Speaker 1 (00:12):
Command is Family, Welcome back into the game plan presented
by Salisburg University. I'm here with head coach Dan Quinn,
the Legend Logan Pulse, and I'm Brian Coben Junior here
in the Command Center Big Bear AI Studio.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
It's great to be back and coach, it's finally here.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yes, week one and we have the New York Giants
and there's something and there's nobody better talk about it
than you. There's something different about these NFC East matches
right yes.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
And to get it also to start the season, that's
a big deal. There's something about an energy that takes
place in the opening week.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
You're kind of stepping out on the line. You know,
like it's.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Now the season, It's now for real and no longer
preseason game. So there is and I'm sure Logan can
attest to that for twenty five years. It's just a
shift that takes place that you start the regular season,
and you'll also know there's a shift that takes place
in the postseason. There's this energy that you don't really
have to talk about.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
It just happens.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
And so to have that coincide with a division opponent,
it's the very best way to start the year.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
I was gonna say because I always thought that was
better because you kind of like know the team a
little bit. You know, it's just going to be like
the kind of like fight your brother, just know you
know what's going down, and like there's something nice about
coming into that kind of fight.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
And having your home opener be the first game also
feels good.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
There's just a lot, but I love it when the
NFL does these kind of matchups right off the bat
and like, all right, let's go get down. We had
two very close games with them last year, like a
lot of division games are, and so what a great
way to start.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
To fight and Colture, it'll be our first time seeing
a couple of new guys. Larrm me Tums will be
our first time seeing him on that field.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
What does he.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Add to this offense that helps you guys do what
you guys are trying to accomplish in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah, when you watch him play tackle, he's got just
this poise and confidence outside. He doesn't rush, he's not
in a hurt. He's got such length that he's just
always in control. And that's a good spot to be
in as a tackle, because as a defensive end, when
you're rushing someone, you're trying to be aggressive, meaning where's
my spot? Where can I go take it? Like, it's
(02:15):
not always about just being fast as a defensive end,
it's also when do I take my spot? The guy
opened up a little bit, I can now go hit it.
And it's hard with Laramie because he doesn't give you
a lot of those options. He's long, he's got strength,
and he's patient and much like a good corner who's
hard to get away from you for a receiver, a
(02:35):
good offensive tackle, he just keeps you squared up, keeps
you in front, and he's hard to get by. But
he's experienced. He's willing to share the knowledge, which I appreciate.
But he just really plays.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
With this confidence and poise that you really like to see.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I'm that boy is going to be super important because
the Giants, obviously on that defensive line is kind of
the story coming out of their offseason. Yes, obviously guys
like Dexter Lawrence Burns. How do you prep for a
group that's got so many I guess, so many guys
that could beat you individually, Like it's got to be
kind of a team response ou.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
With him, Yes, and that's the good part, you know,
to know, like the best part of our team is
the team, Like, you know, whatever ways we have to
go do to win, that's how we're going to go
get down. And so we're not one dimensional in that
way and knowing that they've got talent in this space,
so we're not going to always try to fight a
fair fight.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
That that's the part of game planning and going about it.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
But there is some great matchups and that is definitely,
you know, one of the strengths of their team for sure, and.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Coach, we're definitely excited to see the new guys, but
we also have some guys that decided to run it
back because of you, because of Jane. Dane was one
of those guys. Is zach Ertz, who's also very familiar
with the NFC's house for sure, not only his leadership
but his skill set for this offense.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
He really worked at it, you know, to level up
again this offseason. I thought he threw a fantastic camp,
you know, he really did. And then a further connection
with Jayden, you know, a route that can change based
on a certain leverage that doesn't happen with every tight
end and quarterback.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
Though, just remember that.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
So there are certain things because of that connection. A glance,
a look, a signal that can mean yeah, there's an option,
there's a way to do that. And so they've earned
that together and so it allows them to try to
put themselves in the best spaces you're.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Talking about that relationship. Has that helped I would think
it would. Does that help Jayden kind of come along
with his maturation in near two?
