If you grew up in Massachusetts in the 70s and 80s, you likely heard the name Tip O’Neil. A legendary figure in American politics, O’Neil served as the 47th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1987. Among his most famous sayings was, “All politics is local,” a phrase that captured the essence of addressing the unique concerns of individual communities.

In this episode of "QA in a Box," we explore the Quality Assurance equivalent of that wisdom: “All quality is contextual.”

Quality Assurance isn’t a one-size-fits-all discipline. Just as politics must adapt to the needs of each locality, QA processes, tests, and standards must align with the specific context of the project, application, or business it serves. What works in one setting may not deliver the same results in another—and that’s what makes QA both an art and a science.
