Episode Quo (00:03):
I just got the test results. What caused Jeanette to
become mortal was the massivedose of beta blockers and
norepinephrine caused by heremotional trauma. It means that
we've been doing the right thingall along, and I've got proof
positive. Nick, we're going tohave a baby.

Matt (00:28):
Give me 2 shots of cocaine. Sorry. Give me said
that.

Rachel (00:33):
You were

Matt (00:33):
still there.
It again.

Rachel (00:43):
You'll be ready. Hi. I'm Rachel.

Matt (00:46):
And I'm Matt. And this

Rachel (00:48):
is Come in 81 kilo.

Matt (00:51):
A forever night podcast.

Rachel (01:43):
Okay. We're back. Welcome back, friends. It's time
for another episode, a ForeverKnight episode, Forever Knight
season 3 episode 16, humanfactor.

Matt (01:56):
In which I called all the plot twists.

Rachel (01:58):
You did. But I just wanna take a moment, and I need
everyone to say thank you,Rachel, for literally keeping
this a secret for, like, a yearand a half.

Matt (02:08):
I was completely convinced that Jeannette was gone, that
Deborah was gone.

Rachel (02:13):
Yeah.

Matt (02:14):
And because Rachel had told me, and I trust Rachel.

Rachel (02:17):
Yeah. Hashtag spoiler for

Matt (02:18):
your life. Neither Jeanette or John Caplos were in
any more of season 3.

Rachel (02:24):
I would argue this isn't exactly Jeanette. This is

Matt (02:28):
Jeanette like This is Janet, not Jeanette.

Rachel (02:32):
This is absolutely Janet. She doesn't even have her
French accent anymore.

Matt (02:38):
Every once in a while, it comes out.

Rachel (02:40):
Yeah. When she says Nicolas, and then she just dumps
it because she's like, fuck you.You guys fired me from this
show. You get it you get whatyou get.

Matt (02:48):
And the the soccer mom outfit and makeup.

Rachel (02:52):
I know. I love how soon as she's human, she's like, I I
must give up the leather. Icannot wear leather ever again.
I used to wear a leather dressand a leather jacket with a
leather cape over top of

Matt (03:04):
it. Is the first time I've seen her in a nonstructured top.

Rachel (03:09):
I know. You should guess she's human right off the bat
because she wears a denimjacket, like a floral skirt.
Yeah. Yeah. This is the it's notnot a glow down.
She doesn't look terrible likethis, but it's definitely the
mom version of Jeanette. Yeah.Yeah. Janet. So if you don't
know, this is the episode withthe guest star, special guest

(03:31):
star, Deborah Duchene as Janet.
Jeanette. Jeanette. Where shefalls in love with a guy named
Bob and becomes human. So I'mjust really excited. Matt Matt,
actually, he did call everysingle thing.
He was like, too bad she's gonnaget turned into a vampire. I was
like, son of a bitch. I waslike,

Matt (03:51):
I was like, oh, interesting that she's human
now.

Rachel (03:55):
I was like, no. What? No. It's not. That's not what
happens.

Matt (04:00):
And then I I held it in. I knew it was coming.

Rachel (04:03):
Yeah. It's the denim fucking denim jacket. They
should've let her be Jeanetteeven if it was, like, putting
back on a costume.

Matt (04:10):
But then right before I knew she was gonna get turned
back into a vampire

Rachel (04:15):
Yeah. I was

Matt (04:15):
like, it's too bad Nick's gonna have to turn her back into
a vampire.
And she's like, no. Fell over on the couch.

Rachel (04:23):
Can I just say, I am I am here for the second half of
season 3? I honestly, I thinkwe've mentioned it, like, 17
times, maybe 18. I didn't watchthese in order ever before.
Before. And so now I'm watchingthem in order, and I didn't
realize that all the fuck it.
I think I'll just be a vampireagain episodes are in the second

(04:45):
half of season 3.
At which you said they found outthe show was gonna be canceled.
When they found out it wascanceled, but stylistically,
there's a huge 180 right about
episode, like, 10 or 12. Yeah.Yeah. And that, to me, says, oh,
we probably are.

Matt (05:05):
Need to perform for the exec bros.

Rachel (05:07):
We're not dancing monkeys anymore. So bye bye,
vampire dog. Hello, AIDS. Okay?Like, we're we're just because
you think about how we startedout this season with, like,
vampire dog and a couple of theother slightly more ridiculous
episodes of Forever Night as awhole.
And then by the second half ofseason 3, it is heavy as fuck.

(05:33):
And we have done away with theNick wants to be human. It's
kinda like, well, that'd benice. But in the meantime, I
kinda think I'm just gonna beme.

Matt (05:45):
And we've completely abandoned the Tracy Vashon
romance arc.

Rachel (05:48):
We haven't seen Vachon since Fever. Maybe he's

Matt (05:51):
Four episodes, I think.

Rachel (05:52):
He's been recovering. Fever was episode 13, so we
haven't seen him in 3 episodes. And then we don't see him in the
next episode either. Yeah. Yeah.
We haven't seen Erz in, like, forever. Like, it was like the
beginning was like, okay, guys. We're gonna have like, here's
your the focus groups want moreyoung characters. Here you go.

(06:13):
And then by the second half, they were like, fuck the focus
groups.
We're gonna do whatever the shitwe want. And I'm here for it.
I'm here for it. Even Tracy getsa glow up. Tracy actually gets
to be, like, a character.

Matt (06:27):
Yeah. Like With she has emotions and

Rachel (06:30):
and emotions and

Matt (06:32):
Backstory?

Rachel (06:33):
Yeah. Tons of back backstory that makes sense. It
doesn't it's not like the sunny,like, oh, I have an uncle. He's
dying. He's dying.
Who? Next episode. Oh, how'sSunny doing? Who? Who's Sunny?
I forgot. I don't remember. It'sit's more of a it's good. Like,
it's good. The second half is sogood, and I didn't realize they

(06:55):
were all grouped up like that.
I feel like maybe we should havehit the ground running at the
beginning of season 3. You mighthave actually gotten to season 4
instead of vampire dog. Ofcourse, somebody's gonna watch
vampire dog, and then they'relike, wow. This is not what I
mean, if you're a vampire fan,you turn on forever night, and
it's a golden retriever who'sbetter at turning people into
vampires than Nick is. You'relike, oh, is this a comedy?

(07:19):
I don't understand. And then youdon't come back and watch it
again. But if you come and youwatch the human factor, which
is, like, Nick is operatingoutside the law Mhmm. In this
episode and the next episode

Matt (07:33):
Right. Things are getting a lot more serious than usual.

Rachel (07:35):
Yeah. I mean, we've had quite a few where he's gone
rogue and just done what hewants to do, and that he's being
very vampire y in all of them. And this is

Matt (07:45):
It was it was the the loss of progress from the demon
possession.

Rachel (07:51):
Is that what it was?

Matt (07:52):
That's why he's more vampire y now.

Rachel (07:53):
Yeah. And then the night in question where he lost a
bunch of his memories and maybedidn't get them all back. We
don't know. Alright. So let'sstart this episode.
We start with a man in hisboxers.

Matt (08:08):
It's a it's a good look.

Rachel (08:09):
It's a look. I paused it.

Matt (08:10):
It's a look.

Rachel (08:11):
I paused it because I went to get a drink and I was
like, wow. That's a that's alook. Just like lounging on it.

Matt (08:18):
Yeah.

Rachel (08:18):
I don't know. I love how, Garrett Winn Davies is
literally the most clothedperson I've ever seen ever, and
yet every time there's any kindof a guest star, they're like,
would you like to just wearboxers? And he's like, yeah. You
want me to eat snacks while I doit? And they're like, fuck yes.
And I wish this television showwould get an HD upgrade. I'm
just gonna put that out to theuniverse. We can't get a reboot.

(08:40):
Can we at least get a Blu ray? But, honestly, I thought he was
eating snackies and holding ablock of cheese, but I actually
think that this it's anenvelope.
But when you first see it, itlooks like he's holding, like, a
block of cheddar.

Matt (08:53):
Yeah. He's holding this little Manila envelope, like,
face onto the camera.

Rachel (08:58):
Yeah.

Matt (08:59):
And when he sits up, he turns it sideways. Oh, okay.
It's an envelope, but there'ssomething in there. But, yes, it
does look like a block ofcheddar cheese Yeah. Without the
wrapper on.

Rachel (09:08):
Wow. I mean, Matt has literally done that. So

Matt (09:12):
It's not it's not an impossible.
Not unreasonable.

Rachel (09:16):
I was like, oh, he's eating a block of cheese. Oh,
okay. And he's got, like, themost psychopath way you can eat
out of a bag of chips. It's likeripped down the middle in the
back so he can just stick hishand in the top. That's how you
know he's a bad guy.

Matt (09:30):
Yeah.

Rachel (09:30):
Nobody eats chips like that. And he ends up yelling
into the bathroom for whoever'sin there to hurry up and you see
steam coming out of thebathroom. I don't know. Maybe if
that Sean's in there. That wouldhave been better twist, but it's
not.

Matt (09:42):
Oh, yeah. I just hypnotized the guy into thinking
it's a woman.

Rachel (09:47):
And then there's a knock at the door, and he walks over.
And he opens the door, and hegoes, what the hell? And then a
woman starts speaking French tohim. And then And

Matt (09:56):
I thought, oh, that sounds like Jennette, but she's not in
the show anymore. Yeah. Aw. Andthen we saw a silhouette through
the window, and it's like, oh,that kinda looked like Jennette,
but oh, well. Yeah.
What a coincidence.

Rachel (10:11):
And then the credits ruined it. They were, like,
guest starring Deborah Duchene, and Matt goes, it was Jeanette.
And I was like, what? No. What?
No. Yes. Absolutely. Yes. Andthen she shoots him.
So pew pew. And then goesthrough his briefcase and
doesn't find what she needs. Soshe takes the key out of the
envelope that's on the bed nextto his body. So good thing he

(10:31):
didn't have the stash anywhere. He was literally watching TV,
eating snacks, clutching theenvelope with the key piece of
evidence in it.
Yeah. While waiting for thewoman in the bathroom to get out
so they could apparently dosomething about his boxer
shorts. I don't know. I don'tknow if this is post coital or
pre coital. If she was like, wow.
I feel dirty. I think I'm gonnatake a shower. Or if it was

(10:53):
like, honey, wash up before wedo this. And so the woman then
comes out of the bathroom andsees him dead. And she looks up
at the window, and the personwho shot him is in the window
and then runs off.
And then we go to the intro.Bottom. Bottom. That's the
setup. If this guy dies, his keygets stolen.
We witness a moment of seeingthis woman and then off. And

(11:17):
then we come back and it's thecrime scene. And we actually
start with them holding up thisbadge that says arson squad.

Matt (11:23):
Mhmm.

Rachel (11:24):
And this guy's name is La Roche.

Matt (11:26):
La Roche.

Rachel (11:27):
La Roche. I forgot his first name.

Matt (11:29):
From from Quebec.

Rachel (11:31):
From Montreal.

Matt (11:32):
Yeah.

Rachel (11:32):
Yeah. And they're like the lady sitting there, she's
like, I don't know. We felt theconnection. We decided we would
take a chance. It was just a onenight stand.
I don't know what to tell youguys. He was here from Montreal
for the night. He was notimmediately repulsive, so I
figured I could probably hit itand quit it. And here we are, a

(11:52):
witness to his murder. I don'tknow what to tell you.
And, yeah, then the guestcredits spoiled Jeanette's
return.

