over three months until my daughter andher boyfriend move in with me, and
I couldn't be more excited to havethe company. So their move at the
end of May is going to bea great thing for all of us,

(01:11):
I think, at least financially. And if it's not, you know,
I'll be bitching to you about itlater. I'm saving up still to get
to the True Crime and Paranormal Festivalin Austin, Texas in August. I'd
love to see you there. Youcan use promo code Beyond for fifteen percent
off your ticket to the festival.I'll leave a link to the website in

(01:34):
the show notes. And it lookslike there'll be other Darkcast shows there as

haven't heard of yet, but it'sa brilliant new show on Darkcast Network and
it's based on trans and gender nonconformingcrimes murders. Thus A Hateful Homicide murder

(01:59):
murders possibly could be their weird truecrime and sinister story our our planning on
being there and maybe even more shows. I'm super excited to see them,
and my friend Jen from our truecrime podcast, Eric from True Consequences,
and Courtney from a Nefarious Nightmare. You can find me on the socials,

(02:21):
as Rainbow Crime and Dirt Casts Networkjust about everywhere. Also, please consider
joining my Patreon at the five dollarunicorn level. You'll get no ads in
the episode, and I know someof you really hate those ads. Early
release of those episodes, and oneextra case at the end of every month

(02:42):
that I've not shared here on theregular show as we take our unicorns out
for a ride and I tell youthe story. I'll also name a unicorn
in your honor, and I'll shootyou some stickers and some other fun things
if I can get your mailing address. Well, I think that's it for
the housekeeping. Now let's get downto business. The case I'm presenting to

(03:07):
you today is when from nineteen ninetyHollywood, California. It's actually been a
cold case until very recently the lastyear or two, when a group of
citizens sleus were able to solve it. This group includes an lap D cold
case detective, a filmmaker, astay at home dad, and two podcast

(03:31):
hosts and writers living in Los Angeleswho happen to be a couple of gay
men. The podcast host names areChristopher Rice and Eric shaw Quinn. Their
podcast is The Dinner Party Show andit's been touted as the internet's first live
comedy variety show. The host becamea little obsessed with the victim and the

(03:55):
whole crime that I'm going to tellyou about, an amazing they helped to
solve the case. This story pullsno punches in the way of twists and
terns either. William Arnold Newton wasborn July twenty ninth, nineteen sixty five.
He was a leo and he livedin Eau Claire, Wisconsin, but

(04:18):
his mom she bounced him all aroundWisconsin until he ran away at the age
of sixteen to Oklahoma City. OklahomaCity was where his dad was. In
nineteen eighty. William went up tohis dad's door and he knocked. His
dad opened it and he said, are now Faggot's son of mine? And

(04:38):
he slammed the door closed in William'sface. William, who went by Bill,
had that cute, blonde haired, blue eyed boy next door type look.
He almost reminded me of a crossbetween a young Kevin Bacon and Keefer
Sutherland. After being dejected by hisdad, Bill met a young man named

(04:59):
Tera and started to live with himas opposed to going back to live with
his mother again. But Bill grewrestless easily. Bill decided to drop out
of high school. He actually neverattended high school in Oklahoma because there was
no real adult in his life anymoreto oversee that he went to school.
Instead, Bill enrolled into cosmetology schooland he earned his beautician's license. With

(05:26):
his new found license in hand,Bill then left Terry in Oklahoma City,
he made up his mind to moveto southern California in nineteen eighty four.
He also got his ged through theLos Angeles School District, but that wasn't
until nineteen eighty nine. Bill wasn'tdumb by any means. In fact,

(05:46):
he was quite the opposite. Hejust got bored quickly with mundane routine.
Before completely settling down in the LosAngeles area in nineteen eighty five, he
traveled around the United States. Thisallowed him to explore for sure who he
was. Oh, he knew hewas gay, but he wasn't sure what

(06:08):
his interests other than sexually were.He really just wanted to see what was
out there in the world and explorepossibilities. Bill was also very artistic.
Poetry and drawing were his creative outlets. When Bill was back in Los Angeles,
he worked as a makeup artist anda choreographer for a company that produced

