our service.
And I'm not gonna hold out onyou guys.
You guys have been asking andasking, and asking and asking
when are we gonna get anothercampus pastor?
When are we gonna get anothercampus pastor?
When are we gonna?
I'm almost starting to feellike y'all don't want a pastor,

(01:05):
y'all just want campus pastor.
But I told you that I was gonnatake my time, I was gonna let
the Lord lead me and that whenGod showed us the right guy,
then we would bring him in.
And I believe that God has donethat and he comes to us by way

(01:25):
of New York, all the way fromthe state of New York, and we've
been talking for I don't know, five or six months now, and I
believe that this is God's manfor this campus.
He will come in as an associatepastor with the intention of

(01:47):
him becoming our campus pastor, and so I'd like to introduce to
you, uh, pastor Tim straight.
Come on, bro, thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
I appreciate it, thank you.
Uh.
The pastor may said I'm pastorTim straight, I'm from New York
and, uh, I said it all weekendwith just about everybody that
I've met.
We are so excited to become apart of the community church
family.
Uh, my wife and my threedaughters, we have just been
waiting and waiting and waitingand we're looking forward to

(02:34):
coming down and being a part ofwhat's happening here at
community.
And Kendra told me I have twominutes so I'm keeping an eye on
it and there's a hook that'scoming if I don't, if I don't
get done just real quick aboutwho I am.
I've been in ministry in NewYork and some other parts of
this the country for the last 20years and my wife and I have a

(02:59):
heart for people and we have aheart for people to know who
Jesus is and to see livesimpacted by the power of the
gospel.
And, like pastor Nate said,we've been talking since August
and getting to know him and hisheart his heart for community as
a whole, his heart for you asindividuals and his heart for

(03:20):
his community, both here on thenorth shore, in the surrounding
areas is really something thatreally spoke to me.
So, as we prayed and we soughtafter God to say hey, are you
sure you want to move a familyof five from New York to
Covington, louisiana?
Uh, the answer was yes and itwas because we have a very

(03:41):
similar heart for people and wehave felt so welcome pretty much
from our first conversation, through our visits and our time
here already, and we're just soexcited to be a part of
community church in the very, very near future and we're
looking forward to serving andministering with pastor Nate and

(04:02):
the rest of the campus pastorsin the, the community, the
community way.
So I don't want to run out oftime, but I think that's it,
don't?

Speaker 1 (04:11):
worry about you can take all my time bro no, I've
gotten to know pastor Tim.
I've gotten to know his heartand he has a heart for God's
people.
He has a heart for lost people.
He is in school right now, getting his master's degree in

(04:35):
urban ministries in urbanministries and he is serving
currently as an associate pastorand youth and kids.
He's a servant and that's whatimpressed me most about him, and
he loves people.
So I'm looking forward toworking with your brother.
It's good getting to know you.

(04:55):
He'll be hanging out in thefoyer after the service.
Make sure you go up and tellhim hello and then the wife and
kids are gonna be down.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
January 28th.
We should be in the area.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
January the 28th and he'll officially begin as
associate pastor here atCommunity Church on February the
1st.
Amen, amen, thank you.
Bless you, bro, thank you, thank you, amen, excited about
what God is doing at our church.
Amen, amen.

(05:28):
I'm gonna pray with me, father.
We love you and thank you forwho you are.
Bless now our time and yourword.
Speak to us, say what you wannasay.
It's in Jesus' name that wepray, amen.
So I got a question for you howmany of you believe that God
wants to do some amazing thingsin your life this year?

