Natalie (00:00):
Had to do something. I couldn't just
stand by and watch.
Should you give him? Maybe 2cc's, a very small dose. Look.
He gives you a lead, Henry goesfree, and then everything goes
back to normal.

Nick (00:10):
Including Joey.

Rachel (00:12):
I am Rachel.

Matt (00:13):
And I'm Matt.

Rachel (00:15):
And this is Come in, 81 Kilo.
A forever night podcast.

Matt (01:12):
Welcome back friends.

Rachel (01:14):
Welcome back.
It's time for another episode.Forever Knight season 3 episode
18, fallen idol.
A little bit less dark than thelast one.
What do you what do you thinkthat title means? Is it is it
less dark? I feel like that issuch a low bar. Yeah. Okay.
I mean, sort of.

(01:35):
It's not as unceasingly dark.
Oh, it's pretty relentlessly dark, but it's a
more obscure dark topic. It'smore like
I guess it's more approachable. It's more socially
acceptable.
It's easier to it's not even easier to talk about. I was
gonna say it's easier to talkabout than domestic violence,

(01:57):
which, again, is a really lowbar.
Still child abuse.
This feels less like it was, whoops, snatched from the
headlines and dropped into thisprocedural drama to give us
Yeah. In fact, I think they eachtake turn directing the last

(02:19):
couple because there's one in afew episodes that's directed by
Nigel Bennett. So I thinkthey're all just playing around.
Yeah. Why not?
The game is made up and thestakes don't matter because
we're already canceled, bitches.Do what you want, which is what
this feels like Yeah. A littlebit. What do you think that
title means, Matthew?
A doll shaped like an eye that fell over.
Is that what you're going with? No. Okay.

(02:40):
Never meet your idols.
Who do you think fell? Do you think it was Henry? Or do
you think it was Natalie?
Poor k. No low dose.
Indeed. Because remember how last episode, the only
people who came out the river ofshit smelling like a rose were

(03:02):
Natalie and Reese? Well, don'tworry y'all. Natalie caught up.
Natalie's got some flaws.
Not to be left behind.
Acknowledging flaws is how characters grow.
She was like, I see you, Nick, letting people die, and I
think I will actually, try tokill a small a child. I think

(03:24):
that's what I'm gonna do thisepisode. She she frames it to
herself as I'm being I am being,helpful. I am
trying to savior?
Yes. Oh, and you know what's really funny? Because I
was sitting on the couch, and Ithought, well, I will watch
Friday. And I didn't feel likegetting up and changing the DVD
or figuring out where any of ourfiles were. So I was like, no.

(03:46):
I think I'll just watchwhatever's on Roku, which
happens to only be season 1 andseason 2. And so I was watching
I Will Repay, which is the onewhere, Natalie's brother gets
shot and turned into a vampireand loses his shit, and then
Nick has to kill him. It's awhole thing. I totally forgot

(04:06):
that his nickname is the whiteknight.
Natalie's brother?
Natalie's brother.
Nickname?
He's such a good dude. The people at his lawyer office
call him the white knight.
The people at my office call me the juggernaut.
It's not the same. The people at my office call me

(04:28):
mama.
Just kidding. Well
I mean, it's true, but
At a previous office, they called me the juggernaut.
I've just started laying theseeds of, oh, yeah. By the way,
now that I'm going to be on anew team unrestrained on this
brand new project
Yeah. I'm the juggernaut, bitch.

(04:48):
Skye Fred said, that's what
That's what I'm counting on.
That's what I'm counting on.
Yeah. Yep. We open on this dude.
I would say in the first five minutes, we get, oh, no.
What? No. Because it's, oh, isthis the steroid episode? No.
No. No. This is the professionalwrestling episode. Wait. No.

(05:12):
It's not the professionalwrestling episode. It's the
We're gonna go with cognitively impaired.
Never go full cognitively impaired episode.
Yes. That's after some debate as to how we will be
referring to Joey. What I camedown with was
Rachel said she would edit out anytime I quoted the
line from Tropic Thunder.

(05:33):
Yes. Please don't. Please don't. We do try to be
sensitive on this podcast, which, let me tell you all, is a
little bit like patting yourstomach and rubbing your head
and jumping up and down andfiling your taxes all at the
same time when you're talkingabout nineties television shows.
So this is a moment where we allneed you to put on your context

(05:54):
lenses because it was veryappropriate to hire an actor to
pretend to be cognitivelydifferent in an episode of
television like this.
And honestly, he doesn't do thatbad of a job. Trust me. This
could have gone a lot worse.
Yeah.

(06:15):
This could have been so much worse. If you wanna see a
good example of an actor who,had to act as someone who was,
cognitively spicy, cognitivelydifferent.
Do not watch Ben Stiller in Tropic Thunder.
No. No. Not not that. But also, and absolutely knocked

(06:36):
it out of the park. Go check outIt's Okay to Not Be Okay, which
is a k drama.
Yep. And if you know anythingabout k dramas, they are not
particularly known for theirstellar portrayal of people with
any kind of difference. But thisparticular series, it's only 16

(07:03):
episodes long, was really reallygood. And the guy who played the
brother who is supposed to beautistic, does a really good
job. The Good Doctor, which isactually a show which is on
American television, is based ona k drama of the same name, The
Good Doctor.
And just like in the Americanversion, the main doctor is

(07:27):
actually autistic. Do not watchthat one as a good example. It's
not
Is it bad? I
you know what? It's culturally different the way
they portray the people. Andwhen you watch it as an
American, it's challenging. Andsome of that is because maybe
the portrayal is problematic, but also some of it is just
cultural. And there is a levelof acceptable for how you, like

(07:54):
Represent.
Represent these people, which isnot okay here, but it's
different there. And it's justone of those things where you
have to, like you're hands off.You're I'm not Korean. I don't
get to weigh in. But from anAmerican point of view, the it's
okay to not be okay Koreabecause of the realistic way he

(08:22):
portrayed someone with autism,so that's a great one to look
into.
Honestly, Joey doesn't do aterrible job. The actor plays
Joey. So just kinda we're gonnamake it through this and it's
gonna be good. But know that weknow and it's on we're just
gonna put that on the table likewe normally do. Do.
I'm just gonna set the table andthen put that on one of the
plates. There it is. We open onthis beefy dude and he is

(08:46):
shooting up in the locker roomlike, something. We don't know
what. And he injects whatever itis, and he, like, throws his
head back, like, it hurts.
And we immediately transition tohim lifting weights, which is
actually a really cooltransition.

Matt (08:59):
Mhmm.

Rachel (09:00):
I really like that, and he's, like, lifting it. And
later later, he says he theseare steroids, obviously. And
later, he says that he startedsteroids because he was losing
his cut. He was losing hisdefinition and his edge, and he
needed steroids to look likethis?
The, like, mid thirties dad bod?

(09:22):
And I'm not sure what cut meant in 1997.
Okay. So I think for some context, if you just
Google, like, WWE or at at thetime, it was WWF 1995, for
example, and look at the cast, they're not they're not, like,

(09:48):
20 twenties
Yeah. It's a
little bit of, like, bodybuilder cut.
Yeah. You look at, like, Andre the
Giant. Yes.
It was more about actual strength than it was about
muscle definition. They werenot, like, if you wanted to do
straight muscle definition, youwere like a Arnold
Schwarzenegger. You were like abodybuilder, somebody who went
and did displays.
A competitive bodybuilder.

(10:09):
Yeah. And so it was more about being actually strong, but
he phrases it as if it is aboutmuscle definition, and you have
more muscle definition than you
would have. Looking at this guy, and I'm like, I'm
bigger than this guy.
And that's not like that you have, but, like like, Matt

(10:31):
is stick. Matt is fairly fit, soit really it it suits. Like,
it's a good comparison. Yeah.Yeah.
You're probably he's reallytall, though. Like, he's tall,
tall, tall. Anyway, I just wannapoint out that later, he's like,
I did it to keep my cut, andyou're like, oh, okay. Alright.
I don't think it worked.
Like, your your competition's not that. Yeah. Or

(10:55):
I guess your I can see why youfelt insecure compared to the
other guys. Yeah. Just becauseyou're not 6 foot 8.
Correct.
Yeah. Yeah. So there was somebody who was watching him
shoot up. We saw, like, aneyeball, and that same person
arrives at the gym. And the guywho is lifting weights puts the

(11:16):
weights down and he goes, 100%industrial grade cut steel.
And the guy who has walked in,who at this point from his
haircut, I guess, we're supposedto get is maybe a little bit
cognitively impaired. I don't itlooks like somebody cut his hair
with weed whackers. Like, why? What was the choice there? Like,
why would you do that?

(11:38):
We we get it. His acting's gonnasell it to us. Okay? Don't don't
do the haircut thing. Okay?
Don't just a memo for everyonewho's considering including a
character like this. Just letthem have a normal haircut.
Okay? Maybe it's supposed to be,like, Henry's doing his best.
Like, his guardian, Henry isdoing his best, but he's

(11:59):
still struggling to take care of a
Yeah.
A kid.
Yeah. Because this is not his child. He was not given
This is nephew. It's his nephew. Both of his parents died in a
car accident, and now he's hisfull time caregiver.
Maybe this is supposed to belike, he's doing his best. He's
doing a good job, but there arecertain things he's still
struggling with. And let maybelet's go with that.

Matt (12:19):
Yeah.

Rachel (12:20):
And Joey actually says
some grace.
He goes, no, silly. Bulldozer is cut steel, not you,
Henry. And that's supposed to beour first. Oh, he doesn't know
that bulldozer and Henry are thesame person. He doesn't realize
that once his uncle Henry putson the costume, he's still
Henry, which matters later.

(12:42):
And then we go to them filming apromo, and for, like, a hot
minute, I thought these wereactually supposed to be people
in the background and that thiswas, like, a Yeah.
Like, it's a
cheap matte
Cheap matte painting background for a realistic
audience.
And I was like, oh, no. We could have just done it
empty. And then they're, oh, no.Okay. Oh, they were filming a
promo.
Okay. This is fine. This isfine. Because this background is

(13:04):
terrible. Like, it does not looklike people at all.
And bulldozer, we find out, actually has on a full face mask
because it's bulldozer and thisother guy named Nitro who are
filming this promo. And atfirst, you think they're kind of
riffing, but then thescriptwriter pops up, and he's
like, come on, man. Like, haveyou forgotten your lines? What's
going on? Because he's readingout the lines, and bulldozer's
like, sorry.

(13:25):
I just can't, like I'm realfoggy today. I can't think of
anything. And Nitro actuallysays, maybe you should let
Forrest Gump do your lines. Andfor those counting, that's our
first nineties movie reference. And of course, Forrest Gump is
the classic portrayal by TomHanks of Forrest Gump, who is an

(13:46):
individual who is of extremelyaverage intelligence, according
to the movie, because we getthat part where he has the IQ
test, and he's, like, your son'sright here, and we need him to
be here.

Matt (13:59):
And

Rachel (14:00):
then she fucks the principal when he gets in
school. Yeah. I'll just go putthat on the table. There's
another plate, and I'm justgonna drop it right on there.
I don't think we'll be covering for, Forrest Gump
on this podcast. No. And then they get to fight for real
because Nitro is an asshole, andHenry attacks him. Bulldozer
attacks him because he calledhis nephew Forrest Gump, which

(14:22):
was really rude. And he's like, you want me to bury him?
I'll bury him right now. Andhe's, like, throwing him down.
He ends up getting beat up byNitro because as we find out,
Nitro is actually the betterwrestler. Like, the bulldozer is
not actually that. He's whatdoes the promoter say?
Bulldozer is the type ofwrestler that exists just to be
beat up by other wrestlers likeNitro?

(14:44):
Yeah.
Yeah. Okay. But he's, like, laying on the ground after
he got pummeled by Nitro, andJoey drapes a robe over him. And
Henry, like, grabs his hands, and he's like, hey, man. Can you
go get me some extra towels?
Like, can you go grab sometowels? And then Joey carrying
the towels comes into the lockerroom, and he finds bulldozer and

(15:05):
nitro fighting, and bulldozeractually breaks nitro's neck.
Bulldozer being just a man in asuit, which again has a full
face mask, canonically has afull face mask Yeah. And, like,
sunglasses because we see apromotional picture of him
later, and we find out he's,like, completely covered in
black. Right.

