Speaker 1 (00:11):
The man has family, Welcome into the game, playing with
head coach Dan Quinn, the legend logan false and I'm
your olds.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Bryan Corp Jr.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
We weren't here in the Big Bear AI Command Center
studio celebrating a big win out in l A And
of course the story of the game. Jaden coming back.
How happy were you to have him back? And what
did you see fro him out there?
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Yeah, he was chomping at the bit, Brian to tell
you that, like it would be hard to send him
on this one. But I really felt after the whole
week of practice a little bit the week before that
he really, you know, had command of it.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
He had great velocity on the ball. I thought he
made some great.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Decisions, a couple of throwaways, slides, and that was what
I wanted to see. Could there be some lessons learned
from having to stand, you know, next to me for
a couple of weeks, And that's why I wanted to
make sure that we took there was lesson The only
thing worse than missing would be not learning the lessons,
and so I was glad to see him apply those
as well.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
And that's kind of been a feature of his personality.
Kind of throw out, right, is that he's kind of
always learning, which seems like a very unique quality for
such a young person.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, I think that's what we can forget sometimes, like
he is still going into a second year and like
this guy, man, he's going.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
To continue to take off. But manned and call and
made some great throws.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
I think going down to Luke at the half, the
one of the debot at the end, I mean, those
are just throws that are just Man, you couldn't be
more on point and coach, we're going to.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Preview this game is talk about this office before we
do anything else, we have to talk about Tyler Beatis.
I don't know if we've spoken about him enough. What
have you seen from him in year two with the
Bergen INCRD. I mean he's throwing guys around the field,
pushing guys.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
It's good to see Brian.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
I thought one part of his game that I've really
seen elevate is his ability to pull and get to
the second level. And so whether that's a toss play,
a gap scheme where sometimes you pull the guard, but
now pulling the center where he can get on the edge.
You made a key block securing the edge, getting to
the next one. But that part of his game, I
thought he is really elevated.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Can you talk about that whole blocking surface, man, I
feel like they've all done a great job just playing
physical football. And I know Bill gets all the headlines
and his ship because he's the guy that touched the football,
but he's really supported by six, seven, eight guys that
kind of rotate in and fill out that blocking.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Ser Yeah, and leaning into that hard. You know when
there's run action, run action, play pass that comes with it.
But we've got a you know, a big system offensively,
there's gap schemes, there's inside zones, there's toss plays, there's misdirection,
and so having the ability to plug and play and
make them feel also like they could get into some
(02:40):
pass plays off of the same look.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
I think that's the secret sauce of it all.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
It's been great seeing a rookie like Bill get off,
but it's also been great seeing the second year guys
pro confidence, particularly Ben sent It and Luke McCaffrey. How
has that confidence helped them as they continue to go
throughout the season.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah, I think there's a confidence game, Brian, because you
can play fast, you've done the work you're ready, So
they're the confidence comes from the amount of work that
you've done.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
And both of you have seen how hard.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
They have worked at practice before after doing extra so
there's a real confidence that comes from knowing that you
did the work.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
And so when the moment comes, man like, you're ready
to go deliver.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
And those two in particular, I've really felt that. And
as a rookie, Jalen Lane is also one that's starting
to you know, he's not in his second year, but
he's gaining it fast Ran, He's improving, he's growing.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
Can you talk about it?
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Because I always think with like young players, thinking back
to my own career, it's like you get like a
role like this is the thing you can own and
development here, Like I look at Ben Sinnett like, yeah, blocking,
how that's really come to life.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
Man.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
He has a great block on that counter. He knocks
the safety over you see Luke and the blocking on
the perimeter, and it's just getting on the field, getting
used to the game speed, Like how important is that
for those guys in terms of that developmental are.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, it's a big deal.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
And sometimes some of the coaching doesn't come always from coaches,
you know, this like for John Bates to have a
role with then to know that the smallest of details
seeing it from the lens of the helmet. So I
just feel like coaching the player player to player and
if you can help somebody develop with the right people
(04:10):
around them, like, there's no limit to where.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
You can take it.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
And I feel his speed, I feel his intensity, so
I feel like, yeah, he's on the way up as well.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
And coach will look at this Bears defense third in
takeaways in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
What makes this defense so dangerous?