(06:30):
music videos. This had to bea pretty good gig too, because I
remember videos and MTV were all therage in the eighties. But as we
know, living in a big cityis expensive. In spite of having two
jobs he loved, Bill knew hewas going to need another job to help
pay his living expenses, Bill tooka job at the Hollywood Spa, which

(06:53):
was a gay bathhouse. While workingat the bathhouse, Bill met Mark Rabin.
He was an adult film producer cateringto gay erotic movies. The two
started dating and eventually they became lovers. Bill would even star in some of
Mark's films, and he changed hisname to Bill E. London. Then,

(07:14):
no, I didn't choke on theword Billy. He used the letter
E as his middle name, soit became Billy, Bill E, Billy,
Billy London, and just Billy themost. They'd often use their own
apartment to shoot the movies in,and then they'd redecorate after every movie wrapped.
That way, it didn't look likethey were in the same place all

(07:36):
the time. The two men wouldoften party into the morning hours, getting
amped up with meth on weekends, and Billy liked to keep the roots of
his hair dyed so people wouldn't assumehe was blonde and dumb, you know,
because of the dumb blonde stigma thatfloats around. He tell people he

(07:57):
bleaches it to be blonde. Bythe way, take offense to the dumb
blonde stigma. My daughter's blonde, and she's one smart cookie. Maybe not
so much book smart, as shehas common sense and street smart, which
I think in this world can bemuch more important. On the night of
October twenty eighth, nineteen ninety, twenty five year old Billy was out on

(08:20):
the town having a good time.He and Mark were in this on again,
off again relationship, and at thispoint the relationship was off again.
Billy was even planning on moving toLas Vegas for a while. He really
needed a mental health break, sothat night, on October twenty eighth,

(08:41):
nineteen ninety, Billy went to TheRage, which was a gay night club
in West Hollywood. The Rage issince shut down due to landlord disputes in
COVID in twenty twenty. The lasttime Billy was seen alive was leaving the
Rage alone late the night of thetwenty eighth, or it could have even
been the early hours of October twentyninth. But later the following day,

(09:03):
which was the twenty ninth, Billy'shead and feet were recovered in a dumpster
in Santa Monica, California. Thisis about eleven miles from West Hollywood.
The rest of Billy's body has neversurfaced, his murder becoming a cold case
that's been dubbed the Gay Black Dahliamurder by media. As a side,

(09:24):
Jeffrey Dahmer was caught in July ofnineteen ninety one. He was suspected for
some time of being Billy's killer, but Dahmer admitted to all those he murdered,
and he denied ever knowing Billy, let alone slaying him. Year after
year, Billy's murder remained a mystery. Now we're going to flash forward a

(09:45):
little bit to the year two thousandand seven, and we're going to go
back to Oklahoma, where Billy camefrom. In two thousand and seven,
it had now been seventeen years afterBilly's murder. A sixty two year old
a man by the name of StephenJoemer was last seen alive near a carwash
talking to two men. Stephen wassometimes known to pick up men and bring

(10:09):
him back to his place for sex. A little over a week later,
after Stephen was seen talking to thosetwo men, his body was found dumped
at a ravine in McClean County,Oklahoma. Ten days after that, a
man known to be part of theUnited Aryan Brotherhood was found murdered. But
CJ. What did Stephen and thewhite supremacist have in common? And what

(10:33):
the hell did either have to dowith Billy. I'll get back to the
Billy part. But Stephen and theAryan Brotherhood member were thought to be murdered
by another Aryan skinhead, a thirtyseven year old man named Darryl Lynn Madden.
Daryl had a shaved head and facetats. One of the tats was

(10:56):
a tear drop coming from one eye, and the other appeared to be slashes
where his eyebrows once were. Notonly did he look the part of a
criminal's skinhead, he acted the partas well. Darrell was being looked at
by the police detectives in Oklahoma forkilling his fellow's skinhead, and they believed

(11:18):
that both members of the Arian Brotherhoodkilled Stephen as an initiation, which they
did. Darrell said he was lookingfor an easy mark to roll for his
buddy, and he decided what couldbe easier than a gay man. Darrell's
trial for the murders of Stephen andthe fellow's skinhead were held the following year.

