In this episode of Confessions from the Home Office, I welcome back a special guest, my son Austin Hill, who helps me with marketing tech work at Market Momentum. Be sure to subscribe, follow, like, share, and comment on the podcast to help it keep gaining traction!

Austin answers social media questions from listeners. He discusses the "Resend to Unopened" feature in email marketing platforms like flodesk, recommending it be used sparingly (waiting at least 48 hours) and only for important emails to avoid spam flags. Austin shares that changing the subject line (such as adding "In case you missed it") can help improve open rates.

Austin provides tips for keeping email platforms from being shut down, emphasizing the importance of using third-party platforms (not Gmail or Outlook) for mass emails and cleaning email lists by removing unsubscribers and bounced addresses to maintain account health.

On the topic of organizing social media assets for clients, Austin discusses scheduling tools like Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn, and Twitter for planning ahead. He highlights how Market Momentum uses Trello to organize content by client and by day, noting that expensive tools aren't necessary - their system runs effectively on about $100 per year.

The conversation shifts to AI tools, with Austin sharing his preferences. He likes OpenAI's ChatGPT (currently on model 4.0), noting its scheduling capabilities and Soma extension for generating AI photos and videos. He also mentions Claude for generating show notes and content ideas, and Google's newer Gemini tool (though he finds it has more errors than ChatGPT and Claude). Austin cautions that while AI is helpful for outlining and problem-solving, it requires human oversight as it can produce incorrect information and uses repetitive language patterns.

Austin then discusses his senior seminar project in computer information systems, which focuses on using artificial intelligence to identify and classify star types. He explains how he's creating a convolutional neural network that can learn from past data to predict star types, potentially reducing human error and speeding up astronomical classification processes.

The final segment takes a turn toward sports, with Austin discussing Clemson football and basketball. He shares insights about the team's defensive adjustments under new coordinator Tom Allen, thoughts on Dabo Swinney's approach to the transfer portal, his preference for home field advantage for higher-seeded playoff teams, and optimism about Clemson basketball's chances to make a deep tournament run, noting their 22-5 record and wins over Kentucky, Duke, and North Carolina.

Thanks, Austin, for being on the podcast!
