Speaker 1 (00:00):
Coming up on the Get Loud podcasts. We get to
celebrate because now Terry is signed.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
And we're dip much closer to the season.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Offend, we're gonna talk offense, we're gonna talk defense, and we're.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Gonna talk about wolves, a lot of wolf. Yeah, why not?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
How you know, guys, it is they get a Loud
of podcasts. Persboy. Sea Geek, the official primary ticketing partner
of the Washington Commanders. Find tickets to Commanders games.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
And more at Sea Geek. Yes, back in the studio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
God, this is kind of.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Where we've lost nostalgic. It's nostalgic plus it's cool.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Plus it also means we're closer to the.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Regular season, the real things.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
But this is these two days for ex football player,
It kind of pulls on my horse screens. We call
it black Monday and Black Tuesday because a lot of
dreams are just like a puff of smoking air. Yeah,
like a lot of guys that put their heart, sweat
and tears into a whole summer trying to make a team,
(00:57):
and a lot of them are right now sitting with
coaching at a desk and the coaches saying this, you know,
we gonna think about you if we need. But you know,
it's a numbers game and we're getting it down to
fifty three. I'm sorry you're not a part of that
fifty three.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Kills dreams man.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
So as good as this day is for the people
that made it, for the guys that didn't, it hurts man.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
And there's some of those guys like they have to
know right, like they know it's coming.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Well, some of them do because they they've been in
their own head the whole offseason, playing the numbers game
in their head. All right, you can't like, that's the
one thing you can't do. You gotta let it work
yourself out. Now, what I do like now that we
can have an enlarged practice squad, a lot of these
guys that you see name released on the bottom of
the screen, we'll be re signed yes to the practice squad.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
So it ain't all bad.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
It ain't all dark, right, some of these guys will
be retained, and some of these guys on the press
squad actually gonna be exked to come up during the
season and play.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
So it ain't all bad. But my heart goes out
to these guys because I know how much they put in.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Well, you want to hear more great tasts like that.
You gotta come out to Duffy's. Duffy's Live this Friday.
Put it on your calendar, put it in your head,
write it down, grab a pin, put it on your palm.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Whatever.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Duffy's Capitol Hill eight o'clock live taping. Come on out.
Got a long weekend, plenty of time to recover from
maybe throwing back a couple of pops. Why not get
some food as well. It's always a great time. We
had a great time last time.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, and we guess what our special guests is going
into the Ring of Fame. So if you want to
see Santana, that probably be the last time you can
see him before he's immortalized into the Ring of Fame.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
That's right. Duff is just the place to do it.
Good eats, good drinks. Come on down. We'll meet you there. Now.
Do you have to mention?
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Oh man, I was about to mention this. This is
how I know we've been working with Anna for a while.
I had to mention it's only twenty one and over.
So I glance over and she's going, yes, twenty one
and over. Yeah, And she's been put on this for
the old people be there or be square. Yeah, so
you gotta come out.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
I say that's very old. Yeah, yeah, I love it.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
So if you're underage you can't come out to Duffy's
this time, will come out for another event which you
can't come something for you just can't come up with this?
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Who can't come to Northwest Stadium? How about that? Yeah?
Do that? We take on the youth at Northwest Stadium.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Also, we love hearing from you guys, So give us
a call on the house phone. It's seven O three
seven two six seven four one nine. You know it
seven O three seven two six seven four one nine
or email us Washington get loud at gmail dot com.
And apparently we got some great voicemails this week.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Yeah, I like listen, we could be the only podcast
in America that takes voicemails. We have to be.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
We have to at least on a house phone.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Well, you know, after what Taylor Swiftingam did to us
a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
I didn't want to say it, you want to reveal it.
I mean it just happened as we're taping.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yeah, yeah, so yeah, I guess we gotta talk to
it because since they bummed us.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
When it came down, podcasts had.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
One point three million people, set the Guinness World Record
for podcasts people watching a single podcast.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
O my god.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
So they pulled out the big guns on them because
they knew we was in a cunt. They knew we
was in the same category with sports with them, and
we was right there. We was right there. We were
close to Jason said, you know what, Trail, call your
girl till it come on.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
But it's not my girl Trail, that's my Fieuance. Yep,
they're engaged.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
They're engaged, and I can barely contain herself think we
won't to do this show.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
I'm trying to keep it together. I'm so excited for this.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
All the very talented women on our staff lost their minds.
You and Mad was walking around going.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
On a Tuesday, on a Tuesday. They're playing music, They're
pushing music.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Music, started playing Why we don't.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Get so happy as guys like like when you hit
me up, like yeah, I'm about to get married.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
It was like, hey, brother, good congratulations.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
You can be really excited if you want, if you want.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
No me and just I think we consume information differently,
probably yes, probably, And of course, right after they get married,
she's gonna drop the album married one. She's gonna drop one.
She's gonna drop that one. It's gonna go super platinum.
All right, maybe your voice over from trail, will you?
(05:13):
That's all your hears? Will you?
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yes? Yes, I will. But I hate to to my
own horn. But when they started dating, you caught it.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
I said, they were getting married because he's.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
So different that she's ever dated. Very true.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
He's edgy, he's an athlete, kind of rough around the edges,
real grounded for all his accomplishments.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Not like she's gonna follow in love with this guy.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
I said it from the door. He had already professed
his love. That's how they got together. So I said,
match made in heaven. Once I seen her chilling with
Mama Kelsey, you knew, I said, you know what, they
getting married.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
That's how you know. You went Overman, that's a huge man.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Listen, I knew they was getting Congratulations NFL Royalty Op
Star Roty, it works.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Good luck to Taylor and Travis. Everybody's cheering for you.
I mean I'm getting I'm getting notifications from ESPN, The
Washington Post, Yahoo Fantasy like everybody's right, just every personal text.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
What is this gonna do personally for your marriage coming up?
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Is this gonna put any unneeded unmoaned stress?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Is it gonna put uh any symbolans I want it
to be?
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yes, I'm gonna get home and the whole thing is
gonna be changed. You know, Taylor and have us to
getting married. Also, I see you some tiktoks and like
I bet their wedding ideas. Yeah, it's gonna change everything
list and we pretty much decided on everything. Yes, not
now ye start all over again.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
No, I know beforehand y'all like, just just keep it intimate,
let keep it small.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
That's out the one of the James.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Also, it's gonna be Did you see Taylor's ring? Yes,
that's a Taylor's ring.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah. I don't play in the NFL. How you guys say,
is I gave you yours before he gave That's right?
