Speaker 1 (00:07):
Hello James.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
McGurrard.
Andy Gaunt, how are you?
I'm good and I have to say, ifyou just pause for one moment,
you may hear my son in the nextroom playing his saxophone.
Very professional setup we havehere at Kerbin Canyon.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
That's alright.
that's alright, Hang on, if youcan just wait one second.
Yeah, you can hear me screamingout for coffee.
I have not yet had any coffeethis morning.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Really not from your Mr Fusion coffee maker thing
that you use Mr Coffee.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
No, you know, i promised I would not talk about
how early it is this morning, but guess this, it's now, so
we're late.
Right, we're a little bit laterecording this morning.
For the last half an hour myalarm's been going off and I've
been putting it on snooze.
I completely forgot what wewere doing.
I never said this morning Thealarm's going off and I'm like

(01:01):
what the fuck?
Why is my alarm going?

Speaker 2 (01:03):
off?
Why am I getting up, would youknow?
it's funny because I got thetext from you and I was Kath and
I were sitting there watchingTV and I was quite enjoying it.
I was heavily engrossed.
And I get this text from youand I was like oh damn it.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Welcome to Carbon Canyon.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
So how has the week been?
I've had so many people reachout to me after last week and
after our last episode, justblown away by what you and
Ruthie have done.
How's it been?
How's it been?
For those who haven't tuned in,maybe just give us some Philips

(02:05):
in again.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Yeah, so we've had a Ukrainian family, the Philips,
staying with us for a week nowand we've sponsored their visa.
They escaped the war zone andit's been great, absolutely
lovely family.
Their little girl is the sameage as my little girl, gracie,

(02:26):
basically.
So Gracie's got a new bestfriend.
They're running around, she'sbabbling in English, which is
not English, and the other one'sbabbling in Ukrainian, which is
not Ukrainian.
So they're fast friends.
But it's been awesome.
Google Translate on the iPhoneis just absolutely incredible.

(02:46):
You can sit there having a fullblown conversation in each
other's language and just get on.
It's incredible, but it'sreally cool.
It's absolutely really cool.
The guy's really really nice.
Former parts manager of PortiaKeeve.
It's just a little odd, i guess, but it's just so nice to be

(03:10):
helping these guys find theirfees, and he's been also helping
me out in the garage as well.
So it's like You see, like sayno you don't use that part.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Don't use that part here.
What you want is part number.
Blah, blah, blah, blah blah.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Oh, exactly, he's already given me loads of advice
about my cayenne, about all thethings that are wrong with it
that I need to fix, one of thembeing the transfer case, which
is almost out of warranty.
I didn't know this.
It's a 2014 cayenne.
There is still extendedwarranty available from Portia
for like six months for thetransfer case, so I need to get

(03:48):
that.
It's amazing, but, yeah, it'sawesome.
He's awesome, we're having alot of fun, we're getting him
set up here And, yeah, it's niceto have another portion in the
house.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yeah, it's incredible And again, like I said, i've
had so much feedback from people.
I know people reaching out onInstagram just saying what an
incredible thing it is you andRuthie have done So.
Hats off to you again, myfriend What's new with you,
Elvis.
What, what, what.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
I'm just constantly amazed at how perfect, perfectly
formed your quiffers.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Oh, i do go on.
Thanks, james.
Thanks.
I hope you'd notice I wanted tomake an effort for you tonight.
So, look, I feel like I startevery one of these conversations
the same way at the moment AndI'm probably very much creating
the impression that all myfriends do is buy new Porsches.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Right Like literally.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Choco Blocko, rocco Flokko.
Who was it this week that gotthemselves a new Porsche?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
It was no one whose name ends with any sort of O
sound, My good buddy Irwin.
But you're going to.
I think I've sent.
You've seen this car.
Right, I've sent you picturesof this car.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
This is the one.
Wait a minute, wait a minute.
Is this the mystery car that?
so I've got three or fourphotos of this absolutely
gorgeous, like graphite bluishsort of car in my photos.
I don't know who sent it to me,but I'm sitting there thinking
that's a nice car.
Who sent me that?

Speaker 2 (05:26):
What do you mean?
you don't know who sent it.
I sent it Like.
How do you not know that?

