Speaker 1 (00:11):
The man's fancy to the game play with her coach
Dan Quinn, Logan, Paulson, I mean host Brian Cowan Jr.
And we're in the Big Bear AI Command Center studio.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Coach looking good. Man got a little got a little
battle wound there. The first two part questions how you feeling.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
I appreciate you asking man. I'm doing great, Yes, sir, yes, sir.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
It was just so cool to see you pop up
like that, right lous will show you love. But then
in the locker room to give you the game ball man,
how special was that moment knowing that one.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Of the doggiest dogs in the locker.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Room respected Joe, then it was it was awesome to
show that much love and support.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
It was totally surprised by it.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
So uh, I'm feeling good and was like certainly grateful
for that from those guys and everybody else check it in.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
So yeah, thankful for that, coach.

Speaker 5 (00:54):
Did you have any like flashbacks to the playing days
when that was coming down the pipe? Mariotas coming down
not about to see gust.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Back in the day they read it.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
And yellow the base was bad, you know, like I.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Was looking rough right there, so ready for it was
not so bad, and that's even worse.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
But yeah, I had no need bend and uh, next thing,
I know, like uh on the ground.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
Back up and then like okay, was that like when
you were on your back and someone just looking down
like did you get the Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
No, I think I just tried to pop up back. Sure,
like no one saw it, but clearly everyone saw.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Coach, everyone is watching, But of course that's because of
the player on the field. The Commanders were playing and
Marcus Mariota was our quarterback stepped in for Jading Daniels.
How excited were you to see and still have that
explosive ability and make all those sposive plays.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
Yeah, I was probably the least surprised person in the stadium.
I see it on a regular basis, you know, for
the last year and a half, to see the way
he conducts himself, the way he can perform, the way
he runs the offense.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
I was certain that he would play.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Well.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
You talk about again, we talk about like, you know,
Marcus helping Jayden. Has it gone the other way at
all where they've kind of had like a symbiotic relationship
and helped each other out.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah, I think that's what's the pump part of being like,
you know, with a close group, this quarterback room that
you've heard us talk about with Josh Johnson and you
know Marcus and Jayden and Tavida and David Blou and
Cliff Brian Johnson, Like there's just a level of support
that you know in my you know, twenty plus years
seems unmatched about guys looking out for another, pushing each

(02:29):
other and like the best way to keep taking it further.
Like these are a lot of smart guys and like
they ask each other questions to even take it further.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
And so yeah, there's no doubt that they lean.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Into another lot and coach a group that seems to
lean together a lot as well as the running back
group right over two hundred yards against the Las Vegas Raders.
It seems to be a running back of committee of sorts.
How great is it to know as a coach that
no matter whose number is called back there, that.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
You can count on them to get it done.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Yeah, it was not surprising for those of us who've
known Jeremy to have a long one to that go. Uh,
Debo gets carries, Marcus gets carries. They're running backs get carries.
And so when you have to defend all eleven, that
can make it even more challenging. Knowing run game play
pass or versus, you know, the special plays that can
come out of that.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
All of those count up into the run game and
it takes a lot of work.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
We're not where we're going to be, you know, finally
at it, but we're making you know, strides at Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
And how do you keep that momentum going? Obviously the Atlanta
Falcons defense is like a young, kind of hyper athletic group,
and it seems like the run game is so important
for us offensively to set everything else up, Like how
do we keep that, keep the momentum going, keep that
snowball building?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
I was certainly impressed by you know, the Falcons, the speed,
the edges, right, you know really well yeah, so I
just I'm not surprised that they're playing this aggressive, this tough.
So but to find our spaces and you know, like
sometimes you keep at it, you keep at it and
you get a three yard, get none, you get ten.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
You know, you just have to stay attacking.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
We look at it, why receiving wrong?