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yeah, who got to your first game? Well here's a
marriage that everybody can also get behind. Yes, Terry McLaurin
and the Washington come out.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
You want to talk about a sweep met let's go. Yes, sir,
we've been waiting on this one. Like I said, I
knew it was gonna happen, right at the end of
the day. Both want to do it, but it's the
art of negotiation. And I think this what got the
fans all up in the uproar. Yeah, I got the
dude sit back right. Let them hash this thing out. Yeah,
(07:24):
five years ago we just threw money everywhere.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
No, they are tension to detail. Now.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Got to take his feelings out of negotiation. Feelings out
of negotiation. That's rule number one. Yeah, feelings out of negotiation,
Rule number two. It'll get done when it gets done.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
And you know what it's done. And we got a
week and a half now before the season opened against
the Giants, and you already have that built in chemistry.
Of course you would like to get a little more time.
But the important thing now is we can focus on football.
And I'm glad that both sides handled themselves the way
that they did.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Because it could look like what's going on with the
Cowboys exactly what I was saying.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
It could look just like that, It's terrible, what's going
on with the Cowboy? No, it's not. It's very good.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Was good, right, you look at it. This is kind
of a new problem for this franchise in that you've
got now a star player who wants to get paid,
and you have a general manager who has real NFL experience,
is successful experience, who are now trying to come together
and negotiate. And this happens with successful franchises all the.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Time, all the time, all the time. This is what
it is. We used to pay the loser text. Yes,
we used to pay the lose of text. And this
is when you had to chronically overpay for all the
people that you bring in and chronically overpay all the
people that you have in house. We're not doing it anymore.
We're running this thing like a Fortune five hundred company.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Get used to it.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
When you think about Terry, what does he mean to
this organization because this was kind of a special case.
Like I know Micah means a lot to the Cowboys
because he's a very good football Playerah, And same thing
with Trey Hendrickson. But here it's different because Terry just
earned the respect of the fans and the front office
with how he handled himself before the new ownership took over.
(09:07):
Because all he did was put his head down to
go to work, and he's.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Endured at all with a smile on his face.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
All Right, If anybody is a Washington Washingtonian when it
comes to being a football player, it's Terry McLaurin.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Right.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
He's it's not just him on the football field, it's
him off the football field. He's one of those guys
that and that don't happen everybody. Just because you draft
somebody high and they become a good player, they don't
make them part of this community. Right, Like we've seen
that all the time. But Terry is part of this
community and people are happy to see him back.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
But all the stuff that he's been.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Through, I think that's where the fans was like, come on,
gonna pay him. The new regime is like, now we
need to make sure it works for you, and it
works for right, And I think that's where the fans
got an uproar about it.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah, because it's like, yes, we want to pay you
for sure, but also we're trying to build something for
the long term here. Yeah, because we got a franchise
quarterback now, added pieces and we have other contracts down
the line, will have to negotiate. Yeah, we got to
make sure we're smart about this so we can build
a championship.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
That's the order of it. You got realized, you got
Larry and Thomson coming up.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Frank Louis will be back in a little bit like So, yes,
you have to look towards the future, but also feet
down in the prison.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
And I think that's what it is it's about.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Now, how much better is this offense with Terry McClain.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Ah ten times better?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
First of all, he is uh And this is what
I always say. Me and Santana like the talk wire
receivers all the time. He was like, man, which wire
receiver was hard to cover? And I always tell him
the ones that don't have a single identifier. All right,
if I talk Joy Galloway, first thing come up with speed,
(10:47):
If I talk Karen Jones, the first thing come up
with size.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
If I talk to is run after the catch, all right.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
But when you get the receiver that, like Jerry Rice,
don't have identifier. Not the biggest, not the strong, not
the fastest, not anything, just well rounded in every point
of being. So now when I study this guy, I'm like,
how what's my plan to stop this guy?
Speaker 2 (11:14):
I gotta go put hands on the well.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
He's one of the best people getting off the line
of scrimmage against Pressed.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Well, the more I study that, what I tell guys,
some receivers ain't meant to be studied, Like study your
game plan that week. If I'm checking Terry, I'm not
really studying Terry. I can't gain any information from him.
I'm gonna have to come up with a plan with
somebody else that got did on him before they're successful,
like Big Play Slate. I talked to Slay all the time. Okay, Slay,
(11:41):
I'm like, who.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Gives your hell? Right now? He's like, you know, who?
Get me here?
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Terry?
Speaker 3 (11:45):
And Slay takes everybody off, he takes him out, but
he can't stop Terry.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Because Terry has no glaring identifiers.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
You have no glaring identifiers, you become hard to study,
hard to prepare for. And when Terry's playing with that
edge makes it even harder and not the fastest.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
But have you ever seen anybody kitchen from behind?
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Just like Jerry Rice? Hey, nobody kitchen from behind. So
that's what I'm saying. If you look at Terry's makeup,
he's very Jerry Rice's and everything.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
I was watching. Logan is on X by the way.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Yeah, yes, Logan is on the artist formerly known as
Twitter The ogan is on there y'all to do good.
If you really want to learn football, you wanna learn
the minutia, Yeah, follow my guy, Logan Paulses most definitely.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Logan Pause in the NFL. He's really going to break
it down of tape and he was breaking down some
stuff when it comes to Terry. And one thing that
he showed what you I thought was interesting was it
was Terry running a route, but it was a subtle,
like almost a head fake. Yeah, in the middle of
his route. Like that's something that's so some nuanced.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yes, very nuanced.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
And that's why I said, these these small things with
Terry make him big.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
That's what I mean, Like, how do you prepare for
that in the moment, because that's such a small thing
when you're talking about a million things you have to
think about.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
And you're talking about a guy that makes his best
catches could test.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
So that's telling you as a dB, he tracks the football.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
When I actually do what I was supposed to do
and I'm writing in his hip pocket, he's still gonna
come down with it.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
So that's what makes him hard to check.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
When you put all these things in the pot and
I know singular they don't taste good, but when I
put them all in the pot, it turns into gumbo.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
So when you played, was there a receiver or two
where it was just like, if this ball is in
the vicinity, he's gonna get it all over him. He's
just gonna find a way to get it. I feel
like Terry's similar in that way.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
People might not remember this player played for the Dallas
Cowboys and Tony O'Brien he played, yes, and my god,
he just liked Terry in that way.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Just like Terry in that way, frame was similar.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Could get down the field fast, can move, but test
the catches was his thing. Yeah, like he loved it.
Larry Fitzgerald another pit guy, Like, why do I keep
going back to these pit guys? By the way, would
you be shocked if I told you Pitt has more
Hall of Famous than Penn State?
