For over a decade, Summer Owens has been inspiring, educating, and empowering people to achieve S.O. What! Success– that’s success no matter what obstacles they face. Summer Owens is an award-winning author, speaker, success coach, and founder of the S.O. What! Foundation.
Summer became a mother at fifteen years old, but she didn’t let that stop her from achieving her dreams. Selected Most Likely to Succeed, she graduated number eight in her high school class. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and the title of Miss University of Memphis and started her career with the Memphis Grizzlies in their inaugural season. After earning her MBA, she continued her career in marketing management positions with ServiceMaster and Fedex before pursuing full-time entrepreneurship and philanthropy.
As an entrepreneur she has spoken to hundreds of audiences sharing her S.O. What! message of resilience to thousands. She has created transformative programs and products to inspire people to see past their challenges and embrace the S.O. What! Mindset and see how saying S.O. What! means Success. These include the keynotes and workshops, and online courses. Her unique, trauma-informed S.O. What! Literacy, Life Skills, and Character Education curriculum has impacted thousands through implementation in schools and youth programs throughout the country. She is also a success coach and consultant and the creator of inspiring events like the annual Love Yourself Event and the S.O. What! Awards and Scholarship Soiree celebrating stories of resilience and community contributions. Understanding the power of sharing our stories, Summer is the creator and host of the S.O. What! Success Stories podcast where guests share their resilience stories using Summer’s S.O. What! Success System.
She has received several honors including the University of Memphis Distinguished Alumni Award as well as the Fogelman College of Business and Economics Outstanding Young Alumna award. Asked to create a life skills course using her own story, she is also an adjunct professor at the University of Memphis. She was named to the Memphis Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 and received the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Prominent Black Women Award, the Women of Achievement Heroism Award, Dress for Success Entrepreneurial Spirit Award among others for her work in the Memphis community and beyond.
Her story of resilience has been featured nationally and internationally on CNN, the 700 Club, and other media outlets. She credits her son for helping her to become the confident and resilient woman she is today.
