We are both humbled and delighted to be joined in this special Father's Day Episode of Conversations by the west Michigan father/son team of Jeff and Johnny Agar. Together along with the rest of their family, they are TeamAgar.
The Agars have been in the public eye for over a decade now following Johnny's stated goal to walk the final mile of their church's annual 5K in 2013. That was no small feat as Johnny, diagnosed shortly after birth with cerebral palsy, had only walked 23 steps prior. He succeeded, taking close to two hours to complete the task with hundreds of participants walking with him.
Johnny's dedication, training, and desire to participate in more endurance races has led he and his father (who either pushes or pulls Johnny) to compete in everything from 5Ks to 10Ks to marathons to triathlons to even receiving invitations on two separate occasions for the prestigious Ironman World Championship in Kona, HI.
There's is a story of mutual admiration and gratitude that's been shared by CBS Mornings, NBC's Today Show, and ESPN's E:60 (among many others).
Johnny's also taken a starring turn in a pair of Under Armour commercials:
We learn about their triumphs and their challenges during our time together and we hear Johnny expound on his famous mantra, "Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn."
And, thanks to the generosity of Johnny and his co-author mother, Becki, we have a signed copy of Johnny's memoir, The Impossible Mile: The Power in Living One Step at a Time, to give away. To enter, please complete this Google Form by no later than Monday, June 23, 2025.