Matt (11:59):
Mhmm.

Rachel (12:01):
And the lady, they're like, well, can you give us a
statement? And she's like, Imean, sure. Yeah. I'll go down,
but can I get dressed first? Andthey're like

Matt (12:10):
Fair.

Rachel (12:10):
Nick is like, yes.

Matt (12:13):
Do you really need to?

Rachel (12:14):
I mean, that's fine if you want to. And then Tracy
goes, memo to Tracy. It's roughout there in dating land.

Episode Quote (12:20):
Can I get dressed first?

Matt (12:22):
Oh, I know.

Rachel (12:23):
Memo to Tracy. It's a jungle out there in date lands.
I mean, yes. Yes then. Yes now.
Memo to everybody. Okay. Yes,Tracy. This wasn't even really
dating land. This was, like, goto a bar and pick the least
worst thing in the bar.

Matt (12:40):
Well, that is a style of dating.

Rachel (12:42):
I guess. Yeah.

Matt (12:43):
And if it works out Yeah. Then you know you're at least
sexually sexually compatible.

Rachel (12:48):
Right.

Matt (12:48):
And maybe maybe you, have some more dates and

Rachel (12:52):
I wonder if he was gonna hold the key through the whole
thing.

Matt (12:56):
Obviously.

Rachel (12:57):
Honey, can you put that down?

Matt (12:58):
No. No. It it's part of what turns me on.

Rachel (13:01):
It's my key. I call

Matt (13:02):
it the key. The key to the money.

Rachel (13:05):
The key to my money. Oh, is that a euphemism? No.

Matt (13:12):
Oh, yeah. I guess if he's just here with, like, a woman he
picked up at the bar Yeah. Whyis he flaunting this key?

Rachel (13:22):
Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Why was
he just clutching this envelope?
But whatever. And I love howwe've boiled Natalie's role down
at crime scenes to just walk upto Natalie next to the body. She
announces the cause of death andthen leaves. So she goes, it was
a small you know, Nick walksover to the body. Natalie's

(13:43):
standing there as she juststands next to everybody, and
she goes, it was a smallcaliber, couple of shots.
He either knew his killer or shewas really fast. I have now
given you all of the information

Matt (14:01):
poor Kathy. Although, she does get some more She

Rachel (14:03):
gets some stuff right

Matt (14:04):
here. More serious conversations later. She's She's
in

Rachel (14:06):
a new television show. Somebody messaged me and sent me
a picture of her. She's in,like, Law and Order Toronto.

Matt (14:14):
Oh, nice.

Rachel (14:14):
Yeah. Toronto. As, I guess, the the asshole lawyer
that always steps in and keepsthem from being able to do their
job. And I'm like, oh, I'm sohappy for her. Like, I know she,
I love seeing her get roles thataren't, I'm the quirky
grandmother who's so silly, orthe, I'm literally here just to

(14:36):
provide you enough informationto move the plot forward.
I like it when she gets to be,like, sassy and funny or mean or
whatever. Just to to bedifferent.

Matt (14:45):
Yeah. I could see her as a good, like, charismatic asshole

Rachel (14:50):
Yeah.

Matt (14:51):
Who thinks they're doing their job right because everyone
else is just cowboy

Rachel (14:58):
in it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We kinda leave the crime scene,
and we get some montage timewith the claw podcasting about
how winter is the bleakestseason.

LaCroix (15:10):
Baron, bleak. Winter is the kindest season. The heart
will not melt in winter. Chilledby the cold, we are spared the
grief, the sorrow, the messyemotion of life. Winter is

(15:32):
solace for the lonely.
Its cool touch soothes thetattered heart.

Rachel (15:39):
The heart will not melt in winter.

Matt (15:42):
Get Jeanette listening to it.

Rachel (15:43):
Yeah. Yeah. She's listening to it with Patrick in
the car. So she's got a child inthe car listening to Lacroix,
and Lacroix is like, oh, the

Matt (15:52):
So after the intro, we're in the we're in the crime scene,
and I connected the dots. Oh.Yeah. Jeanette is human now.
Okay.
So when we got here, I think,oh, she's, like, reminiscing
Yeah. About about her vampireher lost vampire ness or her

(16:12):
former vampire ness.

Rachel (16:14):
Yeah.

Matt (16:14):
But what is she doing here? I knew she couldn't be a
vampire anymore because sheJeanette, the vampire sorry.
Jeanette would never use a gun.Yeah. She would have used her
hands or her teeth.
Yeah. But Janet would use a gunYeah. Because that's all she

(16:35):
has. So so this guy hadsomething she wanted, so she had
to follow him here to get it.And she has a kid with her.
Okay.

Rachel (16:49):
She has Galen Wyndavies with her. Hello, baby Galen.
This is Nick. Not Nick.

Matt (16:56):
That's Clyde Harris.

Rachel (16:59):
Child. Child. His son. His son, Galen, plays Patrick.
And it is if you go on IMDB, hehas 2 credits, and it's for
this.
And then there's, like, a makeupa makeup guy on the 2016 Blair
Witch Project, and that's it. Sohe's gone on and done other
stuff. He did not become anactor, but you have to imagine

(17:20):
Nick goddamn it. Gar was like, II know a boy, like, who could be
in this. And they were like, alright.
Fine.

Matt (17:27):
You need a small boy who has permission to film at night.

Rachel (17:31):
Yeah. Okay. I grant him permission. Okay. Great.
So, oh, he's so cute. He triesso hard. It must have been so I
mean, I know how my daughterfeels every time I have a job
and she gets to go, like, behindthe counter or, you know, back
in the work area or whatever. It's like, oh, I'm the I have
special privileges.

Matt (17:51):
I could tell this boy was having fun Yeah. Just being on
set because later, there's ascene where he goes to fetch the
photo

Episode Quo (17:58):
Yeah.

Matt (17:59):
And he just, like, bounces up the stairs, like, very
jauntily.
Yeah. It's like, oh, this
is not a child who has just been woken out of sleep.

Rachel (18:09):
No. No. Although, our daughter would probably be like
that.

Matt (18:12):
Yeah. Yeah.

Rachel (18:13):
Yeah. So anyway, she's listening to the nightcrawler
while this child is in the carwith her, which that's bad
momming. Sorry, Jeanette. That'snot don't do that. I've never
let my kids listen to theexistentialist dread podcaster,
and he's like, oh, winter, chilled by the cold.

(18:34):
Winter is the solace for thelonely. And she's I wonder if
he's only local or if she canget him in Montreal.

Matt (18:43):
It's probably just local. They'd have to have, like, a
repeater situation set up.

Rachel (18:47):
And then we get a flashback.

Matt (18:48):
This is pre Internet radio.

Rachel (18:50):
So she hasn't even heard his voice in however long it is
since she left.

Matt (18:54):
Like a year.

Rachel (18:55):
Like a year. And we get a flashback to Jennette selling
the club to Lacroix, and sheactually gets to be Jeanette.
Like, she gets her hair coiffed, and she gets, like, dramatic
makeup. And she's actually notselling him the club. She's just
handing him the deed.
Yeah. And she goes, it hassheltered me and allowed me to
shelter others to be a mother tostrays. And Lacroix goes, ah,

(19:17):
yes. We must compare parentingnotes about parenting strays
sometimes. It's not the samething, Laclage.
She's trying to provide a havenfor people that don't feel like
they have anywhere else to go.You literally won't let Nick go.
It's not the same thing. He isthe kind of stray I would
shelter from you, sir. But sheends up giving the raven to

(19:40):
Lacroix because she's leaving,And she's like, I'm gonna tell
you why, but and then we cutback to the present.
So we don't know why she gavebecause we at this point, you
know, 16 episodes after shedisappeared, we still don't know
why she left except it was timeto move on.

Matt (20:00):
It's because the executives thought she wasn't
pretty enough.

Rachel (20:03):
The fucking audacity.

Matt (20:05):
Right.

Rachel (20:05):
The audacity. Honestly, I can't I can't even with that.
So then we cut back to thepresent where there is a child
named Patrick in the car, whichwe already covered, and she
goes, how would you like to gosee aunt Peggy? And he's like,
oh, yeah. Sure.
Sure, aunt Peggy. It's gotta bebetter it's gotta be better than
being in this cold ass car allday.

Matt (20:24):
And listening to this And, Nihilistic monologueer.

Rachel (20:29):
Mom Janet, you forgot to feed me again. She's, like,
goddamn it. I've only been ahuman for, like, a week. This is
truly hard work. How often doyou need to eat?
Once a week, twice a week? Whatare we

Matt (20:39):
working with here? It was fading, and the vampire the
vampire lingered.

Rachel (20:46):
Yeah.

Matt (20:47):
Right? But it finally left her when she killed LaRoche.

Rachel (20:51):
Well, her So she's instinct left her when she
killed LaRoche. LaRouche.

Matt (20:55):
Oh, okay.

Rachel (20:55):
Yeah. Not not her being a vampire, just her desire to
kill people.

Matt (21:01):
Okay.

Rachel (21:01):
Yeah. That was her last, like, woo hoo. I need to kill
this man. Oh, now I'm done withthat now. And then we come back
to a lady at the station andshe's working with a sketch
artist.
But it's not a sketch artist.It's a computer. It's like a
computer composite program. Andit every time I That's

Matt (21:17):
interesting.

Rachel (21:18):
Every time I see this, it reminds me of the, Makeover
song from Earth Girls Are Easy.Where they're like, let's give
you blue eyes, and it's like, boop boop boop boop boop boop
boop boop boop boop. And it,like, changes her eyes to blue.
And then it's like, how about wego blah? And then it's like, do
do do

Matt (21:33):
do do do do do do do.

LaCroix (21:34):
And it

Rachel (21:34):
changes her That's exactly what this looks like.
Yeah. And so she's like, oh, Idon't know. The eyes aren't
right. The mouth the whatever.
They're just swapping out thesewhatever computer generated
images to create a compositethat looks like a photograph
because we're using parts ofactual photographs to make it.
And we find out that the guy whowas killed was Mario LaRouche

(21:58):
Mario LaRouche. And he wasbooked off according to his
employer, who is the, like, arson squad in Montreal. And
Nick is like, okay. So he choseto come to a cheap hotel in
Toronto?
I mean, come on, Nick. Noteverybody's a billionaire. We
can't all just, like, go stay in

Matt (22:15):
the penthouse. His idea of a vacation.

Rachel (22:17):
Yeah. Maybe that's all he wanted. Maybe he was here to
see the sites and, staying in abra in light a cheap hotel was
all he could afford. Judgey,McJugerson. And they finished
making the sketch at whichlooks, by the way, absolutely
nothing like Tibet.

Matt (22:38):
If you squint a little bit. It's on a CRT screen. It
might have looked like Jeanette.No. No.

Rachel (22:44):
It wouldn't. And Nick is like, oh, shit. That's a
Jeanette. Well, okay, Nick. Ithink you're just seeing
Jeanette everywhere, becausehe's probably horny.
He doesn't have anybody, and hedoesn't have his, like, Thursday
night date anymore. She justleft him.

Matt (22:57):
Oh, maybe that's why he's more vampire y.