Speaker 2 (14:10):
I would, Actually you shouldn't be they do. Dorel Dann Marino,
Tony Tony.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Dort said, uh me and Joe Green I think now
he went to Door Texas.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
All right, well you got did Aaron Donald go to
He's not even Hollyoad.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Darrell Reeves did go there.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Yes, I didn't realize that Larry Fitzgerald.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Yes, Pitt might not be known as, oh, this football powerhouse,
but every three or four years they have a player that's.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
The number one player in the NFL in his position.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Yeah, So Pitt gets no love, kind of like Missimms State.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
So we're talking offense. Now we've got Jerry mcran back.
So what does this do for Jade Daniels Because there's
no question Terry's wide receiver won and they developed such
a unique chemistry last year, which we saw especially at
the end of the season.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
If I'm anybody on this roster happy to see Terry
besides Jedi five, it's Deebo semis Ah.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
You're talking about finish, get opened.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Up now, Debo can be Debo.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Listen, it's going to This might be one of de
Bo's best years because of Terry. Terry gets the coverage
push to him, no matter if they double, no matter,
it's just a tension.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
And Debo will.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Benefit from debt and blossom from debt. Zach Ertz will benefit.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
I think he's going to have another grade year. He's
looked awesome. He's aging so well, and that's the thing
this was supposed to be where he's not winding down.
But he looked as good as ever last year, and
he looked awesome in camp again.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
He looked like Holly Berry. He just keeping it steady
right there, no matter what you say, Hey, Holly, you.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Seventy, No, I'm not. This dude is agent graceful. He's
another one of these guys. He he came out of
school with no indicators. He wasn't the biggest, one of
the fastest. When anything, it's hard to tell when these
guys are slowing down. It was whole a few to
tell when Jerry was slowing down. Yeah, like because he
was never the fastest. Zach Kirk was never the fastest,
(16:06):
was never the most wigging.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Because if you if you build your like Joey Gallowy
is a great example of such a burner. But when
you start to lose that speed, you lose what makes
you better.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
You locked the sports car anymore? Right, all right? Like
Terry is what's sporty, but not really sporty.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
He's your just some s five and sayes bens Okay,
it's clean, it's dependable.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
If you want to go fast and it you can
last year long time. Yeah, last year A long time.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
But I pull up beside you in a Ferrari. You
know what this cop made to do? You know what
the Sean Jackson is made to do. He's made to
get the rolling. But then I could pull up in
this suv this pr gut song. Alright, I can take
the kids in here.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Big tough, dependable like dog. Huh So I like hair
and wire receiver with the carreta. It's a good thing.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
But I think it's it's just what do you do
and when you do slow down?
Speaker 2 (17:07):
What's slowing down in your game?
Speaker 1 (17:08):
What's what's Deebo range rover. He's a little bit of
everything off road road.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
I can say it's gotta be I gotta beg to
go off road? Is he a jeep?
Speaker 1 (17:17):
That's what I'm saying, like something where you can go
off road to because he knew anything.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
I think, Debo is that because see I like when
he had a chain on, had a big box right there.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
He liked that jeep.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
When you take the whole roof off, you know what
I'm saying, take the doors off, ye big lifted.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
I can go mudding in this. I can do whatever
I want to.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
Debo is that he's the range road, like you said,
the one that you move to the edge of the
cliff to shoot the commercial with this the one.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
And you can still look clean too.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
I can still look clean that I can still when
I put everything back together on here.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
It still looks good.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Let's talk running back for a second, right, because we
don't be Robs gone, but there's still a ton of
talent in that running back room. Heckler Rodriguez and then
ill Crosskey Merritt, Like, how is this going to end
up shaking out mid season?
Speaker 2 (18:02):
I think running back by committee.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
I think let's say four hundred plus carriage this year, okay,
I think all of them will get around five fifty.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
I think they're gonna div.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
It up to a point until somebody says, this is
my backfield. Because if you look at Ekela, you got
to say age doability.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
I can't run him twenty times.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
I was gonna say, you don't want to feed him.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
I don't want to feed him. I want him on
passing occasions.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
He might be the starter, you know, coming in, but
I want to keep him right around twelve fifteen, maybe
get him to fifteen touches with three.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Passes or something.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
You want them a special teams.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
I can't do it this year. I started saying the injuries, right, Yeah,
I can't do it this year.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
There'll be more of a McNichols, a McCaffrey, Jayleen Lane,
that'll be them.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
But between him.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
McNichols, Bill, I think they got they got more speed
back there.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
They got more guys that can break a game. That's
what they want.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Don't forget about Sea Rod now. Now when they're ready
to thump it in there, there'll be Sea Rod tied
gold line short yardage. We're playing against a big front,
like I would expect to see a lot of Sea
Rod against the New York Giants with that big old
front they got dext Lawrence.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
I'm gonna run him in. I'm gonna run him in there,
all right.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
So I think it's gonna be designed by game game playing,
because against the New York Giants, were gonna need our
best pass blocking back to play most of their game.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Who is the best pass block out of them?
Speaker 3 (19:40):
Sea Rod could be could be the best, all right,
But then you gotta sprinking in Eckler because we still
got to throw it to the back because the one
way that temper down a rush like that is throw
screens and draws at them.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Well, that's Ekler's game.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
So I think they all be sprinkling in uh, different times,
different places, different teams, and different design of how we're
trying to attack the team.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
So I want to ask you before we talk about
the defense. The NFL came out with the top one
hundred players from last season and Jayden was twenty one,
twenty one. That is all right, I thought top twenty, but.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Well I wrote twenty one as a number, So that's
a great number. That's a great place to be. Let's
start there.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Uh yeah, I think that's a good spot for him
because people want to see more.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
May you know, I think the reason.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
They so hesitant with Jaden is because they jumped off
the page for C. J.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Scribb after his year, right, and he regrets the.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Lit because you keep some people keep saying that like
we might see a step back.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
No. Two different occasions.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
They went loaded up wide out, we went loaded up
in offensive line. So they wanted the Glits and Glenn.
We wanted protection. We want to bully people totally different.
We win't got better on defense, all right, Don't forget
the Texas.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Still made it to the playoffs and won a playoff guy.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
And they became they were leaning on Joe mixed by
the end of the season.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Yeah, because all three.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Yeah, So I don't look at it as Scride took
a step back. His team did because of injuries. All right,
So no, we're built totally different. And to be honest,
when the Texas took over that division coats Jacksonville week
division so weak, we're going against the Super Bowl champ, right,
(21:26):
that's who we measured against the best team in the game.
