Speaker 1 (00:14):
Welcome into the game.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Playing with head coach Dan Quinn, Logan, Paulson Outum, your
host Brian Colbot, Junr. We're here in the Big Bear
AI Command Center studio. Coach, we appreciate you taking the
time with us because we know what's the bye week?
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yep. How do you plan to make the most of
this time? You know, first things you want to make
sure you can like check in where are the guys
at Where do we do to get you know, the
things to improve upon? At this point, everybody's depleted. How
do we replenished get the things that we need so
like we can absolutely go after it, you know, upon return.
And so you want to make sure you identify things
brah that this is what we got to get done
over these next six games and like work like hell
(00:47):
to go do that. And so what's the schedule?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Look like, I know every coach kind of has something different.
They get four days off, three days off. Some people
don't let any days off. It's like you kind of
like break it up so they can't travel too far
away or whatever. Yeah, how did you guys do it?
Did they get some time away?
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah? Sure, players need it sometimes it's mentally sometimes it's physically.
In this case, it's both you know, mine, body spirit.
Get it all together. For the coaches, some they'll work
on here, some it may take. Ay, this is what
I want to have done by Sunday, and so take
the time. Let's put in the work to research what
we want to hit on, how we want to feature it,
and then so we'll kind of reconnect on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
What do we need to do and how do we
got to get there? And coach, you've got a little
more and you play. You took over the defensive play calling.
What was it like to be back in that position,
a position you're very familiar with.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, I wanted to make sure I felt the energy
with the players of going and you know all they
put into it. So I was pleased to see, you know, energy, toughness,
a couple of good goal line stands. Those are things
that I enjoyed seeing and experiencing with the guys. So
that part was a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
And it just seemed like, I don't know how you
guys did it. You and the staff were able to
kind of make some pretty big overhauls in the week,
like how'd you get it done? And it must have
been pretty cool to see that level of commanders football
that you've been talking about the physicality, the toughness come
to light.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
And I thought the defensive staff and the defense players
their collaboration was was big. I thought Joe and the
defensive staff, the players just let's let's trim things down.
Let's get to what we know we can really execute
up more than anything. Man, I want to call to
go in quickly. The guys can go execute quickly. And
that's where it starts. We've got a long way to go.
We got to create takeaways, you know, find ways to
(02:19):
you know, do that to give the ball in opts
for the offense. But it was a good first step
of some things that we wanted to play and coach.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Due to all the injuries we've suffered, especially in the secondary,
you had to move some guys around a little bit,
or moved Mikey moved.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
What did you see from those guys?
Speaker 2 (02:32):
And how happy were you then to know that you
have guys that are so versatile that you can put
them anywhere on the field.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, a lot of resilience, you know, to say, how
do you go about to fight and what does that
look like? And so as Logan can attest what I
as a coach, what you want to see is how
hard the guys will compete for one another. And that's
what it always is about, and like why we love
coaching it and why guys like Logan loves playing it,
like how hard they can compete for one another. And
that you get that part right, Brian, and then all
(02:57):
the other things. You know, you can figure out the
scheme and go and do that. So to see guys
like that really battle it was awesome. Man.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
It's like one of the first times we should no
get like extended playing time. Have you seen something from
him and practice and said, hey, maybe deserves a larger role.
And I think he did a great job at the
Nickel spot.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah he did. And he's such a good competitor. He's
one of our best competitors, Like he is always about it.
And so to know that he could step into those
spaces and he's going to take communication from everybody, especially
at the Nickel against a team like Miami that would
shift in motion so often that have to really be
on it, and so you know, I knew he was
down for the challenge.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
He used the word competitor, and I immediately think about
Javon Kinlaw on that third down stop right there.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
This was a monster play.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
What have you been seeing from him not only this
past week but since he's come into the building.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, I was really pleased with the defensive tackles in
the game. We knew we had to be stout inside
in the second half. He saw some of the screens,
Johnny Newton coming out, Eddie Goldman had a big stop
down on the goal line. So interior part of a game.
If you can create havoc, if you can disrupt now,
you can get some of the timing and the run
game off. And Javon when man, he can really take
(04:02):
it over. And it was very very cool to see,
and certainly we needed that position to step up. We
were down, you know, one extra defensive lineman in this game,
and so it was especially important this game for those
guys to really nail that.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Is there something you said to that group specifically, because again,
like I was watching and you know, kin Law's using
his hands more and more violent, shutting out of gas
it felt like. And then Golden with a couple tackles
for losses. It just seemed like the whole group really
came to the forefront with all the physicality and all
the energy, Like was it something specific or was it
just kind of like, hey, generally we need to be
more locked in.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
I think we wanted to make sure these were what
we want to emphasize going into this game. These things
have to happen, These things have to get done. So
it wasn't a long list, you know things, but these
were the things that would have to do to play well.
And so as you're going through the game and you're
watching it, you want to say, Okay, that we did.
That we did and so creating takeaways that's a big
part of it, you know, and so we have to
make sure we can get that done. But there are
(04:56):
a lot of things that I saw, how hard they played,
how hard they battled that I and I know that
we can work with that.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
And coach was wild just being on that stage. Yes, Madrid,
the first NFL guest in Madrid. Then we got to
see ow Boy Deebo Samuel Senior get the first touchdown
ever in the history of Spain. Yes, nobody could take
that away from Nobody could take that away from you,
coach Man. How amazing was that that moment right there?
