Create Art Podcast New Seriesthe New Artist Compass hello, friend.
This is Timothy Kimo Brienyour head instigator for Create Art
Podcast where I bring my over30 years of experience in the arts

(00:25):
and education world to helpyou tame your inner critic and create
more than you consume. So ifyou're a past listener or a longtime
listener, you know that wejust completed the Make Fun of Habit
series and I, I don't knowwhat it is, but for the past couple

(00:48):
of years, I really enjoy doingthese series. I started off with
the inspiration cards, then itmorphed into what we have to, well,
what we have had for the pastyear, which has been making fun a
habit for your creativepractice. And now I thought, well,

(01:09):
you know, I know enough aboutart. Let's do something for new artists.
So that's what you're going tobe getting for the next, oh, I don't
know, 12 episodes should runus for the next three, three and
a half months. So somethingI've found really beneficial in these

(01:29):
series is that it constantlymakes me think of what I need to
be doing. It's kind of myguidepost to, you know, present to
you the new artist, you know, things that you may not have thought

(01:50):
of. Maybe you didn't go tocollege for art, whatever it is,
maybe you've been given a lotof the wrong ideas of what it means
to be creative and an artist. So this new series that I thought
up, I've been thinking aboutit. It's been in the back of my head

(02:10):
for a long time and that's whyit's called the New Artist Compass.
So let me talk to you a littlebit about it. I'm going to try to
make it a bi weekly series soevery other week. And, you know,
maybe you just picked up abrush for the first time in years.

(02:30):
Maybe you're looking at ablank page, wondering if you can
call yourself an artist. Ormaybe you've been doing things quietly,
kind of under the radar andunsure, you know, you know, whether
to share them with the worldor not. Well, wherever you are, this
is the right place for you.You belong here. I'll call you an

(02:52):
artist. I'll tell you, go outthere and share it with the world.
I'll say, hey, tackle thatblank page and we'll give you ideas
and steps that you can dothat. And if you've stepped away
from art for a while, hey, this is your call to come back. Now,
the New Artist Compass is aseries that I made just for you,

(03:17):
whether you're an artist inthe beginning of your journey or
you're coming back. And we'regoing to talk about things that don't
always get covered intraditional classes or how to tutorials
or other podcasts oncreativity. Now what are we going
to be covering? Well, how tobuild a creative space that truly

(03:39):
inspires you, even if it'sjust a corner in your kitchen. We're
going to talk about how tohandle first time critiques or if
people are ignoring your work,we're going to show you how to handle
that. Also going to talk toyou about how to stay motivated when
your ideas feel stuck and yourconfidence dips. You know that whole

(04:02):
imposter syndrome thing? Yeah,we're going to talk about that. We're
going to talk about how toconnect with other artists when you're
feeling isolated. And this iskey for artists is to have that community.
And, you know, probably themost important thing is how to define
success and what that lookslike for you. Now, each episode is

(04:27):
going to focus on onechallenge or decision point that,
you know, most of the newartists face. And we're going to
share insights, encouragement, and, you know, sometimes we're going
to invite guests to be here.So think of this as your creative
support system or yourcompass. As the name implies, it's

(04:48):
not a strict roadmap. Some ofthe episodes you're going to get
something out of, some ofthem, it's like a buffet. You know,
take what you will and leavethe rest, but it's going to help
guide and navigate your ownunique path. Here's the thing, you
don't have to have it figuredout. I've been doing art for 30 years.
I don't have it all figuredout. You just need to be willing

(05:11):
to take that next step andthat's what we're doing here, you
and me. So if this is yourfirst time listening, hey, you've
got in on a great series here.Or if this is the first time you
really thought yourself as anartist. Welcome in to the fold. You
know, welcome to the darkside. As I like to say, we have cookies.

(05:34):
I am very glad you are here.You. That's right, I'm talking to
you. You know, whether you'rein your car, mowing the lawn or whatever
you're doing right now. I'mglad you're here. I'm glad you took
time to out of your day tospend with me and for us to talk

(05:54):
about art. So what all thismeans too is that I'm inviting you
to join me on the show andwhat I'm going to do here for you
is list out all the topics I'mgoing to be talking about. Now, if
you would like to have aconversation and if you'll allow
me to record it, these are thetopics I want to talk about. Now,

(06:18):
you can be an expert in this. You can have questions about it.
Basically, it's aconversation. And I want this series
to be a series ofconversations that I'm having with
other artists. Because, folks,I don't have all the answers. So
what works for me may not workfor you. And if that's the case,
I want to hear what works foryou. So here's the topics we're going

(06:41):
to be tackling. Setting upcreative workspace. Creative constraints
and prompts. Sharing your workonline for the first time. Dealing
with criticism and rejection.Finding or building an artistic community.