We're measured against, all right, the Cowboys for all we
say to them, they got talent, right, you know, the Giants,
whatever you want to say, they got talent. So we
was messuring up two things. And don't forget we made
it to the NFC Championship game.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
I don't think they did that lucky to make the playoffs, man.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
So so don't compare us to them. Don't compare Scride.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
And Jay Needer because our gout has the fifth element
that describe doesn't have unless they running, the ability to
break a game wide open debscribe he's a pocket pass, yes, yes,
all right, so this is different, Like if all breaks
down Jedi five. We started playing mind tricks on you
(22:15):
uh on the defense like nothing hurts us more jinks.
Shut you down on first down, shut you down on
third down, call the right play on I mean shut
you down on take it down. Call the right play
on third down. We got all the receivers checked and
then the quarterback run for eleven yard. We are the
aras just taken out of us.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
And also, this is a team that loves to be
aggressive on fourth down. So instead of best for it
that so instead of being like it's three and out
with this team, it's it's torn out.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
It's four and out with this X factor.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Like with this X factor, And you gotta realize when
you play a running quarterback, great defensive coordinators don't play
man the man. Jamee started to see that down the
last year. He was like, they refuse to play the
sneaking play man man. But every time they did, he
takes out running because he knows in the back of
his head, if I see that.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
dB last name, I'm running right behind him. Yep. That'll
break you, all right.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
So now you can only play cover three, cover two,
cover four, in zone blitz. That's your options and people
gonna start to see that more and more if they
play him and I can't afford to play him man
the man, and every time you do, he breaks your back.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
So let's talk about defense now, because you're talking about
DB's trying.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
To guard Jayden.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
I will say this commander secondary has been completely remade
from last year. This is gonna be a real strength.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
It reminds me of the TSA I was a part of.
You know, my group. We were very deep and we
took over games. We didn't have this D line secondary.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Yeah, but yeah, we didn't have that pass us so
we had to cover even longer and we just knew
how to be in sync with each other.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
We got all the ingredients what you need.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Right.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Will Harris going to douce himself to this fan base
and y'all are gonna love him.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
I have watched Will Harris and Zach Erz go at
it like we was in Rome at the Coliseum.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
They have been going at it back and forth.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
For it to be a juggernaut fight, both people gotta
be punching in taking licks. Y'all gonna love him, Okay,
Quinn Marten Is it's looking like the next coming of
Ed read it just slowed down to him.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
He's ready to be a pro bowler. Uh, it's his time,
his time.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
It feels like his time, Marsha and Lattimore is healthy,
smiling and having fun again.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
All right, he gonna be back on his game. Outside corner.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Mike Sandrich still showed y'all that I'm coming and I'm
gonna be one of them dogs. Now he's at his
natural comfortability at Nickel perfect. Then you add Trey Aines
six to one and a half, six y two, long,
aggressive love competition, not scared to press. Then you got
(24:56):
Jonathan Jones, noing binogamy Tyler On.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Uh, Jeremy Rees is playing safety at a high level.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
He's finally gonna get some runn Thank you.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
This is a This defensive backfield is a total three
sixty from what we started the season off last year,
total three sixty.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
So now you got the secondary set and you got
the vets there at linebacker, and this is another streak.
I know they wont a little more depth there, but
certainly when you talk about the starting three, yeah, I
mean it's about as good as gats two.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Yellow jackets in a Tasmanian devil. There you go, two
yellow jackets in a taz many we.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Talked about guys who are still like Bobby Wagner is
a perfect example of where you keep thinking, Okay, at
some point he's gonna slow down and we haven't seen it.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
And Bobby was never the fastest, never the biggest, never
scro always run the football. They always run the football,
all right. Then you got Von Miller. What do I
have to say about budd and Miller? Right, one of
the best pass rushers of all time. Then you got
Frankie lou Vu fan fai Rick just let him look
if it's some football being played, letting them a fold loose,
(26:05):
Let lou Vu loose.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
That changed the defense when you change the middle of it.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Yeah, all the best defenses I have ever seen come
with the middle of stacked. Think about that Baltimore defense, Jinks,
Ray Lewis, Jamie.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Sharp, all them dudes they had, like like what about
Nasty Hey.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
What about Tampa Bay with Derrick Brooks up semin Like,
the middle has to be good.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
If you ain't got good linebackers, you ain't got a chance.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
All great defenses come with great linebackers, right, we got those.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
So the middle of this sandwich. He got more than
peanut butter and jelly.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
And so what are your concerns defensively?
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Yeah? Uh, just just repetition. Yeah, repetition.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
That's what they need together because you got some new
pieces there. Yeah, that hasn't played together, not in real football.
So how fast can they get to the point where
they understand how they're built? Because we went got size
with Ken Law and the rest of these guys. We're
built to win on first down against the run. So
(27:14):
we can have you in the third and loan and
now we can rush the passer with speed, Von Miller
pushing a hole from Vig the run pain John Newton
that he'll pass what specially the big year. So it's
just so many guys in their rotation. Man, I put
it like this, I can promise this the defense will
(27:35):
be better than last year.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
On some level.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
I feel like they have to know they are they are.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
And if your defense is better than mean, even your
special teams get better. The most of the defensive player
play specially let's bring.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
It in and now, oh I know, and it's checking
out the very latest news on am I right, Taylor?
Speaker 5 (27:54):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Lord, I'm about like oh yeah, oh yes, emails since
you hate lists, has decided that we're gonna do a list.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
How many lists in your life have actually been correct?
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (28:14):
Oh, you mean like like is in like sports segments.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
Sports, uh, music, actors, movies.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
They're never right because it's always somebody's opinion.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
They're always suggested like this is how this person music.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
Like even when I go to Royden Tomatoes because I'm
a big movie guy.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Oh yeah, I go there all the time and they like.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
This movie stinks, and I'm like, it doesn't because that's
in the eye of the beholder.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Like you say, it's simple, but something like.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
I remember, okay, I'm going to Ryding Tomato and they
like Napoleon Dynamic stinks and it.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Turned out to be a cold class To this day,
how many times have we seen this happen with him?
And they stinking lists?
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Every time I look up it's a list and somebody
go on with be mad because somebody gonna be either
downgraded upgraded that shouldn't be because they was hot a
month ago. Don't make them hot right now because you
think this song is better than this song.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
It's in the ear of the beholder. Yes, all I'm saying,
all lists are wrong.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
To say is he does not like lists.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Yeah, this is subjective, but this is not like a ranking.