Rachel (22:59):
Yeah. But he spots her. Like, he sees the picture, and
immediately, we get theflashback to his, like, when he
got changed into a vampire, andshe was there. And I was like,
oh, is this for people thathaven't watched season, like,
season 1 and 2? You wouldn'tknow who Jennette was.
Yeah. So this is like anestablishing oh, it's his

(23:22):
vampire sister, wife, lover

Matt (23:26):
Thing.

Rachel (23:26):
Thing. So, by the way, this is who she is.
Congratulations. We got aflashback for that. And we don't
get context for it.
We just get him, like, yeah,Jennette. Like, eating her her
hand. And then Lacroix, we gosee Lacroix, because Nick is
like, oh, shit. That's Jeanette.I must go talk to Lacroix about
it.
So he goes to Lacroix. And Ijust wanna point out Lacroix is

(23:47):
wearing this, like, red velvetbutton up shirt, which is unlike
the couple the top couplebuttons are unbuttoned. And I
didn't know I would like a manin red velvet, but it turns out
I do.

Matt (23:59):
Alright. Red velvet shirt.

Rachel (24:01):
And this show giveth and this show taketh away. That's
all I'm gonna say. And you know,it's really funny because when I
was younger, like, Lacroix waslike, ew, he's the old guy.
Like, you know, whatever. Idon't whatever.
You know, not not as interestedin Nigel Bennett as I would have
been in, Garrett Wendavies. Andcertainly, Garrett Wendavies
still has his appeal, but as anolder woman now, I'm like, well,

(24:22):
I get it, Nigel. I get it. I'mI'm here for all of this, and
Nick is asking about Jeanette. And Laquise is like, Jeanette.
Jeanette. Jeanette. Yeah. Ithink I did we know

Matt (24:36):
a Jennette? I'm supposed to keep this a secret.

Rachel (24:39):
Yeah. He's he's really trying to I mean, he's a good
liar. He's a good liar.

Matt (24:42):
Oh, yeah. So Yeah.

Rachel (24:44):
He he's like, well, no. If Jennette was in town, I would
have sensed her, and so wouldyou. And come on, Jeanette's not
gonna shoot somebody. Would itthat that'd be the most plebeian
way to kill. Like like, it's theworst possible thing that could
happen.
Ew. She shot somebody?

Matt (25:02):
I raised her better than that.

Rachel (25:04):
She should've killed him with her fucking teeth. And
Lacroix ends up having aflashback, and it's the same
flashback to when he got theclub. And she says she's
starting to doubt herself, andthat's why she's leaving,
because she's starting toquestion who and what she is.
And he's like, fucking Nicholas. And she goes, I actually have

(25:28):
been fucking Nicholas, but thatis not the problem.

Matt (25:33):
I'm claiming that's unrelated.

Rachel (25:34):
Yeah. She goes, I like what I am and I don't want that
to change, but I don't wanna endup like Nick. I don't wanna end
up questioning, like, all of mychoices over the last 8
centuries. Like, we keep saying8 centuries. She's 2 centuries
older than Nick is.

LaCroix (25:54):
Yeah.

Rachel (25:55):
We couldn't even fucking remember how old Jeanette was.

LaCroix (26:00):
Bleh.

Rachel (26:01):
Y'all get it together. And she just said she needs some
distance. Needs some distance. Imean, that's fair. He's toxic
and she's trying to put somespace.
She's trying to get some space. And LaCroix is like, cool. You
go. I also don't want you tobecome Nick. I have my hands
full already.
And Jeanette says, Nick can'tknow. Like, you can't tell him

(26:23):
that I'm leaving because of thatbecause he's gonna find me and
he's gonna convince me to joinhis crusade. No. I'm just
kidding. Because, he carries toomuch already.
Like, he already questionshimself. He already has enough
guilt about literally everythingthat happens in his life. I
don't need him to add this tothe pile. And then she tells
LaCroix, be sure there willalways be a place for strays
here. And he's like, well, youjust gave me the deed, and you

(26:45):
didn't ask me that before yougave me the deed.
So I don't know. Maybe she It's

LaCroix (26:49):
not binding.

Rachel (26:51):
You know what? It she has a very different
relationship with LaCroix thanNick does. So there may be a
reason for her to believe thatLaCroix will do what she asks.
Yeah. She certainly assumes hewill.
So I don't know. Maybe he alwaysdoes. Maybe that's why Urs and
Vashon are there.

Matt (27:11):
Oh, Estrays. Estrays. Yeah. Yeah. That's possible.

Rachel (27:15):
And Lacroix comes back from the flashback. He must have
just drifted off, and Nick islike, oh, okay. I'm just gonna
give him 30 seconds.

Matt (27:21):
I'm familiar with this.

Rachel (27:23):
So just kinda okay. And

Matt (27:24):
he's what it looks like from the outside.

Rachel (27:26):
Oh, he's back. Okay. And she he goes, she didn't tell you
why? And Lacroix goes, I neverasked.

Matt (27:33):
He's telling the truth.

Rachel (27:35):
Yeah. He did not ask. She volunteered that
information. Technically correctis the best kind of correct.

Matt (27:44):
Yes. Lacroix, rule number 17 for life.

Rachel (27:47):
Technically correct is the best kind of correct. And
Nick leaves. He's like, I'mpretty sure you lied to me, but
I also know that my chances ofgetting the truth from you are,
0 to negative 10. So you willdouble down on your lying and
then forget you said anything atall, so I'm leaving. So Nick
leaves to go drive around on wetstreets for a while, Just
morosely.

(28:09):
Think about life. And then weget this weird ass LaCroix
transition. I don't know what'shappening here, but he is
podcasting in his littlepodcasting studio, which I told
you was a giant window, andlooks out on the studio

LaCroix (28:22):
Yeah.

Rachel (28:22):
Or on the club, which means everybody can see Lacroix
sitting there talking into amicrophone while they're at the
club.

Matt (28:30):
Yeah.

Rachel (28:31):
Yeah. And we transition between him sitting in the booth
and then him outside in theRaven, but he's, like, right up
next to the camera.

Matt (28:40):
So this is like LaCroix doing, like, a selfie video.

Rachel (28:44):
Yes. He's vlogging.

Matt (28:48):
While while floating around the club.

Rachel (28:52):
They're like, what's he doing? Just let him do it. And
it and there's no cell phone, which means he's holding a whole
ass camera in his hand and hasit turned towards himself.

Matt (29:01):
Yeah.

Rachel (29:01):
Like, oh, I'm still gonna put this on the Internet
later. Well, he is in that forumwith all of the serial players.
Remember? He's rosebud, so hehas an online presence.

Matt (29:10):
He's a he's a pioneer of Internet content generation.

Rachel (29:14):
Yeah. He is. He's a podcaster. He's a video blogger.
He's a what would you expectfrom the world's oldest troll?
Except to always keep up withthe medium best suited to
trolling.

Matt (29:29):
Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely.

Rachel (29:31):
Oh, Nick won't come to me. I shall troll him over the
airwaves. Oh, Nick won't come tome. I shall videotape myself
chastising him and put it up onthe Internet. But I'm never
gonna specifically mention thatit's about him.
So people will feel like itapplies to them. So really will
they'll feel a personalconnection. I think that Lacroix
would love every parasocialconnection that he's ever made

(29:52):
with anybody.

Matt (29:53):
Absolutely.

Rachel (29:54):
Yeah. Oh, you think I'm actually your daddy?

Matt (29:58):
Well, come on over.

Rachel (29:59):
Well, come on over. I have a surprise. It's death. The
surprise is death. I mean, yeah.
He is the world's oldest troll. That makes absolute sense. But
what he's vlogging about is he'scontinuing his winter rant about
how, she's left to be forsakenand alone and face the chill of

(30:22):
winter alone. Because he's like,Jeanette is alone. She's lonely.
She's frigid. She's frosty. It'swinter. I mean, come on. Okay.
We get it. Alright. She's, like, cold and lonely and she left
because she wanted to remaincold and lonely and she wasn't
feeling it anymore. And then wesee Jeanette, and she's sitting

(30:44):
in this car still listening toLaCroix. And she ends up getting
shot, like, the car gets shot upin a drive by.
And then we cut to Nick arrivingback at his house, which I
always love. The scenes of himcoming back to his house at
dawn, when he's got his littlesunglasses on.

Matt (30:59):
Yeah.

Rachel (31:00):
Which they're the same sunglasses, and we keep nothing
consistent. And yet, he's beenwearing the same sunglasses for,
1992 to 96. So, like, 4 to 5years, he's kept the same
sunglasses, and I fucking loveit. But he arrives at his house,
and he closes the blinds, andhe's wearing his, like, black

(31:22):
shirt, black trench coatcombination, and he's looking
particularly vampirish in thismoment. And he, once again takes
a moment to remember when he wasmaking out hardcore with
Jeanette after he got turnedinto a vampire.
He's like, that's not anunpleasant memory. And then,

(31:43):
surprise, she's standing rightbehind him. And this is when
she's wearing the jean jacketwhich she has tied at the waist,
like, where you take the bottomlapels and tie them in front of
you and a floor length floralskirt. So she has fully
metamorphosized into Janet, thehousewife.

Matt (32:08):
The soccer mom.

Rachel (32:09):
The soccer mom. There's nothing wrong with that. I am
technically a housewife. I workfor the podcast, and I work at
home, and I homeschool. And I'mlike, every single crunchy mom
checked the box, except I cuss alot, and I talk about vampires
on the Internet.
But so there's no shame. I alsodress like that. I'm wearing

(32:31):
sweatpants that have Care Bearson them right now, and, oh, my
Nightcrawler shirt. My, like How

Matt (32:35):
about that?

Rachel (32:36):
Yeah. My CER case merch shirt and my four XL sweater
that I got on clearance fromWalmart. So I literally do not
have a platform here. I justThere's

Matt (32:46):
no judgment.

Rachel (32:47):
There's no judgment here. It's just hysterical that
we went from

Matt (32:51):
It's the contrast.

Rachel (32:52):
We went from season 1, Jeanette, who was like sex on a
stick. Okay. It was stringy, well fitted, like, custom made
garments with, like, stellarhair and makeup and that
bisexual lighting in the Ravenwhere she was hiding behind
chains all the time. She waslike a goth icon, okay, in

(33:14):
season 1. Season 2, they werelike, maybe she started getting
perms.
I don't know. Like, it's justthe The

Matt (33:21):
death cloud?

Rachel (33:21):
Yeah. The death cloud, which was fine. She still looked
like Jennette, but she lookedlike a maybe Jennette got a
different stylist who hasn'tquite figured her hair out yet.

LaCroix (33:29):
Yeah.

Rachel (33:30):
And then to have her

LaCroix (33:31):
come back

Matt (33:31):
A little bit less fuck me energy

Rachel (33:44):
She looks like she looked incuriouser and curiouser
when she's the wife that hekeeps leaving at home Mhmm. So
he can go fuck badly. Yeah. Andthat's hysterical. It's just
like, why didn't we I don'tknow.
Because it's like she wasfundamentally changed by Bob. So

(34:04):
now she can't his name they shenever calls him Bob, but I think
it's hysterical that she fallsin love with a guy named Robert
more than Nick will ever know, apparently. But, anyway, here's
Janet. She's shown up wearingher outfit, And then she walks

(34:24):
over to talk to him, and we getthe spin filming where we spin
around them as they're talking, which we used to do every time
they made out. And now But now

Matt (34:34):
they're just talking.

