Speaker 1 (00:14):
Welcome into the game playing with head coach, Games Playing
logo Paul at the time, your host, Bryan Colman, junior coach.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
It's good to see you after a little break, a
little bit bye week.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
How did you and the guys make the most.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Of about it?

Speaker 4 (00:24):
First part, you want to look back what you did
and then coming into it, Man, it was important to
know like in these moments and this time left, it's
not I want to don't want to work six weeks
for like, it's now like we got six weeks to
play at this level, not building to it, but right
after it.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
And that's the.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Details, the winning time moments all that, and so all
of us will level up and man, I'm looking forward
to doing that together. It's it's where it's built in
the hard spaces, like right now and uh, that's what
we intend on doing.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
How do you get that communicated to the guys?

Speaker 5 (00:55):
Is that something you kind of just rely on the
leadership to do or are you taking a team meeting
and saying like this is our folks for the next
six Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
I went after it right from the very beginning to say, man,
like these are the details, like let's obsess about them,
you know, and how we get better and what that
looks like and not waiting to do that, but like
doing that right now and how we go about it together.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
And so it's a cool group.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
The uh I kind of said, we're building a good
place a year and a half in as an environment.
But if this culture is going to be great ever
that it has to go through the hard things. It's
got to come out the other end offer more resilient,
ready to take on the hard thing. So we're in
that space right now and it's kind of cool in
a way, like see what we're made of and where
we can come out of it. And so there's a
lot to take place in these months.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Ahead and culture.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
We start to preview tonight's game against the Broncos. We
have seen our offensive skill, physicians change a lot, injuries,
different guys coming in.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Who are you excited to see during the stretch.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
You know, Trey Burt's is one that's uh, you know,
there's something there. There's a hungry guy, he's got size
and speed to go.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Think he fits into what we do.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
I'm excited to see some old faces who are again
and so seeing some of that back into our mix
will be a lot of fun too, But Tray's one
that I've really had my I feel like he's one
ready to go make his mark.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
Obviously, Trailing is an exciting guy to watch, you know,
big long like you were talking about, is there anything
that you do as a staff to kind of make
sure that he's coming along? And I know he's got
to do a lot for himself, but there's anything you
guys can do to help him out.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
I think anytime you bring new guys in and they're
not here at the very beginning, how do you get
them caught up? How do you get him on to
the speed? These are the things we want to work on,
and so I think there's really a whole team of
people and veterans to look afterally. You know, this is
how we do it, This is what we want to
get done there. But seeing him able to fully express
himself as a ballplayer and what he can do, he's hungry,

(02:42):
he wants to prove it. Those are things that they
carry over into.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
The game and coach.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
When you look at the Broncos defense, lea the NFL
in sacks, they are a tough defense.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
How do you game plan against the defense?

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Yeah, they've they've played well, especially upfront, they jump the
ball like a good defensive line can do, and disrupt
the QB like the cornerback play, like the style of
what they do.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
But more than anything, you have to have balance. You know,
if you.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Get into a drop back team a game against a
team that wants that, you know, that makes it more difficult.
So you want to make sure you have enough change ups,
enough things there to exploit that while you know, not
allowing them to play exactly the way they want to play.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
It's kind of exciting to think about that group and
then think about where the offensive line has grown to
over the course of the season, you know, like kind
of galvanized. Like how important is it that that group
is gelling the last six weeks of the season.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Yeah, as you know, man, it's a line of scrimmage
game and their run game. That's where it comes down
to on both sides to say, can you run it
when they know you're going to run it? Yeah, you know,
and can you stop it when you know they're going
to run it? And those things that those ship dan
But it's there's something to that and there's a power
that comes with that, and I like that the group's

(03:50):
starting to come together, because then the run action plays
come together for more of the explosive plays. And if
we can get that part going in balance, Logan, then
I think we've got to chance to really hit the
mark and coach.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
When you look at their secondary guy and Patrick Shartane,
he's missed a few games, however, we know how capable
he is when healthy.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
One makes a guy like that so special.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
I think he's patient at the line, Bryan, That's one thing,
and like all good players, they don't they're not in
a hurry.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
You know.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
He can stay at the line, be disciplined with his techniques.
They attached to a receiver based on the route that
they're running, whether it's at ten yards longer. What could come.
I had a chance to, you know, watch his father
and be a part of the team, you know, when
he was coming up, you know, in my time and
during Miami and so to see his development take place
at Alabama and into the NFL is no surprise. You

(04:38):
know that he's done well. We all saw that trajectory
taking place, and.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
He's mentioned the patients. There is that something that you
can coach, you know, because it is something that all
good players do. Running routes, ye, past protectors. It just
seems like those special fe you have it. Is it
something you can help facilitate?

Speaker 4 (04:53):
I think you can, because the more confident you are
with your technique, the more patient you can be. If
you're not quite sure, your feets start moving, you start
gett nancy. If you're really confident knowing I do this
just right, you know, I don't have to rush, I
don't have to be in a hurry.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Just how I'm going to do it. I think was certained.
You've seen that.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yeah, and coach you talked about points of emphasis last
week and one of those was force internals. We talked
about it all season long. How have you guys managed
to get closer to that goal this weekend with that
extra time.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Yeah, we want to make sure that we're being smart
in terms of the tackling. Say, okay, that you don't
just take a shot at the ball without you know,
going after it. But you want to make sure taking
your shots at practice. So we kept track, you know,
every time there was a ball carrier, every time there's
a catch, are you thinking about it? Do you have
a chance to go get it?

Speaker 2 (05:35):
You know?

