom. She could havebeen there to investigate them.
She could have gotten a job withthat guy or heard because even

(01:39:45):
Nick knew that this house washaunted and that it let you see
people from your past.

Matt (01:39:50):
Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah. If if she'd So

Nick (01:39:53):
it was like calling a psychic hotline except it was
visiting us.

Matt (01:39:56):
Dropped a pamphlet in her apartment.

Nick (01:39:58):
Yeah.

Matt (01:40:01):
Here's this house that your the dead that you are
connected to Yeah. Come to you.

Nick (01:40:07):
You know what comes back to Lacroix? You want it to come
back to Lacroix? It comes backto Lacloy.

Wife (01:40:11):
In my head. It all comes

Nick (01:40:12):
back to Lacloy. I am with you. I fully believe he has the
time, the attention, and the

Matt (01:40:17):
And the motivation.

Nick (01:40:18):
The spiteful motivation to get that done. So we go back to
the loft and Natalie is standingby the mantle piece and she's
like, oh, okay. So is your caseclosed? And Nick jumps up from
the side and he goes, boo.Natalie's like, eee.
She's kinda cute. And he goes,oh, you mean my ghost? Like, oh,

(01:40:39):
my case? Yeah. I always close mycases.
However, they get closed out ofthat. Doesn't matter. But you
mean my ghost?

Matt (01:40:44):
My partner always takes care of

Nick (01:40:45):
the people. Like, whatever.

Matt (01:40:46):
I just know how to print the report.

Nick (01:40:48):
Yeah. And he's like, no. No. Yeah. My ghost had all
wrapped up.
And she goes, you know, youdidn't tell me who it was. Wink
wink. You didn't tell me. Youshould tell me. And Nick goes,
well, it was a woman I loved along time ago.

Matt (01:41:00):
And lost.

Nick (01:41:01):
And she just wanted to be remembered. He doesn't tell her
about the other ones that allattacked him. I mean, if
anybody's gonna bring somefucking baggage to this house,
it's Nick. So

Matt (01:41:15):
Do you think Lacroix has any baggage? No. Maybe

Nick (01:41:19):
There once was a man with a suitcase full of guilt.

Matt (01:41:23):
Which is Nick? All

Nick (01:41:28):
I was trying to remember the rest of that one, which is
just like all he ever all heneeded to do was put the
suitcase down and get out oftown, which I think is the rest
of it. It was like, just need todrop the suitcase.

Matt (01:41:37):
Just never carried a suitcase.

Nick (01:41:38):
Yeah. He's like, fuck it. I pack light.

Matt (01:41:41):
Travel light.

Nick (01:41:41):
I need to travel light. No. He that's his whole thing is
guilt is an anathema to thevampire existence. You cannot
both hold the guilt of all thatyou have done and expect to be
able to

Matt (01:41:54):
flourish as a

Nick (01:41:55):
vampire because you will always be bogged down by what
you have done. And you have nochoice but to do a lot of the
things that you do. And so youcan either feel bad about it
forever or die or die Or don'tfeel bad about it at all and be
just fine. So no. Lacroix wouldwalk in there and be just fine.

(01:42:17):
It probably would just feel likea house. He probably doesn't
even believe in ghosts becausehe's never seen one. Because if
ghosts are the things that

Matt (01:42:23):
we Each person doesn't even see each other's ghosts.

Nick (01:42:26):
Yeah. Because if ghosts are regrets, then he ain't got
one.

Matt (01:42:30):
And we know that the the whole ghost, like, sighting is
fully hallucinatory. It'scompletely internal because
Tracy is seeing chairslevitating and papers getting
thrown around and but we haveReese also in the same room

Nick (01:42:48):
at the same time,

Matt (01:42:49):
and nothing is actually happening. Right.

Nick (01:42:51):
And it's really interesting because that's what
Natalie talks about next.Because Nick is like, what do
you think the what the shit wasthat? And she goes, you know, I
would I'd be more willing tobelieve that this was an actual
ghost sighting, like a ghostevent, supernatural event, if
every single ghost was notactually the projection of our

(01:43:12):
own desires and subconsciousneeds. Like, I needed to hear my
grandmother say she was sorry, and so I saw my grandmother and
she said she was sorry. Youneeded to believe that your wife
knew that you didn't actuallykill her and you saw her and she
told you she forgave you and itwas okay.
And Tracy almost got hit by acar. So, I mean, everybody had

(01:43:37):
the fulfillment of some deepseated desire, sort of. And, so
I don't know. Like, it couldhave been just something in that
building that, like, manifestedsomething in your subconscious,
not necessarily a ghost, butsomething from inside you, which
kind of fits with what we weretalking about earlier. And
Natalie says

Matt (01:43:57):
Or Lacroix was in therapy mode.