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Well, i must have saved them from a conversation,
you know.
so, like at the moment, likeliterally last night, i was in
front of the TV looking throughmy photos and it's like Grace,
luke, adam Bluey, bluey, bluey, bluey, bluey.
Amazing new car, amazing newcar porn Bluey, bluey, bluey.
I was like I have no idea,Absolutely no idea.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
You're thinking well, hang on.
Was this from somebody'sMySpace page that I was looking
at last week?

Speaker 1 (06:02):
So good old Irwin.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, irwin bought himself a 991.2 GTS in graphite
blue.
It is Goddamn, oh man, what acolor, what a car It is.
It's spectacular.
But I have to tell you youmight relate to this because us

(06:25):
Porsche people were kind of nuts, right.
So Irwin was trying to decidebetween two cars.
He was and I hope he doesn'tmind me going into this in some
depth, but, but perhaps some ofour listeners will relate to
this.
So he was.
He was trying to decide betweentwo cars a GT silver GTS and

(06:48):
this graphite blue GTS.
Now, the truth is, he preferredthe graphite blue color.
However, it had one fatal flaw,or potentially fatal flaw, and
that was that it has the rearwiper.
Oh what a loser.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
What a loser.
Oh, Irwin, I don't know.
you may book, Come on.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
So so Irwin and I.
Irwin messaged me one day andsaid Hey, have you got five
minutes for a conversation?
I said Yeah, i've got fiveminutes for a conversation.
I had just injured my back So Ihad to lie on the floor for an
entire day.
So I had no one cares.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
I had plenty of time for a conversation Stretch no
one cares.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Can I just tell a story Like what is that too hard
?
I know you haven't had coffeeyet and you kind of grumpy and
your hair looks ridiculous, butall right, all right.
So Irwin and I have aconversation for like an hour
and a quarter trying to decidewhich way to go.
Is the, is the rear wiper thatmuch of an issue or not?

(07:55):
And we finished thisconversation, i don't think,
with any more clarity than westarted it, right, just more
confused, if anything there was.
There was a point in theconversation where I said Irwin,
i've got it, it's the GT silver, that is the way you have to go
, i'm convinced of it.
There's.
There can be no more discussion.

(08:16):
And that was at about 45minutes, at around 58 minutes,
irwin, it's absolutely thegraphite book.
It just.
It was just this sea soaringaffair of just ridiculousness.
So at the end of theconversation I left Irwin to
then call Alan and have asimilar length conversation
about the same issue and raisedit with with Kath.

(08:41):
I thought Kath is my kind of ofcourse she's my North Star when
it comes to all things designright.
So I send I send Irwin amessage after the conversation
with Kath and I'll read it toyou.
I said okay.
Another perspective spoke toKath about the two cars in
question and showed her thephotos.
Kath loves cars.

(09:02):
She loves simplicity and designand hates anything superfluous
that takes away from something'sbeauty.
Less is more in all things.
She doesn't like complicationand, furthermore, in modern cars
she doesn't like colors allthat much.
So obviously you know which carshe preferred the graphite blue
In her words.
Silver.
911s are everywhere.
The graphite blue looks uniquebut subtle, and you two idiots

(09:24):
need your head red If you thinkthe rear wiper is such a problem
.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
You know that's so funny.
That's so funny because I wasdesperately trying not to chime
in during that story, but I'llsay it now.
Don't you just hate Porschepeople?
Who sits around talking about afucking rear windscreen wiper
for an hour?
It's not that big a deal, jesus.
What do you guys do?
Do you have nothing better todo than to sit around and like

(09:55):
should I spend $100,000 overhere or over there?
Well, i don't know, it's got arear wiper, good Jesus.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I know, and believe me, having this conversation
with you, who's busy saving theworld?
Yes, it's kind of absolutelyridiculous.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Anyway, anyway, so.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Earl and the very next day, on the back of said
message, committed to thegraphite blue one, and I'm just
going to say it here because Ihaven't said it to his face.
I think he made the wrong call.
It's not a great color.
No, i'm kidding.
I'm kidding, i'm kidding.
It looks amazing, it's such agreat looking car, and he drove

