Speaker 1 (00:00):
Coming up on the Booth Review London. Terry McLaurin signed
an extension.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yes, and we also got a little preseason recap and.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
We got to get ready to cut down to fifty three.
We'll do that with Logan Paulsen.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Next.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Welcome into the debut edition of the twenty twenty five
season Booth Review podcast. I'm Bram Whiteside with Big Fletch
London Fletcher and we are in the Big Bear AI
Command Center studio.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Preseason has done, London.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Preseason is done, man, and you know what, preseason is necessary,
but I'm glad to fuck The regular season is upon us.
A lot to talk about, a lot to kind of
reflect on as we'll get ready for this the start
of the twenty twenty five season.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
We're going to talk about the preseason a little bit
in camp and get ready for the season. But there's
really major news that occurred and I want to address
it with you. Yeah, just a little bit. Terry McLaurin
got a deal. It's been reported by Adam Schefter many
other insiders out there. It's not officially put out by
the team yet, and it's expected to be a three
year extend for him. So it puts to bed what
(01:03):
has been a long running storyline for the team, and
so he's back in the fold for now into the future.
Two weeks away from the start of the regular season.
What was just your general reaction to hearing it.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
I was thrilled to know that this thing had finally
gotten done, that they'd had a grade to an extension.
So I have so much respect for Terry as a player,
to respect for Terry as a person, respect for the organization,
respect for the front office, and also the ownership and
respect for the process to kind of wait and see
(01:37):
how things was going to go, let the process play out,
and I know I felt great confidence. I had confidence
that they would be able to come to an agreement,
and I'm stoked about it and happy to see a
seventeen back out on the field.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I think what was really interesting about it for me
throughout the whole process was I think they both had
the same goal the whole time, Like he didn't really
want to go anywhere. He wants to be here, he
matters here, or he's part of us, and I think
the team and they don't say a lot publicly, but
they stated early in the spring, we want him to
be here for a long time. So this maybe lasted
(02:12):
a little bit longer than I ever thought it was
going to. And we can talk about maybe the impact
of what you think it did on training camp, but
like that's the only part of this that I think
was a surprise. I think they both wanted the same thing,
and I'm happy we got to it. Maybe a little
later than I thought they would, but but we got
to it.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
And then I've been in my career been a part
of some negotiations, contract negotiations.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
And they're not easy.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
But the main thing that you touched on is they
wanted to get to this point. He wanted to be here.
They wanted him here. Now how do we get to
this point? That that took a little bit of maneuver
and things like that. But you know, just as as
you look at just Terry as a football player. Last year,
we know he set the franchise record and touchdowns catches.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
In a season.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
But since he's been here, he's been everything you want
to want from a football player. And I think even
though I was under a new, old regime and old coaches,
they recognize, Hey, that this is a guy that we
want to continue to be a part of our coach
our build what we're building here, and I'm glad it's
(03:20):
finally done.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, I think to kind of bring it back to
camp a little bit. Noah Brown's been injured, so he's
been missing some time. Hopefully he's trending up. That looked good.
He was working out a pregame before the Ravens preseason finale,
so that's a good sign. Get him back out on the field.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Larry M.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Tunzel's been in and out of the lineup, Randon Coleman
in out of the lineup. It was nice to see
him playing that Ravens preseason finale. We're waiting on Sam Cosby.
The gang hasn't been together, and part of this was Terry.
We know what a big part of the offense that
he is. His return I think exponentially changes. Not that
I thought he was going anywhere, but him being happy
(03:58):
in the building and showing up on the field and
getting something that he wanted, security, money, whatever else. You know,
I think respect more than anything. It's a really big
deal that this did not linger into the regular step.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Absolutely, because you know, you don't want you don't want
any player to be unhappy, especially a player that you're
going to you're counting on to be such a huge
part of not just your office, but just your team
in general. He's so well respected, so they understood that,
and you mentioned getting that done and the team not
(04:31):
really being together. So we're going to have to also
look at Week one against the New York Giants. We
got what thirteen days yeah, between now and you know,
the regular season opener. How getting them wrapped up and
ready for they open the season opener. We know he's
been doing things, just knowing he's a professional, I'm sure
(04:53):
he's been, you know, conditioning and doing the things as
much as possible to get himself ready. But there is
going to be a little time and adjustment, and there'll
be several practices between now and the season opening. But
you know, it's he makes such a big difference having
his presence on the football field.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah, I'm not worried about him being in shape. I'm
not worried about him being in the meetings and engaged
and all that stuff. I do wonder, having not practiced,
can we expect volume from him of plays that we
have grown accustomed to. He's rarely off the field for
this team, you know, over the last durable.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
He's reliable in shape.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Is the conditioning a question having not practiced for as
long as he has in practice.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
I think just when you when you hear DQ talk
about all making sure they take the top of steps
in terms of returning to the field, and they have an
idea process that they go to to ramp up guys
to be ready to play in regular season games, to
be ready to even return to practice fully.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Colorful.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
They'll have a bunch of different personnel groupings where Terry
will be on on the field, some he won't be
on the field, and that's just throughout the normal course
of a game. Will they have to make some adjustments, Well,
we three looked totally different from a volume standpoint the
week one. Probably we don't know that for certain, but
I'm sure they'll go about it the right way and
get it in terms of getting him ready to be
(06:17):
his best.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
I want to talk about him being happy and feeling
respected too. You're one of the players here that's up
in the ring of fame, right, one of the most
widely respected players that has put on this uniform for
a long time. I think he's trending that way too,
that if he were to play the bulk of his career,
potentially break records here. He already did one of them
that you mentioned before. He's going to be top three
(06:39):
if he plays out this contract in just about every category.
And we have Hall of Fame wide receivers like Art Monk,
who's getting honored this year, Charlie Taylor, others, Saint Hena
Moss is getting honored. He's played in this uniform. I
wonder how you kind of think about legacy for him,
because that also, to me, has been something I've thought
a lot about during this offseason with him. He has
(07:00):
been such an important part of one of the major
transitional periods of this I really want to see him
see it through because I know what he means to
the community, I know what he means to the franchise,
and he's going to be honored. I think it's the
ways that you've been honored by the end of it.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yes, he would. He should be. The thing that you
we talk about the production. Production is one thing. There
have been a lot of players who've come in here
produce produced at a high level, produced at a high
level for a number of years. But it's how you
go about handling your business, and the thing that you
(07:38):
really appreciate for Terry is he just does it with
such grace and humility and where he's a very likable player.
And so when you you you root for him and
you want him to be here at least a decade
and guardner all the recognition to accolades that he will,
you know, ultimately receive once his player days are over.