And to hear that crowd erupt the way. Yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
I felt this energy inside the building just almost by
the time I arrived, you know, kind of getting out
in pregame to get a little workout, Like there was
just this energy and the crowd was actually there pretty
early as far as the game goes, So like I
was pumped about that. Our hotel was only you know,
a block or two away, so you could feel the
energy around it and it was really cool. Man. So
(05:41):
they picked the right city and like there'll be a
lot of games I would think in Madrid, just based
off the enthusiasm, the energy that the fans brought.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
It was such a unique sports culture too, Like I
always think of it, like we did a couple events
and just the fandom was incredible, and like the way
they got down for the game was like it was
really cool to see.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
And uh, like the city had just a nice vibe
to about things, and so you can tell like this
is a you know country that loves sports. Man, they
just do. And that was easy to see how they
got behind the teams and so there are a lot
of Commanders fans. We might have been the visitor, but
I don't know if we were the visitor, you know,
and so that was really cool for US as an
(06:20):
organization to feel how much Burgundy and Gold was there
because it did not feel.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Like a road game for US. Coach Logan learned how
to dance flamenco. He looks pretty graceful.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Hopefully I never see that, but that's a perfect example
of like, yeah, like doing some things that you know
you would never normally do, and you know, just enjoyed
meeting the people there. You know, got to you know practice,
you know, a different spot and so just seeing different
environments and different things on you know, different days of
(06:52):
the week. You know, It's just it was just really cool, man.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
And it was crazy to see the young players, right
because I talked to Chris Rodriguez and I believe he
said this was his first time of the country ever,
maybe the second time out of the country. Then he
goes out and has a career game on that stage.
A guy like Chris ROGERI because I feel like he
really represents what Commanders football is. You talk about him
a little bit and how you know, no matter when
you call his number, he's gonna be ready.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Yeah, he is definitely, you know, for sure ready to
get down. I know a coach that was first time
in Europe at the game. Oh yeah, we're talking to him.
It was unusual and good. But speaking of Chris, like
he does in embody like a warrior spirit. That's what
a commander is to me, is a guy who's warrior like,
absolutely ready to get down on a moment's notice. And
(07:35):
he is always up for that challenge. And yeah, tons
of respect for him and his game. And see the
run game and getting him going in that space, it
was very cool.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
And it's like it's interesting because like the not only
the running backs, but the tight ends. Ye, Brandon Coleman
is that big kind of blocking Why did some really
good stuff. It's it feels like it's kind of a
collective there kind of supporting him. He gets, he gets
the carries, he gets the touches. But it's cool to
see all those other positions kind of supporting him a little.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yeah, And so to see the run game continue to
gain some traction again, that's an important part of what
we're doing. And so I liked seeing that. And Chris
was actually has been a captain recently, you know, just
for that purpose of like what he's demonstrating, you know,
on and off the field and.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Coach, this is a late by week, however, it's still
a bye week all the same. We know we want
to get the most of it. What has been your
points of emphesis for the guys for the locker room
to make the most of this bow week.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah, first thing is I wanted to make sure, like
our times together are really intense meetings practice the games,
and so I did want them to clear that, you know,
just for a moment. So when we do come back, like,
we're absolutely going after it, you know, in the very
best ways. We have a blast doing it, but like, man,
we're going to put it in and better we practice.
The more intense that is, that's going to carry over
(08:44):
into the games, and we're really looking to see, you know,
how much disruption and havoc we can cause in those
six games.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
The coach has been fun to see you so far
this season. Sorry, man, I mean to jump logo, but
we got to get you to into the film study
so coach can enjoy the rest of his bow week.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
We appreciate you so much for the time a US.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Okay, command is family. Before we hear more from our
head coach, dan Quinn. If you are listening on audio platforms,
make sure you go to command As YouTube page right
now so you can check out the film room between
Logan Paulson and head coach Dan Quinn. Now for more
from head coach Dan Quinn, Coach, we appreciate.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
You so much.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
During this by we we talked about wanting to look
at those points of emphasis that you want to talk
to the team about and attack. Can you elaborate on
some of those points of emphasis that you're looking at?
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Sure? I think when we start on the defensive side
and you know, like kind of give you three on defense,
through and offense. So first thing, the ability to create
some takeaways. You know, that's such an important part of
what we want to do and how we want to play.
So continuing to like make that part of our thing.
I want the perimeter of the defense on the run game,
you know, I really want to attack that to shore
(09:51):
that up our EDG setting the outside run game so
we can really dig deep into onto that. And then
the last piece for us, you know, can we find
different ways to affect the quarterback with pressure, some with disguise,
some with zone pressure, Like finding different ways to really
make the quarterback feel us and it won't be in
all one way just with a four man rush. So
finding the different ways that we can go do that
(10:13):
we do those things better, you know, I think those
would lay a big, you know, mark of improvement on defensively. Offensively,
I like where we're headed in terms of our running
the ball and our play action passing, So more cow bell,
more downhill on the run gave so let's lean in
harder onto that spot because we've got different packages, extra
tight end, you know, different personnel groups. But I felt
(10:36):
like we're gaining traction on that logan. So I want
to see that ramp up third downs. I want to
make sure we spend the extra time onto that and
then continue, you know, can we get the red zone
efficiency like we want it? But those would be three
things They're running, the play action that goes with that,
some specific third down markers, and then extra time down
the red zone. So those would be at the top
of the pile for us heading into it.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
And then with a third down one specifically, that one's
tough because lot of raps you some continuity. How do
you kind of manage that with all the adversity you
guys have faced on the perimeters.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Specifically, the continuity may not be there from the players,
but the concepts can sure. And if we can get
the concepts over and over, then maybe you can plug
and play a little bit when we're adding players back
into it. But let's get these concepts down come hell
or high water, and this down and distance and timing
of line tight ends, receivers, quarterback, and then plug and
(11:26):
play as we add people into that too. Love it, coach.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
We appreciate you taking the time, even during your bide,
to pull up on this command his family. This has
been the game plan we had coached dan Quinn. Logan, Paulson,
I'm your host, Brian Coleviell Jr. We'll catch all next week.