It's it's more so of a list of you know
how you make a list of goals. Sure, athletes set goals.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Goals I always did.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
We'll think about it in that way, all right, we'll reframe. Okay,
So first, AOL will be a player specific goal for
the season. So if each of you create could create
a goal for someone.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
I want to see Luke McCaffrey step up and be
a part of the receiver depth that they drafted him
to be. Okay, and I think he can. We saw
a little bit of of it in the final game
of the preseason. He still needs to take a step
or two and create separation. That's been this big problem.
But certainly you love our top three. You gotta get
(30:07):
no Brown healthy. But I'd love to see Luke step
up and become a bigger part of the offense.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Luke, all right, I would.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Double down and say, same draft class Johnny Newton. Okay,
I want to see Johnny Newton of college now.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
That he had healthy feet.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Baby, they got you know, two feet service, so he's
supposed to be there.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
And I know what this guy capable of. And if
we get.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
Five, six, seven sacks from him, this defense could be
a top ten defense because now you've got a rotation
of like five d tackles in there, and if they
all getting it like that, they're gonna be something special.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
So Johnny Jesne Newton, all right.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
They're great pecks. Okay, next one, position groups. So it
could be maybe it's like physicality or communication or I
don't know, do you.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Want me to go first? All right, position group? I
choose those wild boars that offensive line. I want to
see those guys.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Yeah. One thing, they haven't our practiced together yet.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
All Right, I'm talking about Sam Cot, I'm talking about Cunningly,
talking about Beattish, talking about Coleman, talking about what I'm
talking about Larry mc tunsel. So when these guys jail,
you want to talk about a boy band, The fat
Boys back my.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Ye.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
I think I told you I heard fat boys in
the Wow.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Not a year or so ago. I was like, what's
going on?
Speaker 1 (31:40):
I was like those fat boys? He was like yeah,
And I was like, I was like, all right, all right, really,
because listen, when you hear fat boys like you all
did not age well, because it's a gimmick.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Yes, gimmicks never aged.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Well, it's true who let them dogs out at the time?
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Then any way, any time it's a gimmick, it never ages. Well,
all right.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
We were talking to our DJ for our wedding and
he's like, do you have any suggestions?
Speaker 2 (32:11):
You know, I could DJ you with Oh.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
My God, and I can marry you know, I'm authorized
to marry people in Virginia.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Are you yeah or.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Dained or The first thing we told her he is,
no macharina. I don't want to hear from. Where are
you coming from? Where do you go? Where are you
coming from? I was like, no, none of that nonsense.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
I want more R and B, don't you I want?
Speaker 1 (32:32):
I want to Yeah, I want.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Some R and B.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
Of course there's gonna be some Tantor Swift's fun, you know,
But I mean I just want good music, like timeless music.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
You have to bring after guy that writes no song.
He just sings everybody a song better than them. That's
Luther vandroslu. You got to you got to bring out
Luther that here.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Now you know what I'm saying. You gotta have that
dance with the father when she danced like that. Oh
that you got to bring out Luther. Yes.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Position, Oh, defensive line. I'm gonna go defensive line because
I think that these guys. Look, they struggle last year
stopping the run, right, But now we know what the
dealers for this season, which is we got some big
bodies in there. Javon Kinlot is the biggest piece. You got,
Johnny Newton healthy. We're gonna rotate those guys in an
and were opposing offenses down late in the game. That's
(33:22):
the plan. That was an issue last year as well.
So let's strengthen up against the run and be tough,
to be tougher to.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Beat in the fourth quar We're gonna make you one dimensional.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Yes, we want to take the run away and force
your quarterback to beat us.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
That ain't gonna wear us, do that.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
Yeah, try to get back on track. All right, good,
you're good.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Last goal of the U for last goal? Sorry, wow words.
We'll have Fred on offense, Janks on defense. What's a
goal for the entire side of the ball. So yeah,
or you could be defense if you prefer.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
All right, the goal for the offense is to dictate games.
When I say dictate games, dominate on third down. Anytime
we on fourth down, exten drives. Drive your defensive coordinator
Looney Tombs, because right when you think you stopping something,
we got something else for you. I think as good
(34:18):
as Cliff Kingsbury was last year, he was still had
his hands behind his back officer line weren't where he
wanted to be. So on some passing plays we had
to chip with the tight end, a leader back in
the block to help block.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
We won't have to do that. We're gonna have five
men in the rap this year.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
They're gonna make JD five that much dangerous. And if
all it fails, brother Jedi, it's gonna take it into
his own hands, and that's just gonna make us more dangerous.
So dictate to dictate and make sure that we kind
of lure them to where we want them to be.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
On offense, I'm gonna say nothing's secondary eat. And what
I mean by that is it bounces off for what
I was talking previously, which is if that defensive line
shows up even just a little bit. Yeah, I mean
you know how it is when you were a corner,
If the defensive line of the backers were doing their jobs, yes,
then all the that split second makes all the difference.
And when do you think of the talent that we
have in this secondary. Yeah, all it takes is some
(35:15):
sort of marginal improvement and that makes it so much
easier for the secondary to make place.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
And going back to the offensive side, play with the
league so the defense can eat.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
So be aggressive.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
And now now the d n'sa pin their ears back.
They're getting past rush moo because the team is down fourteen.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Yeah, that's when that defense eats. You get me jacked
up now, I'm just saying, Luke de Vandra, Oh never
too much. This was the song, Yeah, all right, the
only one.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Well, Jenks if you want to hit ads and then
we can go to Voicemith.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Sorry man, Okay, guys, let's talk about See Gig for
a second. We do love our people at Sea Gig

has belonged to See.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Geek and it belonged to Northwest Stadium. We had some
X coming Northwest State, Kendrick Lamar, Jilly Roll, who was
with Jilly Roll?
Speaker 5 (36:28):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Oh it was?
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Was it Posty post Malone? Yeah? Oh, we've we've had.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Since he was there with what was she there with?
Kenned What would it take for you to put on
a cowboy hat?
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Oh? I already do it.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
I started to say, there's a new sheriff in town. Yeah,
sheriff Frederick Smooth.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Listen, Frederick rhetoric list I wear cowboy hat. I'm fine.
I'm from Mississippi.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
I started saying, you can crush.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
That easy listen. Don't get me the line dancing, I
get it. Don't get me. I got the Bill Bogey
and anything. Don't make me do it, don't make don't
make me revert back.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
And I mean Colorado could be country.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
Yeah, I don't know. You probably never rode a horse before.
Oh oh no, you have.
Speaker 6 (37:12):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
I took lessons as a kid and then my aunt
has horses, so I boogie. I wouldn't say that, but okay,
first off, didn't mean to pivot so quickly. We had
to quick change and show plans. But okay, be ready
for voicemails. Yeah all right, but yes I have I
have written a horse.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
What about you? Yes? Yes, yes, so all three of
us horse radders.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Oh yeah, maybe that could be a fun get loud
segment where we all go, oh.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
It's been a minute, I'm reading Horse. I'll be fun though, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
That could be kind of fun.