(11:39):
In two thousand and eight, hewas found guilty after confessing, and
he was given four life sentences, although the death sentence was still being considered.
Oklahoma didn't have any hate crime lawsat the time, so that was
off the table, although had therebeen any, Darrell's murder of Stephen would
have definitely qualified for it. Overthe years sitting in his prison cell,

(12:05):
Darrow went through some life transformations.Oh, he still had his face tattoos,
although he tried to turn them intosomething more beautiful. Beautiful, Well,
that's a weird comment to say abouta skinhead, hear me out,
Warriors. The slashes of where hiseyebrows were are full on eyebrow chats now

(12:26):
the tear drops look more like it'ssupposed to be some type of beauty mark,
or maybe it's even a heart wherethe shaved head once was his trademark
of being a skinhead. There isa mane of flowing, brownish graying long
hair, and Darrow went from beinga member of the Aryan Brotherhood, a

(12:48):
white supremacist group, to being aJewish woman called Daryl Lynn Madden. Did
y'all see that one coming? BecauseI shirted what a one eighty Drylyn did.
From being someone that hates the LGBTQand Jews to becoming part of both
communities. It's downright flabbergasting. Almostthis shocking is finding out Darryl was once

(13:16):
a gay porn actor as well.Yes, this insight leads me to believe
that Derelyn had been struggling with innerdemons for a very long time. But
we should probably get back to ouroriginal story of Billy London and that of
the citizen detectives who cracked the case. Although, because you, my listeners,

(13:41):
are so smart, you can probablysee the path that these twists and
turns are leading us. On.Part of the citizen detectives, the stay
at home dad named Clark Williams,he had been fascinated with the Billy London
case for years. He had alsoheard of the case of Stephen Domer in
Oklahoma, MoMA, who was murderedby the two skinheads, so he started

(14:03):
to look a little harder at themand their backgrounds. He was surprised to
find derre Lynn and Billy Lad kindof parallel lives. Both had lived in
Los Angeles in the nineteen eighties andearly nineties. Both were gay porn actors.
Oh, by the way, dereLynn's porn actor name was Billy Houston,

(14:24):
which isn't far off from Billy London. Then dere Lynn went from acting
in gay pornos to becoming a skinheadand killing a gay man in Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, also where Billy London wasliving before moving to the Los Angeles area.
All of this just seemed like waytoo many coincidences to Clark. So

(14:45):
when Clark presented his findings to theLos Angeles cold case detective, the detective
said, I've always considered myself agood and thorough investigator, but I would
have never made this connection. Notlong later, the filmmaker and the podcast
host were also all looking into thecase. After a good amount of ideas

(15:07):
and information came through from all ofthe citizen detectives, the cold case detective
flew to Oklahoma to interview dere Lynn. She right out admitted to killing Billy
in Los Angeles in nineteen ninety. She said she approached Billy one night when
she saw him leaving a gay club. She calmly told him she was going

(15:28):
to rob him, kidnap him,and probably beat the shit out of him,
but he'd be okay after which weknow turned into a huge life.
She said she'd then strangled him todeath before dismembering his body. After that,
she would say no more. Itspeculated she thought if she did,

(15:48):
she might be incriminating an accomplice.Even though Billy's murderer had confessed, the
State of California decided not to takedere Lyn to trial for Billy's murder.
They fill there just isn't enough evidenceto prove it in spite of her confession.
Plus, Drylyn is already spending therest of her life locked up.
I have mixed feelings about all ofthis. On one hand, I feel

(16:12):
Billy really isn't getting the unicorn justas he deserves. On the other hand,
that's a lot of money in courtfees and such that's being saved on
someone who's already serving four life sentencesfor other killings. As for the other
citizen detectives on the case, thefilmmaker is named Rachel Mason, and she

(16:34):
grew up in her parents' shop. That shop rented gay porn movies and sold
LGBTQ books. Rachel was looking tomake a film that had a real story
to it, something that felt personalto her. She met up with a
man who's a writer and activist togo through his collection of old Hollywood photos.