Rachel (34:35):
Their reunion. And it's kinda sad because I miss when
this used to be them making out.Like, I miss the heavy fuck me
energy from season 1.

Matt (34:44):
Oh, yeah.

Rachel (34:45):
He felt like the, like, hot, like, sexy vampire in
season 1. And at this point,he's, like, sad, mature vampire,
and it's fine. I like alliterations, but sometimes I'm
like, no. I miss the raw, like, rawness, I guess, of season 1.
But he's like, Jeanette, I justgot a case about a murder.

(35:10):
And it's about a guy fromMontreal who got shot in a in a
hotel room, and she's like, yep. That was me. I I cute him. Oh
oh, I get where you're goingwith that. I did it.
And she goes, I am aware of theposition I put you in by being
here, but I need your help. Andhe's like, you could have just
run. She really could have. Imean, it's not like they could
trace her fingerprints oranything. She doesn't exist.

(35:32):
It's not like she went to thetrouble of having a full
identity created. And she goes,no. There is evidence that I
must find before whoever shot atme tonight finds it. And he
doesn't grab on to the whoevershot at me tonight. He's like
evidence?
I love stealing evidence. It'slike my favorite thing to do. I

(35:54):
can help you with that. So nowthat she's completely convinced
him by telling him he's allowedto steal, fondle, and abscond
with evidence, we go back toTracy at the station. And Reese
is like, where's your partner?
Is he not in yet? The sun isactually still up. So, Reese,
get it together.

LaCroix (36:09):
You can

Matt (36:10):
see it coming in the windows.

Rachel (36:11):
I mean, I know we haven't disregarded Nick's sun
allergy completely lately, so Iget it. But also, he does
actually have a documented sunallergy. There's, like, a reason
he doesn't come in when the sunis up. And Tracy says, okay.
Yeah.
But I got a report about a shotup car that was abandoned by the
Civic Center, and it wasregistered to a Montreal arson
investigator who was shot andkilled a week ago by the name of

(36:34):
Robert McDonough. And Reese islike, oh, do you think it's
linked? Oh, no. I think 2 randomarson investigators from
Montreal showed up in this. 1got murdered, then the other
showed up here and was in askeezy apartment and got
murdered, and I don't thinkthese two things are connected.
What the fuck do you think?

Matt (36:53):
Why do you think I told you?

Rachel (36:54):
Tracy just goes, maybe. Yeah. Maybe. And then we go back
to Jeanette and Nick, and thisis when Jeanette's waking up
because it's night now and theycan go out. And she's wearing
her button up sweater and herfloor length skirt.
Do you think that DeborahDuchene was like, I'll come
back, but I'm gonna wear my ownclothes?

Matt (37:14):
Maybe.

Rachel (37:14):
Yeah. Deborah, if you're listening, we all miss you, and
everybody wants to know whathappened to you. So, you know,
drop me a line. Just saying.Okay.
So I I get that we don't getthat question a lot, but that's
like everybody's question iswhat happened to Deborah. I
mean, I I get it. I get why youwould just be done and not stay

(37:35):
connected in any way. There's nothere's no imperative of
connection just because she's inthis television show 30 years
ago.

Matt (37:42):
Right.

Rachel (37:42):
But also, like, I don't know. I just hope she's still
okay. And Nick is like, well,I'm gonna book off work because
you promised me I could stealevidence, and that's what I
wanna do. So I'm gonna help youdo that. She goes, I mean, yeah,
but I did ditch you with noexplanation, and I'm kinda
sorry.
And Nick is like, did you reallyintend to never see me again?

LaCroix (38:06):
Yeah. I'll book off work. Oh. I said I'd help.
Shannette, tell me.
Did you really intend never tosee me again? No explanations.

Episode Quote (38:22):
I thought it was best.

LaCroix (38:25):
You were wrong.

Rachel (38:27):
Like, you were never gonna come back. You were never
gonna tell me why you left, andyou were never gonna see me
again? You ghosted me? Shefucking ghosted him, and he's
like, why? Why'd you do that?
And she goes, I thought it wasbest. I just I mean, that's what
he was gonna do to Natalie inBlack Buddha. He was just gonna
disappear.

Matt (38:44):
Yeah. And she's like Because he thought it was best.

Rachel (38:47):
Yeah. She's like, you were just gonna go. And he's
like, well, I kinda thought it'dbe the best thing for you. And
she's like, you mean for you. Itwas gonna be the best thing for
you, Nick.

Matt (38:57):
To be fair to Jeanette, she could she can just ghost him
for, like, 50 years

Rachel (39:02):
Yeah.

Matt (39:03):
And then, like, get a therapist. A vampire therapist
Yeah. To, like, re Restore her, more Ruthless qualities. Inhuman

(39:23):
perspective so that she can, like, maintain that distance
from humanity Right. And sustainit.

Rachel (39:32):
I mean, they're gonna run into each other again
eventually.

Matt (39:34):
And then and then she can come back and Yeah. Give Nick
something to sink his teethinto.

Rachel (39:43):
When Nick goes, you were wrong. It was not better. I did
not like it. I mean, maybe helearned that lesson from Natalie
because Natalie was, like, youmean it'd be easier for you. And
he's, like, oh, yeah.
I've never thought about thatbefore.

Matt (39:57):
Well, this isn't the first time Jeanette's just left him.

Rachel (40:00):
Right. Well, usually well, she gets caught. She got
caught when she, like, left himin neck ruffle era after they've
been married for 80 years, andthen he pouted. So I can see why
she left because last time hewas all, like, mom, I'm really
sorry. And he, like, sat in thewindow and, like, angry pouted
and looked out the window.

Matt (40:20):
So she she learned some lessons Yeah. And

Rachel (40:23):
She was like, I don't

Matt (40:24):
wanna the I don't wanna make

Rachel (40:26):
the face.

Matt (40:27):
If I

Rachel (40:27):
tell him he's gonna make the face, is that where am I
gonna be? Worse.

Matt (40:31):
This is kinda funny. Feel that about it.

Rachel (40:33):
I don't wanna see the face. And she goes, oh, Nicola.
I left because of you, becauseyour quest for humanity was
getting to me, was infecting me.

Matt (40:43):
It's contaminated.

Rachel (40:44):
And then she walks over and she has this monologue over
by the window. She's like, avampire's heart must be cold.
Death is all around us, but wemust not let it touch us. But
you, after 800 years, could nolonger live with your humanity.
I would have met I would imaginehe didn't want to live without
his humanity like a 100 yearsin, but that's fine.

(41:05):
That's fine. And I began tothink, you might be right. 800
years is a long time to have acold heart. And Nick is like, I
could have helped you. And shegoes, I didn't wanna be helped.
I liked my immortality. I wasafraid of all the suffering that
you've gone through. Look at theshit you have gone through. Look
at the shit Lacroix has put youthrough. Look at all of the pain

(41:29):
and torment and just shit.
You have dragged yourselfthrough. So I went to Montreal
because it's kinda like Paris, but it's not as far as Paris.
Oh, still. But it's

Matt (41:39):
not as far from family.

Rachel (41:41):
Yeah. And I thought I could, you know, revamparize
myself. Ala, Love Bites, whichis still one of my favorite
movies that we've watched. But Ifell into the same dilemma I
wanted to avoid. And he goes, what do you mean?
And she's like, well, I think weactually need to get going. Oh,

(42:01):
Jeanette.

Matt (42:02):
You drive.

Rachel (42:02):
The t's. And we find out that a Toronto real estate
developer was paying LaRouche toset fires, and then he gets to
collect, like, $50,000 in cashfor every fire he sets, and it's
in a locker.

Matt (42:16):
Falsifies the report on.

Rachel (42:17):
Yeah. And it's in a locker, and she has the key.
But, there you go. That's theentire reason why all of this is
happening. And Tracy, in themeanwhile, has found out that
Robert, the guy who owned thecar that got shot, has a sister
who lives in Oxbridge.
And he's like, maybe she says, maybe I'll go to the

Matt (42:39):
is near Toronto.

Rachel (42:41):
It's like a suburb. And she's like, I think I'll go and
talk to her, and maybe we canfigure out if these two things
are connected. Oh, yeah. Goodjob, Tracy. It turns out when
Nick isn't there, Tracy actuallydoes police work for Theo.
And we go back to Jeanette, andJeanette is saying that,
LaRouche framed a, quote, friendof hers, and now she needs to

(43:04):
prove his innocence. And Nick islike, okay. So you killed a guy,
and now you're gonna find theevidence to clear your friend.
How humanitarian of you. Yeah.
That sounds that was exactly theway you should have gone about
this, Jeanette. And she goes,Nicola, I don't need your
sarcasm. I need your help.

LaCroix (43:27):
Such a humanitarian gesture.

Episode Quote (43:29):
Nicola, I don't need your sarcasm. I need your
help. You're not unaccustomed totaking injustices into your own
hands.

Matt (43:35):
Alright. Alright.

Rachel (43:37):
I love that why. Good life. I don't need any of your
shit right now. I need yourhelp, and you aren't
unaccustomed to taking justiceinto your own hands. And he's
like, touche.
Yeah. You are correct. I thinkin the last couple of episodes,
at least twice, he's been like, well, I think I can just solve

(43:58):
this problem. So I'm just gonnasolve this problem. So he
doesn't have a leg to stand onwhen it comes to don't do it.
Don't do what you think is best.Let the law handle this. We go
back to Tracy, and Tracy goes tosee Robert's sister. And she
tells him her love how looselyattached to pronouns I am. And

(44:20):
she tells her that Robert'sgirlfriend, Jeanette de Brabant
She kept his name.
She kept his name, is in townhis middle name.

Matt (44:38):
Nicholas b Knight.

Rachel (44:39):
Nicholas b Knight. And that he's in town for she's in
town for a few days, and shewent to go see her brother.
Jeanette is. And so she doesn'tknow who her brother is, but
that she's off visiting him andPatrick might know more. And
then we come back to Nick andJeanette in the car.
And Nick is like, well, you knowI have to ask. Like, who's the

(45:00):
friend? I'm not jealous oranything, but I just wanna know
who's the friend. And Jeanettesays, well, his name was Robert
McDonough and I was in love withhim more than you can possibly
imagine. And this hurts forseveral reasons.
One, it implies that she wasnever as madly in love with Nick

(45:24):
as she was with this dude thatshe met.

Matt (45:26):
This random human.

Rachel (45:27):
This random that she met like 6 months ago. Yeah. Just
fair, I guess. I don't know.Sometimes you click.
They clicked. Her and Bob, theyjust hit it off, I guess. And it
also implies that no matter howmuch Nick thinks he might love

(45:48):
Natalie, it ain't the same.

Matt (45:51):
Well, Jeanette may not know how Nick actually feels
about Natalie.

Rachel (45:57):
No. She's not implying that. No. The show is implying
to us. The show narrative islike, Jennette loved this dude.
She took a chance and had sexwith him, and it ended up making
her human.

Matt (46:10):
Right.

Rachel (46:11):
Nick has loved Natalie. Well, we assume, or at least
Natalie has loved Nick or someversion thereof with affection
for the last

Matt (46:19):
With affection.

Rachel (46:21):
For the last, like, 4 years, however long they've been
together at this point. And hehas never loved her enough to
take the to take a chance onbeing with her? Yeah. Yeah.
Although, how much couldJeanette have loved this guy if
she was willing to be with himand then maybe kill him?
Because there was a very realpossibility that she was gonna

(46:42):
kill him.

