ב-2006, הושק לקהל הרחב שירות שנקרא פייסבוק 👈
משהו חדש כזה שקיבל את השם "רשת חברתית". סוג של הכלאה בין אתר "חבר'ה" שהיה נפוץ באותם הימים לאתר חדשות כמו Ynet. אפשר היה למצוא בפייסבוק הזה את החבר'ה מבית הספר, לצפות בעדכוני חדשות (News feed) ותוכן מפרי עטם של החברים.
עד אז "חברים" (friends) היו דבר אחר לגמרי…. אנשים שבאמת מכירים היטב בחיים האמיתים.
שנה לאחר ההשקה, ב-2007, פייסבוק החלה להציע למפרסמים אפשרות לטרגט לקוחות באמצעות הרשת שלה.
פייסבוק של היום (הכוללת בתוכה את WhatsApp ו-Instagram) היא מפלצת של מידע ופרסום. בסה"כ בת כ-15 ומתנהגת כמו טיינג'רית סוררת.
משהו רע עובר על הענקית הכחולה. הרשת מוצפת בתקופה האחרונה בפוסטים נואשים של בעלי עסקים ומפרסמים לגבי חשבונות פרסום בפייסבוק ואינסטגרם שללא התראה פשוט נחסמו או נסגרו לצמיתות, בתואנת שווא בד"כ של הפרת מדיניות ותנאי השימוש. במקרים רבים תוך כדי שקמפיינים "באוויר".
