Jennifer Logue (00:10):
Hello everyone
and welcome back to Creative
Space, a podcast where weexplore, learn and grow in
creativity together.
My name is Jennifer Logue andyes, I did take all of August
off from the podcast, but it wasfor a very good reason.
I was busy moving across thecountry.
So after my LA experiments, Idecided that I did in fact want
(00:36):
to move to California.
So before I even went back tothe East Coast post this like
vacation I signed a lease and itwas scary but I was all in.
I didn't know how I was goingto do it all in six weeks, but
somehow it worked out.
Sometimes you just got to takea leap of faith.
So I practiced what I preachpeople.
(00:56):
So I flew back to Philly, soldor gave away everything in my
house, made all the necessaryrepairs on the house, shipped my
car over, packed what I couldin three suitcases, and here I
am in my new space.
And August yeah, it was, in aword, an unearthing.
(01:18):
It was powerful, it tested meand it taught me lessons I'll
carry with me in other areas ofmy life.
Now, I haven't mentioned thison social before and I've
mentioned it to a few closefriends over the years, but I
kept having this dream of myfeet in the earth, roots growing
(01:38):
around my ankles holding medown, and in the dream I had
this feeling of stagnation andstuckness and every time I woke
up from it I knew I had to freemyself from it.
Like I knew I needed new soiland LA was that new soil.
And I really knew it from dayone of my experiment.
(01:58):
I really did.
I had so much clarity about thedecision and we don't always
get that in life.
So many of our choices can bein that gray area.
But this for me, was so clear, like I didn't really have a
choice but to go for it.
And you'd think that it wouldcause me so much anxiety with
(02:18):
how much effort it would take tocoordinate such a big move in
such a small amount of time.
But once I committed to thedecision, I actually had so much
peace.
For me the anxiety came fromavoiding the decision in the
first place, from living in thatland of one day I'll move to LA
, one day I'll try out the WestCoast.
(02:39):
So once I decided I couldfinally breathe, you know, I
just took a breath.
I knew it was going to be messy.
I made my list of things to doand I got to work and the
clarity of purpose carried methrough the mess.
The long list of things to do.
Like it, just having thatpurpose, having my eye on where
(03:01):
I wanted to go.
Now I want to pause here so youcan have some time to explore
these questions for yourself.
What decision have you beenputting off?
Usually there's something thatcomes to mind.
It can be big, it can be small.
What is calling you that you'reafraid of?
Again, it can be big, can besmall.
(03:24):
Anything that comes to mind.
That's a clue.
What would happen if you justdecided today to take action?
You don't need to have all theanswers now.
Maybe you can go back andjournal about it, take some time
to yourself to think about it.
But having these littlecheck-ins with yourself is so
important.
It's so easy to get lost inlife and just go through the
(03:48):
motions.
But pay attention, take thattime to listen to that still
small voice inside of you.
I believe all of us are herefor a very special purpose and
if we all pay attention to whatlights us up, to what we're
curious about, we'll find ourway and we'll be in alignment.
Now back to the move.
(04:08):
The letting go was not easy.
I remember sitting in my housethe day after I flew back to
Philly and everything was in itsplace and decorated just the
way I wanted it, and I thought,oh, did I make the right call?
This is going to sound silly, but when I sold my first item,
(04:30):
the first item to go was thisnavy blue filing cabinet and I
had spent weeks looking for thisthing to have the perfect
office set up, and that fearfulvoice chimed in are you sure you
really want to do this?
Isn't this a little too extreme?
Can't you just vacation in LA?
Just go there for a month everyyear to scratch the itch?
(04:54):
But I kept coming back to howaligned I felt in LA and that
clarity.
Again it guided me through themessiness that comes with
uprooting yourself from yourcomfort zone.
And, man, my comfort zone wasreally comfy, so comfy, oh my
gosh.
But by the time the last pieceof furniture was gone, I had no
(05:15):
more attachment to the stuff.
You know, it's just stuff and afriend in LA had told me you'll
bring your style and yourenergy with you.
You're the magic.
And she was so right.
Like I'm sitting here now in mynew creative space, which I feel
so inspired by, like I.
It just lights me up and I'mmore focused here, I feel more
(05:38):
connected and I'm surrounded byall these amazing creatives and
man.
I just feel so grateful, myheart is so full.
And it's interesting whenyou're aligned, like when you're
on the path.
It's incredible how little youactually need to be happy.
That's something I'm findingout right now, you know, because
I have less space.
(05:59):
You know I have less stuff, butI'm so much happier and lighter
Closing with love.
Now, something else I learnedthrough this whole process that
I wanted to share with you isthat it's really important for
us to close old chapters withlove.
Sure, I was slammed with movingtasks Like it was a lot but I
(06:21):
had this spark of inspiration tohost a birthday bon voyage
party, just a little housede-warming with my friends and
family.
So everyone came by, we hungout, we ate cake and some even
took home a few of my things, and it felt really good to fill
my house with love beforeclosing that chapter and to feel
(06:45):
so supported by the people Icare about back home as I embark
on this new chapter.
So what lessons can you takefrom all of this?
Well, number one is once youdecide, clarity will carry you
through.
Clarity will carry you throughthe mess.
You know that.
Just trust in it, keep your eyeon it.
(07:05):
Keep your eye on what you want, where you want to go.
Number two you are the magic, not the stuff.
Like it's just stuff In themoment.
It might be hard to give away, but you'll get over it.
You will get over it becauseyour purpose is more important
than this stuff.
And guess what?
You will get more stuff.
And it's funny, like things thatI was worried about not having,
(07:29):
like that I'll need, justmagically appeared like at my
place in LA, like I, I was at abeach party and this girl that I
just met, wonderful person, shewas chatting about how she was
moving to Vietnam in a week andshe was like I have a whole
(07:49):
apartment full of stuff.
Like I could you know I canlike give you everything you
need.
She drove to my new house anddropped off all this stuff that
I needed to get set up in LA andlike it's funny, funny, she had
so many things in that I guessapartment care package that were
(08:10):
things that I had back homethat I couldn't ship with me.
It was just funny.
It's funny how the universeprovides for us.
We always have everything weneed Something to think about.
Then number three is justclosing chapters with love sets
the tone for your next chapter.
(08:30):
So I didn't want to end mychapter in Philly with frantic
energy, so having that closingparty just really put me in a
place of love and gratitude andhappiness and I think that
really set the tone for this newchapter in LA.
(08:52):
So if you're going to close achapter, I think it's really
important and it may not be aget-together for you.
Maybe it's having a gratitudepractice doing some meditation
by yourself, maybe it's having agratitude practice doing some
meditation by yourself, maybeit's creating something
beautiful, like when you close achapter, like closing it with
love, I think makes all thedifference.
(09:13):
So, anyway, that's all I havefor this episode of Creative
Space.
My name is Jennifer Logue and Ihope this brought you some
inspiration for your owncreative journey.
Until next time.