Matt (46:42):
Right. She has mentioned several times through the series
that, she doesn't have therestraint Yeah. To not

Rachel (46:53):
She's thirsty.

Matt (46:54):
What was it about I think it was about turning.

Rachel (46:57):
Yeah. She's she's too much the glutton.

Matt (46:59):
And she said she's never done it because she doesn't have
enough restraint to stop Yeah. Before the person is completely
dead. And so she's literallynever been able to stop. And
then she's like, oh, man, thisguy I love this guy. I'm gonna

(47:21):
I'm gonna get with him.

Rachel (47:22):
I'm gonna shoot my shot.

Matt (47:23):
I'm I'm gonna try it. Yep. I'm gonna try just taking a a
nip. Yeah.

Rachel (47:29):
And it works. Perfectly willing to accept the risk that
he might die. I mean, this is,you know

Matt (47:36):
It's very Jeanette.

Rachel (47:37):
It's fine. It's very Jeanette. It's very Jeanette.
It's not very Janet, but it'svery Jeanette. So it's cool.
Like, I don't have a problemwith this. I just wanna point
out that this narrative is justthe tiniest little bit
inconsistent. But that's, Imean, it's the show. So Yeah.
Cheesy rationalization, here wego.
And so she tells Nick, thatRobert had a son, and she cannot

(48:01):
allow his son to think that he'sa criminal and that she's
actually his official guardian. So she's mom Janet.

LaCroix (48:07):
Yeah.

Rachel (48:08):
Then we come back and Tracy's talking to Patrick. I
love how independent Tracy getsto be in this episode and how
much of, like, a solid partnershe gets to be because she
figures out almost immediatelythat Nick is up to shenanigans,
and then she covers for him

Matt (48:22):
Yeah.

Rachel (48:23):
Without knowing anything about what this is about. So
Tracy is talking to Patrick, andPatrick says, Jeanette said
they're here to visit herbrother, Nicholas. She could
have lied. She could have been, like, I'm here to visit my
brother,

Matt (48:40):
Steve,

Rachel (48:40):
and says that he has a picture. And she's like, well,
can I see the picture? And soPatrick hops up the stairs
happily, Galen being excited tobe on the set with his dad, and
pulls out a picture thatJeanette gave him. And it's like
a glamour shot where Nick issideways and Jeanette is face
on, and I want I'm so confused.I wanna recreate this picture

(49:02):
with you so fucking bad.
I think we could manage it. Ithink we could make this happen.
I just need you to, like, stoically turn sideways. I might
need you to shave, though, somaybe this isn't the thing I'll
we're gonna do soon because youknow how I feel about you clean
shave, and how our son feelsabout you clean shaven. Matt

(49:24):
threatened to trim his beard andour son was like, no, dad, like,
don't don't trim your beard.
And I had to, like, walk himthrough. I'm only gonna cut the
sides, and I'm gonna trim underhere, and I'm gonna trim right
here. And he's like, well,that's acceptable. You're
allowed to do that. And it'slike a black and white with Nick
in profile and then Jennettestraight on.
It's like an album cover. It'slike they're about to drop a

(49:46):
jazz, like a ska album.

Matt (49:48):
They're about to drop

Rachel (49:50):
a ska album. That's what it looks like. And then we come
back to Nick and Jeanette, andthey're at some kind of thing
that I probably am supposed toknow what it is because I'm
probably supposed to knowToronto and landmarks, and I
don't know what this is. Butthis stairwell is really cool,
and we end up walking down thesestairs. And the camera is at the

(50:11):
bottom.
And it's a really cool shot ofthem coming down the stairs. And
while they're walking down,Jeanette is talking about how
she met Bob. And it turns outthat firefighter Bob barged in
and swept her off her feetliterally because her house was
on fire and he rescued her. And,we know that fire bad, so she

(50:31):
was pretty much helpless in thatmoment and he saved her life.
And then she says, I envied hiscourage, his selflessness, the
same thing that I mocked yourelentlessly for for years.
You know how you could have justdone nothing and fucked around

(50:51):
and been a playboy, but youchose to try to help people and
you became a cop and you becamea public servant and you risked
your life day after day to tryto save people from bad guys?
And I told you you were afucking idiot? Well, Bob did it,
but Bob was I liked the way Bobdid it.

Matt (51:08):
Bob did it better.

Rachel (51:09):
Bob did it better. Well, she says, he reminded me of you,
and I realized you were right.

Episode Quote (51:18):
Mortal risking his one short life to save
others. I envied his courage, his mortality. He reminded me a
few. It was through him that Irealized that your quest to
become mortal again is right.

LaCroix (51:37):
It's strange hearing that coming from you.

Rachel (51:41):
And Nick takes a minute, and he's like, wow. I, I never
thought I would hear those wordsfrom fucking anybody, not from
Lacroix, not from you. He mustfeel so validated in that moment
because he has fought the goodfight for so many years, and
then all of a sudden everyonethe one person who mercilessly

(52:04):
mocked his crusade was finally, like, you know what? I think you
might have a point. And he'sjust, like, wow.
I need a minute. Hold on. Igotta but Jeanette says he and I
were together. As soon as hesaved me, that was it. We were
together after that.
And he ended up gettingtransferred to the arson squad

(52:24):
because he got injured the nighthe saved me. And Nick says, did
you tell him what you were? Andthen we get this flashback to
her telling this tale toPatrick. And she's

Matt (52:35):
about Napoleon.

Rachel (52:36):
She's already wearing jeans and a sweater, so she's
already started hertransformation

Matt (52:39):
into pants. The same sweater.

Rachel (52:41):
I think it's the same sweater. And it's about Napoleon
and his sister, and her sistersmelled like herring, and she
used to beat Napoleon up. Anddon't underestimate a woman's
strength and blah blah blah. Andthen the kid goes to bed and
Robert's like, so Napoleon'ssister smelled, She's like,
yeah. Terrible.
Everybody smelled back then. Andshe he goes, wow. You just you

(53:03):
tell those stories like you wereactually there. And she's like,
what if I were to do?

Matt (53:07):
I was.

Rachel (53:10):
And he's like, what are you saying? And she's like, come
sit by me on the couch, and thenshe does this like, put your
hand on my boob. Well, actually, she says, I have some secrets,
And he's like, oh, Everybody hasa deep dark past. And she's
like, I mean, yes. But also,there's a past and there's a

(53:37):
past.
And, you know how you've neverseen me in the day and you've
never seen me eat and, wehaven't had sex. And he goes,
now that I've noticed.

Matt (53:49):
Fair.

Rachel (53:50):
Fair. Yeah. No. That's fair. And she's like, okay.
Come over here. Put your hand onmy heart. And he's like, oh,
yeah. We're about to remedy oneof those things. And then she's
like, what do you feel?
And he's like, oh my god.Fucking nothing. You don't have
a heartbeat. And she's like,meh. Yeah.
I mean, then how did Nick have aheartbeat in night in question

(54:10):
when he was at the hospital andhe was on the heart monitor?

Matt (54:14):
LaCroix was there.

Rachel (54:15):
Apparently, there's some, like, daily slash shooting
notes where there was a scenewhere Natalie put, like, a tape
recorder on a

Matt (54:25):
Oh, really?

Rachel (54:25):
Monitor to make it seem like he had a heartbeat. Anyway

Matt (54:32):
I figured, either Natalie or Lacroix intervened to fake
Fake.

Rachel (54:38):
Fake. Well, they did, theoretically. It just wasn't a
scene that made it into thewhatever. So Into

Matt (54:44):
the episode.

Rachel (54:44):
There was a attempt where attempts were made to be
consistent here. But, anyway, she doesn't have a heartbeat,
and then she does the, like, eyereveal, the, like, look at my
green eyes. Yep. And then we cutback to the present, and Nick
goes, how did he take it?

LaCroix (55:07):
How'd he take it?

Rachel (55:10):
I love it. It's like, woo.

Matt (55:12):
I've been there. That?
I've been there. I've done
that a bunch of times.

Rachel (55:16):
And, you know, he just had a rush of, like, the last 18
times that happened and, 17 outof 18 times somebody just tried
to stake him and run him off. That's one of my okay. So just a
minor segue. So in Being Human, the American version, there's a
scene there's a part where thevampire character, Aiden, ends

(55:37):
up, like, falling in love orstarting to date this human
woman. And there's a part wherehe they they're getting serious
enough that he needs to comeclean.
And so he tells her he's avampire, and she's like, get the
fuck out. And he's like, well, II love you. And she's like,
nope. Nope. Nope.
We aren't doing this. This isn'tfucking Twilight. Get the fuck

(55:58):
out of my house. And she breaksup with him, and she never talks
with him again.

Matt (56:02):
Yeah.

Rachel (56:02):
And it's my favorite because every single time this
trope pops up, it's always, oh,okay. Well, we all have our
problems. You know, it's notlike, holy shit. Wait. You're a
serial killer?
Get the fuck out of my house. You knowingly put me in danger
by being with me? How can youpossibly love me if that's the

(56:24):
case? Get out. I mean, you haveto I mean, I'm I am here for
vampire romance, but you justhave to question the type of
person that's, like, well, howbad could they be?
I mean, they need to eat people.

Matt (56:36):
He seems like a really
good guy.

Rachel (56:38):
He seems like he's trying

Matt (56:43):
so hard.

Rachel (56:43):
I was but, anyway, I just wanna point that out, but
he I love the And she goes, well, it was a long night, but
love, as they say, conquers all.Oh, what a low blow. Like

Matt (57:01):
Right.

Rachel (57:01):
If I'd loved you enough, Nick, we could've worked it out.
But

Matt (57:06):
or I
don't know. Or the
the trope of, like, here's this thing that the guy has just
struggled and constantly failedevery attempt to do this thing.
And then the lady is like, oh,yeah. I tried it once and it

(57:27):
worked. Like, it's hard.

Rachel (57:28):
What? Like, it's hard? I don't know why you haven't tried
just falling deeply, madly, andpassionately in love with
somebody. Oh, he does that to,like, every female costar, and
it still hasn't fucking worked.I don't know what you're doing.
What? It kinda reminds me of inShe Hulk when Bruce Banner is
trying to talk to

Matt (57:48):
his cousin

Rachel (57:49):
about how to control it.

Matt (57:51):
He's like explaining about how to control your anger.

Rachel (57:55):
Yeah. And she's like, oh, okay. And she just turns
into She Hulk and then turnsback into a human. He's like,
how'd you do that? He's like shesays, I'm a woman.
I've been having to control myanger my entire life.

LaCroix (58:05):
Yeah.

Rachel (58:06):
Yeah. I loved loved how easy it was for her to be She
Hulk because everything he hadto learn is just something that
women have to do constantly.

Matt (58:14):
Yep.

Rachel (58:15):
Like, women are always at a low boil always because
we're just waiting for somebodyto try shit. Like, we're waiting
for the mansplainer or we'rewaiting like, you're in defense
mode a lot when you're outbecause you're expecting to
encounter someone who wants tostart something. And it's not
like start something necessarilylike aggression, but, like, I

(58:38):
don't know. There's a lot of menwho are 1 breath away from
trying to treat you like achild.

LaCroix (58:43):
Mhmm.