(07:02):
Collaboration as a creativecatalyst. Staying motivated Long
term Mental health andcreativity. Art challenges and social
media trends. Measuring growthas an artist. Why do you create?
When to call yourself anartist? And I'll let you in a little
bit on that one right now.Lessons from a year of creating and

(07:28):
setting creative goals withoutkilling the joy. Now, something I
want to tell you is that ifthat episode comes out and you're
just picking this up, don'tworry about it. Because at the end
of this, I'm going to do twobonus episodes. One is going to be

(07:49):
what I call Oops, I missed outon when you did this episode. That's
where, hey, if we've alreadydone it but you didn't get the, you
didn't get the memo. Well, fire your assistant first of all,
foremost. But if you didn'tget the memo on that one, that's
fine. We can still have thatconversation about it. I still want

(08:10):
to talk to you about it. Okay?So don't sweat that. And then the
last one is going to be mybest of in this series. So that one,
maybe, you know, maybe you gotin on time and got that episode that
you got on that episode thatyou wanted to get on. Or maybe you

(08:31):
got the Oops, I didn't get thememo episode. Or maybe you're just
like, you know, somethingalong those lines. So don't worry,
you're gonna have plenty oftime. We'll set up interviews. Well,
actually, you know, I've gotto, you know, slap myself for that.

(08:54):
These aren't going to beinterviews. These are going to be
conversations. So I'm going togive my ideas, somebody's going to
give their ideas and you'regoing to be the beneficiary of all
those ideas. So check it out.I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you're
starting your journey with us.Now here's the most important part.

(09:15):
If you want to be on the show, you need to email me. Timothy art
podcast.com if you getsomething out of any of these episodes,
I'm going to ask that you goahead and share that episode with
others that may be having ahard time just like you. And that's.
I don't know where you couldbuild your community. Oh, hey, we're

(09:37):
already talking about theseries, but definitely share it with
somebody else. Do them, dothem a solid. Okay? Do, do your creative
friends a solid. And also Iwant to know how this new format,
this new series goes. So Iwant you to email me and let me know.

(09:59):
Is it too long, too short? Arethe topics something that you're
not interested in? Do you haveideas for other topics that I should
be discussing in this? Do youhave an idea for a conversation that
you want to have with me thatyou don't mind if everyone else listens
in on? Email me. That's thebest way to do it. Now I said something

(10:23):
about sharing the show withothers. I do have another show out
there. It's called Find aPodcast about and you can find it
at findapodcastabout xyz andthat's where I help my listeners
over there. You know, they, Iwant them to, you know, outsmart
that algorithm and find theirnext binge worthy podcast. Check

(10:44):
it out for yourself. If you'relooking for a cool podcast to listen
to and it can be on any topicwhatsoever, or if you want me to
review a podcast so that waythe word can get out to other folks
about a really great podcast, let me know. A lot of times I get
the podcast host on the showand actually interview them so you
could get some behind thescenes stuff and some inside information.

(11:07):
If you listen to Find aPodcast about, I also want to let
you know that I do run abusiness. It's called TKB Podcast
Studio and that's where I helpmy clients lead through the noise
with quiet professionalism.I'm setting up podcasts all the time.
People ask me, hey, you know, how easy is this to do? Well, I'm

(11:29):
doing it and I'm 52 and I'mnot the smartest, not the smartest
guy in the room and I makesure that I'm not the smartest guy
in the room because then Ineed to go to a different room. But
if you need help starting yourpodcast, get in contact with me.
TKBpodcaststudio.com or youcan email me@timothykbpodcaststudio.com

(11:54):
I definitely want to work withyou and help you make your vision
come to life. All right, well, that is all I have for you today.
Again, I want to thank you fortuning into Create Art podcast here
with me. I need to get on withmy day. I know you need to get on
with your day. I've alreadygot, as of July, I already have a

(12:21):
conversation in the can that Ineed to put out for you guys to get
this series kind of kicked offand all that good stuff. So if any
of those topics interest you, reach out to me and let's have that
conversation, let's record it,and let's share it with everyone

(12:42):
else that listens to thispodcast. Okay? All right. So get
on with your day. I'm gettingon with mine. And go out there, tame
that inner critic. Create morethan you consume. Go out there and
make some art for somebody youlove. Yourself. I'll talk to you