Speaker 4 (05:35):
How do you go catch the different types of passes
as a dB or a linebacker as a defensive player,
you don't catch them right and you know at the numbers,
you know that they don't throw them there. So is
it behind, is it over your head is down low?
You know, it's when your back turn and just catch
the flash of the ball. So you try to put
the guys in those spaces to catch the different types

(05:55):
of throws that could come.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
Another thing you talked about, coach was setting edges. Yep,
and that's all something that you know, like you think
it's pretty straightforwar, you know, set the edge, but it's
becoming more complicated with all this pin pull stuff like
how has that process gone for you?

Speaker 4 (06:07):
In that by way and six techniques and nine techniques
and how to play it all.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
It's been good, it's been strong.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
It's one of our areas of emphasis seeing the competition
O line to D line back and forth.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Doing that it practice helps.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
Now you get as full of speed rep as you
can going against you know, the ones on ones. That
helps a lot. But uh, those are a few of
the things creating takeaways. Edge setting on defense, obviously taking
care of the ball and these winning time moments guys
can we can we go nail it in those times
it's a fourth down, it's a two point play, it's
a two minute conversion.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Those are the things.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
We're going to nail and coach, we're playing a really
good quarterback in bo Nix's a year or two guy
who can get it done with his arm, but also
get it done with his legs. How do you slow
a guy down like that that has that type of ability.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Yeah, he's got real ability to extend plays, and so
you want to practice that way where a player could
get outside the pocket. Now the second play begins, so
you almost play two plays, the first one where the
route takes place, the second one when the quarterback gets
outside on the edge.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Is he remaining a passer? Is he going to be
a runner?

Speaker 4 (07:07):
So having eyes on a quarterback like that and vision
to him, that's a big deal.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
So what's the communication with the secondary because I think
that's one of the hardest things in football to deal
with for those secondary guys because the down just gets
so long. What's the point of emphasis in that situation
for the guys in the back end.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Yeah, we really apply it into two plays. So when
he breaks outside, it contained you almost freset and you
go attached to somebody where they're in his zone. You
go attach, you're already playing man demand. It's easier, and
you cut to somebody and help. But what you don't
want to do is take. If you're locked up in demand,
that's your person, right, you take him and you don't
look back to the QB knowing that his plays are

(07:43):
getting extended, counting on the whole player, a rat player,
the defensive line.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
To get there in that space and coach a game
plan against a coach like Sean Payte, he's one of
the better play callings in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
What makes him so special?

Speaker 4 (07:55):
I think the unpredictability has always had a great screen game.
You know, forever, running back have been such a central
part of their offense. Big backs, third down backs. How
can they get the ball out of the backfield? Receivers
that can stretch the field, receivers that were intermediate throwers.
So having a good balance, I think that's what's always
made going against Sean difficult.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
And you have some familiarity with them, So does that
help or does it hurt? Because it's like, you know,
you know what he knows, and he knows what you.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Know, because there's a lot of personnel groups that come
in when you go over a whole season. Now they
won't be for every game, but you need to prepare
and what do you get to count on?

Speaker 3 (08:32):
And we'll have a few wrinkles too, and Coach.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Will be back at the crib.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
We've been.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
It's been away for a while.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
How excited are you to be in front of the
best fans in the NFL?

Speaker 3 (08:40):
You know what, It's awesome.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
I was just telling somebody earlier today how exciting it is.
You know, when you're here at home, you feel the
energy of our crowd, their support and from the players standpoint,
from the coaching standpoint, it's an advantage and we feel
it that energy and just looking around seeing all the
burgundy and gold, like it's exactly what you'd hope you'd find,

(09:02):
you know, as a ballplayer, as a coach in a
home field advantage. It's a to see that turn in
a year's time has been like absolutely awesome.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
And Coach, we appreciate your time always, but you know
you and Logan got to get into some fields that
no appreciate you. We'll see back in the couching a
little bit, okay, command this family before we hear more
from our head coach Dan Quinn. If you are listening
on audio platforms, make sure you go to command as
YouTube page right now so you can check out the
film room between Logan Paulson and head coach Dan Quinn.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Now for more from head coach Dan Quinn.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Coach has been a fun show, but now it's time
for some prime time action. What can the fans expect
from our team tonight?

Speaker 4 (09:44):
It's differ wrong, I think Number one, you can expect
our team and to come out with the toughness, the energy,
the physicality that's going to take to win this game,
and uh, we're up for it, man, Like you're gonna
feel that energy.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
And uh we're ready to go.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
However long it goes four quarters quarters Like we're down
for that.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
So coach, like, what's what was the message? Like, obviously
you want that tonight, but like to get that result tonight, Like,
what's the message day in and out? Like in the
week of practice to get to today.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
They had to earn this wind during the week.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Yeah, you know, and if you put the reps in
and have those practices where like, damn that was hard.
I love it and if you get to that space
and put that kind of work in, you can't help
but play well. Yeah, but you have to put that
work in and when you do, there's some things that
are gained.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
It's hard.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
When you have those hard practices and you put the
work in, there's also something on the other side of that,
and that's you know, comes with that kind of execution
and you're ready for the fight.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Coach, we got logan juice up man, you ready to
go it? Coach.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
We appreciate your time as always, good luck tonight. This
is the game Plan with head coach dan Quinn, Logan
Pauls and I'm your host, Brian Covid Junior.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
We'll see y'all at the Crib at Northwest Stadium.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Command's Family.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
The game Plan with dan Quinn, presented by Salisburg University,
was filmed at the Big Bear.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
AI Command sent it's yeah,