Rachel (58:44):
And so you always have to be sort of ready for that.
Anyway, I like that. But loveconquers all. And Bob, she loved
Bob. So Bob said he wanted to beBob apparently found out about
the LaRouche thing, and so hedecided he wanted to try to bust
them.
So he tricked LaRouche intothinking that he was in on it,

(59:06):
And LaRouche was like, cool.Cool. Let me go ahead and
monologue my entire plan to you.So he revealed everything, and
Jeanette's like, wait. Hetorched my building?
Because, of course, she'slistening on the other side of
this glass wall that nobody cansee her on the other side of.
Yeah. It's fine. And LaRouche islike, you could retire early.

(59:27):
Spend all your time with Janet.
Get her some sun. He goes, youknow, that one could use some
sun. Like, get the fuck out ofhere. Now I hate LaRouche. I
wanna kill him too.
But, apparently, Bobunderestimated how ruthless
LaRouche was, and Nick goes, yep. It's a common mistake.
Like, you don't this guy isliterally torching buildings and

(59:49):
potentially killing people, andhe doesn't give a shit, and you
didn't know that this guy wouldabsolutely kill you in cold
blood. Yeah. But maybe Bob wasthe kind of guy who believed in
the best in people, and so hejust didn't see it.
Right. He wasn't as street smartas, like, Jeanette would have
been. So they're finally at thislike, they're at the bottom of

(01:00:10):
the stairs. This has gotten usto the bottom of the stairs and
over to this locker, whichthere's, like, 2 sets of lockers
over here. And, they're gettingtrailed through the building by
the most obvious mob guys I haveever seen.

Matt (01:00:22):
Yes. Absolutely.

Rachel (01:00:24):
They're, like, 10 feet away with binoculars. It's like
the worst. Looking in the

Matt (01:00:28):
trash can.

Rachel (01:00:33):
And, of course, they get shot at. They try to run.
They're like, Nick goes, I thinkwe're being watched. Because
they're like, it's like a, aPink Panther comedy where, like,
the the bad guy's, like, 5 feetaway, and he's, like, crouched
behind a potted plant that isway too small for him to hide
behind. And Nick is, like, Ithink we're being watched.
And so they take off, and theguys follow them. So they start
running. So the guys startrunning. And then they end up

(01:00:56):
getting shot at. And, of course,Nick is fine because he's a
vampire, but Jeanette is like

Matt (01:01:01):
It's not until this moment that Nick realizes Look.
Jeanette is human. Look. He'sdistracted.

Rachel (01:01:07):
We haven't

Matt (01:01:08):
mentioned He's preoccupied.

Rachel (01:01:09):
Haven't mentioned Nick the Brick in a while, but he's
it's a very brick move to belike, well, it's Jeanette.
Jeanette's a vampire. I don'tneed to check-in on this. Oh,
what's that heartbeat? Whoknows?
Maybe she's wearing a recorder,like a heartbeat recorder. Yeah.
Like in, Gattaca when he'swearing that heartbeat monitor

(01:01:31):
that makes it sound like hisheart isn't racing. Yeah.
Exactly like that.
I don't know. It doesn't matter,but she's like, oh, yeah. By the
way, I'm mortal. And he's likecan you imagine his feelings in
that moment? He has fought for100 of years to try to be mortal
again, and she did it by fuckingaccident.

(01:01:53):
Yeah. Yeah. She got a family.

Matt (01:01:58):
She got everything that Nick has been pursuing

Rachel (01:02:02):
Yeah.

Matt (01:02:02):
For 100 of years.

Rachel (01:02:04):
True love, a family. She got to be mortal again. And here
she is throwing it all the fuckaway. It has got

Matt (01:02:14):
For vengeance.

Rachel (01:02:15):
For vengeance. It has got to be, like, a fucking slap
in the face, and he takes it instride. He's like, no. Okay. I'm
gonna get you some help.
Oh, okay. Let's go help you now.Like, oh, yeah.

Matt (01:02:27):
Here he goes into a dental and distress mode.

Rachel (01:02:29):
Yeah. He goes into daddy daddy Nick mode, literally,
eventually. They get chased bysecurity. Like, security shows
up, and, of course, they're,like, crouched to the bottom of
the stairwell, and, Janet isbleeding. And she's dropped this
notebook, and we actually didn'tpick the notebook up between
takes.
It's still on the escalator. SoI don't know if this notebook

(01:02:51):
was supposed to be important atone point, and we just ditched
it.

Matt (01:02:54):
Yeah.

Rachel (01:02:55):
It doesn't matter. But, he ends up flying off with
Jeanette. Like, they break outand he's like he's like, hug me,
and then they fly off. And theygo straight to Natalie's, and
Nick walks in and he's like,Natalie, I need a favor. And she
goes, that makes me nervousbecause favors from you entail a
little more than just can Iborrow your car?

(01:03:15):
And Nick goes, yeah. And I'mgonna need that too.

Matt (01:03:19):
Hey. You just missed some of my best work. That is if
you're into post mortem cranialexaminations.

LaCroix (01:03:24):
Nat, I need a favor.

Matt (01:03:27):
Thanks, Jill.

Rachel (01:03:29):
No problem.

Episode Quo (01:03:30):
Makes me nervous. Favors for you usually include a
little more than can I borrowyour car?

LaCroix (01:03:34):
I'll need that too.

Rachel (01:03:37):
And then he brings in Jeanette. And this has to you
want you want a slap in the facefrom earlier? This has to feel
like a slap in the face face forNatalie. Because, finally, his
vampire side piece was out ofthe picture, and surprise, she
is both back, and she gotexactly what they have both been
working for this entire timewithout ever really wanting it.

(01:04:01):
Yeah.
Yeah. And so I'm sure Natalie islike, no. No. But to her credit,
she's like, okay. Lay it out.
What am I doing here? Becauseback at the place where they got
shot, immediately, Reese andTracy are both here. I don't

(01:04:24):
know why this doesn't have anyobvious connection to the
LaRouche slash Robert McDonoughcase. So why and there's no
homicide? Have nobody died here?
Just people

Matt (01:04:36):
that shot up? Yeah.

Rachel (01:04:37):
So I don't know why they're there, but they're
there. Maybe because it outsidethis building is where that car
got shot up.

Matt (01:04:43):
Maybe.

Rachel (01:04:44):
Yeah. And, security the security guard is standing with
Reese, and Reese holds out thepicture, the picture of
Jeanette. And he's like, do youknow who this is? And the lady
goes, a lady looks like that? You remember her.
Feels like a dick. It it itfeels like, remember how you

(01:05:08):
said she wasn't pretty enough tobe in this, and you were fucking
delusional? You were in theLululean when you said that?
Well, lady looks like that. Youdon't forget her.
Thank you, security guard.Agree. Okay.

Matt (01:05:23):
Sure.

Rachel (01:05:23):
And Reese goes, okay. And then Tracy, walks over, and
she's like, well, they said herfriend was tall, blonde, dark
coat, answered to the name ofNicholas, no idea who he could
be. She knows exactly who thisfucking is because she already
has that picture. She alreadyknows that Nick is helping.

Matt (01:05:43):
She's carrying around a photocopy of it.

Rachel (01:05:46):
Yeah. Yep. Yeah. And she goes, well, we have our eyes on
the hospital. If they show upthere, we'll find out.
And Reese goes, do you get thefeeling this is way more
complicated than we thought? Andthen he turns to walk away, and
Tracy goes, captain. And heturns around, and she goes, you
know what? Never mind. Tracy didnot have to do this.

(01:06:08):
Nick has been

Matt (01:06:08):
Cover for Nick.

Rachel (01:06:09):
Pretty shitty to her in the last couple of episodes. And
then all of a sudden, she'swilling to cover for him. And I
respect her deeply for this, butshe doesn't know his side of
this, and she's waiting tofigure out what his side of this
is. She never gets to find out.

Matt (01:06:25):
Well, but she trusts that Nick will maybe explain it to
her?

Rachel (01:06:29):
Yeah. Or at least that what he's doing is the right
thing.

Matt (01:06:32):
Right.

Rachel (01:06:32):
That he wouldn't do it if it wasn't the right thing.
Her trust is completelymisplaced, but it is there, and
it exists. And then we go backto Natalie, and Natalie calls
out Nick for involving her inthis cover up of Jennette's
crime. So not only did thevampire who has consistently
treated you, quote, withaffection, bring his long lost

(01:06:55):
vampire paramour here to seeyou, but she's also committed a
crime which you are activelyinvolved in covering up, and now
you're asking Natalie to giveher medical care. That's a lot.
That's a lot. And Jeanette goes,I'm sorry I got you involved.
And Natalie goes, howcomforting.

Episode Quo (01:07:18):
Now I don't want anyone getting me wrong here. I
think that we all know that I'mnot exactly against vampires
regaining their mortality. Buthow the hell are we gonna
explain this? You're protectinga murder suspect. Correction.
Confessed killer, and here I amsewing her up. And what?
Forgetting to file a report?

LaCroix (01:07:36):
Nah. Take it easy.

Episode Quo (01:07:37):
Oh, I would love to take it easy, Nick.

Rachel (01:07:39):
I'm sorry

Episode Quote (01:07:41):
and get you both involved.

Episode Quo (01:07:44):
How comforting.

Rachel (01:07:46):
Like, fucking thank you. I really appreciate the sorry.
That's gonna save me when IAcomes to figure out why I gave
you medical treatment when Ishould have been turning you in.
I have to imagine Natalie isquietly raging. I would be
quietly raging.
And Jeanette tells them that sheknew she was going to be mortal

(01:08:06):
the first time they made love.

Matt (01:08:09):
Oh, yeah. She knew the transformation was possible.

Rachel (01:08:12):
This whole reveal feels

Matt (01:08:19):
So It's

Rachel (01:08:20):
like twisting a fucking knife is what it is.

Matt (01:08:23):
Jeanette walking in is stabbing Natalie.

Rachel (01:08:26):
Yeah. Right in the heart. In the with affection.
Right?

Matt (01:08:30):
Yeah.

Rachel (01:08:30):
Phew. Right there.

Matt (01:08:31):
And then the story of how it happened, I knew the
transformation was possible. Thefirst time we made love, twist.

Rachel (01:08:40):
And then we cut to a, like, a flashback of Jennette in
this little silky thing. I don'tknow. And I guess they're
supposed to be, like, makinglove in front of the fire, which
feels on brand. It's fine. Andthen she bites him, and she
stops.
And then Jeanette goes into thismonologue in front of Natalie
and Nick where she's, like, hisblood and his dick were both

(01:09:01):
inside me. You know thatfeeling, Nicholas. It's unlike
anything a mortal canexperience, and it's just like
rubbing it in. Like, oh, youwouldn't understand, Natalie,
but there's this

Matt (01:09:16):
That she's squirting, rubbing alcohol in the lemon
juice.