(15:26):
And he actually breaks Nitro'sneck in front of Joey, and Joey
tries to talk to Bulldozer, buthe doesn't respond. And then
Joey looks at Nitro after theguy dips, and he's like, you got
dozed. And then
we He's he's playing up his hero, his idol.

(15:47):
Yeah. And then we come back, and it's like Nick and
Natalie walking. And Natalie'slike, yep. He had a broken neck.
And Nick's like, yeah.
And a bruised face, which meansand they chime in together.
Someone tried to separate thatguy's head from his body. He got
his head. He got his neckbroken. Okay.
Great. And Natalie's actuallylike, really? We might get we
might be able to get some printsfrom his face. Because if he

(16:10):
grabbed his face hard enough, hecould have left a palm print.
Yep.
And Tracy pops up, which Tracyis very, she's taken over
Natalie's role of I only pop upwhen important information is
needed in this particularepisode.
Do you think that's because this episode is directed
by Gere?
I don't know. But she just goes and she, like, appears
in a puff of smoke, and she'slike, Karl Hibbert, known in

(16:32):
wrestling circles as Nitro. That's the guy who died. And
then she points over at Henry, and she's like, that's the last
person to see him. They werefilming a promo together, and
then she like spins and leaves.
And Nick says it takes a lot ofbeef to kill someone that way.

Nick (16:50):
Well, it takes a lot of beef to kill someone that size
that way.

Rachel (16:53):
And the know how to do it. Try not to OD in all the
testosterone. And Natalie goes, yeah. And the know how to do it.
Like, they're testosterone.
And, actually, Tracy's stillthere because she and Natalie
share look like. Like, I don'tknow. This isn't exactly. If I

(17:16):
were in 2024 and I was around abunch of, like, really cut
wrestlers, maybe this look wouldmake sense. It's a bunch of men
in very small spandex suits who, don't say no to cookies.
That that's what we're like, that's the the theme of the
room. And I'm not like they Ihave no judgment of this body

(17:37):
type. It's perfectly fine. Justif you're presenting these
people to me as, like, testosterone wrestlers, they
need to be something other thantall and beefy. And not beefy,
like, I work out beefy just, like, I eat a lot of beef beefy.
I don't know how to describethis. I'm trying to be gentle
here. There's a lot happening.There's a lot happening.

(17:58):
I think dad bod
covers it. Yeah.
Where they're muscular, but a little rounded
around the edges. Toft around the edges, which is not
an unattractive look. It is whenyou're wearing really tiny
spandex outfits.
Yes.
Yes. So Henry actually tells them that Joey is missing.

(18:20):
He's like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. You wanna talk to me aboutthe guy that died? Whatever. My
nephew, who has a cognitivedisability, he's missing, and we
need to find him.
And this guy does a really good job of portraying a
guy who's, like, the primarycaretaker of of this teenager

(18:40):
and being like, look, I'mlegitimately concerned about my
nephew. I'm his guardian.
Yeah.
Because his parents died. My highest priority right
now is my nephew. Yeah. Nitro, yeah. I feel bad about it.
Shit's hard.
I didn't have anything to do with it. My nephew's

(19:01):
missing. Let's go
find it. Missing. We need to find him. Yeah. And I
think that that is a reallygood, like, introduction to this
character.
Yeah. It's very I had sudden scary responsibility
thrust upon me, and I amattempting to rise to meet it
with every fiber of my beingwithout really having any idea
what the fuck I'm doing. But theway I'm dealing is by making

(19:23):
sure he's the center of my worldat all times, which is a really
fair assessment of thischaracter. And it kind of
follows through the wholeepisode. And we find out that
Joey's parents died in a caraccident.
Henry is his only guardian, andhe's got to find him because he
is his person. He's the personthat takes care of Joey, and

(19:44):
Joey needs him.
And Joey doesn't do well with strangers. Right.
And then we cut to Natalie, and Natalie gets in the
car, and Joey sits up from herback seat. And he's like, I'm
not supposed to ride withstrangers. And Natalie, nopes,
right out of the car. She'slike, hold on. Nope.
Oh, no. I have had way too much
She has had too many close calls to to just ride this

(20:05):
out.
She don't fuck around. There was that one time she got
roped to a gun for, like, hours, and nobody cared, and she didn't
get any vacation days. And therewas that time she got driven out
to the florist shop with theserial killer. Like, a lot has
happened to Natalie in cars. Sheis not about this.

(20:27):
She gets right the fuck out.
In contrast, my my company had some layoffs
recently.
Yeah.
And for, like, a week after the layoffs, like, every
day, there was some executive ormanager or somebody, like,
emailing or messaging people, like, hey, FYI, just in case you

(20:52):
didn't remember, our healthinsurance covers free therapy
visits. If anybody needs to justtake some time off, Don't worry
about putting in PTO. Don'tworry about getting anything
done. Just and and takeadvantage of this health care

(21:14):
benefit for free therapy. Yeah.
Natalie really needed somethinglike that.
Yeah. Natalie didn't get that.
For, like, a week afterward, everybody that meets
up with her. Natalie, have youtaken advantage of your health
care free therapy benefit yet?
Remember how you were chained to that gun?
I expect you to be taking the next 3 days off.

(21:34):
Didn't she get flipped in a car?
Don't don't use any of your saved up PTO. You'd we just
won't worry about you gettingany work done I think for the
next week.
I think they get, like, run off the road, and her car
gets flipped with them all init. I'm almost positive. I'm
gonna have to look at whateverhe said it is. That's not
goblins. You just wanna watchgoblin.

(21:56):
I just wanna watch it.
Because I watched I talked about k dramas, but she
nopes out of the car, and she'slike, officers, there's a person
in my back seat. She's evenspecific. She's like, I am
having a crisis. There isn't astranger in my back seat.
I think she even points at the officers.
Yeah. And then he pops out. Of course, they pull him
out, and then we get yield. Nowwe are introduced, and so we
aren't strangers anymore routinebecause he's like, I'm not

(22:18):
supposed to be in the car withstrangers. And she says, well,
I'm Natalie.
What's your name? And he goes,Joey. And she's like, see, now
we're not strangers anymore.Because Henry has a rule that
he's not allowed to get in thecar with strangers, which makes
a lot of sense. And so he's justtrying to do the right thing.
And so Joey says, Henry'sinside, because she says,
where's Henry? And then Natalietakes him in. She's like, I'll

(22:41):
take you to Henry. We'll get youto your person. We'll get you
safe.
Everything's gonna be fine. Ihope you enjoy this version of
Natalie, because she's gone inabout 10 minutes when she gives
no shits about how Joey isfeeling or what Joey needs or
anything like that. And he'sactually naming posters as they
walk down the hall. He's like, this is so and so wrestler. This
is whatever.
And then we get to bulldozers, and he refuses to name

(23:03):
bulldozer. She's like, who'sthat Joey? And he's like, I
could talk about it.
But we don't get to, like, highlight that because
Henry shows
Yeah. Nick and Henry and Tracy all walk up and and
Henry's like, Joey, where wereyou? Where did you go? I was
missing you. What happened?
And he's like, I saw a badthing. Like, I saw something

(23:25):
happen, and it it, like, itthrew me for such a loop I fled
is basically what he's saying. And he went and hid in Natalie's
car. And he says he saw becauseHenry is like, what did you see?
What happened?
Just just say it. It's fine. Noone's gonna harm you.
Everything's gonna be okay. EvenNatalie's like, what's the worst

(23:45):
thing that could happen?
Nothing bad is gonna happen toyou. And he goes, oh, okay.
Cool. I saw bulldozer killNitro. And this is after Henry
was, like, it's okay.
You can tell them. They're likedetectives, like Ace Ventura.
Movie reference number 2.
Let me tell you, I watched Ace Ventura with the
kids and that did not age well.

(24:09):
I heard the rhinos the rhino escape
Yeah. The rhino is still peak cinema. There's a couple
moments where you're like, okay. That's alright. But for the
majority of it, it's likenineties nails on a chalkboard.
It is so hard. And I rememberthinking it was so fucking
funny. Like, I had both movieson tape. I had them memorized. I

(24:34):
used to we used to quote themwhen you went over for a
sleepover, like, like a glove, like, when he's in the soda.
I saw an air in
the clip of

Matt (24:41):
Jim Perry.

Rachel (24:42):
And he's like, I did not expect Ace Ventura to take off
like that. I thought it wasgonna bomb.
He didn't wanna do the 2nd movie Yeah. But he was under
contract, so they made him cut. That's a whole other story.
Anyway so they immediatelybelieved Joey. They're like, oh,
Joey said bulldozer killedNitro.
Hell, yeah. He did. That'swhat's that's what happened. And

(25:05):
they take Henry in for agrilling. So then we go to the
precinct, and Henry is in theinterrogation room, and they're
doing the, like, walk around topdown filming thing to, like,
show us how serious they areabout getting a confession out
of Henry.
And no shade on Joey. Absolutelypeople with cognitive
differences can give honesttestimony, but no one, even a

(25:29):
neurotypical person was going towalk up and tell police
officers. I saw a bulldozer in afull face mask kill this other
guy and they're gonna be like, well, that is a game set match.
Total lock. We have this thingnow.
We don't need to investigate. Weknow exactly what happened. We

(25:53):
just spent an entire episodetalking about how this guy who
was in the room when his wifegot stabbed, who has prior
convictions for violence againstthe same woman, could not be
arrested off handedly becausethey had no evidence. And yet,

(26:13):
as soon as Joey is like, I sawhim kill kill Nitro.
I saw Bulldozer.
I saw Bulldozer kill Nitro. They're like, slam
fucking dunk, y'all. We got thebitch. And then we just take him
straight to the precinct, and heeven reads
Once again, they have a traumatized, unreliable
eyewitness Yeah. That has aclose relationship to the

(26:38):
perpetrator.
Yeah.
And in one situation, nah. It's a hysterical woman.
She has a vagina.
Yeah. Even Reese is, like, book that motherfucker.
Right. Everyone is like, woo. That was an easy one.
Thanks, Joey.
Well, this witness has a penis.
Oh, is that what it is? I mean, it could be. I'm not

(27:00):
saying it's not.
Or at least he presents as a person who has a penis.
I'm just saying this feels a little inconsistent, and
I think, spoiler alerteverybody, this is one of my
least favorite episodes. So if Igo off a little, that might
explain it. But Henry, ofcourse, denies any
participation, and Nick goes, Idon't think Joey would lie about

(27:21):
that. Do you? The fuck you know?
You don't know Joey. You met him2 hours ago. You had one
interaction, and it was
There are no contradictions in nature. If you
encounter 1, check yourpremises.
Check your premises. He doesn't know anything about
Joey. He doesn't know whetherJoey how Joey perceives reality.

(27:45):
He doesn't know how Joeyexpresses himself. He doesn't
know anything about how Joeycommunicates.
Right.
He doesn't know anything
about him. A storyteller? Is Joey
Does Joey perceive reality the same way we do? I
have family who have cognitivedisabilities. One of whom is in

(28:07):
a group home, because theystruggle with their perception
of reality, and they do thingslike talk to fire alarms and any
blinking lights. And it's just,it's who they are. It doesn't
make them dangerous.
It doesn't make them scary. It'sjust a different way of
perceiving reality.

(28:28):
But you have to take that into consideration when you
are interpreting something theysay.
Right. And they are just as likely to tell you that, yes,
Henry killed the bulldozerkilled Nitro, and the queen
talks to me through the TV,which is actually a real life
story. So I didn't make that upout of thin air. Not the Henry
part, but the queen on the TV.So, I mean, without consulting

(28:53):
Henry, who is his closestcaregiver and who can actually
interpret Joey's perception ofreality for them, the fact that
they're immediately like, oh, hesaw you kill him, and that's
game over, my friend, is alittle bit, tone deaf.
It feels tone deaf. It feelstone deaf. Unprofessional?
Unprofessional. Because Henry'slike, I didn't fucking do it.

(29:16):
And they're like, you're playinghard and fast with the truth,
Henry. They're just immediately, like, well, Joey wouldn't lie.
They and then there were, like, rapid firing questions at him to
try to trip him up. And they'relike, oh, well, you hit Nitro.
He's like, yeah.
We're wrestlers.
It's literally my job.
Legit my job to beat that guy up.

(29:36):
See this paycheck? The memo says, punch Nitro in the
face.
I was literally just paying my bills. Like, I don't
know what you want from me. Hesays, well, you beat up Nitro
during the promo, and he's,like, yeah. He made a crack
about Joey. And Nick goes, don'tyou think that was a little
overreaction?
Fuckers say, what? You killed aman. Last episode.

