Jennifer Logue (00:10):
Hello everyone and welcome to Creative Space, a
podcast where we explore, learnand grow in creativity together
.
I'm your host, jennifer Logue, and today's episode is all about
finding your creative community, a topic that I think so many
of us can relate to, and it'sactually inspired by an email I

(00:32):
got from Alex, a freelancewriter in Portland.
Here's what Alex wrote Hi,jennifer, I've been struggling
to find a community oflike-minded creatives.
I feel isolated working fromhome and I'm not sure where to
start in finding a group thatinspires and supports me.
How do I find a creativecommunity that truly resonates?

(00:56):
Thanks, alex.
First off, thank you, alex, forsharing that.
I know it's tough out there,especially when you're working
solo, so finding the right groupof people can make such a big
difference, and I'm really gladyou asked this question.
This is something I personallystruggled with, so I know how

(01:16):
hard it can be.
Before I give you my thoughts, though, I want to remind you
that I'm not a licensed medicalprofessional.
This podcast is purely forinformational and inspirational
purposes only, so please consulta qualified therapist or doctor
for any mental health concerns.
But back to the issue ofworking from home and searching

(01:39):
for creative community, here arefive tips that might help you,
alex, and anyone else out therewho's listening.
Tip number one start small andlocal.
Okay, so this first tip is tostart small and local.
Sometimes we overlook what'sright in front of us.
Check out local bookstores, coffee shops or community

(02:01):
centers for flyers aboutcreative meetups or workshops.
You might be surprised what'shappening right in your
neighborhood.
Tip number two dive into onlinecommunities.
If local options are limited, the internet is your best friend
.
There are amazing creativegroups online, whether you're

(02:23):
into writing, painting, music oranything else, join a Facebook
group, a Reddit community or aforum that feels like a good fit
for you.
You can connect with peoplefrom all over the world who
share your passion.
And, just in case you'reinterested, I'll be hosting
another free Artist's Wayworkshop in 2025.

(02:43):
Another free Artist's Wayworkshop in 2025, and that's all
done online and you can buildgreat new friendships with
creatives remotely from doingthat.
Tip number three take a class orworkshop.
Now, this one is great becauseit's killing two birds with one
stone.
You get to learn something newand you get to meet people who
are interested in the same thingyou are.

(03:05):
It could be a weekend workshop,a night class, whatever works
for you, and the best part iseveryone's there to grow and
connect.
Just like you, I made so manynew friends and reconnected with
old ones when I did a directingworkshop at Playhouse West last
year.
So yeah, workshops are amazingfor that.

(03:27):
Tip number four volunteer forcreative events.
This is one of my favorites.
Volunteering puts you right inthe middle of the action.
You get to meet other creatives, see how events are run and
give back to the community.
Plus, you're surrounded bypeople who are just as
passionate as you are, and thatenergy is so contagious.

(03:51):
Tip number five create your owngroup.
And hey, if you can't find whatyou're looking for, why not
create it?
Start a small meetup, like aweekly writing group at a cafe
or a monthly writer happy hour.
It doesn't have to be big, andyou'd be surprised how many
people are looking for the samething and just need someone to

(04:14):
take the initiative.
Why can't that someone be you?
So, alex, I hope these tipshelp you on your quest to find a
creative community that lightsyou up.
It might take some time andeffort, but once you find your
people, it's so worth it.
And to everyone else listeningif you have a question or a
topic you'd like me to cover.

(04:35):
Shoot me an email at info atjenniferlogecom.
I love hearing from you all.
All right, that's all I got fortoday.
Keep creating, keep connectingand I'll catch you next time.
Thank you.