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Absolutely, And Zach's been a very big.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Supporter mentor for Jaden, knowing not telling Jaden what to do,
but being fully understood.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
Of like where do you need me? Where do you
want me? You know, like just the other way.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
And so that's what a leader does is ask, you know,
what can I do to be in the right spot,
to be in the right location. So I think Zach
provides a lot of that by not telling him more
to do what do you need from me?
Speaker 4 (05:02):
And I thought that's that's leading.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
And talking about leading with Jade and Daniels.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
I think one thing that impressed everybody and maybe surprise
some people, was his poise. There were so many big
moments last year and he was poised and all of them.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
It's very very calm. This is a new year, new
expectations for Jade and Daniels.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
How have you been able to help him remain poised
as he ventures onto something that he's never done before
year two in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
I don't think he looks at it as that pressure
like that. I think he looks at it as like
opportunity and possibility, you know about not trying to replicate
or repeat, but like what could be? And so I
think I'm in agreement with him on that to say,
we're not trying to replicate things like we're trying to
build on them. And so if we take that approach,
(05:43):
I think that changes the narrative a little bit. We
don't want to miss how much fun we had. That
was cool, but we're also saying that was the beginning
and we want to build on it, we want to
get stronger. And so I think he looks at it
as more what can be?
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Does he share that with the team, because I think
that's an incredibly power owerful attitude because as a player,
I was always like, oh, don't screw it up, don't
do that. To have a guy that's like, no, man like,
think about it, in the affirmative as opposed to the negative.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
That's got to be Yeah, awesome.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
He is so locked into what to do.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
He doesn't look down the line and we need to
be here and compare things to before. It's like, how
do we do this route better those protections that play?
And so that's the type of pressure that I think
he flips as opposed to feeling what was compared to
like what can be And I would totally agree with
him on it.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
And coach, when you look at the defensive side of
the ball, we have a new look secondary.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Secondary looked really good last year, but.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
We added some pieces to make them even better. And
what a great test taking on the New York Giants
and this receiving core. How do you see us matching
up with them? And what do you expect to see
out of this new look second.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Yeah, there's a lot of new faces overall. I think
there's five of the ten d linemen are new added.
You know, obviously a safety you know, some corners, and
so putting people into the right spots is a big deal.
We have to get that part right. It's one thing
to get the right people on the bus, but you
also have to put him in the right seats and
allowing us to have you know, Jonathan Jones and Will
(07:07):
and others to be part of the group.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
They've really expressed.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Themselves of how they can play, what they can add
to our team. And I thought they've done a nice job,
you know, connecting all the way through this you know,
spring and into training camp.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Talk about putting people in the right seats, and a
guy that I thought of immediately said that as Mike
Sanders still like just kind of finding his home there
and just how productive and efficient he's been, Like, what
are your expectations for him had in this game, because
like he's been awesome in this new kind of and
not new is his traditional nickel wall.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I guess I think that was the vision that we
had from Mike, you know, when we selected him. But
circumstances had to change, and in twenty twenty four the
best thing for the team was to play him outside,
and he absolutely responded, you know, and not having that
kind of training and training camp and the first part
(07:56):
of the season, we say we're going to make this switch.
This gives us the best chance to go and play
and win, and he was all about it, and as
he grew stronger at the position.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
You know, you saw his play elevate as well.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
But we've always had the vision of this would be
his you know, real secret sauce because he's got elite,
elite quickness. He's, you know, one of our smartest players.
He can see things better from closer towards the ball
and coach you talk.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
About that guy like Larry Tuns.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
We haven't got to necessarily see yet another new edition
von Miller on that defense. We haven't got to see
him yet either, number twenty four. He told me he
was just chopping at the bit to get on that field.