Speaker 7 (37:42):
Yeah, hey, guys, I've been listening for a while. I
never thought to call in, but man, something happened on
like I think it was the last episode a couple
of weeks ago where Smooth was talking about getting old.
You'll were talking about getting old and and what he said, Man,
(38:05):
y'all kind of did a segue before he could really
explain it. And it's just been bothering me. But Smooth
has started.
Speaker 6 (38:13):
To say, like, yeah, he knew, like I know I'm getting.
Speaker 7 (38:16):
Old because I'm drinking warm milk at night now and
then y'all just skipped over that. But I gotta know
what that's about. Man, Why is drinking warm milk like
a baby.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
Listen.
Speaker 7 (38:34):
Yeah, sorry, that's I don't know if it's worthy of
being answered on the show, but it's been driving me
crazy since I heard it, and I just gotta know
why Smooth's drinking warm milk at nights.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
You guys, appreciate you, by the way, keeping him up
at night. He's like tossing the turn.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Yeah, let me drinking milk.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Let me tell you it's a cop of thing. Has
signaled to me that I'm getting old, all right. About
three weeks ago, I'm walking shopping, okay, and I'm walking
past the Skelter store okay, with.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Old the other old people in there.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
And as I look into the store, I'm looking, you know,
all sketched shoes are ugly right back, but they comfortable.
And see, once you get to a point where you're
starting to buy your shoes for comfortability because your feet hurt,
you're old, all right. Yeah. My son was like, what
are you doing, pops? Are you looking in a sketch store?
I was like no, so I tried to turn quick.
(39:34):
My son was like, oh, don't you dare stoop that low,
And in the back of my head.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
I was like, I need some sketches, and I was like,
it's the old people stuff that sketches plus warm milk
equal over the hill.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Like it's over the hill now I have stopped eating cereal.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
Okay, that usually gave me my milk intake, but now
you just need it for your bones. They're getting softer.
I don't know warm. I think that's what I don't
it's the milk and stuff because it's not it's like,
let me warm up this so I could sleep. Listen.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
I don't know what's happening to people. I don't know
what I don't know. I guess when you get older,
you get these urgies that you didn't have before.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
And I don't know why.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
The milk is warm drinks, but you got to have
a warm sometime. Like I tell my kid, bring me
some milk, dam you want.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Me to warm it?
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Me put in the pot for you on the stove.
Speaker 6 (40:31):
Dad.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
I heard. I heard my son the other day. Yeah,
my daddy drinking warm milk. O. He ain't got long.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
You don't make me feel old because like I look
at my friends like I still see you, like I mean,
you know, it's like I'm like, it's smooth you know,
like look at my friends. At a friend of mine one.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Day, go, you know, we're forty. Were where were forties?
Speaker 1 (40:54):
Like?
Speaker 2 (40:54):
When are forties jinks?
Speaker 1 (40:55):
I was like, oh, yeah, I guess so. But I
always look at people like I've always known them, right, No,
And so it just so like when I see like
a celebrity or something like hey, I might his tea
for car shield, I'm like, what you know, I'm like,
it's sixty.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
That's what I mean.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
Listen, it's nothing else that to age you quicker than
seeing somebody that was young when you was young that's
looking old now. Like I got a homeboy close friend,
I told him he got Lebron's disease because he ain't.
Never looked young when we was old. I mean when
were young, yeah, had an old face, and now I
told him, m you like the crip keeper yo old
a right. So if we the same age, maybe I'm
(41:35):
just still looking young. But some that clock, like you said,
the closer you get the fifty, the less you care.
That's why I want to do a show with like
her seventy year olds, because they'll say anything. I love them.
They ain't holding nothing back. So all I'm saying is
the warm milk is a thing?
Speaker 1 (41:53):
It's like we talked to Doc. I'm like, buckle up, young,
because Doc's gonna tell it like it is what in
his e He's gonna say it, no restraint.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
Well, next were ready for our next voicemail. Also, we'll
say we got so many voicemails this week. We had
to shift some voicemails and emails to next week, so
hear them next week.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
Yeah, it's with it.
Speaker 8 (42:20):
We got it there down with Terry, they will allow
the other way I received.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Look to their right position.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
That's the position.
Speaker 9 (42:34):
Who do you think when the merge.
Speaker 8 (42:38):
Between Jayla and Luke McCaffrey, Now then we re signed
or Game of cornade an extension on this Contract's.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Go Commander Commanders.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
It's something about this Jaalen Lane kid.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
I think that's the way to go.
Speaker 3 (42:56):
And I always respect he was that had sninking quarterbacks
in college because you never got to show your skill
set truly. Yeah, and this guy played, never say the word,
he just kept playing. Yeah, he knew his quarterback couldn't
hit a target if it was the size of the
stroke target right, seriously, but he just kept on playing.
(43:19):
I think he between returns, and between the chances he
do get to play, I think.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
He's going to be the one that really sticks out.
Speaker 1 (43:28):
I think there's a chance too because he's a different
type of receiver like Terry does it all. Yeah right,
Noel Brown gives you size and linked Debo is sure
he can carry the ball yards out of the catch,
ye ja Yeah. And then you have Jayalen Lynn, who's
just a speed guy.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
So you can open up the field in different ways
with guys who have different skills set.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Yes, yeah, so I would say Jaylen Lange, but I'm
pulling for Luke. Yeah, pulling for Luke like I want
Luke to develop that niche he reminds me.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
I want him to be more like a Ricky.
Speaker 1 (43:56):
Pro whoa okay took back without Yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
You gotta be a real guy to know Ricky Pro.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
And maybe Jaylen Lane will be a Vasycahima or somebody
for us.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Okay, I'm big and I'm big enough.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
Hey, my second himmer was a good boy and avies
into my notion of football athletes no matter which.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
Scro you're I got chills because randomly because he was
a special team's witches and I was on YouTube, but
I don't know how. Like I'm telling you, our phones
are listening because I was like, I remember him, he
could play.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
Yeah, no, listen.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
He is one of these forgotten about guys like they
started the third down back in special teams maybe b Mitch, Dave, Meggett, Vasicahma,
Eric Metcalfe. It was the It was the years of
these guys, like everybody had one.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
Everybody had one on their team.
Speaker 4 (44:53):
That's a great call, all right, two more voice smails
to get through, all right, Booz.