(05:51):
Come on, show me your hands.
Amen, amen, good, good, good.
How many of you believe thatGod wants to do some amazing
things in our church this year?
Come on, show me your hands, good, good, he's already done
some amazing things.
Would you agree with me there?
Amen, amen.
I was going over what God didin our church last year with the

(06:15):
Serves team on yesterday and Iwas just reminded all over again
how faithful the Lord has beento us as a church and how he's
already moving, but I believethat we hadn't seen anything yet
.
I believe that God wants to dosome things, both in our church

(06:41):
and in our minds, that just blowin our lives, that just blows
our minds.
In the book of Joshua, the Biblerecords that, after centuries
of waiting, god's people werefinally ready to go in and
inhabit the territory that hehad promised their ancestor

(07:03):
Abraham.
And as they're getting ready togo on the conquest that was
necessary to possess the land, they're there and they're
sitting at the edge of theJordan River.
And if you know anything aboutthe Jordan River, most of the
times when we think of rivers inthe Bible we think of calm,
peaceful streams.

(07:24):
But the Jordan River, at thetime where they were going
across, was actually prettyrough.
It was tumultuous.
It was at flood stage, theBible tells us, and so they were
not about to do any small thing.
Scholars believe that themiracle that happened at the
Jordan River was just as majorand significant as Moses and the

(07:47):
children of Israel walkingacross the Red Sea on dry land.
This river was major, it was ahuge thing.
It was at flood stage, and sowhen God tells them to get up
and go across the Jordan Riverand inhabit the land, first of
all going across the JordanRiver, it wasn't like God was

(08:08):
just asking them to jump theditch.
He was.
It would be akin to God tellingsome of us hey, listen,
community church, you're rightnow on the, you're right now
standing in downtown New Orleansand the Promised Land is on the

(08:31):
West Bank.
I want you out across theMississippi.
Amen.
See how some of y'all lookingright now.
That's probably how some of thechildren of Israel were looking
.
Watch this, and this is what Godtells them.
This is what Joshua told thepeople when they're about to get
ready to do this, joshua toldthe people come on, read this

(08:51):
with me.
Consecrate yourselves Fortomorrow.
The Lord will do All.
Right Now.
This time, I want you to readit with me again and I want you
to read it like I'm gonna letyou out of here in time to watch
the saints, if you read it loudenough.

(09:13):
Come on, joshua.
Three and five.
Joshua's told the peopleConsecrate yourselves For
tomorrow.
The Lord will do.
Listen, jimmy, we want to seeGod do amazing things.
Amen.
I want to see God do amazingthings in my own life.
Here's what you got to knowthat anytime God gets ready to

(09:39):
do something amazing in ourlives, what he calls for is
consecration.
Anytime he gets ready to doamazing things in our lives,
what he calls for isconsecration.
Notice what God tells hispeople to do in preparation for

(10:02):
it.
He says Consecrate yourselves.
Watch this.
God says your role is toConsecrate yourselves.
My role is to make the amazingthings happen.
You know, when we get it mixedup, year after year after year

(10:24):
is we work on making amazingthings happen.
We set our goals at thebeginning of the year and some
of us have the cute littlevision boards and all of that
stuff is awesome, it's good.
I'm saying, don't do it.
We write them, our goals andour vision for our life for the

(10:46):
year, upon our mirror.
We put it in our Bibles.
Those of us who are spiritual,we want our goals and our Bibles
because I want the Lord tobless it and all of that's good.
But could it be the reason whywe get to the end of year after
year after year and yet can'tfind any peace?

(11:09):
Yet not much in our life haschanged because we have the
roles reversed.
God says I'll do the amazingthings if you would just
consecrate yourself, you concernyourself with the do, and if

(11:35):
you would concern yourself withchanging the who, the who you
are, I'll do the amazing thingsin your life.
Listen, you need goals for yourlife.
You need a vision for your life.
You gotta have a picture and astrategy for how you're gonna
accomplish them.
But you gotta hear me when Isay this what you need more than

(11:57):
anything else if you wanna seeGod do amazing things in your
life is consecration.
What we need in our church morethan anything else is not
another technique, not anotherprogram, not another structure,
not more organization, notanother this or another, that or
a retreat or anything like that.
God says you wanna see me fixwhat's broken.

(12:21):
You wanna see me do the amazing.
You be committed toconsecration and I'll be
committed to doing the amazingthings in your life.
You wanna see me move thewaters you're facing so that you
can walk across.
You wanna see me heal whatneeds to be healed in your life.
You wanna see me provide whatneeds to be provided.