Speaker 1 (03:59):
We know we get in terry, we know we get
in d bow then you've got the young guys. Yeah
guy and Lull McCaffrey got a guy in Jalen Lane
both were able to make some explosive plays. When you're
a coach and you get to see these young guys
that work so hard finally get a chance to put
it on the field, what does that feel like for you?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
It's awesome for those guys getting you know, the touchdowns
and getting their space to go. But I think it
also you know, speaks to like you know, we're going
to include everybody, and so you can't just dial in
on one person knowing like we're going to intact the
entire field all three phases, whether it's Jalen on punt
return or playing a slot or Luke on special teams
or playing on offense or like the four minute play

(04:33):
to go score and we're all pumped for him.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
And I think it shows.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
We've got a deep crew and they're all putting in
the work so we can attack, you know, from every space.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
If you talk about those like with young players, it's
so hard for them to develop their process like how
to handle each and every day. And you've seen it
happen up Ton. I'm sure what has their process been
like and like like what level of improvement have you
seen from them?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:55):
I think the question I'd like to ask the younger player,
and I'm doing it with some currently now is what
did you learn?

Speaker 3 (05:01):
You know, like what happened in the game, to say
what did you learn?

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Because then they can continue, you know, we keep a
journal like what's going all?

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Right? What did I do? How do I get that better?

Speaker 4 (05:10):
And so if you can keep refining that process even
through the week, what did that look like in your
practice and the habits that went in the prep?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Okay? Can I repeat that? Can I tweak that?

Speaker 4 (05:19):
And so I think it has to evolve a little
bit logan over the you know, the first month or
two of the season to find the batter rhythm that
might have worked just right for you might have not
been exactly the same for me.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
So what did you learn? How did you apply that
into the next week?

Speaker 1 (05:34):
The coach for our defense, they're playing a guy in
but John Robinson leads a team of rushing and receiving yards.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
What's the key containing a player like that?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
It's difficult, for sure.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
He's got such unique skill set. He can catch it,
you know, his ability to change direction, he can finish runs.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Yeah, he is such an impressive player.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
So all the plays run game, pass game, he can block.
He is right there, you know, at the very best
at what he does.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
I think the thing with running backs it's so difficult
is the matchups that they draw in the pass game.
Like I don't want you to give away the secrets here,
but like, how do you handle a guy that can
It's a little bit like Debo. He can play in
the backspielt he can play outside. Christian McCaffrey's a guy
that comes to mind for me. It just seems like
a lot to have to kind of account for one player.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Yeah, and Dijon and Christian, both of them have unique
things because as a running back, they're also dangerous in
the passing game, and now they're in the backfield, they're
emptied out. They're not just you know, to look outside
as a decoy, but like an absolute viable weapon there.
So you have to find your matchups. You have to
find the looks that are right for you. But it'll
take everybody, no doubt, and tackling for us in every game,

(06:39):
but certainly facing him, man, it is at a premium.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
And coach is always fun to see the young guys
get off.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
I don't think there's nothing cooler seeing the old g's
on the field make those plays.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Boggy Wagner and vaud Miller both getting some sacks. How
do you build off.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Of that momentum for guys like that that are really
starting to get things going?

Speaker 2 (06:54):
How do you build up that momentum against Atlanta?

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Yeah, much like you talked about the process, what went right?
How'd you like the pre operation to get going? And
the guys like Vaughn with his technique. Man, you can
see this long arm, how he's utilizing it how to go,
and so he'll just continue to get.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Refine that teak better and better.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
And like those players, and we want all the guys
but to continue to get better.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
So here's another chance to go do that and we'll
dig right in again.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
Man, is there anything too like a pass rusher getting
the first one?

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Like?

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Does it?

Speaker 5 (07:24):
I've always wondered about that, Like is it like, Oh,
I've got the one. My confidence is good now I
can keep it rolling. I'm sure it's the person dependent,
but yeah, I think.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
More person dependent, But it's more that when you're feeling
that groove Yeah, Okay, you may not get the sack,
but you're hitting the right marks, you're getting the pressures,
you're getting that. If you can get into that space,
then you know the other things are coming.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
And coach Will Harris a guy that's being that we'll
be missing him. How do you replace his presence and
his impact on this?