Speaker 9 (45:03):
Geek and Kayla and Chimbowie traveling Jay. Look, we all
know the preseasons suck, but that's okay.
Speaker 6 (45:13):
I think back in the day, if I can.
Speaker 9 (45:14):
Remember correctly, Joe Gibbs record probably wasn't that great either,
But that doesn't matter either God amongst washing the people.
So here's what I want to do in the next
couple of weeks before actual football starts. I want to
get to know more about the Get Loud people, the
podcast people, Michael, Mike, Mickey talk Timmy, what's the worst
(45:41):
interview you've ever had on air? And you know you're
a journalist, obviously, Who, what, when, where and why? I'm
thinking it's one oh one, So tell me who went, when, where, why,
and only my names we want to know and then
that lady for that.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
All right, First you should know Kayla is an X athlete.
Now you do know something about her traveling jay. Kayla
is an X treck athlete. So you got athletes sitting
here right a JINX.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
All right.
Speaker 1 (46:21):
So one of the craziest interviews I've ever done was
with Ricky Williams. All Right, So everyone knows I went
to Texas, but I also worked in Austin for six
years and I covered the team. And sometimes that is
a blessing. Sometimes that's a curse because you think you
know an athlete, yeah, and then you don't until you
see to see where he talked to him. And also
(46:41):
now Ricky has come around, he's he's an adult. He
was a kid at the time.
Speaker 3 (46:46):
But Ricky also have been different, Like Ricky is not
who you he's not. He's different, he's not general just
they're gonna do they're going football player.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
Now he's much more than that.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
He didn't really like the media. He didn't really take
the media right. He did not like it. And so
his senior year and I was there when he won
the Heighstman Trophy.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
They beat us in the combo year.
Speaker 1 (47:06):
Yes, he did the Heisman post.
Speaker 2 (47:07):
It was great.
Speaker 1 (47:09):
So before the season, Ricky barely practiced like they treated
him with kid gloves, like they might work out all
practice long. Ricky might take two or three carries and
then he would just sit. I'll just to himself.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (47:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (47:24):
So Ricky went to high school in San Diego, came
to Austin, which was crazy that it came. But his
senior year, his mother, Sandy, moved to Austin and she
was helping the freshman move into the dorms. And so
this is an easy story to do, right, Hey, Ricky,
it's about your mom. She's here, she's supporting you, she's
helping the freshman move in. This is great, isn't it
(47:45):
so easy?
Speaker 2 (47:46):
Story?
Speaker 1 (47:47):
So Ricky comes over with the sports information director, and
of course these guys are very protective of the athletes.
I've been at practice. Ricky has barely practiced. Yeah, And
so Ricky is sitting next to me. He's going like
he's been working out for two hours. I'm just standing
there like, whenever Ricky wants to stand up, we'll do
(48:10):
so Finally, Ricky stands up.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
All right.
Speaker 1 (48:13):
I was like, so, Ricky, your mom's here. She's helping
the freshman move in. This is pretty cool that mom's
around for your Heisman Trophy campaign. He goes, I guess
it's easy for us. She lives here now. Yeah, yeah,
I said, And also, how cool is it that you
(48:34):
see her helping your teammates move in because you were
at one time a freshman. You know, it's a transition,
and she's helping them.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
I mean, she's here.
Speaker 1 (48:42):
So I'm like, so I'm just talking. I'm like, I'm like,
and because you're trying to try to softball questions, who
can't say nice things about mo?
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Easy?
Speaker 1 (48:58):
So finally, I you know, I'm just scrammed on. And
I'm a kid myself. This was probably my third or
fourth year in the business. I'm a reporter. I'm still
figuring it out. And I said, and also, you know,
it's a big year for you. It's your Heightsman Trophy campaign.
You're having a ton of attention like this interview, and
it's it's got to be nice to have someone to
lean on. And Ricky pauses and goes on, never because
(49:18):
I'm not gonna lie, I don't care, and the sports
information goes Ricky, it's your mother. And that's when I
was like, well, it wasn't great. It wasn't great.
Speaker 3 (49:31):
He asked me about I guess my interviews, like when
I'm being interviewed. Yeah, I guess some of them. I
guess one of the most. It wasn't awkward at all
because I took him serious. When I first got here
as a rookie, I had probably.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Been here, like just at the training camp. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
So we get back here to the park and he
watched this thirteen year old okay Grant posting, Oh okay,
you know Grant. It was a child Phoenix prodigy. He
was a prodigy, right, So he would go back and
forth to the Today Show, I mean, go up and
do Tonight's show, and he would do all this stuff
(50:10):
because he had a photographic memory and he was just
sport genius. So this kid walks in and put this
mic in my face and start calling.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Out my statue all American. You know, miss a mistake. Fred,
What do you think you're going to bring to this teen?
Speaker 3 (50:25):
So at first I started giggling, yeah, because I'm like,
is he a grown a grown child or something like
what's going on here? So then I continue to do
the interview and then we wrap up the interview and.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
Not like, kid, how old are you? He like, I'm thirteen.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
It's crazy, And I'm like, how long have you been
doing this? He like since I was ten? I like,
I should call your parents on the workforce on like
and because I was, I was wild by this. He
still has that memory to the stay at till this,
like he can remember everything like that, just Grant. So
when I first met Grant, you know, of course, some
(51:04):
of these other grown up at the least went kind
of take him seriously, and I just took him serious
because I was like, if he ain't good enough to
do what he's doing, now, I got to take him seriously. Yeah,
and now he's in the sports world and been in
the sports world for almost twenty five years.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
Yeah, I tell you what very quickly, I'll tell you
the biggest mistake I've seen made one of the biggest mistakes.
And you ever see someone ask a question and you're like.
Speaker 2 (51:30):
Oh, oh, oh, it's so rome course person. So I
don't even remember. Bill A.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
Meade used to be goaltender for DC.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
Yeah. Bill A.
Speaker 1 (51:39):
Meade was very intense and a big dude, right. He
was not to be trifled with. And so I went
out with I used to be beat reporter for DCU
noted back in the day when they played RFK was
there with an intern and she was asking a question,
which of course we encourage him to do, and so
United had lost a tough game. She because you never
want to suggest that an athlete wasn't trying.
Speaker 2 (52:02):
Oh, don't ever do that.
Speaker 1 (52:03):
And I remember I'm standing there and she says, Bill,
was this just an issue you guys just not trying
very hard or not putting.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
Forth your best effort. Don't ever do that.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
And I like, I remember, just like fire, and I
was like, let me turn my head. I was like,
this is not going to be good. And he glares
for a couple of seconds and goes, that's a stupid
fing question y and dropped the f bom and just
glared and I was like, this dude was like ready
to throw down and a dead silence and I was like, oh,
(52:33):
I could see that one coming.