(12:43):
You wanna experience my favorupon your life in 2024.
Here's what you gotta doconsecrate yourselves.
He says I'm gonna do theamazing.
Your job is to consecrateyourself in preparation for the
amazing things that I'm gonna do.
I know why you're also quietright now, because nine out of

(13:04):
10 of you are going.
What is consecration?
Yep, watch what Joshua tellshim.
In verse six it says Joshua saidto the priests take up the ark
of the covenant and pass on thehead of the people.

(13:26):
So they took it up and wentwhere.
Come on, I want you to read itwith me.
I love when we read the word ofGod together as a church.
Come on, joshua said to thepriests, take up the ark of the
covenant and pass on the head ofthe people.
So they took it up and went.
Notice what happens.

(13:47):
Joshua tells the priests y'alltake up the ark and go ahead of
us.
He says y'all go ahead of us.
Now understand what the arkmeant.
The ark was.
God has set things up in such away that the ark represented him
in his presence.
His power was in the ark, hisfavor was in the ark.

(14:10):
The ark represented him.
And whatever the ark went, there went the presence of God.
So when they got ready to move, they didn't just get up and go.
No, there was order to whatthey did, there was order to how
they moved.
Joshua says let the ark go first.
In other words, let thepresence of God go first, let

(14:35):
God move first and then, afterGod moves, then we will move you
.
Let God lead you and whereverhe goes, we'll just follow him
and we don't move until Godmoves.
We don't cross until God cross.
Why, joshua?
Well, if you could ask him that, he would say because we are

(14:55):
his people, we're the sheep ofhis pasture.
If you could ask him that, hewould say the reason why God
goes first for God's people isbecause God comes first in the
lives of God's people.
He would say we put him firstbecause he's our priority, he's
our first priority becauseeverything we are is for him and

(15:18):
everything we do is for him, byhim and in him and for his
glory His glory.
When we consecrate ourselves, itmeans we set ourselves apart
for him.
To consecrate means to givefull devotion to.
It means that I set myselfapart for no other use except

(15:43):
his use only.
It means I give all of me toall of him.
It means I recognize that everysecond of my time, every ounce
of my energy, every penny of mymoney, every fiber of my being
is a gift from God and wascreated and given to me for God.
All of me, everything that I am, everything that I have is a

(16:05):
gift from God and it was givento me for God.
It means that I go all in forthe all in all.
I recognize and live my life asif in him I live, in him I move
and in him I have my being.
Thank you for the golf clap.

(16:28):
This is where it gets tough.
To consecrate myself means thatI give God my full devotion.
Notice what Luke 9, 23, and 24says come on, read it with me.
Then he said to the crowd ifanyone wants to be my, you must

(16:57):
give up your own work.
Take up, come on, let's readthat again.
Read it again.
It says.
Then he said to the crowd ifany of you want to be my work,
you must give up your own work.
Stop right there.
He says if you want to be mywork, you must give up your own

(17:23):
work.
Listen, listen, listen.
Notice.
He doesn't tell them that ifthey want to follow him, they
have to take up their cross andfollow the rules.
It's not what he says.
Listen, this is bigger thanfollowing the rules.
Pastor White, why are youtelling us that?
Are the rules not important?
No, listen, everything that Godsays is important.

(17:45):
But sometimes we think we'regood because we have a good
handle on following the rules.
But, my friend, that's religion.
See, many of us who are maturebelievers, we would say you know
, pastor, I follow the rulespretty good, but here's what you
need to hear from me you canspend your life doing nothing

(18:07):
wrong and still get nothingright.
I'm gonna say that again youcan spend your life doing
nothing wrong and still getnothing right.
God didn't call you to followthe rules.
He called you to follow him.