(10:33):
it back from Sydney over twodays.
I would have preferred him tohave taken more twisty roads,
per my recommendation, but Still, amazing car, amazing car.
Just stop for him.
So when congrats might.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
He sounds like a go getter.
He sounds like he sounds like abit of a go getter.
You know straightest distance ato b.
Spend an hour trying to figureout whether or not you want to
look.
If you don't like the rearwiper, just double hand it, yank
it, it'll be off.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
What, you know what, because both of us had done some
research on this it's actuallyit can't, unlike some models,
you can't really take it off and991.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Really yeah, not it's not.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Do you know what, if anyone could, you could.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
I was gonna say, look it, anything's possible in the
auto manager garage you get itoff.
It might not be pretty, but youwon't have to sit around
bitching about it with yourmates for a couple of hours.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
I do you know what, like I say I was, i was laid out
on the floor.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
to me, it was the best conversation, the best part
of my day, lay down, like laidout on the floor, with your top
off, teasing your nipples everytime somebody said the word
Porsche.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
I wouldn't.
I wouldn't have thought itwould elicit that kind of
response.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
I don't know where my mind went, but just don't ever
tell me you were laid out on thefloor again, for God's sake.
Again, it's pre coffee, it'spre coffee.
I will say this When, as you'redriving around twisties,
avoiding those kangaroos and,you know, whatever else the
Australian outback throws at you, i honestly, genuinely hope
that you can see that rewiperout of your, your women's screen

(12:09):
.
I just hope you can.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
You're a good bloke so with respect to the real why
I'm removing it, does it doesbring me to you know how people
do butch and 991s.
You just done a video ofinstalling.
Can't play in a GT3.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Nice segue, nice how'd you like that?

Speaker 2 (12:29):
how'd you like that?

Speaker 1 (12:30):
dude, that is just.
That's a work of art.
My friends, it's a work of art.
You bring your 911 or whateverPorsche it is to the auto
manager garage.
A few hours later, you've got aseamless installation of apple
car play into your former.
Crappy, terrible.
Yeah, what's going on?
just?
First of all, we're talkingabout being laid out.

(12:51):
Now you take your clothes offeverybody.
I'm sitting there looking atAndy on FaceTime.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Keep your pants on.
Just take my jumper.
I'm wearing a T shirt.
You, you are weird today.
There is something weird goingon.
Next time you need your MrFusion coffee before we, before
we have this conversation, soafter, i gotta be honest about
the car play thing real quick, because I watched it and it's

(13:20):
there's a lot to do.
It's it's not an insignificantundertaking.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
No, it's not, it's, it's definitely, but fiddly.
You know you gotta take thehead.
You know you gotta crack openthat.
You know you gotta run somewires.
I gotta say I have successfullytalked dozens of people through
the job, you know, via email, instant message, and you know
video, video chat.
There are loads of people thatfollow my DIY video, and I've

(13:45):
done it successfully themselves.
But you're right, it's not likeYou get yourself a dongle and
you plug it in and you just, youknow, pop it in your arm rest.
Having said that, though, ifyou have Factory car play but
you want it to be wireless, thatis super easy.
You just plug in a little USBdongle and you're away, and it's
a lot cheaper as well.
But you know, for me it's a funjob to get my hands on a 9-11

(14:10):
for a few hours and pull itapart and put it back together
again.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
I have six words.
did you get to drive it?

Speaker 1 (14:18):
I was counting those out because I didn't think you
were smart enough to put thattogether.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
No, not this time.
Not this time, i mean, unlessyou can't, you know, firing it
up, driving it out of the garage, reversing it back so I had
some more rooms, getting it outof it.
No, i didn't this time.
This was just a quick, rapidjob.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
And you hit 9000 RPM, while reversing it out of the
garage, of course yeah, yeah,yeah.
Hey.
so I should mention we've gotwe've actually got, we've got a
great show for you today.
We're gonna.
we're gonna talk about the,we're gonna talk about the
mission X, we're gonna talkabout Lamont, we're gonna talk
about the 75 years celebration, planning for trips, car updates.

(15:04):
it's gonna be a ripping episode, yeah, what so?
yeah, i mean where, how longare we into this?