Nick (01:43:59):
Natalie says, I'm not gonna say that I saw a ghost,
but if someone asked me if Ijust had a religious experience,
I would say I plead the 5th.

Matt (01:44:12):
So we open this episode with I plead the 5th.

Nick (01:44:14):
And we close it with I plead the 5th. Nobody nobody
puts their foot down on any kindof a determination. And then we
come to Tracy because Tracy isactually out putting a rose on
the tracks where her frienddied, and Reese is reminiscing
over a photo.

Matt (01:44:30):
Tracy's putting a rose down like, I fucking believe in
ghosts.

Nick (01:44:33):
She's like, please don't try to kill me anymore. That's
because she's been coming to herevery night since.

Matt (01:44:39):
Wait. I'll have Sean here's about this.

Nick (01:44:42):
I'm so sorry. I didn't come over, and I'm so sorry you
didn't know how to take off yourown glove. Like, I don't know
what to tell you. So sorry.

Matt (01:44:51):
I I said, Tracy arrives here, and she's resolved her
guilt. She's like, you're right.Like, this wasn't my fault, you
getting killed by the train. This was your fault. You got
your sweater stuck on the track.
You just pull on it. Yeah. Likelike the the old song says

Nick (01:45:14):
A train

Matt (01:45:15):
stuck on it. To destroy my sweater. Hold this thread as I
walk away.

Nick (01:45:24):
Did you just bring Weezer into this room?

Matt (01:45:26):
Yeah. And she just pulls on her sweater. I'm not gonna
have to

Nick (01:45:29):
change it again.

Matt (01:45:30):
She hooks her sweater on the train tracks and pulls, and
it's gonna unravel her sweater.

Nick (01:45:36):
Yeah. I don't know what to tell you, honey. It kinda feels
like that scene from AustinPowers when there's the
steamroller.

Matt (01:45:43):
It's like What I wanted to say is Tracy Mhmm. Got did get
closure Yeah. By putting theblame back on Sarah Susan.

Nick (01:45:55):
Yeah. She was like, Susan, it was your fucking fault.

Matt (01:45:58):
The whole time.

Nick (01:45:59):
The whole time. And I can't believe you traumatized me
by getting killed in front ofme, you stupid

Matt (01:46:05):
I can't believe you didn't even try to get off the tracks
and pull.

Nick (01:46:10):
Do you know what I would do?

Matt (01:46:11):
You can pull your arm into the sleeve.

Nick (01:46:13):
She pulls a full Natalie, and she's like, lots of people
see other people killed. I can'tbelieve you had to do it right
in front of me. This is yourfault. I don't know. We don't
get a resolution to her.

Matt (01:46:25):
My trauma is my fault because I looked.

Nick (01:46:28):
I could've looked away. No. I don't know. I feel like
we're in a rabbit hole here, andwe just need to dig our way out
because we're digging down, anddown is not the way we wanna go.
We wanna go up.
We had a lot of fun with thisepisode, but I don't hate this
episode. I like this episode. There's a lot of moments in this
episode that I really like. Thedark to light one, I really
love. The moment where he snarlsat all the ghosts, I really like

(01:46:52):
that episode.
And I think we have

Matt (01:46:55):
I really like how the filming was cut, like, edited
Yeah. For transitions.

Nick (01:47:01):
This felt like a fun, spooky episode.

Matt (01:47:04):
Yes. It was a good Halloween episode.

Nick (01:47:06):
Like, we've had, we have actual vampires in the show, but
we have never played withanything. So when we did the
sons of Billio, which is just awhole other kettle of fish. But
we haven't really played with, like, what other supernatural
create beings might there be,and what would happen if Nick
had any supernatural beings?

Matt (01:47:22):
The other time we've talked about a ghost.

Nick (01:47:24):
Yeah.

Matt (01:47:24):
It wasn't a ghost. It was just vampire ex girlfriend.

Nick (01:47:28):
It was the manifestation of his regret?

Matt (01:47:31):
No. The I think it was in season 1.

Nick (01:47:34):
Yeah. It was his it was the lady that he regretted not
knowing that she was suffering. It was it was his vampire ex
girlfriend who was prob who haddefinitely had some need for
therapy for a while becauseshe's

Wife (01:47:46):
the one that was like

Matt (01:47:46):
chasing him for 400 years.