(29:59):
Hold on. Hold on. Pot, black kettle?
Meat because you're the same person. Again, this time,
he's not looking in a mirror. He's just looking through the
window at him. It's like, youwould absolutely overreact in
the same way. Don't even withthat with me.
He's looking at a selfie of himself.
You don't know. He doesn't know the history of how

(30:19):
Nitro treats Joey. Nitro may bephysically abusive to Joey. You
have he has literally no ideawhether that was an isolated
incident or a pattern ofincidents that would have
resulted in Henry slashbulldozer being physical with
Nitro. Is it ever okay to useour hands and not our words?
Not necessarily, but we didn'tdelve into that at all. They're

(30:41):
just like, well, youoverreacted. You don't know
anything about it. You didn'teven ask. You didn't ask anybody
else.
You only interviewed Henry. That's it. And Henry's like,
okay, I get it, like I'm alittle cranky, but we were on
this was a wrestling promo. Iwas trying to drum up interest
in our wrestling venue and inpeople coming to see us wrestle.

(31:03):
It was a promo.
I was selling fucking tickets, bitch. What do you think I was
doing? And they're like, killingNitro. Like, they just it's so
frustrating because there isnothing. They have nothing.
They had more evidence tyingmister Henderson from the
previous episode to the murder. Then they have this guy, and

(31:27):
they could not arrest the otherguy, but they booked this man
immediately. Like, beconsistent. That's all I'm
asking. Just be consistent.
Yeah. And they're, like, okay.Well, you sent Joey away for
towels so that you could be inthe locker room alone. And he
was, like, no. I didn't even goto the locker room right away.
I went to see the trainer abouta pulled muscle in my back, and

(31:48):
then I went to the locker room. And they're, like, okay. But
we're gonna keep you here untilwe confirm your involvement.
For the sake of discussing consistency.
Okay.
I thought, well, maybe maybe somebody else directed
Avenging Angel. Right? That wasthe last one? Yeah. Since

(32:11):
Garrett's directing this one,and we're going all over the
place Yeah.
On police procedure and by thebook professionalism. Whereas
previous episode, we were likewe were like full legal,
perception of, like, followingthe rules. Yeah. Okay. So,

(32:37):
Garrett directed this episode, but the previous episode,
Avenging Angel, was directed byAlan Simmons
Okay.
Who, according to IMDB, directed 4 episodes of Forever
Night in addition to 3 episodesof The Crow.
Stairway to Heaven. Stairway to Heaven. Yes.

(32:59):
Correct.
Alan Simmons directed season 2, episode 18, partners
of the month. Aw. And queen ofharps. And fever.
That's a good one. Queen of harps is like, the fuck? But

(33:19):
Yeah. The rest were good.
And avenging angel.
Yeah. Okay.
So we have different directors. Okay. I wonder about
the writers. So looking at thewriters, both episodes have
James Parriot and Barney Cohenas writers, but probably, the

(33:43):
person who did the bulk of thewriting was the guest writer.
Episode This episode was MichaelSadowski.
So different writers, differentdirectors
Different show?
Same people. Yeah. Okay.
Okay.
So I I think we can't really expect too much

(34:07):
consistency if it's a differentwriter and director.
I think at this point, if we are asking for
consistency, it's sort of like, what's the definition of
insanity? You know, trying to dothe same thing over and over
again and expecting a differentresult. Yeah. We couldn't even
remember how old Jeanette was,so it's fine. It doesn't
diminish how good the lastepisode was.

(34:28):
It does diminish how good thisepisode is.
Oh, here's some trivia.
Okay.
Rob Stefanuek, the actor who plays Joey, later in 2009,
wrote, directed, and starred ina vampire film.

(34:48):
Did he now?
This must be formative to his film experience.
What what vampire film would that be?
Suck.
I think I've seen that.
That's the only IMDB trivia on this episode.
Okay.
Oh, wait. No. There's a quote. Never mind. Never mind.
Okay. So after they're like, book them, Dano, fuckers

(35:12):
going nowhere. He's like, woah.Woah. Woah.
Hold up, y'all. I am Joey's solecaregiver. What are we gonna do
about Joey?
So Reese jumps in. Oh, I'll call, like, social services
or whatever. They just look at him. He's like, what
about Joey? What do I do aboutJoey? And they're like, you
should've thought about thatbefore you killed somebody in

(35:33):
front of him.
And then they leave the room. They just brush him off.
Oh, I forgot. They're not they're not in the room when
they figure out who's gonna takecare of him.
No. He does not know what happens.
So I jokingly pretty much every episode, I jokingly
say, oh, you need to take careof somebody. You need a safe

(35:53):
place for them to go. They couldjust go to Nick's place.
Even though we haven't done that in, like, a
seasonality. Done
that in a long time.
It just felt so consistent for a while. It was a
good guess. Still a good guessbecause guess what? Y'all. It's
where we're going.
No. But they don't tell himwhere Joey is. They don't tell
him what they're gonna do withJoey. They inform him not at all
as to Joey's whereabouts or howJoey is or what's happening with

(36:16):
Joey.
At least not on screen. I imagine he
on the limb here and say they don't.
In my mind, he keeps making a bunch of noise about,
where's my fucking nephew? Whatdid you do with him?
I hope so.
And somebody does. Somebody probably told him.

(36:37):
Oh, we sent him home with this random detective. It's
perfectly fine.
Because he later on, he finds out that Natalie and Nick
have been, supervising him. And
Oh, we'll get there. Oh, don't blow our load down.
Like
No. We'll get there.
Surprised by that.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I wonder if he asked, and they're

(37:00):
like, well, there's thisdetective. We think he's human.
He does a really good job.Anyway, we sent him home with
him. Here's a child. Take ithome with you. Just like in
father
Nick has taken home several children to his birthday
on police business.
The first one worked out so fucking well. They just

(37:20):
thought
He really likes the police department stipend.
Is that he's a fucking billionaire. He doesn't care. He
just keeps kicking thesechildren off.
100 millionaire. Okay. A 500 millionaire?
Yeah. Adjusted for inflation, that's
$1,000,000,000.
Oh, that's right. Yeah. We calculated that.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And still, he's like, well,

(37:44):
sure.
To be fair, he does notvolunteer. Natalie volunteers

Matt (37:48):
him.

Natalie (37:49):
Yes.

Rachel (37:49):
Yeah. So, anyway, he's like, I'm his sole caregiver.
What y'all gonna do? And they'relike, you don't get to decide.
And then they go in Reese'sroom.
You forfeited that that privilege.
Well, Reese asks Reese asks Nick, do you think there's
any chance the kid could bemistaken? And we're not just
calling him a kid because he iscognitively different.

(38:11):
But he's 17.
17. So he's legally a child. Legally a minor. And so
he's like, do you think there'sany chance that the kid could be
mistaken? And Nick goes, oh,yeah.
Totes. He's like, yeah. Totally. This kid could be just yeah.
Yeah.
He could yeah. No. Yeah. Yeah. And he goes, actually, I don't

(38:31):
even think Henry did it.
I just think he's hidingsomething. I don't even think
Henry did it. I think he'shiding something. So instead of
taking him back into theinterrogation room and getting
out whatever it is he thinkshe's hiding and or pursuing the
investigation to get clues inorder to leverage what he thinks

(38:53):
he's hiding out of Henry. They're just like, well, we're
just gonna arrest him for themurder.
Yeah.
And Reese is like, cool. Okay. Fine. Well, I'll call
Juvy. I'll get a place for Joey.
And Natalie's like, oh, no.Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait.
Actually, she shows up. She popsup right after Nick is like, oh,
yeah. He could be making thisup. I don't know. And she goes,

(39:16):
well wait.
Okay. Hang on. She goes, well, the killer is right handed, and
so is Henry. And Rhys goes, well, that seals it. It.
He's like, well, there you go.Exactly. It's like That's

(39:37):
greater than 50% of the fuckingpopulation. And then That
is that is a lower resolution criteria than, oh,
the killer was male
Or blood type.
And so is this guy.

Matt (39:53):
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yes.

Rachel (39:54):
Or blood type. And they're like, oh, he had a palm
print. Nitro had a palm print onhis cheek, and it matches Henry.
And he had black and yellowfibers under his nails just like
the bulldozer costume. Andthey're all like, well, hell
yeah.
And Nick goes Nick like raiseshis hand and he's like,
actually, that can all beexplained by the promo fight

(40:15):
that they had literally justhad. And they're all like, who
gives this shit? Sounds likeevidence to me. And then Tracy
pops in. She, like, leans in thedoor frame, and she's like, I
found Eddie Phelps, the trainerthat Henry claimed to have gone
to see, and he says he wasnowhere near the arena that
night.
So I guess we can say bye bye toHenry's story, and Reese is,

(40:37):
like, well, there's the nail inthe coffin. We found the
trailer. A guy named EddiePhelps. He swears he was nowhere
near the arena tonight.

Matt (40:44):
That would be the nail in the coffin. May not feel right,
but there when is that alright?Okay.

Rachel (40:51):
The fuck you're doing?
What coffin? What evidence?
Reese, what happened in the last week for you to change
Maybe. From avenging angel, wecan't arrest this guy We don't
have evidence. The law stops us.
And if you're asking yourself, well, of course, we
didn't have evidence, but we hadan eyewitness in that one. Guess

(41:14):
what, y'all? We have aneyewitness in avenging angel as
well. So both setups are exactlythe same.
The only the main difference is in Avenging Angel
where we are upholding the book.Yeah. The witness is a woman.
Yeah. And in this one where weare minor.

(41:36):
Completely. Oh, okay. We have anadult female and a male minor.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So we went from, oh, no. No.
We need evidence. We need aneyewitness. We need a signed
confession.
Eyewitness is an adult.
Well, I guess, Joey
do it by the book.
Joey's not a catalog of teenage angst.
There's also that. Although he will be.

(42:01):
He will be. Yeah. Thanks to Natalie. But he's like,
alright. Book Henry.
I'm gonna contact Juvy, and thisis when Natalie is like, woah.
Woah. Woah. He has specialneeds, and that means he needs
special care, like my care. AndReese is like, are you proposing
that, like, we keep him like, webabysit him?

(42:23):
Like, you know, and Nick islike, well, he isn't. Oh, Tracy,
I think, says, oh, he's aneyewitness, actually. Like, he's
our only witness. We need tomake sure he stays safe, because
Natalie says he did not handleeven one upset of his routine
very well. What if we send himto juvie?
He leaves, and he climbs in acar. And this time, he's not as
good about his choice of whosecar he climbs into. Yeah. And

(42:49):
Reese is like, alright. Whowants him?
Who wants to volunteer to
be his So Natalie volunteers to do it.
Parent. And Tracy makes this weird face like, not it.
Ew.
On on a a chat at work. Yeah. Somebody was like I was

(43:10):
asking for some help withupdating something, that hasn't
been touched since, like, 2021.And so I asked somebody on the
that appropriate team, and theysaid, oh, and it looks like it
has so and so's, like, customthing that they wrote. So it's
gonna take some more work to getthat, get that working, and I

(43:34):
just said, ew.
And I think that sums up, whichthe other guy thought that was
funny. Yeah. No. I think thissums up Tracy's reaction of
Great.
Ew. Although we have to mention, when Natalie says he
won't be so lucky about thecompany he chooses, it begs the

(43:56):
question, was he lucky aboutwhose company he chose?
In retrospect, after having watched this episode
That's a negative captain.
Feels lucky?
That's a negative captain. That would be a no. And
so Natalie volunteers a tribute, and Reese is like, okay. Fine.
Great.
But it has to be a cop. Itshould be a cop. Like, sorry,
Natalie.

(44:16):
Sorry, Natalie. I totally appreciate you
volunteering, but you are not anofficer of the law.
Sorry. You're not in the boys' club, so you don't get to
do that. And he looks she looksover at Nick, and it actually
whooshes him into a flashback. He's like
It's so intense. He's

Matt (44:36):
like, the thought

Rachel (44:37):
The obligations she's throwing at him.
The I he goes to catch it, and it just it back into the
past. And it's Nick and Lacroixwatching a grave get filled in,
and Lacroix goes, losing afamily member is never easy,
especially when you had thepower to prevent it.