(18:28):
What's the difference, pastor?
Well, following Jesus isn'twhere you try to do your best to
do nothing wrong.
Following Jesus means I spendmy life doing what he says is
right for my life.
There's a difference.
Following the rules means thatI do my best to make sure the

(18:51):
Ten Commandments are followed, and everything in the Bible is
following all that good stuff, and that's fine.
We need to do that, but ifyou're really gonna follow Jesus
, it's deeper than that.
It's more than that.
Wait a minute, pastor.
It's more than that.
What is it like?
Well, first of all, I'mconvinced that it's what's

(19:13):
missing for some of us.
Remember the rich young ruler?
The rich young ruler wasmiserable.
The crazy part about him beingmiserable is that he had
everything he ever thought hewould want, and the thing about
him, though, was he wasn'tpossessed by a demon, but he was
possessed by his possessions.
I'm gonna say it again becauseI can tell some of y'all didn't

(19:40):
like it.
He wasn't possessed by a demon.
He wasn't possessed by a demon,he was possessed by his
possessions.
He was in a situation where hedidn't own his stuff.
His stuff owned him.
If I'm gonna follow Jesus, it'snot just following the rules.
See, some of us, we made a dealwith Jesus I'll follow the

(20:05):
rules.
You just don't touch my stuff.
I'll follow the rules.
You just don't get to say whatI do with my stuff.
Some of us, we've gotten to theplace where our spiritual
journey is boring.
We've gotten to the place wherewe don't feel as present, we
can't hear his voice, where weno longer feel the fire that we

(20:28):
once felt for the things of Godand we cannot feel the fire that
we once felt for the things ofGod Can't move.
Figure out why, instead of way,I'll tell you why Because at
some point you stop followingJesus and you settle for
following the rules.
God didn't call you to followthe rules.

(20:48):
He called you to follow Him nomatter where he calls you, when
he calls you, no matter where heleads and no matter what he
demands of our lives, for othersof us, the question we have to
ask ourselves is not whether ornot I'm following Him or
following the rules.
The question that we have toask of ourselves is who's

(21:10):
following who?
Never forget.
When I first called myself, surrendering my life to Christ,
I was over at Southeasternstudying to be an accountant.
It made up in my mind that Ihad a plan for my life.
My plan for my life was I wasgonna go to school and get my

(21:31):
accounting degree and then I wasgonna get a master's degree in
accounting and then I was gonnasit for my CPA.
I was gonna get a job workingfor a nice little accounting
firm until I started my own firmand along the way I was gonna
buy my first house and then Iwas gonna take that and I was
gonna flip it into my second oneand then flip it into my third
one and I was gonna be anaccountant slash real estate

(21:53):
model Surrendered my life toChrist.
So I say I'm sorry, I'm sorry,I'm sorry.
I made a deal with God.
I knew he had called me intofull-time ministry.
At first I had said I'm notgoing into ministry, but God

(22:17):
kept calling and then I said, okay, lord, I surrender.
The truth is I hadn'tsurrendered, I had partially
surrendered.
Why you say that, pastor?
Because I had decided that Iwould do both ministry and
accounting.
I made a deal with God I'llpreach, I'll even pastor

(22:41):
part-time, but I'm doing thisaccounting thing.
I'll do both.
What I didn't realize is thatwhat I was really saying is Lord
, I can do your stuff.
When my stuff is done, I'll dowhat you want, but it has to
wait until I'm done doing what Ifeel like I need to do for me.

(23:04):
And listen, don't worry aboutit, jesus, because you'll still
be able to bless me while I'mdoing my own thing, because,
although you won't be first, you'll be a close second or
third or fourth or fifth, depending on what I got going on
.

(23:25):
See, what I was doing was I wasinviting Jesus to follow me.
I was inviting Jesus to put mefirst in his life and, as
opposed to being committed toputting him first in mine, I
wanted him to follow me in myplan.
I wanted him to serve mypurpose.
As opposed to being committedto serving his purpose, as

(23:47):
opposed to being willing tosurrender to and follow his plan
for my life.
I called him savior, but Irefused to surrender to him as
Lord.
I had an inverted gospel.
I had it backwards, upside down.
I was bought in but I wasn'tsold out.
It was half in and half out.