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Yeah, it's such a big deal.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
Like so many times you've heard in the NFL, next
man up, and it's way bigger than that. That's the
outside narrative. Internally, Will has brought a lot to us.
He's one and elite competit just the battles him and
Zach have had it practice to push each other to
get better.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
So it won't be one person right away.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
It'll be a little bit by the package and how
we'll feature the guys, but we do have a deep
career with safety and I'm certain they'll get the job done.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
And again, like there's you said, it's going to be
a lot of people to replace him. I'm sure because
he's been outstanding, so fun to watch in terms of
man coverage all the things he does. But like you know,
Revol's got to step up. What Tyler Owens got to
step up. What have you seen from those guys backing
up that you say, man, we're really confident that if
we put them in the right position to be successful.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
I think if you would ask me, like of some
of the most improved players, I would think Revo and
Owens would have been too, that would have been in
that list.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
I felt the speed of Revo, you know, maybe a
year after.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
It's funny, every time he's playing, you feel him just.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Like man, speed explosiveness, that's not that uncommon for a
speed player. Where he had a whole offseason to actually
train his legs as opposed to doing a rehab off
an ACL which he was coming off the twenty three season.
In the twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Four and now who you feel the explosiveness to hitting.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
And then Owens has kept increasing his role, started on
mostly just teams last year and now it's finding his
way on the defensive side as well.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Hey coach, we appreciate you as always.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Good luck today Atlanta's start of back to back road trips.
We're excited to be on the role, which you guys
for head coach Dan Quinn. We're kicking it with Logan Paulson.
Y'all about to get into some film study.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
The favorite bought us out no doubt.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Okay, Command is family. Before we hear more from our
head coach Dan Quinn. If you are listening on audio platforms,
make sure you go to Commander's YouTube page right now
so you could check out the film room between Logan
Paulson and head coach Dan Quinn.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Now for more from head coach Dan Quinn. Thanks before
we let you go. To be your first time back
in Atlanta in a very long time.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
You're a former head coach there. What does being back
there mean to you? And what does a game like
this mean to you? It's got to be like a
full circle moment.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Well played them, you know, I'm here last year and
previous cheff played them. But I guess a lot of
gratitude for Arthur Blank and his family give me a shot,
you know, back in you know, twenty fifteen to go there,
and so that's all.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
I think about.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
But past that, man, it's for the guys and let
them go battle for it. And like we played these
guys into extra football last year, you know, and so
like it'll be another tough ass match up again, and
so that's what I expect going down to it.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
Can you talk about again, obviously, like every step on
the journey is informative, right, yeah, can you talk about
what you learned during your time there that you've brought here.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
To this group?

Speaker 4 (10:36):
And I said, like an incredible amount, honestly, because before
you become a head coach or any time you're moving
up into a different position, like you're not ready for that,
you learn as you're going. And so thank you to Atlanta.
I got a lot of on the job lessons and
training that I'm now able to apply here. So it
was an absolute blast, you know, like I had a

(10:57):
great time doing it. I learned a lot and then
even gave me some space to find out how to
do things better if another opportunity came about. And so
it certainly has not been like rinse and repeat here
like in terms of okay, this is what we did,
then this is what we're doing here. So a lots
have evolved, and I guess what coaching is, man, You
see like what you learn, where the lessons and how

(11:17):
do you go get better?

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Then you dig in and do it.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
If there was one thing specifically they said like hey,
this is the one, like it's structure of practice, or
how I handle meetings is to me, like, you know,
you're the same guy, You're the same person, but obviously
you handle stuff differently, Like yeah, what would be that
one thing.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Say, like any leader like man whatever, that main objective,
Like my job is to create the environment for these
guys to like kick ass and success and so keep
the main thing, the main thing for me, that's the
play style, the identity of our team of what we do.
And so anytime I feel myself ever get pulled from that,
it's just back to the team, Back to the team.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
And so like a lot of people, we all like
to solve problems and help.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
You can spread ourselves too thin, but man like, no
matter what, like is always just about a team and
how we go about getting them better and anything else
that can pull at you and go. And we got
a lot of talent people that can take all those responsibilities.
My job is to make sure our guys are focused, ready,
and absolutely at their best and nothing can pull me

(12:15):
from that.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Sitting here with two former Falcons, but we're glad that
y'all a part of the Burgundy and as are.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Now command this family.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
This is the game plan with head coach Dan Quinn, Logan, Paulson,