Natalie (45:02):
The loss of a family member is never easy, especially
when you had the power toprevent it.

Nick (45:09):
It is not what my sister wanted.

Natalie (45:11):
Time has dulled your memory, Nicholas. It was not
what you wanted.

Rachel (45:17):
That's a fucking burn right there. That's a LaCroix
fucking burn because he waslike, oh, it's hard to watch her
go, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. It'dbe really bad if you weren't
fucking fated mates and somebodystood in between you being able
to be together for all ofeternity.
Yeah. That would be really thatwould really fucking suck,
wouldn't it, Nick?
Yeah. Let's just entertain this idea that I was

(45:39):
deeply in love with this woman, and and I wanted to turn her
into a vampire. And she kinda
She dug it.
She she was digging it.
Yeah. And you were all like,
And then you, instead of saying, get the fuck away from
her, you said, oh, Fleur, mylovely sister. You are in love

(46:05):
with this man, and this man isin love with you. I wish you
well on your relationship.
Yeah. What do you have
leftovers to that extent? Childbirth. What do you
think about what would havehappened if you'd done that
Well, what do you
instead of Yeah. Cock blocking me?
Yeah. And what Nick actually says is, well, that

(46:25):
wasn't what she wanted. AndLaquagh goes, oh, friend. Time
has dulled your fucking memory, fool, because it is what she
wanted. It just
been like a week.
It just wasn't what you wanted. And Nick goes
baby vampire Nick.
And Nick goes, I loved her too much to let you subject

(46:47):
her to your hell. And Laquazagoes, and I loved her so much. I
offered to spend eternity withher. What has your love given
her?

Nick (46:59):
I loved her too much to let you subject her to your
help.

Natalie (47:03):
And I loved Fleur so much that I offered her the gift
of eternity. What has your lovegiven her?

Matt (47:12):
Oof.

Rachel (47:14):
That's a real good question, isn't it? A short life
and a sudden death. That's whathis love gave her. A child she
didn't get to watch grow up, anda love she never got to be with.
And I'm still fucking mad aboutit, and I can't talk about it
anymore.
We should move on becauseLaCroix goes, Au revoir, mon

(47:38):
amore. Goodbye, my love. Like,I'm sad about it. It's I'm still
sad about that. It's the I wantan alternative timeline where
they get to be together, andthey're just, like, the best.
Like, she softens the croiss.Thank you. I don't need a
tissue. I appreciate you. I'llI'll make it.

(47:58):
I'll make it.
Okay.
And Nick is like, well, sure. Whatever. Okay. So, she
didn't must not have loved youthat much because she wrote me a
letter and told me to look afterher son. Actually, you made her
forget that he existed, so fuckyou.
Anyway, but Quaas' like, okay.Well, you play the charade. You

(48:21):
ease your conscience and, if youwanna, but I think we all know
where this is gonna end up,which is truer words, honestly,
because we do all know wherethis is gonna end up. And then
we come back to the presentbecause Nick is like, woah, god.
Where did that come from?
Just poof popped into my head. And Natalie is convincing him to
take on Joey. She's like, comeon. You've had kids at your

(48:45):
house before, and it was theythey're still alive somewhere,
we think. Actually, we just letthem
go. Them.
We just let them go without actually solving that
mob hit thing. So, honestly, Idon't know if she's
a scam. Heard, they were alive.
When they were last fleeing to Alberta, I think they
were fighting. And Tracyactually looks really excited
about this, and it begs thequestion. Does she think she is

(49:07):
setting them up? Tracy's nofool. She knows Natalie likes
Nick, and this is gonna get Nickand Natalie to spend a lot of
time together that they wouldn'tnormally spend time together.
Yeah. Because Nick agrees
It might give Tracy a break from Nick.
Oh, I know. And Nick agrees, and he does this, like,
okay. This is, like, littlefrog. Okay. And Natalie's like,
and there are those who say youhave a cold heart.

(49:29):
Who Natalie?
The last episode. Who who Natalie? Dream Who
does that?
About caring for a child with Natalie.
Oh, about her being pregnant. That's the weirdest
scene. Well, in no man to let noman tear us under. That's the
one where he's, like, cold feet, warm heart, or warm heart, cold
feet, or whatever. But, like, who, Natalie?

(49:50):
Who says that? Do you? Is thatyou? Well, you know Nick. He's
got a cool heart.
And then Reese is like, oh,okay. But I'm gonna go ahead and
call juvie anyways because y'allhinky as shit, and I just don't
think this is gonna work out. He's like, just in case. And
Natalie
Sounds like one of Nick's hunches.
Natalie looks at Nick and goes, your place or mine?

(50:12):
And Nick just goes, mine. Itshould probably be Natalie's,
but that's fine. And Nataliealready has, like, a kitchen
with food in it and shit andmore than 1 bedroom.
Yeah.
But it's fine. Okay. Anyway, it's fine. And Nick ends
up going back to the arena. He'slike, I need a minute to process
what just happened to me.
I just got railroaded intotaking yet another human child

(50:35):
into my house, so I'm gonna goto the arena. And this is when
he finds the janitor cleaning inthis closed off crime scene, and
he's like, don't clean in here. And the guy's like, oh, okay.
I'm sorry. And he's like, youshould be.
And he just lets the guy go.Like, this guy isn't in a crime
scene with cleaning materials. He doesn't verify his

(50:56):
employment. He doesn't get whohe is. He doesn't ask him for
ID.
He doesn't ask him anyquestions. He's, like, just
don't clean in here right now.And the guy's, like, oh, okay.
Thank you. And Nick's like, you're so welcome.
And then he just walks aroundthe corner, and there's, like,
an one open locker. There's
Okay. It's his locker that had crime scene tape over

(51:18):
it, and the tape had fallendown. Yeah. And it's open.
Somebody had opened that locker
Yeah.
That had been shut and sealed. And a guy just left that
had been around the corner rightwhere that locker was.
And Nick's like, oh, good. He's like, I don't have to
break the tape. Sweet. And hejust opens the door, and he

(51:39):
pulls out 2 bulldozer costumes, and he's like, hell, yeah.
That's evidence.
Let me rub my hands all over it.
He's not shocked. This thing is unlocked. This is the
least secure crime scene I'veever seen in my life, and he's
like, hell, yeah. That'sevidence. And then we go back to
Nick's, and Joey is actuallycooking in the kitchen, which
okay.
Great. It's got, like, a counterwith a sink in it and and a

(52:02):
stove. It's like the weirdestlittle galley kitchen. It's the
bachelor kitchen. It's like thedefinition of bachelor kitchen.
It's the appearance of a kitchen, the seeming of a
kitchen.
Yeah. And he's like, well, you know, I I knew most of
the cooking. Joey's tellingNatalie. He's like, I knew most
the cooking. Henry likes how Icook.
And she goes, oh, do you likeHenry as much as you like

(52:23):
bulldozer? Or he says, actually,I like Henry almost as much as I
like bulldozer. And Nataliegoes, you know they are the same
person. Right? And he goes, youdon't know much about wrestling,
do you?
Which is kinda cute. You know?Yeah. Yeah. He has, like, a
superhero alter ego.

(52:43):
And Nick arrives, and Natalie'slike, we're making soap. She,
like, announces it really loud. And then he walks she walks over
to Nick, and he goes, oh, howdomestic. Just please don't make
me eat anything. And then hepulls up this costume, which is
stuck in, like, a spiritHalloween bag.
It's, like, shoved in thisplastic bag with, like, ends

(53:04):
popping out the end, and he'slike, I'll find some evidence.
And she's like, oh, it's blackand yellow. That must mean
bulldozer did it because wefound black and yellow fibers
under nitrous. This is so bad. Ican't even with this episode.
Nothing. We don't swab theinside for DNA. We don't there's
no chain of custody. We don'tknow where this bulldozer

(53:27):
costume came from, except itcame out of that locker, but the
locker was sealed and thenunsealed.
Was tampered.
And there was a guy in the crying fucking cat. Anyway,
and she tells him that shedoesn't think Joey knows that
Henry and bulldozer are the sameperson, which we kind of got as
a hint at the very beginning. And Nick's like, oh, okay. Cool.

(53:47):
So he walks over to talk toJoey, and he actually tries to
hypnotize him into rememberingmore than he already said, even
though Joey is clearly scaredand upset and unsettled by this
conversation, And we get thisweird zoom in eye hypnotism
thing where they're like, Nick'seye, Joey's eye, Nick's eye,

(54:08):
Joey's eye with like a heartbeatsound.
And it doesn't work obviouslybecause Nick sucks at this. And
then we cut to, like, Joey'sasleep on the couch, which
again, this is a studioapartment, so it's all one room
and Nick and Natalie are in thekitchen. Like, that's private
and isolated, And they'rehaving, like, a shout
conversation in the kitchenabout how Joey's testimony is

(54:31):
going to get him put into astate facility and get his uncle
behind bars.
Yeah.
And Nick actually says, we aren't done investigating
yet. They aren't.
You've barely done anything.
I mean, they kind of are in that they never actually
intended to investigate thisbecause Joey was like, bulldozer
did it, and they were like Slamdunk. Fucking yes.

(54:51):
Case closed.
And then Nick says, if only his brain was normal. And
that's a quote. And Nataliegoes, it was normal though. He
got this way from like a highfever and meningitis when he was
little. So it's damage, anddamage could, and I'm just

(55:12):
spitballing here, be healed.
And maybe there's a way that youcould do that. And Nick just
goes, no. And she's like, it'sjust it's just a teeny little
wafer. It's just like thetiniest little

Matt (55:30):
bit of

Rachel (55:30):
A tiny little drop of vampire blood.
He's like she's like, I'm not asking you to bring him
over. I'm just telling you togive him just, like, the
littlest bit of vampire blood. And he's like,
no. Did I stutter?
Did I no. Did I fucking stutter? I believe I said no. He
completely shuts her down. He'slike, we are not even
entertaining Didn't we have awhole episode about what happens

(56:00):
when you give people vampireblood?
They stay young, and then theygo a little bit crazy, and they
kill people. I'm pretty sure wehad that episode. It's if looks
could kill. It's in episode 1.Go find it.
Season 1.
Season 1. Sorry. Season 1 episode, whatever. If looks
could kill. And Nick goes, it'snot worth the risk.

(56:20):
It might even be temporary. Andthat goes, we don't know that.
We don't know if it's risky. Wedon't know if it's temporary,
which means it could be risky, that. And he says, and it's
true, it's not fair to Joey.
It is not fair to Joe to treatJoey when he cannot consent to

(56:44):
the treatment you are giving himbecause even you don't know the
parameters of the treatment youare giving him.
It's an experimental treatment.
Yeah. And Natalie goes, and sending his uncle to prison
is? Do you know what the reason?
It's not even experimental. So, literally, the
scientific method is fuck aroundand find out.

(57:04):
Yeah.
And but you have to write it down for it to be an
experiment.
Yeah. Because she's,
like, Natalie Natalie's, like, no notes.
Have no notes. Well, she says in sending his uncle to
prison is, and then, they'restill investigating. The only
reason his uncle is gonna go toprison over this is because

(57:25):
everyone is doing what LauraStone thought they were doing in
the previous episode, which isbeing wildly incompetent at
their job.
Yeah.
If for one second we were like, why was that janitor
in a sealed crime scene cleaningup? None of this would be

(57:46):
necessary. And Nick actuallysays he's like, come on. We are
still investigating. We haveliterally nothing on this guy.
He doesn't say this, but it'strue. We have literally nothing
on this guy except that Joe it'sJoey seeing him. And Joey still
he saw a man in a full face maskkill another guy. This isn't
getting through any court oflaw. Okay.

(58:09):
Hopefully. I don't know. Maybeif you had a really lax jury in
judge. But
Maybe in Texas.
Maybe in Texas. They're like, oh, black eye? God. Done.
Okay.
Oh, black mask? Same thing. SoNatalie
Close enough.
Nicholas enough. Natalie's like, Natalie wanted a
guinea pig is what she wanted. She wanted a guinea pig, and
would you look at that? Theuniverse just threw one in her

(58:34):
lap.
Woah. Not even like she volunteered for this.
Oh. Oh. Wait. Oh. Yeah.
And they actually wake up Joeybecause they're literally
shouting in the kitchen, andNick is like, I think we all
need some sleep, actually. Weall need some sleep. Where's
Natalie gonna sleep? He goesupstairs to bed. He's like, I'm
going to my fuck sheets.
I'll see y'all later. And Joeyhas the couch, which means

(58:57):
Natalie has the
the sheets.
The painting table, the kitchen I don't know where she's
supposed to sleep.
Where's the woman supposed to spend her time? The
kitchen.
Don't even with me right now. Uh-uh. Hang on. I needed a
minute to mentally recover fromthat. And then Joey is like,

(59:19):
it's not even really bedtimebecause the sun's up.
And she's like, well, if you'vebeen up all night, then day is
your night. You know? And then
Unless you are our daughter.
We're not talking

Matt (59:28):
about our daughter right now.