(24:10):
The Lord was calling me to goall in Now.
For me it was full-time ministry.
For most of us we're not calledto that.
But let me come down your roadfor a second.
Since the Holy Spirit came downmine, are you following him or

(24:36):
does he have to settle forfollowing you?
For me it was committing afull-time ministry, but for you
it might be as simple as notjust signing up for, but
actually attending faithfully asmall group.
For me it was full-timeministry, but for you it might

(24:58):
just be committed to giving himSunday mornings consistently.
For me it was full-timeministry.
For you it might be acommitment to giving him the
first fruits of your increase.
It was full-time ministry forme.
For you it might besurrendering your mouth.

(25:19):
What do you mean?
Surrendering my mouth, pastor?
It means speaking life insteadof gossip.
It was full-time.
What is God speaking to you tosurrender?
Could it be an unforgivingspirit?
What about the desire to befirst in your own life, as

(25:43):
opposed to putting him first.
What is he calling you tosurrender?
You don't hear that.
They're quiet.
Y'all know how much thatbothered me.
Not at all.
What is God calling you tosurrender, pastor?

(26:05):
Why doesn't the quiet botheryou?
Because if you're quiet rightnow, what you f follow what I'm
telling you, you give up whatGod is telling you to give up.
I know you'll be rejoicinglater on, because I know that
God wants to do amazing thingsin our lives.

(26:27):
But God is not going toparticipate in the plan you made
for him.
You got to get on board withthe plan that he made for you.
I'll tell you what happenedwith me.
I had allowed the enemy toconvince me that what I needed
was to find myself.
Young people, let me save yousome time.

(26:47):
You don't need to find yourself.
It's a lie from the pit of hell.
See, satan does a good job oftelling half truth In an effort
to get us to base all our liveson the whole lie.
He did it with Adam and Eve.
Did God really tell you youcould not eat of the fruit from

(27:12):
the trees and any of these, god,and any of these trees in the
garden?
No, god didn't say theycouldn't eat from any of the
trees.
He said they couldn't eat fromone tree.
Half truth, trying to get him tobuy a whole lie.
He did it with Jesus.
What did he do with Jesus?
Faster, matthew four says hetook him to the highest point of

(27:36):
the temple and told him ifyou're the son of God, throw
yourself down, for it is writtenhe will command the angels
concerning you and they willlift you up in their hands so
that you will not strike yourfoot against the stone.
Jesus said that's true, but theother part of that is he also
said it is written do not putyour Lord God to the test.

(27:57):
What was he trying to do?
Trying to get Jesus to live hislife on the lie.
He does the same thing with us.
What do you mean?
Well, satan will tell you thatyou need to find yourself.
Partial truth.
In what way, pastor?
Because, let's be honest, youdon't need to find yourself.
You already know who you are.

(28:18):
Listen, you've been living withyou for as long as you've been
living on this earth.
You don't have to find yourself.
You know you.
You wake up with you every day.
You know your faults, you knowyour habits.
You know the decisions you make.
You know your hangups, you knoweverything about you.
Don't believe.

(28:39):
Say what is not telling you isthe other part.
What's the other part?
That the only way to findyourself is to lose yourself in
Christ?
The only way to find purpose isto find your purpose in him.
Your peace is not found inyourself.
Your peace is found in theperson of Jesus Christ, and what

(29:01):
you're missing in your life isnot knowing more about yourself.
What you're missing is knowingwhat it's like to know him by
following him.
Your missing can only be foundin an all out pursuit the person
of Jesus Christ, with recklessabandon, with holding nothing,

(29:23):
surrendering all, saying to God,lord, everything I am belongs
to you.
There's nothing in my lifethat's off limits.
You got to hear me.
There's nothing like theblessing, there's nothing like
the fulfillment that comes fromgiving yourself to the person,

(29:49):
to the mission, to the kingdom,to the one who gave it all.
And listen, I'm not talkingabout Bible reading, neither.
Most of us are already Bibleeducated, way beyond our level
of obedience.
I'm not talking about listen.
You need to know that livingreading the Bible will not get

(30:14):
you to the place where you knowhim.
Oh, look how y'all looking atme.
I'm going to double down on it.
Reading the Bible will not getyou to the place where you know
him.
Well, what will pass thefollowing him?
What does that look like?
You don't need to know moreBible.