(16:56):
Rachel picked up a book and anewspaper article about Billy London's murder fell
out. She looked at his pictureand he looked like so many of the
young men that her parents had employedin their bookshop. She began to ask
about the article and it intrigued her. Rachel went on to finish up another
project she was working on, butshe kept thinking about the Billy London case.

(17:22):
She began her research in digging intothe case. At about the same
time, so did our two podcasthost Christopher and Eric. The two hosts
put out a call of action ontheir podcast. They were asking for any
tips or leads in the case havemurdered Billy almost thirty years ago. That
was back in twenty twenty. Theydid this. One of the tips was

(17:44):
of a witness who saw Billy atthe rage and also talking with someone he
thought looked like Jeffrey Dahmer. Now, while that tip turned out to lead
nowhere, the LA cold case detectivewho was now on the case started to
learn of the other citizen detectives andreached out to him. The detective had

(18:06):
six binders on Billy's case, andhe cracked open each and every one of
them and began to relook into thecase as well as the tips from the
stay at home dad. What thiscitizen task force did was lead to Darrell
Lynn Madden or Derre Lynn as weknow her today. I really hate that

(18:27):
Billy London and Stephen Jomer had todie, but I love the way these
folks all came together to solve thiscase. Rest in power Billy and Stephen.
As far a true crime quickie,It's been a bloody month of February
for our friends in the state ofNew York. In fact, in the

(18:48):
short span of fifteen hours, twopeople died and nine were wounded due to
gun violence. For gay nineteen yearold Andre Matthews, who went by Dre,
he would become one of many victimsslain this month in New York.
Drey sounds like he was a wonderfulyoung man with a bright future ahead of

(19:11):
him. He didn't partake in drugsor illegal anything. Really, he wasn't
lost in street gangs. Drey workedtwo jobs and he went to junior college
studying to become a social worker. He really wanted to help people. As
far as his mom knew, Dreywasn't dating anyone. I'm not sure where

(19:33):
he would have found the time withtwo jobs in school. He had a
fantastic sense of humor, and whenhe did have some free time, he
usually spent it with his family orat home playing video games. Drey also
really loved to drive. He wasa very kind young man. His family
feels that his kindness might have beena contributing factor to his murder. Drey

(19:59):
lived his mom in Brooklyn, andshe last saw Dre on February sixth.
He was leaving home for one ofhis jobs. This was at the Buggy
Car rentals. She texted with himlater in the day and she gave him
permission to use her car, aCherokee, that evening. When Dre got
off of work, he went homeand he took his mom's car out around

(20:21):
five forty five pm. But henever returned home that night. That was
not Andrey's character at all. Hismom filed a missing person's report when she
couldn't contact him that night. Thefollowing day, on February seventh, his
mother's car was found abandoned and burntclose to their home. This was only

(20:42):
a few minutes away in Flatbush,Brooklyn. Drey's body was discovered a little
further away, laying across some railroadtracks near Nostrand Avenue. The medical examiner
said Dre had died from a gunshotwound to his head. He also had
smoke annilation to his lungs and asignificant amount of burns all over his body.

(21:06):
Drey's mom fills her son was murderedfor being gay. She said it
was an intentional act, most likelyby someone who wasn't secure with their own
sexuality. Did Dre possibly meet upwith somebody on Grinder or another dating app?
I don't know. There have beenno arrests, no suspects named in
this case. So I'm here toask anyone out there who might be listening.

(21:33):
If you live in the Brooklyn areaor anywhere near there, and you
saw something out of the ordinary goingon February sixth or seventh, please call
the New York Police Department. Evenwhat you might think is the most insignificant
detail might mean justice for Dre.Preston power, Dre. I love your

(21:56):
Rainbow Warriors, you adder, andremember it's not a crime to be gay
unless you're a murderer.