(08:01):
But just him as a player. UH got played with
a lot of number one receivers matter, and UH play
with some Hall of famers, and they could be a
little temperamental, They can be a little bit of was
You don't see that he's played with it. I mean
I don't. We can't even name how many different quarterbacks
he's played with. You never hear him complaining frustrated things
(08:23):
like that. He just goes about shows up to work
day in and day out. And that's why he's he's
gonna be here for you know, the foreseeable future.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
You admitted you had a couple of acrimonious you know,
contract negotiations through the years you lived the life there,
you saw a lot of ice. Have this does it
ever really bother the locker room beause I think a
lot of people on the outside wonder like this hanging
over the team for as long as it did, How
does it not affect the locker room.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
As it doesn't because everybody players understand there's there's the
football side of things and then there's the business side
of football, and you.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Guys, it's just a part of it. You know.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
As a as a player, you focus on what you
can control and you focus on your business. Terry had
to have no his business and the team, you know,
had no business from a contract standpoint. But me as
as a player or you got to worry about making
sure you're doing everything you can do to be the
best player you can be. Being focused on the meeting
(09:24):
is being focused on the practice field, doing all the
things necessary to prepare each day in and day out
to get ready for September seventh.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
And he's obviously a great player. He also feels like
a heartbeat to me for this team. I think you were,
you know, for your side of the ball at the
time when you were playing as well. I think we
all see that in him too. It's important for him
to be happy, engaged, proud to wear the uniform and
putting the type of energy that we've grown accustomed to
with him. He is an all time competitor for this
(09:55):
for this team.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
It makes a difference. Man, I tell you, you know,
I can. I can.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
I would look at my situation. I'll go back to
my situation in Saint Louis with the Rams, my first team.
Speaker 5 (10:08):
I played for it, and.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
We won a super Bowl my second year in the league,
second first year as a starter, ended up going to
another super Bowl my fourth year there. I played great football,
did a lot of great things, and and we were
trying to get a deal done, but we just couldn't.
We just couldn't come to an agreement. And when free
(10:32):
agency started and it was apparent that I wasn't going
to resign there, I was hurt. I was hurt by
because I had put so much into it, and I'm like,
dang man, what more could I could I do have
done to, you know, have gotten paid what I felt
(10:53):
like I was deserved it. And at that point point
in time was younger, not really understanding the whole dynamics
of football. You're working with a budget, there's other things
you got to take a consideration.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
But it uh. It hurtful.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
It hurt before initially, and then I had to get
over there and understand that's that's just football, and that's
the business of it. And sometimes it's not always about
you know, everything's not black and white, so to speak. Yeah,
there's some other issue, moving parts and dynamics that come
into play.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
I think this is all going to ultimately be water
under the bridge and just a footnotes of the season
because it goes back to the beginning. The only surprising
this whole thing to me was how long it took
to get here. I think both sites wanted this outcome
the whole time, and so I'm glad we got to
that outcome.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
They move forward.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
They did, I mean Adam peters Ap he was on
I mean he did press conference saying, hey, we won't
tear here, we.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Want to tear here.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
DQ mentioned as a you know, it was they weren't
traded them, they weren't fielding trade offer, so they wanted
to him. They understand his importance to this team to
the value. Now we can put that bit really really
focus in on September one, I mean September seventh and
(12:10):
the New York Giants and the twenty twenty five football season.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
All right, let's get into why we do this, which
is the review what we watched on the field and
get past the news part of it. And regardless of
whether this had gotten done with Terry earlier, he wouldn't
have played very much in the preseason because very few
of the starters played in the three preseason games. There
were what one series with Jade and Daniels end what
was a compilation of the starters, because remember a number
(12:34):
of them didn't play on that right either because of injuries,
and then it was all backups in the other two
games and the starting defense played a little bit. What
did you make of that decision to use the starters
really sparingly in the three games.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
I think there's there's not one way to do it.
You know, you have some coaches that are going to
play starters in every preseason game, and then you got
some guys who take their approach to DQ to and say, hey,
we're gonna play our starts very fairly. I think at
the end of the day, you have to do what
(13:07):
you feel is best for your football team in any.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Given year, and any look like we played Cincinnati right, yes,
the last few years they didn't play their starters. Some
of it was Joe Burrow was injured, but they didn't
and they've come They had zero and two or worse
three straight years, and they came in this year and said,
that's not happening again. We're gonna play our starters. Did
against Philadelphia, did an extended period against Washington, and I
guess we're not at that point right now. Right like,
(13:32):
we're looking at things differently with our group.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
It just is again, it's all about and also what
you have to take it take into consideration the play.
The coaches they know, hey, we're I'm not gonna play
my starters in this this first preseason game, maybe just
a little bit second preseason game, majority not gonna play
in this third preseason game. So I'm gonna tailor my
practices to take those days into consideration.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
We're gonna have some hard practice.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
We're gonna I'm gonna really challenge them Mitchally, I'm going
to stress them out physically. I'm going to do a
lot of different things that the public won't see in
order to get.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
Them ready to play a football game.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
If you if you say, let's say, for instance, they're
playing in the first preseason game against New England, you
may not have as that same type of attests, UH practice,
joint practice with the with the New England Patriots.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
You may not have the scrimmage that you.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Had last week prior to the was it the Bengals
not the Bengals game, prior.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
Prior to the Ravens game.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
So you do different things to kind of take those
things in consideration. And that's not just that's not necessarily
to say that taking that approach, playing playing a series
or two in the in that preseason game, I would
have gotten as much work done.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
That's that's there's no guarantee.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Yeah, Like the best moment of the summer I thought
in watching the starters was the joint practice up in
New England. I was there for that, and I thought, like,
we saw Tunsel at his best. Suddenly you saw how
dominant he can be. Jane looked good, zach Ertz looked,
Quicker was separating better than did a year. We saw
(15:16):
the makings of what we're looking at for this year.
Then they turn around and play the game. None of
the starters are in there. And we were there after
the game with Dan Quinn in the locker room. He
was not pleased with a lot of things. Yeah, and
I got it, you know, like we didn't push him
too hard off the Ravens game because it was last
preseason game, and again none of the starters played. But
(15:38):
there were a lot of turnovers and there were a
lot of penalties, and he'd been talking about tackling. So
I think it's fair to say this was a slower
collective start I think to the summer than I think
maybe they had hoped or anticipated. But at the same time,
most of the primary players didn't participate in it, so
it's kind of hard to like figure out where we
(15:59):
stand right now.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
I think I think they would have they expected this
the let's call them majority of the second third, third
kind of group guys, back of the roster type guys,
back to the position group type guys to play much
better than they did, and there were some there were
some guys that did have some really good performances. But
(16:23):
I want to think I don't want people to think
that nobody played well in the preseason, because there were
some some really good performances by some guys in the preseason,
but collectively as a team, it wasn't It wasn't what
you would love to see from a from a product standpoint.
