Our guest this episode is septuagenarian John Yandle.
By day, John works in the commericial real estate business.
It's John's side-gig that we find way cool.
A 1-time Stanford Cardinal pitcher and minor league hurler, John's been serving as a San Francisco Giants' left-handed batting practice pitcher for 41-years.
Yes, you read that correctly.
John's been tossing BP to the Giants since the days of Candlestick Park, a home the team vacated 25 years ago and a spot that was razed a decade ago.
Along the way he's thrown to just about every Giants' great you can name: Will Clark, Jeff Kent, Barry Bonds, Buster Posey. They've all seen John's firm and accurate fastball that stills reaches into the 80s, albeit from in front of the mound. He even had the opportunity to pitch BP to the National League All-Stars in Cincinnati in 2015.
As one might imagine, John has stories for days, including from his time at Stanford, in the minors, and, ultimately, how he happened into this role that's earned him three World Series rings.
