"People think that Play is the opposite of work. It's not. Play is the opposite of DEPRESSION." -Your Brain on Art (book)

Welcome to DAY NINETEEN of our new 30-day COMMUNITY PROJECT where we make something with our hands every day in order to improve our mental health. We all realize that creativity heals...it's time to put that knowledge into action.

These episodes will exist here, marked with the days numbered, in order for you to follow along at any speed that you like. Miss a day? Doesn't matter. Just pick up right where you left off and keep making things. These episodes will give us all some accountability, but if you need more, pair up with a partner. It really does help!

Join our creative community by making something today, whether it's for five minutes or several hours—your brain will thank you. Let's do this thing together and turn all of this sh*t into something beautiful!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
I don't think existence wants you to be
serious.
I have not seen a serious tree.
I have not seen a serious bird.
I have not seen a serioussunrise.
I have never seen a seriousstarry night.
It seems they are all laughingin their own ways, dancing in

(00:21):
their own ways, dancing in theirown ways.
We may not understand it, butthere is a subtle feeling that
the whole existence is acelebration.
And that's by Osho.
I chose this quote today forvery obvious reasons, but also
because I am so tired of hearingmyself be so serious on this

(00:47):
podcast.
I'm so tired of it becauseusually when I have guests, you
know, there's a mixture ofeverything, and now that I've
been on my own trying to getthrough this crazy time in life,
I have just felt so damnserious and it's about time to
take a little break from all thehat and just focus on something

(01:09):
different.
No doubt it takes some effortto not be serious right now in
life, but I don't know about you.
I'm ready to put that effort in.
It's time to really focus onsome play.
I was listening to the authorsof your Brain on Art and they
said people think that play isthe opposite of work.

(01:33):
It's not.
Play is the opposite ofdepression.
We can play by going out withfriends, having a date night,
playing with our children.
Friends having a date night, playing with our children,
having a little dance party, playing with, maybe, some paints
, making some art in a playfulway, with some music on.

(02:00):
One very, very loose definitionof play is doing something
different than you do every day, without any pre-described
outcome.
Just get out there and just letloose.
The longer amount of time thatyou can carve out for this, the
better, because you can actuallyget into a state of flow, and
when you get into that state offlow, you forget what's going on
around you.
Flow is so important.

(02:21):
It's really difficult toachieve flow if you've only
carved out 20 minutes foryourself, but if that's all
you've got, do it, turn themusic on, set the intention to
just play and give yourself asmuch time as you can to not be
serious.
This one is short and sweettoday, and I'm ending this with

(02:45):
one more quote this is the realsecret of life to be completely
engaged with what you are doingin the here and now and, instead
of calling it work, realize itis play by Alan W Watts.
Find some playtime today anduntil we meet again, stay
curious.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