Speaker 3 (04:24):
They've really the things that stand out to me Brian
playing well to get the ball and playing well on
third down, and some of those are you know, in
line together we're an interception or takeaway and third down.
But I thought from a secondary standpoint.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
These guys are ballhawks.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
You know, they had showing the ability to go after
it and go get it now I'm third down, different looks,
different variations which make it challenging, but their ability to
go get the ball this far in the season, that's
a real key to this game.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Is that just the personnel that they've got, you know,
they've got guys that kind of have an affinity for
that you always talk about kind of getting people to
fit your defense, you know, is that kind of what
they've done is found people of good defensive ball skills.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
It definitely helps.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
I think.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
I know the secondary coach, Al Harris, who's always had
was with me and so he also has a knack
for coaching it and what to go and how to
look forward. So I think when you can combine a
player who's got the propensity to go after it the
coaching to push it into that spot, that's when it
can really take off. The safety Buyer has always been
(05:24):
a great ballhawk. I think it's over thirty interceptions. So
having the combination of both that's a big deal.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
And we'll go to the defensive side of the ball.
Another guy that I want to mention, Javon Kinlaw, came
in here. He told me, he said, I wanted to
play the head coach Dan Quinn. Have him been able
to get him to fit into what was already working.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
With his defensive Yeah, I love the connection with him
and Doran inside.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Not the odd couple of tall is sure, but these guys, man,
it's more like a wrecking crew. And he plays with
violence and aggression technique, and so having that belief in him,
which we do. Man, I just see him continue to
grow and uh, man, he's just going to keep getting better, Brian,
Like he's not scratched the surface about where I think,
(06:07):
you know, he's going to take it.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
But man, the intensity and you see him.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
On the sideline supporting the offense like he is really
you know, coming into his own here.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
It's very cool to see. I heard he tells the
Ron play big. Yeah, that is cool. I'm sure you
really appreciate that, dude. The two of them together, Man,
it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
I have a lot of confidence looking out there and
seeing those two guys. I would not want to be
on the other side of that.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
And then, like you talk about, you know, like his development.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
He's been a league for a couple of years and
like this it feels like a like a new player
because he's been this way the whole time. But to
see him kind of emerge, Like how much this coaching
play a role in his development?
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah, it does, and you've seen it.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Man.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Of sometimes it just takes a minute to level out
and find the right space and the right system for him,
a new environment, and sometimes that can be all that
you need. We certainly have a lot of belief in
him and we're excited to see where he's going to
take it. But every once in a while, just he's
always had a little bit of the road less traveled,
sure from his career and upbringing, but to see him
(07:09):
really just expressing who is his ballplayer and man and man,
are we glad we.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Have coach you and Joe Witt talking about this defense.
Always talk about getting the ball back in your hands,
touching that ball.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Two takeaways in last game?
Speaker 5 (07:23):
What went right?
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Well? I think Kwan was the one that set it off.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
You know, there's every once in a while in the game,
there's a play that's okay, there it is, and that
was the one that needed I thought the game turned
almost after that play. The offense went down to score
another stop right back in it. Two minute score, come
out the third quarter of score. But it was Kwan,
he was the one that set it off. It's not
surprising to see the practice that he does, the leading
(07:47):
that he does, so I wasn't surprised to see him
be the one that would be the one to set
it off.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
And you mentioned you kind of alluded to it there,
but that complimentary football. Man. I think that's got to
feel so good as a coach.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
You get the big play, the offense kind of spoke
or early is able to go capitalize and just really
kind of get the team all locked in and go yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
And it is one of the things I love about
our team, Like they're not really three separate units.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
They really support each other. They go after it together.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
So when the big play happens, the offensive the defense,
they are on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
You know, we saw McCaffrey on.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
The big catch, you see you know, three or four
defensive guys wanting to go on the field to celebrate
with him, you know. Or a big tackle on the
opening kickoff by Tay Martin and the energy that it
can bring.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
So I do love that they're able to blend it.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
All together and coach, we talked about a year two
guys on the offense, but some two year year two
guys on the defense. Torode McGee, Johnny Newtman struggled with
some injuries, but now really come into the all. How
great is it to see them really develop and kind
of make up for that lost time.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
I just feel their speed, Brian, I feel their intent,
the intensity they have, so both of them we knew
were going this way and then with more opportunities, more
playing time to get rolling. I really feel like they're
hitting their marks. And Johnny, I feel his quickness is back.