Rachel (59:29):
She's it's okay.
At her sleep or lack thereof.
Just doesn't like to sleep. There's too much
happening in life. Well, youcan't be unconscious for half of
it. That's what
I'm doing. Out every hour through the entire night
just to check that I'm notmissing out on anything.
Yeah.
Because
The FOMO is faxed. FOMO. Yeah. Yeah. And somebody turned

(59:51):
it up to 11, and she didn't knowhow to turn it down.
And Joey is actually like, Iwish Henry was here. Is he
coming back? When am I gonna getHenry? And Natalie's like, oh, I
know a way to get Natalie. Iknow I know a way to get Henry
back.
And so she goes into therefrigerator where she has a
sample of Nick's blood. She whatis it doing? Aging? Why does she
not do this? Why it's in Nick's fridge. But Well,

(01:00:13):
it's not like she can take it to I don't know. It
doesn't fucking

Matt (01:00:16):
have it.

Rachel (01:00:16):
Oh, oh, the plot device put it there.
Oh, okay. Because she pulls the blood out, and she's
like she puts it back. And thenand then she, like, leans on the
refrigerator and puts her handin her mouth, like, I just don't
know. And she must just becontemplating her treachery
because as soon as we come backfrom the commercial break, she's
giving Joey blood against hiswishes. He's like, I don't want

(01:00:38):
it.
And she's like, of course, youdo. And he's like, it's gonna
hurt. And she's like, well, itmight hurt a little, but it's
gonna help you. He's like, Idon't like it. Drugs are bad.
And she's like, not this drug. He's like, no. I do not consent.
And she's like, what's consent?
Who needs consent?
It's fine. She goes, I think you're brave just like
your wrestling friends. Aren'tyou? And he goes, I guess, and

(01:01:02):
she goes, good boy. But I thinkyou're brave.
Just like your wrestlingfriends, you are brave. Aren't
you, Joey?

Natalie (01:01:14):
Yeah. I'm brave.

Rachel (01:01:18):
Good boy. Now show me how brave you can really be.
That's some fucked up shit,Natalie. Yeah. Using his
interest against him
Yeah.
In a way that you're not sure whether it will actually
cause permanent harm. That'ssome what if this had done

(01:01:38):
something? What if he hadactually succeeded in ending his
own life at the end of thisepisode? Right. Good boy.
I know you're brave just likeyour wrestling friends. And then
we cut to the arena, and they'remaking a promo memorializing
Nitro, And they immediately gofrom, like, we're sorry. Nitro
died, and the other guy's like,I'm not sorry. And then they go

(01:02:00):
to some showmanship. And theyneeded a promo to replace the
one that they had with Nitro andBulldozer because, of course,
Nitro is not gonna be fightinganymore.
So it's sort of like theheartless business is just
rolling on sort of thing. Myfavorite part about this is the
promoter guy is like speakinginto the camera, and behind him,
the wrestlers are like cuddling.Like, they're supposed to be

(01:02:21):
fighting, but one has the otherguy in his arms, and they're
just, like, hugging each other.It's
really funny. I noticed or I remarked that the promoter
does a pretty good job Yeah. With acting.
Yeah. Oh, no. He's good. He's sweet.

Natalie (01:02:36):
From a

Rachel (01:02:36):
full, like, full aggressive, you know, talking,
like, selling this
Yeah.
This event. And then as soon as the camera's off, he's
like, boom. Yeah. Chill.
He Yeah.
Like, instantly changes body language and his facial

(01:02:57):
expression.
Yeah. Yeah. And the same janitor who we saw earlier who
looks a little bit like StoneCold. Every time I see him, I'm
like, not him. Not Stone Cold.
He actually, like, tries to callthe promoter guy over. He's
like, can I talk to you for aminute? He's like, not right
now, Johnny. I got policebusiness. And he just turns
around and They're
right there in the corner of the ring. They had to

(01:03:22):
have been there the whole time. That would have been so awkward.
Like, they were behind thecameraman.
He's like, I can't

Matt (01:03:31):
I can't.

Rachel (01:03:32):
The police have literally been standing in
there. This
feels like a slapstick bit. It's like, hold on. I gotta
go do I gotta go talk to thesepeople. And he just turns around
Yeah.
And the camera pans 6 inches to the right. Boop. There

(01:03:55):
they

Matt (01:03:55):
are. Yeah.

Rachel (01:03:56):
It feels like the slapstick bit where it's like
the people sitting at the tableand then the guy in the kitchen,
and he's running back and forthbetween the doors. Mhmm. Yeah.
That's exactly what it feelslike. And then we go up to his
office.
He's like, to my office becauseit's really awkward that you
guys have been fucking stayinghere this whole time.

Matt (01:04:11):
We gotta go

Rachel (01:04:12):
Just watching this film.
So he takes him up to his office, and he's like, that
Henry is gonna cost me a lot ofmoney. I hope he rots. And
they're like, wow. That's not alot that's not nice to say about
him. He's like, Nitro was my topwrestler.
The only reason wrestlers likeBulldozer exist is to get beat
up by wrestlers like Nitro.

(01:04:33):
And so Nick pulls a, well, actually, we we don't
really have any evidence. Sowe're back to square 1.
Oh, no. No. Not yet. No. They're convinced this guy is
the bad guy.
They're just here to to dot thei's and cross the t's.
Do the due diligence. Excuse me.

(01:04:53):
The i's and dot the t's. That's what they're here to do.
Yeah.
And so, the promoter is like, the bull bulldozer was,
like, moody. He was hard to dealwith. He's annoying. He didn't
have a lot of friends in thelast couple of months. And Nick
is like, so why'd you keep himaround?
And he goes, well, because hewas getting kinda better, and he
had that kid to support. I had aweak moment. I'm human. Okay?

(01:05:14):
And Nick is like, well, why doyou think he would risk it by
killing Nitro?
Like, what's the motive here?Well, oh, well, the the the
what?

Matt (01:05:22):
The the

Rachel (01:05:22):
Wait. You have to have a
Motive. Motive? Motive. Motive? Motive?
Motto? Is that, like, a sayingthat like, take back the night
is a motive. Okay. Alright. Doeshe have a motive?
And the guy's like, Yeah. Nitrowas threatening to bring him up

(01:05:42):
on charges with the wrestlingassociation, And Nick's like,
ding ding ding. Got him again. Then we come back to Joey
Slam double slam dunk.
Hell, yeah. We're just buttoning this up so darn.

Matt (01:05:56):
This feels

Rachel (01:05:56):
so good. And then we come back to Joey watching the
promo, like, the wrestling promothat we just filmed, and he
actually turns it off. And heturns around to talk to Natalie
because Natalie's like, don'tdon't don't don't don't. Fucking
damn it. She's trying to work onthis laptop, and it's giving her
rage.
This sounds exactly like Rachel using the computer.
Shut up. Then nobody needs to know that.

(01:06:17):
Just a okay. Rachel. Rachel. Imagine you are trying
to modem something
Yeah.
Somewhere else. Yeah. Would you struggle with that?
Of course, I would. I don't even know what she's
talking about. She goes, I'mtrying to do modemization. She
goes,
I'm trying to do Modeming modem. This is the
first time I've ever heard modem

Matt (01:06:38):
as a verb.

Rachel (01:06:41):
Maybe Nick wrote this line. Yeah. Yeah. I wrote this
line. He was like, modems are oncomputers.
Right? It's fine.
This is English. You can verb any noun and noun any verb.
Yeah. It's fine. Natalie's had a computer at her
home because in undue process, she looks up the bad guy at her
own house. So she has Yeah.
But she does that. It's a modem a report.

(01:07:03):
That's true. She's trying to modem a report to her
office, and she's got, like, alittle booklet, like, a
extraction This is whatever thisruns. And Joey comes over and
he's like, oh, she gets up toget coffee to, like, calm down.
He sits at that and he, like, tap, tap, taps 2 things, looks
at the at the book because as weall know, and I think everyone

(01:07:27):
in this room can agree, andeverybody listening to the
podcast can agree, the only kindof smart is computer smart.
I have a spin on this.
Oh, okay.
Vampire blood.

Matt (01:07:40):
I

Rachel (01:07:40):
love it. You, like, literally spun that up with your
hand. You, like, rolled itaround for a minute. Okay. Go
ahead.
Go ahead.
For vampires, blood conveys memories.
Yeah.
And we all know that Nick is really proficient with

(01:08:03):
computers.
He's always f nineing when he should be f 10ing. No.
No. No. No.
No. No. You wanna get rid of it.Okay. Hold on.
Alright.
Nick
Alright.
Corrected Skanky when Skanky was f 10ing when he
should have been f 11 Back
when we used to have computers on our desk at the
precinct, which we don'tanymore.
When Yeah. When Nick's partner always has a computer at

(01:08:26):
their desk
Yeah.
Which is still the case.
No. No. Tracy doesn't have one.
Tracy has one.
Does she?
She did on the last episode.
Oh, okay.
Maybe this episode. But I I remarked on it last episode.
So when Natalie injected Nick'sblood into Joey
Okay.
It carried with it all of Nick's computer proficient.

(01:08:50):
Wait.
Wait. And now he knows how to modem?
And now he knows how to modem things.
Wait. Wait. Wait. You really wanna go there? Okay.
Let's whoop whoop. Let's back upa little bit because we also
know that the only blood in avampire's body is the blood of
the things, Rick. So he nowfeels extremely proficient at.

(01:09:11):
Except this blood has been processed by Nick.
Yeah. But it's still cow blood. It's not like he turned
it into people blood. Natalieinjected this kid with vampire
processed
cow blood. Jeanette would do their bitey bitey
thing.
Yeah. Which they haven't in a while.

(01:09:32):
That's They would they would convey memories to each
other.
Yeah.
So when Jeanette bit Nick, she would get some of
Nick's lived experience. Right?
Okay.
So, ostensibly, after the blood has been processed
into Nick's veins, it nowcontains

(01:09:53):
Okay.
Nick's memories.
Alright. Alright. I'll give you that one. That's fine.
I'll give you that one.
In fact, Nick has probably beendrinking human blood, so it's
probably human blood. Oh, yeah.Anyway
Same Lacroix as usual.
She is now able to modem her report over because he

(01:10:13):
figures out her computer with, like, 2 tap taps. And Natalie
goes, it worked. It worked. And,spoiler alert, she doesn't mean
the computer. She means
That's not what she's excited about.
No. And let me come back to Henry in the interrogation
room, and they're like, so whenwere you gonna tell us that
Nitro, was bringing you up oncharges? And he was like, oh,

(01:10:34):
it's just like locker room talk. That's fine. They're like, oh,
no.
He had scheduled a meeting withthe governing board. This was
fucking happening, and Henryblandishes a little. He
obfuscates some, and then Nickis like, okay. Okay. So let me
guess.
It's drugs.
Sniff sniff.

(01:10:55):
It's drugs. And he's like, what? No. What? No.
No. No. And then Nick looks overat Tracy, and he's like, cool.
Cool. Tracy, can you go order ablood test for our friend here,
for mister Henry Ellis?
And he's like, okay. Hold on.Hold on. Hold on. Hold on.
We don't we don't we don't needto do that because, when I said

(01:11:17):
I was I
just remembered.
See how I said I was in the room because I had a twinge
in my back? I was actually inthe stairwell making a buy.
With the guy who said he never saw me that day.
Yeah. And he says, I started using a couple of years
ago. Things weren't going well.I was losing my cut.
Losing my cut.
I was losing my edge, and he said, Joey's hero was the

(01:11:37):
bulldozer. Because when hisparents died and he came to live
with me, he didn't haveanything. And then as soon as he
found wrestling, he lit up, andthat was his thing. And I was
his hero, and I didn't wannastop being his hero. And he
goes, you don't know what it'slike to have someone put you on
a pedestal like that.
And Nick's like, I do actually, like, switched back into a

(01:12:00):
flashback. And this is when
Nick Now that you mentioned it.
This is when Nick and Hayden Christensen, who is also
called Andre, but it's HaydenChristensen, are eating at this
table. Actually, Andre iscarving a cross because Nick's
come comes over, and he's like,oh, a cross. Yeah. That's that's
looking great. You can set thatover there.
You could set that over on theside. And Andre goes, uncle

(01:12:22):
Nicholas, why don't you eat withme? And he goes, after I eat
after you're asleep, Andre, which, truer words as we will
soon find out. Are you lookingto see if this was the first
thing he was in? And then wehear, like, tap, tap, tap, and
it's Lacroix.
I think it's funny that Lacroix literally means the

(01:12:44):
cross.
Yeah. Lucian Lacroix is like the light of the cross.
Yeah. Yeah. He knocks.
Lacroix knocks, which I don'tknow why because then he just
walks right the fuck out. Tap,tap, tap. Oh, yeah.