We know what the the New England game. They had
(16:43):
a totally different approach. And this my this is Mike
Vary was first year there. They they played their starters. Yeah,
they you can tell their game plan. They they they
spent time on Washington, on us and I mean they
came out it was Brady Statue Day and they played
with the intensity that we didn't match. The Ravens game,
(17:05):
especially when the when the two starters were in. That
was an exciting bag. First two series feel like a game.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
It really did.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
The first quarter and a half into the really late
part of the second quarter because Burrow played an extended
period of time that really felt like a game, and
it was reminiscent of the back and forth that we
had with them and we three the years and.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Then this this game against the Ravens. I was, man,
I thought it would be a lot more competitive games,
especially you know, you got the Battle of the Beltway,
so to speak, and the Ravens they've been doing it
almost twenty years with the same group of guys.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
Obviously knew something.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Although he's not the general manager, he's built helped build
this program for so long. Their PERSONNELI is, they don't
change systems. They keep the same type of systems in
play they right now that we did. We we didn't
compete with them the way I felt like we would
compete with them, And I'm sure the coaches didn't fil
like that either.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Yeah, but again, like I want to go back to, like,
I'm very curious what this all looks like against the
Giants Because most of the primary players participated so little
in all of these games, it's really kind of hard
to know. So how are they gonna utilize Deebo Samuel?
The Giants are about to find out? What does this
offensive line really look like? Assuming Laramie Tunseel Brandon Coleman
(18:22):
are healthy. We'll see with Sam Cosmy, you know, when
he can come back sooner rather than later. What does
the running game look like after the changes that they've
been made? And like, are we going to see a
very different offense than we did a year ago?
Speaker 3 (18:35):
I don't know. So there is a lot of good
thing secrecy here.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, even if they did play, you still wouldn't know
because they're not going to show you everything you would
have saw basically some bas generic type of offense from
our guys. They are going to show you these types
of rus that they're gonna have for the New York Giants,
(18:59):
the type of passing concepts that they're gonna have for
the New York Giants. First and foremost, they haven't. The
coaches have already probably spend some time on the Giants,
but they're not going at it with the players and say, hey,
these are players we're gonna we're gonna run against the Giants.
These are concepts that we're gonna run. These are runs
that we're getting ready to uh have in the in
(19:20):
the game against the Giants. So you still wouldn't know.
But here's the thing I do know is not that
this regular season is on. The intensity ramps up, the
focus ramps up. You have a guy in Bobby Wagner's
Super Bowl champion, you got Von Miller, two time Super
Bowl champion. You have Zach Ertz, who's who's won a
(19:42):
Super Bowl. You have some veteran guys that know how
to get ready for a regular season game, for the
opening of the season, and they will set the tone
in practice of how they need, how you need to
go about handling your business to get ready to blake
to play your best football.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
On September seventh.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
You know, I think this was also an interesting setup
this summer. Like they talk a lot hear about competition,
and sometimes if you take that in the literal sense,
it is like vying for positions. But if you think
about the roster that they brought in here, the veterans
that they signed, we walked into training camp short of injuries,
knowing pretty much. I mean that forty eight of the
(20:24):
fifty three were felt like they were pretty much set
walking in the building right, things could change. I think
the part of the backups not playing to the standard,
if you will, and the like how them being upset
about it was. I think dan Quinn and company wanted
to see them see something, Here is your opportunity. I
(20:45):
know it looks like that some of these jobs are
maybe not there, but show me, And I think that
felt like that's where it felt like to me a
little bit where it was just maybe a touch different
than what I expected. That said, the players who didn't
play were the players from the get go that I
expected to be playing on week one. Like, I didn't
feel like we walked into an extremely competitive for jobs
(21:07):
environment this summer.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
No, No, not at all, because as you mentioned, you know,
you had you had the guys who contributed at a high
great deal last year come back and then you have
your trade, your draft class, and you know, so to speak,
how that kind of goes. But there are there are
still some there were still some some battles. Who's gonna
be that that fifth wide receiver, that sixth wire receiver
(21:32):
if they carry six you're still you know, offensive lineman.
That's there's you're always battling for for you know, was
the eighth, ninth, tenth, tenth offensive lineman. The defensive end,
there's some competition at the defensive end position. Yes, so
there's a backup linebackers competition there. So there are some
(21:54):
some some places and spots that there are still some
decisions to be made.
Speaker 6 (21:59):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
And that's not to say that guys in those groups
there probably are some guys that they felt like really
stood out that said, hey, this guy has done what
he needs to do to solidify and justify him being
on this football team.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
Now, collectively as a.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Team, we might not have been a competitive but hey,
I was I wanted to really get a look at
this guy, and he showed me what I wanted to see. Yeah,
this guy showed me what I wanted to see, so
let's not lose.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Sight of that.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
We were watching Ale Caho, who's really undrafted free agent,
made a name for himself in a spot where there
was room for a young linebacker to kind of make
a name for himself. Robert McDaniel as an undrafted free
agent that kind of started to emerge late in camp
as someone that they got very interested in. I think
we're seeing development of Colson Yankov right now. Chris Paul
(22:47):
looks much more versatile than he did previously. He's always
had a lot of strength, but his versatility and his
positioning has changed. So there were a lot of positives.
Although I think the coaches, you know, all but sedative,
like collectively, I don't think they were overly pleased with
just they.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
I mean, it was, it was. It was not very good,
especially that uh that game against the Ravens at home.
Man thirty three.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
I'll say this though, we have to This is a
seventy man roster too, So you got your initial fifty
three and then the practice squad actually seventy one because
you got the h the Pathway uh yeah, Pathway player
as well. There's gonna be some and there might be
some releases around the league that we may add to
(23:38):
our our fifty three man roster. The third quarterback spot,
I think it's fair to say we we don't know
how they're gonna carry three, Are they gonna carry two?
If they if they only carry too an active roster,
they still don't have a quarterback or two on the
practice squad. Is it gonna be the guys who've already
been here? Did they show enough?
Speaker 5 (23:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I think a lot of that largely comes down to
Marcus Mariota had a lower leg strain. He's been dealing
with achilles tendonitis. He did work out before the Ravens game,
which I thought was a really good sign that things
are trending the right way for him. I know they
want to be very careful with something like that. You
don't want to push somebody with something like that and
have a season ending injury. And they need him. That
became abundantly clear. He's the backup quarterback in the team.
(24:20):
So I think that third quarterback conversation probably comes down
to how confident are they that Mariota is going to
be fine if need be Week one, week two against
the Giants.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
And even then, how much of a I mean when
you talking about third quarterback, So there's also a scenario
how quickly can you bring somebody in here and get
them up to speed to your offense because they're not
really going to get reps to run our offense and practice.