(30:35):
You need to obey the Bible youalready know Lord.
Have mercy Jesus, it's not justprayer.
I'm not talking about justprayer.
Yeah, you need to do that.
That'll help you know his voice.
That won't let you know him.
What will help me know him?

(30:56):
Pastor, doing what his voicetells you.
And I'm not just talking aboutpraying a prayer and asking him
to do that.
And I'm not just talking aboutpraying a prayer and asking him
to forgive your sins.
Yeah, you need to do that.
But listen, that's only thebeginning.
If you want to know him, yougot to go all in.

(31:18):
The only way to know him is tofollow him with everything in
you, some of us.
What we need is an all ornothing moment, a now or never
mentality.
You keep hedging your bets.
You keep telling God I'llfollow you until it comes to

(31:41):
this.
You keep demanding insurancewhen it comes to what God wants
from you.
That's the reason why, yearafter year after year, you don't
experience his fullness, younever ascertain his peace, you
don't realize his promises.
God says when are you going toburn the ships and go with

(32:06):
everything after me?
Because when you do, when youconsecrate yourself, when you
set yourself apart, I'll showyou amazing things.
Now heads bow.
Now heads bow.
Now heads bow, now heads bow.

(32:42):
What's the area in your lifethat you've not yet surrendered
to him?
This place is mine.

(33:02):
I'll let go of anything else,I'll do anything else, but you
can't have this Lord.
You can't have this Lord.
To consecrate yourself means toset yourself aside for the use

(33:28):
of nothing else, except whateverGod wants to use you for.
That's what this fast is about.
It's about surrenderinganything that stands between us
and the Lord, a deeper, moremeaningful relationship with him

(33:48):
.
That's why we're gathering forthe Spiritual Life Conference
tomorrow, monday, tuesday andWednesday to say to the Lord
Lord, we're putting you first.

(34:09):
Some of you might say to me,pastor, I hadn't given him my
life at all and I don't want tostart this year off without
doing it For you.
It begins with a relationshipwith him.
It begins with accepting him asLord and Savior.

(34:30):
The Holy Spirit is knocking onthe door of your heart, saying I
want you to surrender.
I want you to surrender to me.
I want you to give me your life, right where you are.

(34:51):
I won't call you down, want toembarrass you or anything like
that.
Just repeat this prayer afterme.
Dear Lord, today I'msurrendering to you.
I know that I'm a sinner, but Ibelieve you died on the cross

(35:13):
for my sins.

surrender my life to you todayand ask that you would give me
eternal life.
Tell him thank you for savingme in Jesus' name, while every

I just want you to just slip upyour hand.
The Bible says the angels inheaven are rejoicing.
I see your hand.

(36:00):
I see your hand.
Come on, I know you're here.
We want to rejoice too.
I see your hand.

(39:01):
be all in with everything, consecrate ourselves.
It's time now for our tithingoffering.
So listen, in the Old Testament, yes, god says bring a 10th
right to the temple.
And you might say, oh, that'sthe Old Testament, we don't need
to do that anymore.
The New Testament, jesus saysto give Sacrificially.

(39:21):
Okay, so where, wherever youare, we'll use that 10th as a
starting point.

trust God in that time.
Do it.
I dare you, because God isgoing to bless the socks off of
you.

He is going to close us in theLord's Prayer, so I'm gonna ask
everyone to stand.
This little man knows it.
So you guys might have tofollow him because you'll be
stumbling on your words, butthey are really learning
something in that.
Back to Gidget Dirt, our Father, which we are in heaven.

(40:25):
How be thy name, thy kingdomcome, thy will be done own earth
, as it is in heaven.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
Give us this day our daily bread, and we give our
song.
That's as we forgive ourdebtors and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us fromevil.
For it and in the power and theglory, forever and ever, amen.