How excited are you to see von Miller what he
can add to an already dominant defense.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yeah, he also adds a lot of leadership to what
we want to be. He's an excellent communicator on the
field in the classroom as well.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
But he's got experience to share.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
We're already better, you know, before we've even played one
snap because of what he's already brought.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
So we're excited.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
The things that the thirty six year old Vaughn is
different than the twenty six shuld wrong, but they're really
powerful in lots of different ways, And like man, we're
really pumped to put him into these, you know, spots
that he can really impact.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
The game and Coach and Closing will be at the crib,
will be back home.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
What a way to.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Start the season to be one of the best fans
in the NFL in closing, Can we give a message
to Command as fans as they get ready to cheer
on our command.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Well, I think Logan can respond to this. Home field
advantage is huge. You know, they feel the fans absolutely,
you know, going crazy for the guys making plays and
being on the field. There's nothing like it for them,
and so they feel that energy that helps get created
in the stadium and the more of that the better.
And they can also be an absolute weapon for us,
(09:42):
you know, to say how loud can we make it
and how hard can we make it on the opposing teams?
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Just by how loud it is.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
That's a really big deal and we are definitely capable
of doing that. So we really want them to bring
the juice.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Coach, you're given Logan goosebumps right now.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
That's how exciting, how juiced he is.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
And Coach, you know what else he's excited about for
y'all to do film set. It's probably Logan's favorite thing
to do on this show's film stay coach.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
We always appreciate talking to.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
You, all right, thanks guys, Okay command his family. Before
we hear more from our head coach Dan Quinn. If
you are listening on audio platforms, make sure you go
to Commands YouTube page right now so you can check
out the film room between.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Logan, Paulson and head coach Dan Quinn. Now for more
from head coach Dan Quinn.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Back on the couch with a head coach Dan Quinn
and before we go, we are honoring one of our
favorite Washington legends here, mister eight to the nine, Santana Moss.
And it's something that you in this new regime have
made sure to do to honor the past and these legends.
Why has that been so important you, especially for a
guy like Santana Moss.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yeah, man, ten years here and to honor the sacrifice
you know that you go through.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Santana is absolutely.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
One of the heavy hitters in this program and has
a huge, rich and storied history.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
So for him over those ten seasons to be up
near the.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Top of the leaderboard in just about every you know,
receiving category, and that proves this man was a true
heavy hitter for this organization.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
And man, what a cool day to honor him.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
So say, did you ever coach against him? I always forget,
like where you guys lined up, and like game planning
for a guy like Tanna, Like what was that like
in terms of dry out two spots.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
You know, early on in his time at the jets
here and uh.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
I think it's the speed and quickness of guys like
Tanna and the Steve Smith that were not just fast,
but were incredibly competitive and tough, and that is different.
There's lots of guys that can take the top off
of defense because of their speed, but then there's the
other players that can go full speed and then stop.
(11:52):
And that's what makes a great receiver to know that,
like is it a deeper out notes come back, you know,
and so like having the ability to just explode and
stop and uh and have the competitive dog that's a
part of him. I think that's like the whole makeup
of what a great player feels Like.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
When I hear coach talk about competitive tough, that actually,
legit gives me a good because that's like the highest
compliment you can give something like if you've been in it,
you know that that's like the highest thing. And so
it's really cool that you talk about him in that way.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
It was so easy to see, you know, it just
jumped off the tape at you about who he was.
He was able to express himself as a ballplayer and
it was never anything but like tough and competitive in
a battler and coach.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Thankfully, you don't have to game plan.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
And he's part of us. He's here with us to
stay family. This has been the game plan with head
coach Dan Quinn. Logan Paulson, I'm Brian Copra Junior. To
make sure you get loud today for Washington Commanders because
the season kicks off. We're taking on the New York Giants.
We know the Burgundy and Gold family are going to
show up and show out like they always do and
of course show up to our god missed eight to
(12:54):
the nine at halftime. This is the game plan. See
y'all next Sunday. The game Plan with Dan Quinn, presented
by Salisburg University, was filmed at the Big Bear AI
Command Center studio