Those reps are going to Jay and Dall's and maybe
(24:49):
a sprinkle or two to Mariota. That guy's going to
have to really learn if you bring somebody in outside
who maybe doesn't have that background with Cliff, Yeah, Cliff
Kingsbury offense that that he was, how quickly can you
get that person up to speed without them being able
to get the reps needed that you build up the
(25:11):
OTA's offseason workos many cabs trying to camp the preseason guys,
those are those are all questions that remain.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
The one other big thing that happened this summer that
I want to get your thoughts on was the decision
to trade Brian Robinson and where the running back room
is as we head into the season where I'm assuming
they're going to keep for Logan Pulse is going to
join us in a minute, we'll talk about the roster construction.
But like Bill, the seventh round pick really flashed in camp,
showed some stuff in the games. Austin Eckler comes back,
(25:40):
I think feels like a primary back in many different
ways for them. Chris Rodriguez had a very nice Summer's
kind of re designed his body. He's got a lot faster.
Jerey McNichols, I know, is very well liked in the
room the others. It's a very competitive room. But Brian
Robinson obviously was a performer here for a few years
and a consistent one. What did you say think when
that happened, Well, think it was kind.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Of a parent that be Robb was going to be
moved when he didn't dress for the game against Cincinnati Bengals.
And when you look at this office and what they
want their backs to be able to do, and not
even just their backs, you don't want to necessarily give
the defense an indication. Hey when when be robs in
(26:24):
a game, it's an eighty percent run, because that's what
we do as defense. We look for tendency. So we're
going to call our game pay based on Tennessees for
whether it's a personnel grouping tendency. Donard, this is Tendessee.
Whatever we want to call our game plan based on that.
They call a defense based on that on a particular play.
With these other guys, you have guys that maybe can
(26:46):
do a little bit more. They can you can add
a little bit more in the passing game. You got
to acting you missing mentioned him is if it might
be fifty to fifty run pass when he's in the game.
Same thing with Jeremy McNichols. You have to see what
Bill can do, you know, consistently in the passing gay.
We know he can catch and he can make things
happen when you when he gets the ball in his hands.
(27:09):
We know he has a tremendous speed and burst and
all those things. In vision they had they got four guys.
Now assuming that you know these are the four guys
that they end up keeping, they can do a lot
of different things. And three of those guys, with the
exception of Eckler, they cover kicks too. They'll be out,
go out and play special teams. So you had that
(27:30):
dimension as well, and be Robb didn't. He didn't He
didn't cover kicks. So I think I think it ended
up being the right decision for the team. Be robbed
ended up in a great spot in San Francisco. They
love to run the football. I'm a huge Big b
Rob fan. I'll still support him and cheer for him,
but they made that decision that these are the guys
(27:51):
we don't go with, and these guys fit what we
want to do better.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Yeah, I really, I really like getting to know Brian
is a very nice young man. Obviously, if we know
happened his rookie season was terrible incident that occurred. He
ended up playing through it, and then you watch him
every summer training camp. He was the guy that was
signing out of grass for the kids and throwing footballs
with them and engaging with them. He's a very tough player.
I'm also rooting for him in San Francisco. I look
at this more as it was a fit thing more
(28:15):
than anything. I think they're looking for some, you know,
players that can maybe stretch the field a little bit differently,
home run hitting ability, catch the ball out of the backfield,
And I think it's just a schematic fit more than anything,
and I think they see more out of some of
these other players that fit this offense a little differently.
I'm sure he'll do fine at San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
They run that ball, Yeah, and you mentioned Chris Rod Drewguez.
I think Chris Chris is He's performed every with all
the opportunities he's been given, especially last season, and then
limited opportunities he got, he produced. We seen how these
how he's producing these in these preseason games. Broke out
the four, broke off the forty yarder against the Bagles,
(28:55):
broke off another long, really nice row to start the
game against the But so he's a he's somebody that
I want to see what he looks like with more
carries and more opportunities.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
I mean, he changed his number last year, was off
the team entirely at one point last year, came back
to an amazing story. If he becomes someone who gets,
you know, a little more opportunity than he did over
the first couple of years of his career.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
All right, we do have a third member.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Of our team on Sunday's, Mondays, Thursdays, whatever it's gonna
be this year. So we've got the craziest schedule of
all time. It is the one and only Logan Paulsen.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Yeah yeah, so every week the.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Dressed down Logan Paulson.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
You love me, hanging man.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
What's always been good to me, I should give you
a knuckler.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
It's nice to have you here with us. It's so
good to be here.
Speaker 6 (29:51):
Yeah, it kind of feels like I'm on the sideline,
you know.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
You guys just talk and I listen, and then all
of a sudden it's like, hey, Logan, what's up?
Speaker 6 (29:56):
Ye come in?
Speaker 4 (29:57):
So it's good that you're here playing. It's a bructioning
plate for sure.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Yeah, always complaining about his time.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
Yeah, and then the seed I get. It's just tough, man.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
They could have given you one of these nice chairs.
That wasn't my choice.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
I know you talked to me.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
We want to make you feel comfortable.
Speaker 6 (30:14):
You should comfortable to tell you that right now?
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Would you think of camp? What's you just general impression.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
When I think of camp, man, I mean, I always
like camp is fun, you know what I mean. I
think it's just hard to get a real evaluation from it,
you know what I mean. Like it's just one of
those things where you're kind of like, yes, here's the
thing that's happening, right, fletch, Like we are going against
our own team, but like, how good is the offensive
line really? How good is the defensive line really? And
I've said this to you, maybe you before Fletch. It's
like one of those things where you don't really know
(30:39):
what your team is until probably like week three or
four of the season, right, And again that's one of
those things where you're kind of in the NFL. I
think that's a good point. It's like, it's not that's
not an indictment of this team. It's every team I
ever played for, because I remember being part of the Bears.
So I got cut here and then I went to
the Bears, and I remember that team was objectively bad
and I had just come.
Speaker 6 (31:00):
In, right, it was like my first day.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
It was getting ready for week one and Jim Fox
got up, our coach Fox set up in front of
the team. He was like, we're gonna go to the
super Bowl, and I was like, I definitely know that's
not true because I just came from as other team, right. So, like,
I think that's part of the thing about this, Like
training camp is like good vibes. I love the way
coach Quinn handles it, but ultimately, like you don't know
until you know.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
As much as like monitor fan bases these days, by
the way, be careful with the Chicago people.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
They are ranked so they're.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Ranked very high on easily triggered people.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
So, just for the record, this is in twenty sixteen,
and that was a bad year.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
I wanted I wanted to ask how many guys did
y'all end up win today?
Speaker 6 (31:35):
Everyone? Four three three four games?
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Not quite super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (31:42):
Quite make the super Bowl, but we were very very close.