Matt (01:12:56):
He just walks straight.

Rachel (01:12:58):
And then he goes, aren't you gonna introduce me?

Matt (01:13:00):
It's it's

Rachel (01:13:00):
just a little bit of warning before he comes in. It's
not a request to enter It's
a I'm coming. Work. I'm here. He goes, aren't you gonna
introduce me? I knew yourmother.
The first pop up notification.
He is the 1st troll, so why not? Yeah. And then Andre

(01:13:21):
goes, really? Mom never talkedabout you. And Nick is like, shh
shh shh shh shh shh shh.
Just go to bed. And Andre islike, cool. See you later. Bye.
He goes to bed.
And Lacroix goes, he has hereyes with this really longing
tone.
Poor Lacroix.
God. We had Nigel Bennett for 3 seasons, and 4

(01:13:43):
episodes from the end, wefinally like Nigel. Just go for
broke, man. Do what you want. Wecould've done that 3 years ago.
Make us feel all of LaCroix's emotions.
Oh, I'm so sad that this is we finally get, like, the
LaCroix you always want. Notthe, the, like, mustache, girly

(01:14:07):
villain, but the, like, I am acomplex, deep character. And for
a for a villain to feel real, heshould have a point you agree
with.
Yeah.
And I completely agree that look that Nicholas was not
in the right speaking for Fleur. And, of course, she wouldn't

(01:14:28):
have had Andre, but, I mean, what happens to Andre? Andre
runs off. Nick doesn't chasehim. We don't find out what
happens to Andre.
We never find out.
He could run out in the snow and starve to death in the
forest. We have no idea. And ifhe dies, like, a month after
after he runs off, then all ofit was for fucking nothing. It

(01:14:49):
was for nothing.
She could for Nick's vanity.
She could have had a love. And even if they were only
together for, like, I'm sorry. Here I am. This is why you
handed me a tissue.
Yes.
It could have been together even if they were only
together for like a 100 years, and then they realized that they
had grown apart, they could haveeventually come back together.

(01:15:10):
She would have at least
gotten back together. Years and 11 months longer than
they got.
I'm so fucking mad, and I'm never gonna not be mad about
it. It's fine. It's fine. AndLacroix is like, okay. Cool.
Does he know your secret? AndNick is like, what? No. Andre
loves me for who I am. AndLaCroix is like, you don't know
who you are.

(01:15:32):
And he's like, you look back toshow that. He's like, no. No.
What's more what's important tohim is who I am, not what I am.
Andre loves me for me.
He loves me for me, Not becauseand LaCroix goes,

Matt (01:15:44):
mhmm.

Rachel (01:15:45):
Sure. And then he just leaves. He's like, yes. Let's
see how that plays out. And thenwe come back, and we find out
from Henry that it's actuallyEddie Phillips.
Yeah. Eddie Phillips, the guywho is the trainer. He's the one
who's the seller because he'slike, what if because he's like,
you know, that's a drug can youknow, using drugs is not great,

(01:16:06):
but it doesn't get you off themurder charge. He's like, what
about if it's my alibi? And Ican have somebody back me up
that I was there.
And then he actually goes, isthere any chance we can keep the
steroid thing quiet? No. That'snot a okay. That's fine. That's
fine.
And then they end up walkingout, and Nick returns to his
apartment to find Joey typing onthe computer and trying to

(01:16:29):
access a university library. Andhe's like, Natalie, it's asking
for a password. Do you have one?And she goes, password? I
thought you were in a chat room.
So not only did she give thischild vampire blood, she gave
him unrestricted access to early2000's Internet. Natalie, chat

(01:16:49):
rooms were not all okay. Andthen Natalie comes out of the
bathroom, and Nick gets
might be on 1
of them. I know. Hey. I made a friend. His name is
Rosebud.
She seems really cool, ButNatalie comes out of the
bathroom and Nick gives her thislook. That's like, are you

(01:17:10):
fucking serious right now? Andshe's like, what? I mean, the
betrayal. He let her have hisblood as a like, that was a
gesture of trust.

Matt (01:17:24):
Right.

Rachel (01:17:24):
He's contagious. He's fucking contagious, and he gave
her her his blood as, like, a, Iknow you're gonna do good things
with this. You're gonna help me.
I know you only have my best interests at heart.
So I'm gonna let you have this, and she takes it and
gives it to somebody
Injects it into a literal child.

(01:17:47):
After he explicitly told her, no. That's a fallen idol
right there. Yeah. Yeah. And shegoes, I'm sorry, Nick.
I had to. And he looks at herlike, the fuck you did? Sorry,
Nick. I had to. She goes, I hadto do something.

(01:18:12):
I couldn't just stand by andwatch. And Nick goes, how much
did you give him? He's gottaknow. Is this kid gonna turn
into a vampire? Vampire?
What am I working with here? What the fuck did you do,
Natalie? And she's like, itwasn't a lot. It was like, I
don't know. I didn't write itdown.
I have no notes.
I took no notes.
2 cc's maybe. I don't know. A very small dose. And he

(01:18:33):
maybe now he can give you alead, and you can get Henry off
the hook. And then everything'scopacetic.
Everything's fine now and Nickgoes, including Joey. Is Joey
fine now? And that's when Joeystarts yelling at the computer
and throwing stuff. Almost, like, one might say irritable as
if you were on steroids, whichis probably the paradox you're

(01:18:56):
making here. And Nick pulls himback, and he's like, unhand me,
sir.
And Nick's like, do youunderstand what is happening to
me? And Joe what's happening toyou? Do you understand what's
happening to you? And Joey goes, yeah. Natalie said she gave me a
shot, and it made me smarter.
And Nick walks over like, oh, ishe fine? Did that look fine to

(01:19:17):
you? And Natalie goes Can
you, Natalie, can you pronounce mood swings?
Irritability? Homicidal? Can you can I buy
Violant tendencies?
Can I buy a vowel? And Natalie goes, oh, so he's a
little edgy. It's totallyunderstandable. And he's like,
you didn't even consider theside effects. How many times do

(01:19:41):
I have to tell you that youdon't have even the tiniest
fucking clue of what I gothrough every single day.
You have absolutely noconception of what it means to
be a vampire and what I amalways not doing. Remember when
you asked me to change yourbrother and you asked me what

(01:20:02):
happened to my humanity and Itold you that you were the only
one that ever thought I had any?Did I fucking stutter?
I wasn't exaggerating.
Do you remember when I changed your brother into a
vampire and you told me he wasthe best guy ever and he was
actually a white knight, andwithin 24 hours, he went on a
murder spree? Do you recallthat, Natalie? And then we cut

(01:20:26):
to Joey giving a pre a newstatement at the precinct, and
he's giving basically the samestory. And Tracy goes, wow. He
just seems so much morearticulate.
Thank you, Tracy. Thank you forthe observation. And Natalie
just goes, yeah. He's a lot morerelaxed now. He was under so
much stress.
He is still in the precinct. Hisuncle is still arrested. He's
giving another statement. He'snot under stress now, but it's

(01:20:50):
fine. It's fine.
And Nick is actually in thereleading him through this
statement. And not leading himas in feeding him lines, but,
like, okay. Let's put ourselvesback in there. Like, let's
really remember. What else doyou remember?
Was there anything unusual? Andhe says, well, he didn't have
this robe that I gave him afterthe promo, and he was wearing

(01:21:11):
these weird gloves. Like, theyweren't they weren't leather
gloves. They were different, andhe actually refused to talk to
me. Well, he might not be Henry.
If it was Henry, he would havejust talked to me. It's not
Henry, and they're like, goddamnit.
Wipe the tape. No. We can't lose this case.
Got nothing now. He said it wasn't Henry, and we'll slam

(01:21:32):
fucking dunk it's not Henry.
This statement is contradicting our eyewitness
right after the scene.
He's like, okay.
Throw it out.
Okay. So giving him medicine to clarify his
statement, to make his statementmore valid implies that Natalie

(01:21:55):
believed his statement wasunreliable previously, and that
they were hinging a whole murderconviction on just his
eyewitness statement which shedid not believe was accurate.
Because she felt he needed tohave a shot of vampire blood in
order to be out actually able tosay what happened to him, which

(01:22:16):
implies she didn't believe hewas previously capable of saying
what happened to him.
Right.
I just wanna throw that out there. The application of a
remedy implies she believed hehad a problem that needed to be
remedied. Yeah. I'm just gonnaget 2 plates already. Why not

(01:22:36):
throw a 3rd plate on there?
I'm going to drop that rightthere. And this is when Joey
says, Henry would have talked tohim and it proves it wasn't
Henry and Henry, and everyone'slike, well, there goes that.
Even Reese is like, you'rewithout a suspect now, veteran.
And Tracy goes, working on it.And Joey goes with Natalie back
to the morgue because they'relike, well, that just lets Henry

(01:22:58):
completely off the hook.
After we confirm his alibi, itactually does. So
congratulations. All they everhad to do was confirm that
alibi, and they could none ofthis all was necessary. And
while they're there, Joey'slike, can I check out the cold
room? And Natalie's like, areyou sure you wanna include this
on the tour?
He's like, I can't go to themorgue and not look at a couple
of stiffs. Oof. And then he goesin and checks out Nitro's body

(01:23:22):
and he says stupid. Like he saysstupid a lot in this episode and
it it's always jarring to mebecause we actively don't use
stupid at home. It's just one ofthose words that I just find
triggering.
So we usually say silly orsomething else, but never
stupid. So he when every time hesays it in this episode, it
stands out to me, and so helooks at Nitro, and he goes
stupid. And Natalie goes, what'sstupid? And she's like he says

(01:23:45):
stupid what my uncle does tolook like this. Yeah.
Yeah. And this is when we catchEddie, and Nick actually just
shortcuts it. He whooshes intothe stairwell, and he's like,
hi, Eddie, and he just grabs himand takes him. Yoink. Yeah.
Yoink. He goes, where the helldid you come from? And bap badda
da. We have now caught Eddie. Sothat just we didn't need to make
that plot any longer.

(01:24:05):
We got Joey shit to talk about. And then Nick is actually on the
phone in the promoter's office, and he's like, well, we got
Henry's alibi, and we got ourdrug collar. So 2 birds, 1
stone, good to go. And thepromoter is, like, shouting on
the other end of the line, andhe goes, can you make sure that
they know that to the best of myknowledge, this is a drug free

(01:24:27):
sport? And Reese goes, yeah.
And blue pigs whistle Dixie inthe dark.

Natalie (01:24:31):
Please tell him that we knew nothing of this. To the
best of my knowledge, this is adrug free sport.

Nick (01:24:38):
Did you get any of that?

Matt (01:24:39):
Yeah. And blue pigs whistled Dixie in the dark.
Alright.

Rachel (01:24:47):
I don't know what that means.

Matt (01:24:48):
I don't

Rachel (01:24:48):
know what that means.
It sounds unlikely.
It was I feel
like I should know that.
That was the quote on IMDB.
Blue pig's little Dixie in the dark? Yeah. I feel like
we should know. This is we livein land, so which is to say the
shitty southern United States. He goes, find me another
suspect.
Turn that place upside down andshake it hard. I feel like this

(01:25:12):
is really, really thoughtlessadvice for Reese to give. Like,
just pick a guy and make himyour suspect. Jesus Christ. How
hard can it be?
We picked that guy at random.Pick another one. And I like to
think that the turn that placeupside down and shake it hard is
actually in honor of BeefcakeBooty Short, who for sure died
of the plague because we havenot seen him since fever.