Nick (01:47:49):
Oh, yeah. That one. I I thought we were talking about
last act where the lady sits outon the bench and commit it's
called Oh, oh,

Matt (01:47:58):
that's the vampire lady who sat out for the sunrise?

Nick (01:48:01):
Yeah. And then he sees her for the whole rest of the
episode, and she's like, joinme, Nicholas, because she's

Matt (01:48:07):
just his memory of her. I I was talking about the was it
Annabelle or something?

Nick (01:48:12):
Oh, yeah. That was the one where

Matt (01:48:14):
Where he

Nick (01:48:14):
chose her in the train yard. To fuck with him, brought
her back, and then she somehowspent 400 years looking for him
because that's what a womandoes, you guys. As soon as a man
does something to her, her onlypurpose in life is revenge for
400 years. And he's like, don'ttell me you've never killed
anybody. And she's like, yeah.
I killed plenty of people, and Ilove it. But that doesn't mean

(01:48:36):
that you had that you could havedone that, you son of a bitch.
That's oh, yeah. That one was,

Matt (01:48:42):
But at first, Nick thinks it's a ghost.

Nick (01:48:44):
I cannot remember the title. This is one of those ones
that the title always escapesme. It's the one where Stonetree
almost gets, convicted ofwrongfully shooting that one
little boy

Matt (01:48:55):
Yeah.

Nick (01:48:56):
Or kid or whatever. It's, not false witness. I don't know.
You stopped me. Dang it.
I'm not looking it up. I'm notlooking it up because if I don't
know, I don't deserve to know.So I guess we're just gonna
leave it there. We're wrappingthings up, here at Come In 81
Kilo, kind of. We're on episode14, which means we've got, like,

(01:49:19):
8 ish episodes left to go, 7 or8.
I don't know. This has been alot of fun. I don't know if
we're gonna do another TV seriesimmediately. But if you have one
that you think we shouldconsider doing in the future, do
feel free to send us arecommendation.

Matt (01:49:33):
Yeah. Mini series would be fun.

Nick (01:49:35):
Yeah. I wanna do some mini series. I think that would be

Matt (01:49:38):
4 to 8 episodes Yeah. Of something.

Nick (01:49:41):
Oh, I've got some ideas. You wanna do mini series? I got
so much.

Matt (01:49:44):
But if you guys have any suggestions

Nick (01:49:46):
Yeah.

Matt (01:49:47):
Send it in.

Nick (01:49:47):
Yeah. And I I mean, I do read them. I will add them to
the list. I can't promise wewill do them, but I can promise
I will read them and respond andtell you thank you. And you can
find that in a contact form onour website, which is
There is a recommendation formon there. Feel free to fill it
out and send us a recommendationof what you think we should do

there. It's atstrangeandbeautifulnetwork on
Instagram.

Matt (01:50:18):

Nick (01:50:20):
Link in the show notes as well as a link to all of the
other podcasts that we do do. Soif you think you're going to be
missing our lovely voices, wealso do, like, 6 other podcasts.
We have strange and beautifulbook club where we cover movies
and books in the sci fi,fantasy, and horror genre. And

(01:50:40):
we also have feast, sheath, andshatter, where I chat with 2
other ladies, Kate and Hannah, about, popular books and more
like romantic fantasy books. Andit's really fun.

Matt (01:50:51):
Especially up smart.

Nick (01:50:52):
And straight up smart. And we also have Gare Can Get It,
which is the, the spiritualsuccessor of Come In 80 1 kilo,
I think, which is really juststarted as a joke, which is that
there can't possibly be anactor.

Matt (01:51:04):
It's like a game of chicken with you and Meg.
Neither of you have backed outyet.

Nick (01:51:10):
She was like, we're gonna start 1, and we're gonna call it
Garrett Can Get It. And I waslike, okay. But we have to know,
like, know that we have anentire podcast about how horny
Gerrit Wind Davey's career hasbeen and still be able to look
him in the eye when we go meethim. And she was like, I can do
that, and so here we are.

Matt (01:51:27):
She'll have no memory of not doing it.

Nick (01:51:32):
It's it's a really it's a lot of fun. We have quite a bit
more to cover because he hasquite an illustrious career.
Couple we're gonna combine, butfor the most part, we've done
things episodically so far. So,you know, go check out Gare Can
Get It. That's a ton of fun.
Matt was a guest on one of theepisodes, so he's over