So yeah, I don't know, but yeah, we get. I
think the question was like, did anyone stand out in
the preseason?
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Right, you can answer it anyway.
Speaker 6 (31:52):
Yeah, so did anyone who set out for you in
the preseason?
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Fletch Man, I so, yeah, you got the obvious guys.
That's that's too think you. I think, yeah, let's let's
go in tears.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
Let's feel like with that starting group, anybody stick out
to you there, and then we'll go down and maybe something.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
So for some reason, I was going to start with
younger guys, but I don't. I had to go big
with Jaden stood out. Oh yeah, Mikey Savage Steele stood
out making plays.
Speaker 6 (32:18):
To dude, how good was Mikey though?
Speaker 5 (32:21):
Oh he's outstanding.
Speaker 6 (32:22):
I mean every practice, right, Bran.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
Yeah, he is outstanding.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Mikey Stash Salmon Steel stood out totso I stood out
even more so when in enjoint practices.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
Who else Trey.
Speaker 6 (32:36):
Amos, Dude, I think that whole secondary, Yeah, he.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
Really stood out.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
The secondary.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
I would argue from last year to this year, that
went from a weakness to a strength overnight, and it
might be the strongest part of the defense. Like I
might argue that the reason why that I think that
they feel confident that they're going to play the style
they want to play that they didn't play a year
ago is be because of the confidence in that group
that they have right now. Marshaun Lattimore has looked healthy
(33:03):
to me.
Speaker 5 (33:04):
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
I'm hoping that's gonna be the case. Amos looks like
a walk in the door first day starter, I hipped. Hopefully,
we know what Sanders still was last year, and they're
moving him to a position they think he's going to
excel at. They have real depth now behind them, and
I think the safeties, especially Kwan, have really come on
here in another year. The secondary looks like a massive
strength for this team.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Well, I wanted to guy, ask you like a flash
fled specifically, like when I see Santum still practice right
his ability to produce the ball every day, whether he's
punching it out, interception ball skills like, and he didn't
play a ton in the preseason, but like, I don't know, man,
I was worried about him going from outside inside because
I feel like that's a really tough transition. But all
of a sudden he comes in there and you write
about going from outside side because it's a different position,
(33:48):
you know what I mean, People, it's tougher to go.
Speaker 5 (33:51):
Well, it's just thought it was to be tougher for
him to go to outside.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
Right, But then but then you're coming back and it's
not the same as it was last year. So I
look at him, I'm like, man, he's tackling in the
run game. Yeah, he's producing the football like and it
just I just was blown away with how effective he
was this training.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Where we had Joe Witt on the conference call and
he called him a dirt dog. Dirt dogs, dirt dog,
And what he was basically said is this dude is
an animal.
Speaker 5 (34:16):
He is a pit bull.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Don't let don't let the the well spoken is you know,
we had a few of those.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
I think Terry's that way. I think Jade is too.
Don't be the smile does a.
Speaker 5 (34:28):
Kill on this side. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
But but with Mikey, he's just so tough. You look
at his size, like, man, he's not He's not extremely big.
He reminds me of a teammate that I had in
Buffalo at Twine Winfield. Joke, you played Twine Whinfield the father, Yes.
Speaker 6 (34:45):
Because like I remember him just being an absolute savage.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
That one was five maybe nine on this tippy toes
one hundred.
Speaker 6 (34:55):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Five ten easy, easy, yeah, five?
Speaker 6 (35:03):
Look at you got feet.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
That's like Mike doesn't look really physically imposed.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Powerful pile, was the best tackling in the NFL, the
hardest hitter in the NFL. Could blitz, wasn't afraid to
mix it up, could go inside outside, And that's Mikey.
Speaker 5 (35:22):
Yeah, de bows look really good in the preseason.
Speaker 6 (35:24):
Two look great. And because he only got a couple
of resps.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
The other guy, I want to ask you about number
fifty two on the defensive line, Dude, how big and
how And that's the other thing is he's looked like
I followed his career from San Francisco kind of up
and down.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
Obviously played better last.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Year with New York serious injuries early, but.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Like then you look at him this year and he's
like he's like a man out there, like an explosive,
twitchy dude. You watch him in the Cincinnati game throwing
people on the ground, Like I feel like he's another
guy that deserves a shout out for him training cat.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
He's when you see him stand next to someone like
doron paint and he makes pain look small.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
How funny is that?
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Right, all of a sudden you realize how large he is.
I think he's like for those who like, because I
have kids wreck at Ralph where it's every play I'm
a wreck it, and that's what it feels like. There
are times when he stands up to people like he
ruins plays like immediately he can have that kind of presence.
(36:24):
Whether that turns into sacks or like the types of
plays that like he makes personally in the stat line
or whether that opens it up for other people is
interesting to me. And whether he does this consistently I
think will be the part that.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
We're here's here's what I want fast to understand. And
so with a guy like Ken Law, with that power
that he has in his lower body in his hands,
so there was a couple of plays, and you mentioned
how he jumped off in Cincinnati. So let's imagine were
on the first down, first first or second down, we're
on situation, and he makes a tackle at the line
(37:03):
of scrimmage, or maybe he gets off of blocks and
it's a one or two yard game. So now it's
second and nine, is second and eight, and also continue
maybe it's third and seven, third and eight as opposed
to third and three. You don't get off that block,
you're the running back is able to pick up four
(37:24):
or five yards on first down. Now you're there operating
in second and mediums, third and mediums, he's going to
have an impact and that probably more than sack numbers.
He's gonna get us in a He's gonna get us
in a lot of situation where we earn the right
to rush the passer. You have to be really I
would say third and four more to truly even third
(37:48):
and four is kind of on the low end. Third
and five or more to really be able to truly
rush the passer.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Well, I think you saw that in the Cincinnati game, right,
like their ability to get him longer down in the distances.
You saw more exotic pressures and obviously just as a
point of junksupposition, like when you watch the Baltimore game
and they're in third and two, third and three, and
it's just it's hard to live in that world, right,
So I think you feel the effect of kin Law.
Dietrich Wise very similar player in that regard, just kind
of these big formidable yes, dude, formidable, great word.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (38:17):
I actually think Dietrich Wise looks more like a round.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
Big Barris on this booth room view. Formidable formid.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Yeah, they are, like they have clearly prioritized size.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Yeah, and it matters for both sides of the ball.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Like the Laramie Tunzel trade had a trickle down effect
on the entire offensive line that I think we're going
to see in real time.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
What I'm hoping is for better.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Protection, less less realizations that Jade has to vacate the
pocket sooner. He can become more of a past first
quarterback than maybe he was a year ago, because his
accuracy and his ability to throw the ball I think
wasn't as on display as it can be if he
gets the right type of protection packages. And on the
other side, we have what looks to be a much
more formidable line that hopefully can control the run on
(38:58):
first and second down, and all sudden we get into
all of these types of things where they have all
these different packages, which I can't wait to see how
they utilize a lot of different players as specialists this
year to generate a pass rush.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Okay, so that's the top of the roster there kind
of all the guys we've talked about. Anybody at the
bottom of the roster that surprised you, And I got
a follow up question once you kind of give me
a couple of.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
Names, you know, Like we were talking about this earlier,
Like I felt like we came into a season where
there wasn't a lot of room for a lot of
younger guys to potentially nudge their way onto the roster.