Speaker 3 (52:35):
I had somebody to do that in the eye locker
room with Big day L Garden. Oh really, yeah, Like
what happened out there y'all. Guys are like, y'all wasn't
even putting fourth inflow.
Speaker 10 (52:46):
For for free, that's for free. Don't ever, don't ever
say what we ain't doing. Get him out of here, like,
get him out of the locker room, get him out
right now. And I was like, you know what, I
think you need to leave.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
If you notice he's six six three and thirty pounds
nothing but muscle.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
He'd been in my house for two weeks. All right,
I can't even get him out of it. You were terrified. Yeah,
I couldn't.
Speaker 3 (53:09):
I couldn't deal for heal Get out of here, man, anyway,
you can't like, I know what you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
Yeah, that's you do not do that.
Speaker 4 (53:17):
Ready for our last voicemail, I know so many voicemails,
or we could save it to next week.
Speaker 2 (53:23):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (53:23):
First of all, it's from Jamie from Mechanicsville, and I'll
start off because I had to cut some of it.
But first of all, he commented on your geek out
last week, maybe this will be our geek out, that
this will be our geek out this week because the
show we only have so.
Speaker 5 (53:36):
Much time left.
Speaker 4 (53:38):
But on the note of cheetahs, did you know that
lots of like labs will be kept in cheetah enclosures
to calm them down, because cheetahs are like skittish and
they don't attack the dogs when they're in the cage,
but when they have to take the dogs out for
one part of it, which is feeding. Do you know
(53:59):
why that is?
Speaker 3 (54:00):
Because like any animal, the dog is going to try
to share the food with the cat, and the cat
and the cheetah is not gonna allow that to happen.
Speaker 4 (54:08):
You know what, the dogs will actually eat the food
and the cheetahs won't get anything.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
And so they're so timid.
Speaker 4 (54:14):
Yeah, isn't that so interesting?
Speaker 3 (54:15):
But because cheetahs are totally domesticated cats almost like this
is what I think the geno of the domesticated kit
comes from the cheetah. The cheetahs are not confrontational. They
haven't attacked any humans. Matter of fact, when they smell humans,
they usually go to the opposite direction.
Speaker 2 (54:32):
So they're timid. It's all I do is.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
But if somebody was in the woods and saw a cheetah,
they would run, Yes, But guess what, a bob can't
attack you before a cheetah with Oh wow, that's a
good one.
Speaker 4 (54:44):
Ye'd one, So now he has the remainder of his voicemail.
Oh sorry, give me a second, it's.
Speaker 2 (54:53):
Not working podcast, and.
Speaker 5 (55:02):
The geek out portion of the podcast.
Speaker 6 (55:04):
Been telling everybody what a smell of fresh cut grass means.
Speaker 5 (55:08):
We'll packs travel up thirty miles a day, especially on
the hunt.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
They don't have a single file line.
Speaker 5 (55:14):
They are split up into five groups.
Speaker 6 (55:18):
The first group is made.
Speaker 5 (55:19):
Up of the older, weaker, or.
Speaker 6 (55:22):
Maybe injured wolves.
Speaker 5 (55:25):
Now these are they may be large, they're formidable.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
If they were older or weaker.
Speaker 5 (55:31):
Or sicker, and their role in a single file pack
is to forge the pass so that now all the
other walls behind them, the other groups have a path
to go through. All the other groups can move as
fast as that first group is moving, so they're setting
the pace pace for the entire pack. But their main
purpose is to be the first.
Speaker 6 (55:50):
Line of defense for any type of frontal attack. So
they are older, they may.
Speaker 5 (55:54):
Be very formidable and break. So that's the first group.
Second group are your big bad mofo. They are are big, strong, tough,
You're they're in their prime, never.
Speaker 6 (56:05):
To fight anybody. So that's your second group, your.
Speaker 5 (56:07):
Middle group of the pack, or third group is your
women and children, because that middle pack is the future
of the pack. So the women and children are they're
they're the future. And then your fourth group is the
other fifty percent of those big bad mofos. They're your
other big bad strong.
Speaker 6 (56:26):
Nobody messed with.
Speaker 5 (56:27):
So the future group is packed between those two fifty
per groups of the big bad mofos.
Speaker 6 (56:33):
And then your last group is not really a group
at all. That fifth group is actually the alpha, and
the Alpha is back there. He can now scan over
the entire pack and see everything. You can see everything
that's in front of me and scan the entire territory.
And he can also be the first line of defense
for any attack.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
Coming from the pop.
Speaker 6 (56:54):
I want you guys to pick one player on offense
and one player on defense that would fit into each
one of those.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
So, oh gosh, we might have to just pick one
player from the team because.
Speaker 3 (57:06):
I'm gonna pick the Alpha group. I'm gonna pick the
guys that's taking.
Speaker 2 (57:10):
Up the rear. Okay, all right, they've been.
Speaker 3 (57:12):
There, they've done that, and they scanning everybody making sure
everybody do their job. Bum Miller, Apha Wolf, Bobby Wagner,
Yellow jacket, alpha wolf. These are the wolves. These are
the these are the the guys that bring up the
rear right there. I'm gonna put those guys in the group,
and I'm gonna put these two alpha wolves in there,
and they're just like my six pack of beer.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
They come in packs.
Speaker 1 (57:37):
I'll give you one more alpha, yeah, Lammie Tunsel.
Speaker 3 (57:39):
Yes, big dog, big dog, most death, go ahead and
try yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (57:44):
Okay. So we have the alpha two, two big bad mofos,
somebody who's the future and somebody who's.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
Like a future jd F.
Speaker 1 (57:55):
Protect them at all costs potactic. When we got the
alpha dog nurturer.
Speaker 3 (58:00):
All right, don't take the female connotation out of it. Nurturer, yeah, future,
that means that that nurturing the older.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
Wiley Oh to Connolly, Okay.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
Yes, Wiley to Connolly, I don't like that, right, I
like it.
Speaker 3 (58:16):
I like it, And thank you for interjecting and taking
my geek out.
Speaker 2 (58:20):
I'm gonna talk about it next week.
Speaker 1 (58:22):
Anna, we're gonna finish this up. We're gonna wrap it up.
Speaker 4 (58:24):
Yes, I think we're just gonna wrap it up. We
can save the contents the.
Speaker 1 (58:27):
Stuffy little some for next week. Yeah, yeah, that's gonna do.
For the Get Loud Podcast, do not forget Live Duffy,