Speed this back so for him, changed a couple of
things technique wise with him during training camp, and I
(09:05):
thought Jordan, ever since he came back from his injury,
he has really hit it.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
So yeah, we're excited about where the head.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
And it's just like watching them finish plays and like
the energy you mentioned, like every you turn the film
on and it's like you just see like these missiles
out there. You know, He's running down reversus Johnny Newton
is and you see them blitzing. It's just like their
the energy they bring is really special.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah, and I love that they're able to express that
and show how important it is to prove it to
their teammates and to one another.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
And so when you see that, you want to recognize
coach can't wait.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
For prime time.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Before we get to that, y'all got to get into
some films. Appreciate your time. Let's talk decent, Okay, command
is family Before we hear more from our head Coach
Dan Quinn. If you are listening on audio platforms, make
sure you go to command As YouTube page right now
so you can check out the film room between Logan
Paulsen and head coach Dan Quinn.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Now for more from head coach Dan Quinn. Coach tomorrow
night's game.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
It's prime time Monday night football. And I know you're
prime time type guy. What brings the most out not
only the players with yourself during these prime time moments?
Speaker 3 (10:11):
You know, it's fun when the primetime ones are at home,
you know, for us to have two games away and
then to you know, come back home night game, man,
it's going to be rocking, and so there's a lot
of energy that goes with that. And also known for
these players, man, they really want to you know, perform
for the fans and for DC to make sure like
this is how we get down and show that kind
(10:33):
of belief. But it's it's absolutely as fun as you
can imagine.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
And what's your role as a coach and kind of
make it because everyone's got the energy for the primetime
game is making sure it's directed appropriately and say and
in the way a controlled chaos.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
I think you want to think about not just in
a primetime name. But like as you're going through the season,
you want to level up. That's your technique physicality, but
also with discipline. You know, you want to make sure
it's leveling up. You can play a little faster with discipline,
a little more physical, but with the same discipline. And
so that's to me the trick. You don't want to
just you know, lose your mind and go crazy and
(11:07):
then the discipline goes down.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
So it's always that calm but.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Like a toughness and energy goes with it, but with
discipline higher and with discipline, and if you can continue
leveling that up, then you got both.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Now you're really effect it.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Coach.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Before we go, we have to mention the last meeting
with the Bears, the ail mayor. We all know what
a major moment that was.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
What was that moment like for you and to be
a part of that, you know, it was one of
my favorite plays I've been a part of. It was
a great chapter you know of last year. I don't
think about it going into this game, but it was,
you know, an awesome chapter you know in that season, which.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Was a lot of fun in the game. Like somebody
asked me, like, what do you think about in that moment.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
I thought, Oka, you have enough time to buy it
to throw it, and then, like most everybody, there's about
it five seconds.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
And then a catch.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
You know it's your mind, but like during the actual throw,
there's like there's no moment. There's like there's no car
it's just flat like so then you you know, just follow.
It's like everybody else. It was very quiet.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
You're in the stadium. Today's five and a half seconds.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
I'm sure I felt like a light felt like sitting
there and watching my most alm was like seeing people's
reaction to it. Oh for sure, coach, and we're excited
to see even more moments tomorrow night on Monday Night
Football when we take on the Chicago Bears. This has
been the Game Playing with head coach Dan Quinn. The
Legend logo Paulson, i'my host, Brian Covian Jr.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Let's get this win tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
The Game Playing with Dan Quinn, presented by Salisburg University,
was filmed at the Big Bear AI Command Center studio