(01:25:37):
I Googled blue pigs whistle dixie, and the only
result
Is forever night.
Is the forever night episode.
Can we take a moment of silence for beefcake booty
short? Thank you for joining us.
Now you just have to remember to not trim that silos.
I can make I could put it back in. So at the morgue,

(01:25:57):
Joey's using a computer still, but he's like, boop boop. This
is me using the computer. Kindaboop boop. Goddamn it, Matthew.
Come fix it. And so he can't useit anymore, so, obviously, that
means he's going back to the wayhe was. And this is when Henry
shows up, and he's like, Joey,my buddy. Like, I'm so excited
to see you. And Joey's like, no.

(01:26:18):
He's yelling at Natalie. He'stoo busy to greet Henry. And
he's like
He's like, give me more of the shot.
He's like, if Henry can have a shot for his muscles, I
should be able to have a shotfor my brain.
And Henry's like
You what now?
The fuck are you talking about?
You what now? Henry is confused and frustrated as he
damn well should be.

(01:26:39):
Yes.
Yeah.
Outraged? Completely ragely.
Yeah. And he's like, Joey, sit down. We're gonna
figure out what's happening. He's like, don't talk to me like
that, Henry. I'm not stupid.
I know you shoot up. And he,like, confronts Natalie. Henry's
like, what is he talking about? What the hell did you do to him?

(01:26:59):
What the hell did you do to him?
Which good question. That's anexcellent question.
Sanctioned medical procedure did you give my minor
child without my consent anddirectly against his consent?
Natalie.
Yeah. And so Joey snatches Natalie's bag and
pushes Henry down and yeeps. Heleaves. And then he goes to

(01:27:24):
Nick's to get more blood becausehe knows where the blood came
from, and now he's got a syringein the blood. Pack and play.
He's ready to go. So let me goback to the arena, and Nick and
Tracy are looking through thelockers. This is a really
fucking long time after thecrime, and these lockers are in
public spaces when people havehad plenty of chances to dispose
of evidence. Yeah. What are youhoping to find?

(01:27:47):
And there's actually a momentwhere this wrestler behind Tracy
slams his hand on the locker, and he scares both Nick and
Tracy like they both jump andturn. That's aggressive. That's
a super aggressive action, tothese 2 police officers who are
investigating a murder, and theydon't say anything. We, in fact,
make an immediate joke becauseTracy pulls a jockstrap out of

(01:28:09):
the locker and holds it up

Matt (01:28:11):
Yeah.

Rachel (01:28:11):
And makes a face. Okay. And then we immediately talk to
that same asshat wrestlerbecause he's getting his mended
uniform back from Johnny, who's,like, the jack of all trades.
And they're like, oh, what whatwas that all about? And he's
like, oh, that guy doeseverything.
He fixes all of our stuff. Hefixes our mends our costumes,

(01:28:31):
everything. They're like, oh,does he have access to all the
lockers? And he's like, yeah.
Duh.
Did they never ask? Did no one ask if anyone else had
access to the locker room oraccess to the lockers? They were
just like, well, if it's in hislocker, it's his and it's
evidence, and he did it.
We already have an eyewitness statement. Oh my god.

(01:28:54):
We don't need to investigateanymore.
And Tracy goes, he's kinda big for handyman, and the
guy's like, yeah. He tried tojoin, but he washed out, and he
keeps looking for anotherchance. Wow. Is that what they
call a motive? Is that is that amotive?
Once again, this guy is just, like, mid thirties dad

(01:29:15):
bod.
Yeah. And he actually bolts. Nick, like, looks over at
him, and he's like, oh, shit. And he dips, and then Nick
pursues him. And then we go backto Joey because Joey's at
Nick's, and he breaks themirror, like, the mirror that
has been in every season over onthe wall.
It's the one that he sees inLaquan and Curioser and
Curioser. Mhmm. It's like a it'sbeen there forever, but, hey, we

(01:29:35):
don't need to get this settogether at
the beginning. Of the end.
So he just bangs on the glass with the end of a
candlestick, and he breaks it.And then he, like, stares at
himself in this brokenreflection, which is really
heartbreaking because whatNatalie does to this poor child
is really fucking heartbreaking. And then Nick whooshes up behind
Johnny meanwhile, and he ends upthrowing him against the wall.
Like, they're, like, grabbingeach other's neck, and he goes,

(01:29:57):
give it up, Charlie. And he'slike, vampire voice.
And this is where you know Garrett, this is like this
one. Garrett's vanity scene.
Yeah. Because he's like, nah. He throws him against the
wall and he goes, now I know whyhe washed out.
If I, a mild mannered homicide detective, can just

(01:30:21):
toss this guy against the wall, what chance does he have in a
real wrestling match? Or maybeI'm just so manly that I could
be a wrestler.
Well, maybe that was his next line, but then his phone
rings. And it's actually Natalietelling Nick, Joey's missing.

(01:30:43):
And he's like, oh, okay. Tracy
Totally takes the wind out of Nick's side.
Know. He's like, can you can you wrap this up? Because,
they're having a problem withJoey. And she's like, oh, okay.
And so meanwhile, Joey's stillin Nick's apartment but
apparently investigating hisfuck sheets because he's in his
room.
He finds the box of ravenmatches. Like, you thought their

(01:31:04):
use as a plot device was over, but ho ho no. They're back
because he's like, oh, theraven. That sounds great. So
Nick flies to the loft, and heactually arrives just before
Natalie and Henry, and he findsthe fridge open, and he runs
over, and he's like, oh, shit.
He took the blood, and hedoesn't close the fridge.

(01:31:27):
Come on, dude.
Just fuck. He's not used to having anything in it that
matters, I guess. Yeah. So So itdoesn't matter. But then we go
to Joey at the Raven, and weactually get a look of what his
vision looks like, and it lookslike the lady's vision did and
if looks could kill the, like, swimming thing.
But to him, it looks likeeverybody's laughing at him. So
this woman comes over to talk tohim because he's combed his

(01:31:47):
hair. He got his
hair wet and brushed it forward.
Yeah. And
And this this girl comes over, I guess, to flirt with
him.
Yeah. And then he gets all ragey, murdery. He breaks a
glass bottle, and he, like, holds it up to this lady's neck.
Is everyone at the Raven 12?Everybody in this scene looks
like bring your child to workday.
We'll put them in the Raven.

(01:32:08):
Okay. So after fever, right, there's a lot of there's
a lot of opened up space. There's a lot of vacancies in
the vampire population.
Okay.
So we need some new recruits.
And we know it was not about changing a child into a
vampire.
Teenagers.
Yeah. I don't know. I just wrote, is this the bronze,

(01:32:31):
like, from Buffy?
The the the club that the high schoolers go to?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. And then we cut back to the precinct because
Johnny is, like, in theinterrogation room with his head
down, and they're like, wow. Wegot a full confession. All we
had to do was ask the guy whoactually did it, and he just

(01:32:53):
told us everything we needed toknow. Who fucking knew?
And that's just to wrap up thatplot line. Did you like that
plot line? Because it does now.
It's gone.
It's gone.
Bye bye.
And Reese looks over at Tracy, and he's like, where's
your partner? And she's like,no. He's having some problems
with Joey. And he's like, oh,okay. And then then we come in
because Tracy not Tracy.

(01:33:13):
Natalie and Nick and Henry areat the precinct, and Natalie has
handed Henry a an unlabeledbottle of pills. And he's like,
oh, you gave these to Joey?
The handwritten on the white label is good brain pills.

Matt (01:33:36):
No. No. No. No. It's

Rachel (01:33:39):
Smart pills. Ritalin.
And she goes he goes, you gave these pills to Joey?
And she goes, yeah. We had tohelp his mental processing so
that we could use, like, processing so that he could, you

(01:34:02):
know, give us a proper statementand get you off the hook as if
that were the only way toexonerate.
It's the only way.
So to be clear to be clear, they took Joey
immediately at his word withoutattempting to confirm anything
even knowing that he wascognitively impaired. They took

(01:34:25):
him to a random detective'shouse and not an official safe
house. That random attackdetective, keeps telling Henry,
his legal caregiver, that, oh,yes. I confess we gave him
experimental drugs, and we'resorry with unknown side effects

(01:34:48):
without your permission. Eventhough all of this is Natalie
and Nick is being extremelygenerous in
making even
small amount
of money. Saying, we're sorry.
Yeah. No. No. Who's no. Anyway and lucky you, you're
staying out of prison because wegave him this experimental
medication, which means we didnot do any fucking

(01:35:09):
investigating.
You're welcome. And then therandom detective is, like, oh, I
have since lost your childbecause the side effects of
volatility and rage made Joeystable, and now I have no idea
where he is, if he's in danger,or if these side effects are

(01:35:31):
permanent. This poor guy didnothing. He did nothing.
He was doing his best
He was
to live his life and take care of his nephew.
He took yes.
He did Good, like, dad.
Yes. He did steroids. Yes. He was buying them
illegally. Yes, he was takingthem in pursuit of being able to

(01:35:53):
continue a career he perceivedas bringing Joey joy.
And in response, he had hischild taken away, administered
experimental medication withouthis consent, without Joey's
consent
Held without evidence.
Ultimately almost leads to Joey's death at his own hand.
It gives him suicidaltendencies.

(01:36:15):
And paranoia.
And they are so lucky that Henry is only mad that Joey
now knows that he was takingsteroids, and now he's no longer
Joey's hero. And then he cannever get that back. That's all
he's focusing on, and they areso lucky because that man that
man had a lot of ammunition. Andit's so much, it actually forces

(01:36:39):
Nick back into a flash back.
Again.
Again. And this is when he remembers his little snacky
closet.
The the giant, like, pit room.
Yeah. This is, I guess, the state
of the building.
The basement? I don't know. It's his snack basement,
and it's full of unconscious

(01:36:59):
strewn upon the floor.
Just lying about in pods, which he feels he feels
compelled to talk to in thecreepiest, weirdest way
possible. He's like, oh, hello.
He didn't even have lines. Gary just improvise.

(01:37:21):
It's just like, just riff, man. He's like, I got
this. He's like, oh, hello. You're all I've been thinking
about all day. Was it as goodfor you as it was for me?
And then he, like, throws herover in the head because because
he hears another heartbeat, andhe's like, oh, look. A second

(01:37:41):
snack has appeared, and he'slike, oh, I've been saving the
last of your life force fortonight. And he, like, tips this
woman back against his chest. And then he's, like, rubbing his
open mouth under her hair whilehe's, like, whispering sweet
creepy nothings into the like,it's so weird. And, of course,
Andre shows up right when he'sabout to bite this woman, and he

(01:38:04):
gets really mad, and he runsaway.
And Nick's all like, aw. He hedidn't understand that I was a
vampire, but I still loved him.No, dude. He's running away
because you have a murderbasement. It's not the fact that
if you had just sat him down andbeen like, look.
I'm different from you. I'm avampire, and that means that I
have different needs, but I alsohave cool abilities. I'm kinda

(01:38:26):
like a superhero. I could takeyou flying. It'll be really fun,
but, like, I'm never gonna beable to eat with you, and I'm
never gonna be able to go outduring the day with you.
I'm sure Andre would have beenlike, okay. That sounds really
cool, uncle Nick. Instead
of like be able to take care of you your entire life.
Instead of like, oh, you mean you eat after I go to
sleep? Because that's when yougo and bite the women in your

(01:38:49):
murder basement. Who are thesewomen? And he's Nick is clearly
having a really good time. Thisis his this is what he does
after Andre goes to bed.
He's like, time to go get asnack. And, like, it's a real
good thing. We didn't have asign.
It's his, hold on. I'm trying to come up with a pun for

(01:39:11):
root cellar with blood. Anyway,go ahead.
It's a real good thing we didn't consign Fleur to this
life that he is clearlysuffering through. Okay. I'm not
over it. It's fine.
He suffers later.
And then he's like, no, Andre, wait. Stop. Don't go.

Matt (01:39:32):
Don't go. And then right

Rachel (01:39:35):
after right after Andre leaves, in comes Lacroix.
He's like, damn you, Lacroix. I would have told him,
and Lacroix is like, you messwith the bull, you'd fucking get
the horns.

Matt (01:39:44):
That's what happened.