Rachel (01:09:20):
Right there. Right right in the face. Because she's like,
you wouldn't understand what itfeels like, but there's this
really erotic moment after youfeed on somebody when you can,
like, feel them inside yourbody? And it's just like, oh my
god. Like, I can't explain it toyou.
And Nick's over there like, please stop. And she goes, blood

(01:09:40):
calms our hunger, but his calmedmy heart and made me feel warm
inside. Like, it calmed myvampire. And Natalie's just
standing there, like, ew, godfucking damn it. Like, I just
hate everything about this.
And then she's like, every timewe made love, which was, like,

(01:10:01):
oh my god, like, all the time, like, just so much sex, so much
incredible sex. And I justneeded less and less each time,
and I just knew we were meant tobe. And Natalie is like, are you
telling me it was fucking fate?It was fate? And all it took was

(01:10:23):
a fated mate and a littlerestraint.
That is all that is required tobecome human. Fuck you. She's so
upset. This has to feel so like, and Nick is just back there,
like, do I love Natalie thatmuch? Can I am I worth is it is
am I willing to take thatchance?

(01:10:43):
Because I I could probablyconvince her to take that
chance. Do I feel like I wantto?

Matt (01:10:48):
All they'd have to do is hook up

LaCroix (01:10:51):
Yeah.

Matt (01:10:51):
And then he has to drink some of her blood.

Rachel (01:10:53):
Yeah. And And if he it's 5050. Either I kill you and it
doesn't work, or I don't killyou. And huzzah. Look at that.

Matt (01:11:01):
Well, and he's Nick has demonstrated that he has the
ability to restrain himself.Yeah. And so he he could even
prepare Natalie, like, hey, ifI'm, you know, if I'm not
stopping,

Rachel (01:11:20):
like Stake me in the heart.

Matt (01:11:22):
Like, pull out the cross from behind your back or
whatever.

Rachel (01:11:25):
Squirt me in the face with garlic juice?

Matt (01:11:26):
Yeah.
Got Here's some holy water
in a spray bottle.
Like, let's just give me a give me a spritz before I go too
far if I don't let go. And thenright. Pretty pretty safe
chance. And then at leastNatalie gets a chance. Yeah.

(01:11:48):
And Nick can find out, okay. DoI feel like my vampire is being
calmed or not?

Rachel (01:11:54):
This feels like the expert level version of let's go
out on a date and see if itworks. And if it doesn't, we can
just go back to being friends, which is always a lie. You can
never go back to being friends.Mhmm. I feel like as soon as
Nick bit her and tried to useher as a way to become human by
using his love for her to warmhis cold dead heart.

(01:12:16):
How do you go back when thatdoesn't work?

Matt (01:12:19):
Yeah.

Rachel (01:12:21):
Yeah. It it's like the most final end to will they,
won't they ever. So I can kindasee why he's not willing to take
that chance because he wouldlose every part of Natalie even
if he didn't kill her.

Matt (01:12:36):
Right. And is it his love well, was it Jeanette's love for
Bob, or is it Bob's love forJeanette?

Rachel (01:12:45):
I don't know. But there was actually more, which every
they kinda forget about. But atthe very end, she says, no.
There was one more thing, andit's them walking, And then he
gets shot, and she tries tobring him over, but it doesn't
work. So she ends up

LaCroix (01:13:01):
She screams

Rachel (01:13:01):
and rings. Taking the last of his, like, life

LaCroix (01:13:05):
Yeah.

Rachel (01:13:05):
Because she's trying to change him, and it doesn't work.
And she goes, it's as though 800years, because we forgot she's a
1000 years old, of repressionhad bubbled up all at once, and
I thought I was going to die.And I kinda did wanna die, but
instead I just became mortal. And then she says, but the
killer lingered lingered. Thekiller lingered until I killed

(01:13:26):
La Roosh.
But now I'm free of it. AndNatalie, chucks a pill bottle at
her face and is like, that localanesthetic will wear off in
about an hour. Take these. Getthe fuck out, because they get a
she gets a phone call, andthey're coming to pick some
stuff up from the morgue, somebody else, because she
doesn't just exist for Nick'sconvenience. And so they gotta

(01:13:48):
go because if they can't getcaught here.
So Jeanette thanks Natalie, andNatalie's like, you're welcome.
Like, please just leave. I'vethis is the worst day of my
life. And then she's like, Itotally will, but not until I
call Peggy to check on Patrick. And so she walks over and picks

(01:14:11):
up Natalie's phone, does notask, just picks up Natalie's
phone and calls Peggy.
And, uh-oh, the bad guys are atPeggy's house, and they want the
key. Remember the world's worththat world's worst bad guys?
They got done looking in thetrash cans, and now they
actually just went and gothostages. So they end up driving

(01:14:31):
off in Natalie's Taurus for alittle, like I mean, her car got
wrecked, like, 3 times for theshow. So I'm sure after a while,
she accumulated enough insurancemoney to buy herself a nice car.
And Jeanette is like, oh my god. These people are terrible. I'm
so worried because they willkill anyone who suits them just
like we used to. Meanwhile, wego back to Tracy, and Tracy has

(01:14:56):
tracked Natalie down at themorgue. And she's, like, I need
advice on Nick.
I think he's involved in amurder, or I think he's at least
involved with a murder suspect. And so she holds up this
picture, which is very obviouslyNick. Yeah. And here she goes,
is that Natalie goes, is thatNick? I don't know.
I I can't I can't see. It'skinda blurry. And Tracy goes,

(01:15:20):
yeah. And Patrick says that he'sthis Jeanette woman's brother.
And Natalie goes, oh, well, thenit's obviously not Nick because
Nick doesn't have any family.
He he doesn't have any family atall. And Tracy's like, Natalie,
you know something. And shegoes, yeah. I know Nick, And I'm
not in a good place with thatright now, but I do know that
Nick always tries to do theright thing.

Matt (01:15:42):
Right. Tries to do what he thinks is the right thing.

Rachel (01:15:46):
Yes. Yeah. And is it what is actually right, or is it
simply what he perceives isright? Mhmm. Dot dot dot.
And so they end up showing up atthe house. Jeanette, Janet, and
Nick show up at the house, andthey walk in. They don't know

(01:16:07):
who the blonde guy is. So butthey don't question Nick's
presence at all. And they're,like, we had a deal.
You need to untie them.

Matt (01:16:15):
Well, if they talk to Peggy, then they would know
Peggy. Brother, I guess. Janetwas here to see her brother.

Rachel (01:16:21):
Yeah. Well, she calls her Shanette, but Janet's
funnier. And then they're, like, key. No. Untie him.
Key. No. Untie him. We go backand forth a little bit. And then
Nick ends up pulling out the keyand chucks it on the table, and
they're like, thanks.
Pew pew. And they shoot Jeanetteand Nick, and then they hand
off, like, an electric car key.And then they end up pushing the
button and a couple of bombsexplode, and then the house is

(01:16:42):
on fire. So I think shitescalates really quickly. Yeah.
We go from, like, exchange thehostages to, like, pew pew,
fuck, I'm dead, and then thewhole house is on fire. Hostages
to, like, pew pew, fuck, I'mdead, and then the whole house
is on fire. And Nick runs over.Okay. There are 2 human beings
tied to chairs in the middle ofthis blazing inferno, and Nick
is, like, let me check on Janet.
So he goes over and checks onJeanette. He's like, Jeanette,

(01:17:04):
are you okay? And she has totell him to go save the humans.
She's like

Matt (01:17:10):
Yeah.

Rachel (01:17:10):
Fucking go save them first.

Matt (01:17:13):
I could I'm saving a human right now.

Rachel (01:17:15):
My my son, your literal son and my metaphorical son are
right over there. And your, Iguess, sister-in-law, I don't
know how is over there. Like, your sister-in-law slash slash I
don't know what if Jeanette washis wife. Sister-in-law.
Sister-in-law both ways.
Yeah. So your sister-in-lawtwice is over there. Go, please.

(01:17:35):
Save them first. And so Nick is,like, fucking fine.
So he goes over there and heends up untying both of them,
and he's, like, Patrick, I'mmaking you the man of this
rescue. You have to get youraunt out of here. And Patrick's
like, oh, okay. I I can do this. And he's like, you can do this.
Get her out of here. I'm notgonna help you. You can figure

(01:17:56):
this out.

Matt (01:17:56):
Okay.

Rachel (01:17:57):
You got this. Okay, mister Nick. And so the he ends
up getting his aunt out. Well,Jeanette's, like, bleeding out
on the couch and Nick is, like,I can bring you across. And
she's, like, no.
Honestly, please don't. Like, this was a once in a lifetime
opportunity. Let me just letthis end. Bob is gone. Life
isn't worth living.

(01:18:17):
And Nick is like, no. Please, let me change you. It's fine.
Like, I got this. I've I'vepracticed a couple of times.
I'm pretty sure I can do this.And she's like, please don't
change me. And then Nick doesthis like, where he like rears
back.

Matt (01:18:32):
A little like roar.

Rachel (01:18:33):
I don't hate this. I don't hate this. I don't hate
his, like, vampire roar offrustration that he gets in the
middle of the fire while his exparamour, who became a human
when he wanted to be a human, isdying and doesn't seem to care.
I mean, I get it. And then wecut to this really weird dream,
and it's Natalie in the freezerroom.

(01:18:54):
And she's, like, I got the testresults back. It was the beta
blockers and the norepinephrine, and it's true. And, we have
proof positive because we'regonna have a baby. And Nick,
like, runs over to her and theyturn towards the camera and they
have, like, their cheeks pressedtogether. Goofing kisses.
Smiling, like, yes. And then thephone rings, and it's Reese, and

(01:19:17):
he wakes him up. So he getswoken up from this, like, we're
gonna have a baby.

Matt (01:19:23):
Wonderful dream.

Rachel (01:19:24):
Yeah. And we find out that there's a double homicide.
And so he goes to the to theplace where the double homicide
is, which surprise, surprise, isright by these lockers. And he's
chatting with Tracy, and shesays, she just wants to hear
that it was the right thing andthat it's not Whatever

Matt (01:19:44):
he was doing.

Rachel (01:19:46):
Isn't going to come back to haunt us. Is whatever you did
gonna come back to haunt us? Andhe's like, nope. And then he
looks over at the 2 men thatJeanette just killed, which are
like over on the ground, whichfeels like a haunting
consequence to me Yeah. If everthere was one.

(01:20:07):
Yeah. And poor Patrick, He lostJeanette. He lost his dad. And
now he's just with his auntPeggy, and that's it. So poor
Patrick.
He's actually lost more familythan Natalie has. Yeah. And Nick
tries to talk to Natalie aboutthe love cure at this crime

(01:20:29):
scene. She is at work, and he's,like, so about that thing where,
Jeanette had sex with that guy,and it made her human. I've been
I've been thinking about it alot, and I don't wanna risk you.
I don't wanna risk ourfriendship, our just friends
forever ship. And Natalie'slike, I mean, okay. Yeah. I

(01:20:51):
mean, I keep telling myself, those were extraordinary
circumstances, and we can'tpossibly hope to reproduce them.
And, like, I get it.
Okay. Fine. Fine. Fine. Fine.
And then she's, like, actually,we have a bigger problem right
now. And she, like, tips thehead to the side, and there's
clearly fang marks on this guy'sneck. And they're like, yeah.

(01:21:11):
She he was killed by a vampire. And these are the weirdest angle
fang marks.
I just

Matt (01:21:16):
Okay. I was thinking if the vampire was behind the
person and tilted their head tothe side That

Rachel (01:21:23):
would work.

Matt (01:21:24):
Then that's how the fang marks would line up. And

Rachel (01:21:27):
Let's go with that.

Matt (01:21:28):
And we've seen in a lot of flashbacks, that's how Lacroix,
Jeannette, and Nick typically

Rachel (01:21:37):
Attack people.