I felt like that this was not a locked roster,
but it was going to take some conditions to kind
of change all of that. But there are a couple
of people that did really stand out to me. I
(39:39):
like Caho, the undrafted rookie lying backer. I thought did
a really good job.
Speaker 6 (39:45):
You probably liked him, I did.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
I did. I liked him.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
He kind of plays like old school.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
I'm just saying I really liked him.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
I thought Hamilton Antonio Habita, and I know we we
kind of it's gonna be hard to break in that
that cornerback room. But I thought he did some really
good job, really good things on the football field. And
we have to understand, I know you understand this, both
of you guys understanding it's not just about the fifty
(40:17):
three is also that seventy man rocks because you're you're
developing these guys for hey injuries down the road, with
the flexibility, be able to call guys up on game day,
guys that can cover kicks, produce if need be. Ja
Cory Brooks, Yeah, I thought he did some really think
(40:37):
good things. To Meler, He's he's really you know, put
himself into position to hey, maybe I'm just I'm.
Speaker 5 (40:45):
The other receiver.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
The other guy would bring up is Jalen Lane. I
think that he kind of walked in.
Speaker 6 (40:50):
He's like a roster lock though, right.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
But like I think he walked in with he's gonna
be our punt returner.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
At least that's the hope.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
He's gonna be the punt returner and then because of
his speed, we'll find some things for him to do.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
But we know who the.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Primary receivers are Terry Deebo, Noah Brown. There's just not
gonna be a lot of room on the field. Well,
because of some things that happened, Noah Brown's injury, Terry's injury,
and then you know, whatever else was going on, right,
it gave him opportunities to do other things in camp.
And I thought it was quite noticeable to me that
in the Ravens game, Luke McCaffrey benson it played Jane
(41:28):
Lane did not, So I like I took that as
a message of we saw some of the things that
he's capable of, and maybe maybe I don't think it's
necessary because everybody's back in the fold and hopefully healthy,
that there might be more of an eye opening about
him about things he could do as opposed to maybe
what they thought he was just going to be entering
(41:49):
camp this year.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Yeah, I think that's one hundred percent legitimate, because again,
like I was surprised with some of his rot running nuance,
you didn't really see at Virginia Tech. That offense is
kind of like rough to watch. They had poor quarterback play.
But something I want to ask both you guys that
I think is really interesting is like when you're so
like we did a fifty three man roster when we
were waiting to come on the show, right, kind of
just going through positions, and so you mentioned Al Caho, right,
(42:10):
and it's like Ali Caho versus Trent Scott versus Jerryman
McNichols versus you know, Jacob Martin, and so you've got
all these different people that are kind of competing for
the bottom, you know, last four roster spots. Let's say,
and I'm not saying that I just threw out some names.
I'm not saying anything specifically about those guys, But how
(42:30):
do you compare it?
Speaker 6 (42:31):
Is it?
Speaker 4 (42:32):
And I'm sure you've been on a bunch of teams,
You've covered a bunch of teams, like how do they
make those decisions?
Speaker 5 (42:36):
Here?
Speaker 2 (42:38):
First and foremost positions that you need a little bit
more depth depth at because of history of the position,
and you're going to suffer. It's probably a little bit
more catastrophic to deal with an offensive line injury as
opposed to a I mean call a tight end injury.
Speaker 6 (42:57):
Oh, I feel like that's a little bit of a shot.
Speaker 5 (43:00):
It's not, it's not. I was just saying, like.
Speaker 4 (43:02):
You can survive it. But you can, you can find
a way different personnel groupings.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
Yeah, yeah, we we we we we need an office
in lineman. That's they're too valuable. I think it's so
say you're gonna carry this team is gonna carry less
linebackers than some other teams because we only play two
dollars two linebackers majority of the time, so there's not
a ton of us playing three.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
Say they plan to play more three lineback.
Speaker 2 (43:29):
Again earlier, right, yeah, he did, But are we going
to see that on a consistent basis? The region you
probably won't is because a lot of teams, there are
so many office there's so many three ride receiver sets
that you just unless you got some linebackers that can
truly fly and then you got versatil we got safeties
that can come in the box and kind of be
(43:49):
that like a big, big safety kind of.
Speaker 6 (43:52):
A small wheel.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
So that's that's those are those are things that that
coming into that.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
I used a couple of other things here too, like
after just taking into taking into account like are they
going to carry three quarterbacks or not?
Speaker 3 (44:05):
Are they just command I don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (44:08):
But that's when we talk about these position groups you
have to take that into account.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
Are they going to do that?
Speaker 1 (44:14):
Then it starts putting on the margins, maybe somebody you
wanted to keep, and you have to make a choice
between which position group is going to be short.
Speaker 4 (44:21):
So my numbers are off on this. You know why
why I didn't put quarterbacks on here?
Speaker 5 (44:25):
I mean, so you have quarter back when.
Speaker 6 (44:30):
You have thirteen off No, I just had another one
extra one.
Speaker 5 (44:34):
You can I hear your numbers.
Speaker 4 (44:35):
You got the numbers on a position twenty three offensive
players and twenty five defensive players and four specialists before.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
I account he counts beloor, he will be counted account.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
So you got twenty twenty three offensive place twenty quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
Yeah yeah, so now then that would get us to fifty. Right,
so I probably plus one. I'm a heavy one, is
what I would say.
Speaker 5 (44:58):
So you got to find one. One gonna drop once more?
Speaker 3 (45:01):
You have two quarterbacks making it what you have?
Speaker 6 (45:03):
That's defensive players twenty five.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
Twenty five, twenty five and three if you count below
as a linebacker, and three specialists.
Speaker 4 (45:12):
All right, So just doing math math, bas not every
team does that.
Speaker 5 (45:17):
The offense gets one more player.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
Really, why how most of the time that is how
it goes at which position group a defense?
Speaker 6 (45:25):
That coach?
Speaker 4 (45:26):
My guy, So is that is that the thing? It's
on the sheet it says, don't be surprised if they
carry one more offensive player. Is that your thing?
Speaker 5 (45:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (45:32):
Yeah, twenty so twenty six and twenty six offense, twenty
four defense and three special.
