Dr. Reynolds unpacks the contentious question of whether British Settlement led to a genocide being inflicted upon Aboriginal Australians. Having recently dug into vast collection of primary resources to write his book, ‘What a Capital Idea: Australia 1770-1901’, Dr. Reynolds draws upon these records to discuss how the British viewed and treated the Aborigines, what Aboriginal culture was like pre-Settlement and whether the Frontier Wars actually happened.
Dr. Reynolds also digs deep into Terra Nullius, the Mabo decision, the relationship between Governor Arthur Phillip and Bennelong and the impacts of disease, technology and displacement had on the Aboriginal people.