Rachel (01:39:45):
Told you.
I told you.
Never let you forget Yeah. What you have done to me.
Guess what? We have all of eternity for me to keep
punishing you. I hope you likethat because it's just the
fucking beginning. And I wannapoint out that the last time
that he had a flashback becausea child was in his care and he
needed to take care of it and heneeded to not show this this

(01:40:06):
little person that he was avampire so that she would run
away in terror. He onlyremembered Danny.
He didn't remember Andre.
Right.
He was like, didn't I have another kid? Didn't I have
a oh, yeah. Fleur had a kid, didn't she? Oh my god. That's
when I had that murder basement.
God, those were good days.
I miss that murder basement.

(01:40:26):
I just can't keep them like that anymore. They get up.
They run away. They make phonecalls on their cellular phones
or whatever. God, days are thesedays are complicated.
And he comes back to thepresent, and Nick is consoling
Henry. Like, it's okay, Henry. You didn't do anything wrong.
What the fuck? Who do you thinkis wrong in this situation?

(01:40:49):
He's like, Henry still needsyour help, and we can get him
out of this thing, which istotally your fault and not my
fault or Natalie's fault. Infact, it's all Natalie's fault,
but that's fine. We can get himout of this. We kinda work
together. And then after thispoint, they are at the precinct
because they have no idea whereJoey is.
Right.
Luckily, Reese comes out, and he's like, y'all,

(01:41:11):
there's some serious shit goingdown at the Raven. We just got a
phone call, and there's a guymatching Joey's description, and
he's right in the middle of it,and you think Tracy would be
like, oh, no. The vampire club. But Nick just looks at her and
goes, could be a regular barfight, and she goes, okay. I'll
hang out here.

(01:41:34):
Okay.
It'd be fun to add the, like, USB connect to USB
disconnect noise for each timeTracy enters the scene and exits
the scene.
Yeah. Just like do do do do. Yeah. So Nick says, okay.
I'm on my way, captain.
And Reese goes, you know what?Actually, next time you 2 ask
for joint custody, hire ababysitter. Reese, a child with

(01:41:58):
a cognitive disability that youput in their care is involved in
a violent altercation at a shadynightclub.
You you, Joe Rees, you signed off on these 2 taking
this kid for protective custody.
And this isn't like, Teehee. He's on the he's gone

(01:42:18):
off, and he he joined the circusor he's at the fair, and we
can't get
him on the stairs. We candy bars.
This is he is involved in a violent altercation at a
shady nightclub, and you gotjokes, sir?
Right.
This is meanwhile, Joey's at the Raven, and he's

(01:42:40):
still threatening threateningthis lady, and LaCroix comes out
and goes, oh, a floor show. IsLaCroix wearing a Henley? I
think LaCroix is wearing aHenley. He's got a Henley with a
jacket over top of it, and hisguy
It's an uncolored knit with buttons.
Is it hot in here? It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. No.
LaCroix sees Natalie, and he'slike, oh, it's gonna get good.

(01:43:02):
He picks up his class.
I know. He's just like,
oh. He's not caring.
He really needs to, like, pull out a bag of popcorn
and start Well,
see how your experiment is doing in the field, doctor?

(01:43:25):
And Natalie's like, come onhome, Joey.
Wait. Who who asks about the experiment in the field?
Joey.
She Joey says, did you come to see how your experiment
it does sound like a LaCroixline, but it's Joey. He goes,
did you come to see how yourexperiment is doing in the
field, doctor? And then Joey'slike, I can't go home. I'm gonna
miss out on all this fun. Aren'tI what you expected?

(01:43:48):
Isn't this what you expected tohappen? Actually, no, Joey. I
didn't. I didn't know what wasgonna happen at all. And she
goes, Joey, the medicine youtook has a dangerous violent
side effect.
No shit, Natalie. Thank you. Andthey're like, Joey, would you
let her go? We're like, sorry orwhatever, and that's what Nick
says. He's like, we're sorry.
Can you please let the woman go?And Joey's like, all I wanted to

(01:44:12):
do was be like you. I am likeyou, but nobody sees that. So
they're like, can you just lether stop being a drama king and
just let the woman go? And he'slike, you don't understand.
You gave me the chance to letother people see me the way I
want to be seen, and now that isgoing to all go away, and I'm

(01:44:32):
going to never ever, ever, ever, ever get it back. And I'm not
even gonna remember that I hadit. And then he lets the girl go
because this isn't actuallyJoey. This is what Nick's blood
is making Joey do.
Yeah. He's in an altered state.
Yeah. And he looks at Natalie, and he's like, you knew
this wasn't gonna last, didn'tyou? And Natalie's like,
actually, no. I had absolutelyno idea. Joy.

(01:44:54):
I didn't know what duration Iwas working with here, and I
didn't write it down. So I guessI'm gonna have to do this again.
And then can't call it an experiment.
Because I didn't write anything down. It's
fuck around and find out without writing it down is just

(01:45:14):
a mistake.
Whoopsies. And Natalie goes, I did it to give you a
chance. Like, I don't understandwhy you're mad at me. I did this
for you.
Oh, by the way, thank you for helping me modem
something.
And Joey goes, all these years, I finally know what it

(01:45:36):
feels like, and tomorrow I'm notgonna remember any of this. And
poor Henry is just standingthere like, what are we talking
about? What did you do to him? Ithought you gave him those brain
the smart pills that you handedme.
I thought you just gave him some Ritalin.
I don't understand, but at least he is sincere when he
apologizes. Nick is just like,I'm sorry, whatever. Put the

(01:45:58):
bottle down. But Henry is like, listen, I am sorry about my drug
use. I just wanted to make youhappy, but that's on me and I'm
really sorry.
And Nick has a flashback to whenAndre ran away, like, oh, an
apology? What? Oh, shit. Is thatwhat I should've done? Oh, shit.

(01:46:24):
I never even went to find thatkid.
I guess I really should've found him and
apologized
I really just scaring him. I really just thought
It's too bad that I missed that chance
Oh, fuck.
By 789 years.
Oh, fuck. Oh, well. It's fine. It's but next time, I'll

(01:46:46):
know for next time.
I'll remember that lesson for the next time this
happens.
Then Henry goes, Joey, I need you. You're what keeps me
going. Don't take that away fromme. I love you. I need you.
I accept you for who you are. Ilove you for who you are, which

(01:47:06):
is exactly what Joey needed tohear, but Joey's not in a state
where he can hear it. And heactually looks at Natalie, and
he goes, thanks for the insight,Natalie, and then he slits his
own wrist with the cup bottlethat he has. Yeah. And Natalie's
like, oh, Nick, would you getthat?
Nick Nick does save him. Theysave him. Nick and Natalie save
him, and Henry's just standingthere like, shouldn't I be the

(01:47:27):
one over there? What the fuck ishappening right now? And then
Lacroix looks over, and Nicklooks over at Lacroix, and
Lacroix is this, like, like, half smile.
Like, thanks for the show, man.
Lacroix is like, I am

(01:47:48):
can I get in here? That's actually my that's
actually mine. That's I
bet Henry was headed toward him, and Nick was like,
yoink.
No. No. Let Nat have this. Okay? She needs this
moment.

Matt (01:48:00):
What the fuck

Rachel (01:48:01):
do you mean she needs this moment? This is my child.
She needs this moment with this child that she was
responsible for.
For, like, 2 hours, and look what happened. Look what
happened. This is why sheshouldn't have.
Don't you understand how bad she feels about what she did
to this child?
Apologize to that woman. She feels so bad already. And
then we go to Nick and Natalieat this arena at the arena, the

(01:48:22):
wrestling arena, and Nick iswearing this old man sweater and
matching clothes. Of all thechoices in this episode, it's
the least worst thing, but, honestly, it's up there. And
Natalie goes, aren't we a littleearly?
And Nick's like, not for thisshow. Like, they sit down and he
points over, and it's Henry andJoey, and they're, like, setting
up chairs. And Natalie's like,ah. Shoot. Oh, because he says

(01:48:48):
nice seats, though, and she getsthis, like, manic laugh.
Like, that was so funny, man.
Kathy is so uncomfortable in this situation.
And he says that he talked the promoter quote,
talked to the promoter, hypnotized the promoter into
giving Henry Johnny's job. AndJoey gets to work at the arena,
and he still gets to see theshows, and everything's

(01:49:10):
copacetic. And Natalie stillsmiling goes, he's super lucky.
You know? If he'd opened up hisarm one more time, he probably
wouldn't be here.
Oh, really, Natalie?
Yeah. And then she goes
Oh, really?
She goes, what do they remember? And Nick goes, the
only the part that matters, which means he wiped their
memory of what happened.

(01:49:31):
Yes.
And then Natalie goes, was I wrong, Nick? Hang on. Let
me try to say that with somemore composure.
This is the most gaslighting part.
Was I wrong, Nick? And Nick goes, I guess what you have
to ask yourself is, are Henryand Joey happier now than they
were 3 days ago? Was I wrong,Nick?

Nick (01:49:56):
I guess what you have to ask yourself is, are Henry and
Joey happier now than they were3 days ago? Well,

Rachel (01:50:12):
Yes. Thank you. So who do you pick in the 4th? I mean,
yeah. Because you hypnotizedthem into forgetting all of the
shit that she did to them, sothat they wouldn't sue the ever
loving pants off of your tightwhite ass.

(01:50:33):
Okay? You are so fucking luckyyou can hypnotize people. And
then Natalie looks at Nick, andshe's just like, you tell me.
And he goes, yes. They are.
And she goes, oh, oh, thank god.
That's a load up.
What just happened? Natalie was like, tell me I'm

(01:50:56):
pretty and that everything'sokay. And he's like, okay. Okay.
You're pretty and everything'sfine.
And she's like, oh, thank god.
Dodge that bullet.
I'm pretty sure Nick and Natalie are not the ones who get
to decide whether they arehappier now or whether that was
the correct decision. Do youknow who gets to decide whether
that was the correct decision? The person that was wronged.

(01:51:18):
Yeah.
Okay. And then we get, like, a joke. We gotta have some
fucking jokes. Natalie goes, whodo you pick in the 4th? And Nick
goes, that's horse racing.
This is wrestling. And she goes,oh, right. And then And? Cut to
credits. What just happened?

(01:51:39):
I feel like I got hit by a plottrain, and none of it was good.
And it all just rammed into me.And you know what? I don't
rewatch this episode. I just Idon't, for several reasons.
1, the cognitive disabilityrepresentation is a is not bad,
but it's nineties, and I just Idon't know. It's just not my
favorite. It's my lee is it myleast favorite? There's some

(01:52:02):
boring episodes, and there'ssome bland episodes, and there's
some okay episodes, but this oneis actively bad. Like, it
actively doesn't make sense in anot in a, hoo hoo isn't that
funny.
We're doing quirky things thatdon't make a lot of sense. But
in a I am actively working toharm a child

(01:52:25):
Yeah. I am I am making harmful, exploitative way.
I am making exploitative gas lighty decisions, which
could have very easily resultedin this child taking their own
life. And I don't know. I feellike if there's a bar, maybe
that's the bar for a badepisode. And it's really

(01:52:45):
interesting that it's couchedright in here in the final five
because we got avenging angel, which is killer. We got this
one.
Great. Killer being great. Wegot this one, which is, like,
what the actual I don't evenfucking just like we're about to

(01:53:11):
knock it out of the fucking parkin a a lot. And yet right here
in the middle, it's it's thisup. It's it's fallen.
I don't I just and I'm glad wehad fun, and it makes the
episode a little bit more funbecause we but also, like, oh my
god, Natalie. What the actualshit? I I fully fully say, I

(01:53:34):
will go on record. My canon isthe fallen idol in this is
Natalie, because Natalie hasbeen nothing but above board.
She has been nothing but ourconscience.
She has been our touchstone forreality. She has been the one
who grounds Nick when she heneeds it since I will repay. And

(01:53:56):
in this moment, all gone. Allshe makes that decision to give
that blood to Joey. You how doyou come how do you fucking come
back from that?
Right.
You don't, which is why they laugh at all.
Undermines her her moral
As a character.
Authority. Yeah.
Yeah. And I had honestly forgotten. She I had, like,

(01:54:17):
blacked out. I had forgottenthat she gives him vampire blood
to make him better, make himneurotypical. And I just I don't
even wanna talk about thisepisode anymore.
I just wanna be done with it. Doyou have anything else you wanna
say about it?
Until next time, friends.

Matt (01:54:35):
Bye.

Rachel (01:54:35):
Bye.