Speaker 4 (45:38):
But it's a defensive head coach. I feel like you're
going to get a little no.
Speaker 5 (45:42):
This twenty six Do you tell us what you know?
Twenty six off?
Speaker 1 (45:46):
Twenty four beating around the bush like you obviously know something.
Why did you just say it?
Speaker 5 (45:52):
So?
Speaker 6 (45:52):
Twenty six twenty four is what you think?
Speaker 5 (45:54):
I think it's twenty six offense.
Speaker 4 (45:56):
I have a hard The defense was hard for me, man,
because you look at the defensive back I feel like you.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
Got ten locks, right, yes, five.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
I carried five linebackers, which maybe is one heavy because
I thought, I think Kho makes the team. I think
he played well enough for it. And then I got
ten defensive linemen. I got five safeties, five corners, so
ten DB's yeah, five linebackers and ten defensive linemen. Yeah,
Fletch doesn't like it.
Speaker 6 (46:19):
Let's just shift an over the seat.
Speaker 5 (46:20):
Because I don't. I think it's gonna be a little bit.
It's gonna be one one more offense.
Speaker 6 (46:26):
I mean you heard here first.
Speaker 3 (46:29):
Numbers. Well, so like how many offensive linemen.
Speaker 5 (46:32):
Do you have? Ten?
Speaker 4 (46:33):
Yeah? I remember we had had ten and then it
had caused me going to pup though that's what I had, so.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
Nine, yes, nine, not to make a decision at a
later date if that were to happen is nine and
what six wide receivers?
Speaker 6 (46:44):
Yeah? That was That was also very tough for me.
Speaker 1 (46:46):
Because there's clearly four tight ends. It looks like there's
four running backs. If it's two quarterbacks, that's where your
that's where your margin is. Yeah, five or six receivers correct?
Speaker 5 (46:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (46:55):
Yeah, And I don't know if you I don't know,
we'll you guys talked about the receivers earlier. He said
that was kind of a tough off can't battle to
watch because no one really asserted themselves.
Speaker 6 (47:02):
And I would totally agree with you.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
Yeah. I thought what I liked about Brooks was.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
He may plays the contested catches way like he went
out and there was a plate the other day he
runs a five yard hitch uh corners over him, right
all over him. Makes the Cats though, like you're not
gonna you're not always gonna get separation. He's a bigger
body receiver something we don't have a ton of big
(47:29):
body receivers. And from a developmental standpoint, you look at, hey,
what can what can he turn out to be?
Speaker 4 (47:37):
To me, like I would look at him and say, like,
I think he's talented, I think he's got some ability,
but he's an undrafted free agent.
Speaker 6 (47:43):
I think you get him a practice squad. I don't
think he's That's that's so said. I'm saying. So that's
kind of my thought there is like even though.
Speaker 5 (47:52):
Maybe you only carry five receivers, well.
Speaker 6 (47:54):
I have I have I have k I have Osborne
making it. But that's I have that in red.
Speaker 4 (47:57):
So I actually think my surprise thing will be surprised
if that six receivers from a different team.
Speaker 3 (48:02):
That's what I think too.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
That's if there if there is an addition from another team,
it feels like it's that position group to me that
I think once we get through cutdown day around the league,
all right, let's do quick season prediction.
Speaker 5 (48:15):
It will let you stay.
Speaker 1 (48:19):
All right, let's do some season prediction stuff here. What
do you think of the NFC East. Let me let
me get that just general out of the way. Where
do you what does that look like to you this year?
Speaker 2 (48:30):
I think it's going to be probably the There are
three three really competitive teams in the NFC East. I
take that back, two really competitive days in the NFCI.
Speaker 3 (48:42):
Think there might be three, but you might be.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
You've been on the Giant. I think Philly, You've got
to give them their respect. There, the there, the you know,
the the target in the in the East, we're going
to be extremely competitive. I think the Giants, the Cowboys
guy so much going on with the Giants, Dave, they
can be competitive. They always competitive, so I wouldn't be
surprised about time.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
I mean, they're going to be interesting for week one,
not unlike with our defense, with some of the additions
that we have, and I think stylistically we might be
a little different. We have to see what they look like.
You go look at them on paper, especially their front
Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Kevon Thibadeau will see what Abdol
Carter is. I think they made great additions on their
back end. Paulson Adebo Javon Holland on paper they're way
(49:29):
better defensively than they were a year ago, and specifically upfront.
It's going to be a really, really, really good test,
and then we'll see how their quarterback situation plays out
through the year the most important part. But I'd be
like for them, they use the first round pick on
a quarterback who's not going to start in a week
run unless something changes. And he was the best looking
(49:50):
quarterback of the group. So at some point in time
if things aren't going well, there's gonna be a drum
beat that he's playing like it comes.
Speaker 6 (49:56):
From that old miss offense. I think that's gonna be
a tough turn.
Speaker 4 (49:59):
You got you know, Russell Wilson, who I think is
a borderland Hall of Fame candidate, but like doesn't look
like that guy anymore. I again, like, I think the
defense is going to be a problem. It's going to
be a tough out defense because they can rush the passer.
I think they can cover better on the back end.
But the thing is, like, you got it. As much
as it pains me to say this, sit next to
you know, future Hall of Famer London Fletcher. This is
an offensive driven league, right, so if you can't score
(50:19):
points and if you don't have a quarterback, you're going
to be an I don't care. You can hold them
to three points like.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
This felt like to me the Patriots a little bit yeargo.
I think their defense was very good, but they had
no way of scoring points.
Speaker 5 (50:29):
And I think after a while.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Yeah, I agree, So they could be Dallas. I'm not sure, Well.
Speaker 6 (50:36):
What a lot of if they're good or like what.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
A lot of things like just do they have a
run game? Yeah, you know, what is their run defense?
If THEA is going to continue to be the way
it's been, like a new coach, right, unusual circumstances by
which they got to it.
Speaker 3 (50:55):
I think there's just a lot going on there.
Speaker 5 (50:56):
You know.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
I think they have a lot of very good players, obviously,
but I think it's just a lot one on there.
Speaker 4 (51:00):
Yeah, and I got all the all those young guys
on the offensive line. I do think though, like you
look at like the explosive weapons that they've added, ceedee
lamb pickens, like that feels like it could be have
a little bit more teeth to it than it's had
in the past couple of years. They had that blue
kid from LSU that kind of our Texas to kind
of pass catching four two back, Like, I don't know, man,
if that if Dak Prescott plays like you did two
(51:21):
years ago, that could be a tough They could be
a tough out offensively because again, like I think their
defense is okay, but like it's a quarterback driven system, right, So,
like he was a borderline MVP candidate a couple years ago.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
What do you think of the schedule the way, especially
after we get through about the first month, that we're
just never playing at one o'clock anymore. Every games at night,
We're going to Madrid Christmas Day, standalone games Monday night,
Sunday night.
