Az internet megjelenésével megoldhatóvá vált, hogy olyan adatokat mérjünk, amikre előtte nem volt lehetőség. A tradicionális marketingben (plakát, rádióreklám) az egyetlen visszajelzés az csak a bevétel volt. Ez mutatta meg, hogy mennyire volt sikeres az adott kampány.