Matt (01:21:38):
Attack people.

Rachel (01:21:39):
That's fine. It's fine. It doesn't matter. And they
found the evidence to exonerateBob. So Bob's Bob is

Matt (01:21:47):
Bob's legacy is cleared.

Rachel (01:21:49):
Yep. Bob's name is cleared. Jeanette got her
revenge.

Matt (01:21:53):
To live in shame of his father.

Rachel (01:21:55):
Yeah. Patrick is taken care of. Jeanette got everything
she wanted except a death as amortal because Nick was like,
this feels petty. Okay? Yeah.
This feels like some petty, butI didn't wanna lose you, but,
like, this wasn't about you,Nick. This was about her. She
she said no.

Matt (01:22:14):
He could've taken her to the hospital.

Rachel (01:22:16):
Yeah. That she said no, which feels and so when, you
know, I mean, that feels likedenial of consent. So when you
changed her, it was against herwill. So who's the good guy
Yeah. In this, hashtag not you?
So LaCroix, we go back toLacroix, and he's like, strange
how things turn out. And itturns out he's at Nick's

(01:22:37):
apartment. But Nick Nick hasapparently told Lacroix all
about it because he's Lacroixsays, well, she gets what you've
wanted all along. And then, funny fucking story, you're the
one who takes it away from her.

LaCroix (01:22:57):
Even Leonardo couldn't capture all of her beauty.
Strange how things turn out, isn't it? Through hellish
circumstance, she obtains whathas proven so elusive to you.
Only to have that 1 in a1000000000 happenstance taken

(01:23:17):
from her by you. I don't knowwhether to laugh or to cry for
you, Nicholas.

Rachel (01:23:26):
And what they have in front of them is the da Vinci
painting that they got in thatpetty ass fight about when they
broke up last time, and he keptit because he was like, uh-uh. I
had Da Vinci paint this for me.You can't hit it. And she's
like, that's my selfie. I wantit.
And he was like, uh-uh. So heended up giving it to her.
Remember he had the littlecabinet with the light on it?

LaCroix (01:23:44):
Yeah. Yep.

Rachel (01:23:45):
He ended up giving it to her, and now she's given it back
because she's like, I don'tfucking want it. Just like I
don't fucking want you. AndLaCroix goes, I don't know
whether to laugh or cry for you,Nicholas. And Nick says, you
haven't told me everything,LaCroix. And LaCroix goes, well,

(01:24:07):
neither of you, Nick.
And then he goes, it seems likeI have lost a daughter and
regained a son. Oh, becauseLacroix can see the writing on
the wall. He's not he's notmaking a big deal about it
because every time he makes abig deal about it, Nick gets

(01:24:28):
weird and back. It's likepathological demand avoidance.

Matt (01:24:30):
Yeah.

Rachel (01:24:31):
As soon as he's like, oh, you're becoming a vampire
again. Great. Let's go out andhunt together. He's like, uh-uh.
Never gonna hunt ever again.
So Lacroix can't say anythingabout it. He has to just ride
this wave. But he is fuckingenjoying this ride, because Nick
is on a very slow but steadydescent from

Matt (01:24:50):
Back towards him.

Rachel (01:24:51):
Back towards Lacroix. And this kinda feels like being
human UK. We get a character inthe last couple seasons named
Hal. Yeah. And Hal's, handsdown, my favorite character in
the entire series.
And when we first meet him, heis, like, he's been clean,
quote, unquote, for, like, 50years, but he can feel his
vampire nature coming back.Mhmm. And he says it feels like

(01:25:13):
feeling the tide come back in.And that's what this feels like.
It's like he goes through thesecycles where he's really, really
good for a while, and then theneedle swings the other way, and
he ends up all the way back withthe croiss.
And then that gets to be toomuch, and then he regains his
whatever. So it definitely feelslike we are on the downslide

(01:25:34):
towards going back to just beinga vampire, and I am fucking here
for this. And I this was not ahorrible episode. I didn't hate
this episode. I like thisepisode.
1, I like we get to see Debra DuChaine again, and I love that
she showed up and was, like, deuces, y'all. I'm gonna wear
what I fucking wanna wear, andI'm not I'm not affecting that

(01:25:55):
stupid Jennette accent again. You fired me. You don't get it
back.

Matt (01:25:58):
Yeah.

Rachel (01:25:59):
You wanted me to still be Jennette? You should've kept
Jennette. But I'll show up. I'llI'll make it I'll make some
cash. Like, I'll buy a car.
Whatever you pay me for

Matt (01:26:06):
this time. I'm wondering how much they had to pay her. I
guess

Rachel (01:26:10):
A couple was a lot.

Matt (01:26:11):
Guest star pay

Rachel (01:26:12):
Is higher.

Matt (01:26:13):
Is higher than regular cast pay.

Rachel (01:26:16):
Which funny story. That's why Uhura was the highest
paid cast member of the originalStar Trek series.

Matt (01:26:22):
Right.

Rachel (01:26:23):
Because they wouldn't allow a

Matt (01:26:24):
black actor

Rachel (01:26:26):
to be on the, like, cast. She couldn't be in the
series cast.

Matt (01:26:31):
Cast. Yeah.

Rachel (01:26:32):
So she had to be a guest star on every single episode,
and so she was the highest paidactress. I like this episode. We
get Deborah back, and then weget this, I mean, this is just
another nudge down the slipperyslope of Nick ever so slowly
leaving behind this. I mean, Ifeel like season 1, we got a lot

(01:26:53):
more vampire vigilante wherehe'd, like, fly after people and
he'd land in front of their carsand shit. But he was always,
like, reluctantly using thevampire in pursuit of justice.
Right. And then season 2, wekinda forgot he was a vampire,
kinda remembered he was avampire, kind of just used it
for show in the flashbacks, whatever. It was just sort of
and then now in season 3, it'slike, oh, he's gonna be cured.

(01:27:15):
He's and then it's like, buthuman blood tastes really good.
And there's that time he got, hegot possessed by a demon, and it
made him hungry again.
And there's not really a shape,but there's kind of a shape. I
mean, there's a little bit of a

Matt (01:27:32):
Yeah. Like a series plot arc or a

Rachel (01:27:34):
season plot arc. Yeah. It's subtle, And it's definitely
something where you are drawingin a lot of the dots on your
own. Yeah. But it doesn't taketoo many self administered dots
to get a nice curve going.

Matt (01:27:48):
Mhmm.

Rachel (01:27:49):
And I love that. I love that we we are allowing the
Nicholas character to grow andnot necessarily grow in a good
direction.

Matt (01:28:00):
Right. He's not on the hero's journey.

Rachel (01:28:02):
Yeah. It's like a descent into madness.

Matt (01:28:06):
Yeah. I'm

Rachel (01:28:07):
fucking here for it.

Matt (01:28:08):
Like, somebody who's been sober for a long time who's
like, I'll just have one drink.

Rachel (01:28:13):
Yeah. And

Matt (01:28:13):
then they're, like, I'll have another drink.

Rachel (01:28:17):
Yeah. Okay. The other night getting drunk on Saturday,
really, how's that really gonnabother you?

Matt (01:28:21):
I've gone 2 weekends in a row where I just had 1 or 2
drinks. Okay. So maybe I'mbetter. Maybe I could handle it
now, and then they just steadilysink.

Rachel (01:28:33):
Yeah. But I love vampirism as a metaphor for
addiction, so that works realthat works great. I like it
better as a metaphor foraddiction than I do as, like, a
sexual predator. We've had thatdiscussion, but that's my least
favorite interpretation. I lovethe I mean, vampire as metaphor
is, like, my favorite.
Yeah. Monster as metaphor forbeing othered or for, like,

(01:28:55):
different things that affect thehuman condition, like addiction
and mental illnesses. Perfect.It's the

Matt (01:29:00):
fantasy version of what Star Trek does with aliens.

Rachel (01:29:03):
Right. Exactly. A sandbox. It gives you a sandbox
to play with where these thingsfeel achievable without it being
like, oh, this guy's depressed. You're like, no.
He's not depressed. He's aghost. Oh, this guy has anxiety
problems. No. He doesn't.
He's a werewolf. Or, like, theone thing we don't get a lot of,
and you and I were having adiscussion about this morning

(01:29:24):
is, like, the female monster, which is why I lamented the loss
of Jeanette. Yeah. Because it's,like, female monsters as a
metaphor for, like, theembodiment of feminine power and
how we don't get a lot of femalewerewolves, especially, because
they are, like, the denial of,all feminine power.

Matt (01:29:45):
Like Oh, it's it's a reversal. I guess the a female
werewolf is the inverse ofeverything that is, like,
mainstream feminine.

Rachel (01:29:57):
Yeah. And we were talking about this yesterday as
well is there's a book serieswhere, the vampires are, like,
allergic to the sun and crossesand shit because they were
convinced that they were by theCatholic church. It's pretty
good book series by ChristopherGolden. I think it's saints of
saints and shadows. And it's aninteresting concept that they

(01:30:17):
actually, like, they can shapechange, so they can become fire,
they can become all kinds ofstuff.
So when they go out in the sun, they literally just immolate
themselves. It's all in theirmind. And it feels like a
metaphor for, at a certain pointin history, men got together and
came up with, like, okay. We'regonna start convincing women
that they're the inferior speakthat they're the inferior

(01:30:40):
gender. And for some reasonscary otherwise.
For some reason, we fuckingbelieved them, and we've been
believing them for way too long, ladies. Way too long. I'm sorry.
If a man can't handle you atyour most, like, feminine and
empowered, just fucking like, drop them. Fuck that out of the
gene pool by not fucking that.
Okay? I don't know. That's I Ithink I've talked about that in,

(01:31:03):
like, the last 6 pods we'vedone, but it must be weighing on
me right now. I just maybebecause of the coming American,
like, election that's coming upand all the shit that's
happening with, like, reproductive rights where we are
allowing these white men, theseold white men to dictate what I

(01:31:24):
can and cannot do with my body. And I have a 10 year old
daughter, which means I'manywhere from 2 to 4 years from
having a daughter who's capableof having a child.
And that means that I live in acountry where there is a real
life possibility that she couldbe 12 to 14 years old and
pregnant, and I could do nothingabout it even if it was the

(01:31:47):
result of sexual assault.

Matt (01:31:48):
Right. And we could be, like, jailed Yeah. For trying to
get help.

Rachel (01:31:56):
And I have also gone through in vitro fertilization,
and we just had that whole thingwhere now frozen embryos in
certain states are consideredbabies. And I went through 3
transfers before I had asuccessful transfer, which means
I had 2 spontaneous losses offertilized embryos. And does

(01:32:21):
that mean, like, you implantedthat embryo knowing it might not
stick? Is is there we don't knowwhat the precedent for that is
going to be. Because when youimplant an embryo, you do not
have a 100% guarantee that it'sgoing to work.
Right. So is that attemptedmurder? Is that manslaughter?

Matt (01:32:43):
Is that, reckless endangerment?

Rachel (01:32:46):
Is that reckless endangerment? Okay. I'm gonna
leave it there because that is arabbit hole. But when you've had
the level of life experiencethat we have and you see this
shit happening, it's likewatching a train wreck. And it
must be bothering me because Ikeep bringing it up.

(01:33:06):
So just stay informed, thinkcritically, and, make your own
decisions. And I'm gonna leaveit at that. So until next time,
friends. Bye.