Speaker 6 (51:45):
No big smile, Fletcher, I think it's tough.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
Oh no, it's it's extremely tough. But the schedule is
what it is. It's just you got to deal with it.
Whatever time the game is, you just you get ready
to play that game. Ideally, yeah, we would all love
one o'clock Sunday games, but weren't hide high demand. Man,
the Jayden Daniels effect a bunch of prime It's exciting exactly.
(52:11):
So there's that's that's that's one of the things that
you have to accept that, hey, we're considered one of
the better football teams in the league, and they want
to see us in prime time.
Speaker 4 (52:21):
I think the other thing, too, man, is like I
trust this staff, like the way they handled the Arizona
game last year, kind of staying out there, Like, I
think they'll find edges in the schedule to make it
easier on the players. And again, I think we do
have a forward kind of problem solving staff. I think
that's going to be extremely advantageous. So, like, yes, am
I concerned about the schedule, as you guys know, I'm
concerned everything. But that's how it was as a player,
(52:43):
That's how I am as an analyst, right, But I
do think that that's I think they'll find the best
way to make me feel the best about.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
It profession Here's what I Here's one thing we haven't
talked enough enough about is No, we didn't win the
Super Bowl last year, but a lot of teams are
going to be gonna to knock us off to a
great point. We're a twelve or five football team that
made it to the NFC Championship Game that has gotten
(53:10):
a lot of let's call it off season hype or
whatever attention you look at all the prime time guys,
we're going to get everything's best shot, and.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
We're going to be part of every media outlets, so
like social media circles, they're gonna be a topic every week,
win or lose. That's different about this team than it's
been in previous year. So they're constantly going to be
in the national media cycle because of the expectations, because
of the quarterback, because of the season that came off
of that. There's gonna be a tremendous amount of attention
(53:40):
that's put on the teams here.
Speaker 6 (53:41):
And I don't know, like I've always felt like that
was really hard.
Speaker 4 (53:43):
And maybe it's because I got burned or we got
burned because you're on that team too, from twenty twelve
to twenty thirteen. Yes, that's but like it's I think
you got to learn how to handle success, like I
remember my high schol football coach. You got to learn
how to handle success like and I think jayde Daniels,
Bobby Wagner, Zach Er, it'z all this Like there's one
of the questions on here is this is the oldest
roster in the NFL. I think that's people looked at
(54:04):
as a negative. I think it's a good thing going
to this year. I think it's a good thing.
Speaker 5 (54:06):
I agree, but do not bring twenty thirteen. Okay, so Logan,
you and I were on that team. Yeah you know
that was some stuff.
Speaker 6 (54:14):
No, yeah, other stuff. But what I'm saying is like.
Speaker 5 (54:16):
That impacted everything that happened out.
Speaker 4 (54:19):
But I think that's a good example, like of like
Dargy three as an example, and we know he's a
different kind of cat obviously, but he came into the
limelight and had a really hard time managing that in
the context of the team. And I just hope that
there's enough veteran leadership here again because I like to
worry about stuff.
Speaker 6 (54:34):
Man, I'm a warrior. Can we handle it?
Speaker 5 (54:37):
Can we handle it?
Speaker 6 (54:38):
I can? I mean I'm not doing it second handle it.
Speaker 5 (54:40):
Here's what I'll say. Jaden is so will so grounded.
Speaker 6 (54:48):
Man, I love it. Preach flesh.
Speaker 5 (54:49):
He is so.
Speaker 6 (54:50):
I'm feeling better already my blood pressure.
Speaker 5 (54:52):
He is so grounded.
Speaker 6 (54:53):
It's like a nursery.
Speaker 2 (54:54):
Focused on all the things he needs to do to improve. Yeah,
he Rookie of the Year doing all the different things
he did, But how can I get better?
Speaker 6 (55:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (55:04):
What are the things that I need to work on?
Speaker 2 (55:06):
What were the tendencies I had, the weaknesses, all the
different things that I did, and I mean just he
continues to have that same type of humility that they
had from the first moment he step to this building.
So when you have him, you got other leaders like
that part you got DQ. Really they said the standard
(55:26):
of about Hi, we haven't arrived. Yeah, we did some
good things, but we have not arrived. We have more
that we more levels that we can get to.
Speaker 1 (55:36):
And somebody who's just been in the media world forever,
like things were a little noisy this summer, noisier than
I kind of thought they would be based on the
loster they were bringing in. And it's why, just kind
of circling back to the beginning, I'm glad this Terry
stuff is over because it puts that to bed. That
is not over. There's no more talking about it anymore.
He's on board for here now into the future, and
(55:57):
we can put that behind us and get back in
the place where we were, which was everybody was rowing
the boat the same way. It was just a little
noisy this summer, and I'm glad some of that noise
is clearing up before we get to the Giants.
Speaker 5 (56:07):
Week one, I think.
Speaker 6 (56:07):
We're all glad, right, I mean, I mean I wasn't
here for that segment. I got to listen to it
in the in the back over there.
Speaker 3 (56:12):
How do we do?
Speaker 4 (56:13):
It?
Speaker 6 (56:13):
Was pretty good.
Speaker 5 (56:14):
Shocked about it.
Speaker 6 (56:16):
I'm stoked, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (56:23):
I think when you look at a guy that can
stretch the field vertically, has some route running nuance, and
again like has a good relationship with Jayden.
Speaker 5 (56:29):
Like.
Speaker 4 (56:29):
One of the things we talked about this offseason was
that receiver battle, and part of it was guys were
having to step into rolls because Terry and Noah weren't here.
So now it's like, hey, don't have to worry about that.
We've got guys that are going to make plays and
do good things. And think about that three deep now
with Noah and Debo and how they can be so
creative there in terms of getting Debo creative touches. Noah
can take offset some of that stuff from Terry. So
(56:50):
I think it's it feels like everything's right, feels like
we can hit the season going full speed, which is
exactly what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
Yeah, let's just get back to where we were, which
is gum drops and sunshine.
Speaker 3 (56:58):
Because that's what it was last year.
Speaker 5 (57:00):
And I just liked.
Speaker 1 (57:01):
I liked that we've gotten some of the noise, you know,
I like closed off all right. I think we've talked enough.
I think we've talked about.
Speaker 4 (57:09):
Thank you guys so much for this bench is like,
no kidding, hurting really bad man.
Speaker 5 (57:14):
We can get a pant.
Speaker 4 (57:15):
Yeah, like one of those like when you're watching your
kids at the high school game, one of those.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
Pants, all rights breaking stuff. Logan and loud it up
Brim next week. Full season preview on the Booth review