Speaker 1 (15:09):
And I don't know.
It feels like.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
It feels like we've been talking for 15 minutes in
and I've just done the intro.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Let's move this along .
Hey, so mission X.
good Jesus, how awesome is thatcar.
It looks incredible.
You're not so convinced?
I can see it in your face.
Oh, here we go.
Go on, then go on.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Now, what's?
tell me your view.
I mean, you said it's awesome,let's, let's hear it.
What?
let me give me your opinionbefore I give you my, before I
give you the correct opinion.
Look at it.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Look at it, it's awesome.
Now, look, that might be veryHomer Simpson of me And I'm
hoping that it's got an extrabubble on the back and extra cup
holders.
but Dude, it looks wicked.
Yeah, it looks absolutelywicked.
I couldn't give a toss about.
you know how fast it is andwhat it might set up, and blah,

(16:03):
blah, blah.
it's cool looking car.
All right, give me theprofessional lowdown.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Okay, so there's a couple of things here To me.
I want to be really excitedabout this car.
I really do.
I really do, and if I meanfirst of all, the phrase that
really gets me is right at theend of the article on the

(16:27):
Porsche newsroom, which says ifit goes into production.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Oh, just off that.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
It goes into production.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
So you actually read the article, dude, just look at
the pictures.
It's awesome.
I'm gonna get it All right, sothis one potentially might not
go into production.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Let's say I skimmed, all right, no, no, i did read it
.
I did read it, and so the ideais that this will absolutely be
the fastest car around theNurburgring Norschleife, which,
of course, is the closest thingwe have to some sort of
objective, empirical evidence ofa performance threshold against

(17:08):
which no other car can bemeasured.
So I get that.
I think that's great, and Iremember when Lamborghini took
the record that the GT2 RS hadset, i was kind of shitty about
that.
I want Porsche to have thattitle I do, i really do.
So, from that perspective, greatThe fact that it's all electric

(17:30):
.
I'm okay with that, because Ithink in this day and age, if
you are going to release ahypercar and it have an internal
combustion engine and not be asquick as an electric car, that
just you're missing the point.
You have to, unfortunately orfortunately, depending on your

(17:50):
viewpoint it has to deliver alevel of performance that
exceeds what you can get in aplaid Tesla.
So you have to go all electric.
So I get that too.
I get that too, but I justdon't really care.
And do you know why I don'tcare?

Speaker 1 (18:17):
I can see the headline.
I can see the headline now, theMission X.
I just don't really care.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Well, okay.
So do you know what?
Do you know why, if you look atPorsche's halo cars through the
years, let's go 959.
The 959 just a technologicaltour de force when it was
released.
And that car, when you look atit, bears resemblance to the

(18:45):
current day 9-11 in thatparticular moment.
You can see its underpinnings, you can see it's based on it The
GT1.
Same thing.
You can see the 996 in theheadlights.
You can connect those dots.
Same with the Carrera GT Andeven same with the 918 Spyder.

(19:07):
There is a design language, aPorsche design language, that
connects the dots with thosecars and makes them feel
unmistakably Porsche.
This car, other than the newlyupdated Christ on the front of
it, could be from anyone.

(19:29):
It could be from anymanufacturer.
It doesn't look.
It looks like a prototypehypercar, a Le Mans car.
I get that, but it doesn't looklike a Porsche.
It doesn't.
Yeah, yeah, you can see thefront guards, as I look at it,
that you know there's a let'scall it a fleeting reference to

(19:54):
the original 9-11, torpedo tubesor whatever you want to call
them, but I don't know.
Yeah, i see that It's reallycool.
I don't dislike it, but itcould be a Remak, it could be a
Koenigsegg, it could come fromanyone.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
It's funny you say that actually, because I nearly
said the same thing for a goodreason, in that it could look
like any other car, like itcould look like a Lambo, it
could look like you know, all ofthe other hypercars out there,
but that's actually not a goodthing the way you just described
it.
Yeah, so well done, mate.
You've just completely reignedon that parade.

(20:36):
I'm now like Porsche.
What are you thinking?
Just forget it.
Mission X, you know, forget it.
I want to see mission Y.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Look, here's the thing, right.
Do I want them?
Do I hope they make it?
Sure, i do, because you know, don't forget, this is the
concept car version.
You know, i'm not the only onewho's voice in this opinion.
There's plenty of it on socialmedia.
I'm sure they'll find a way to,to bring it in.
And I know that with thoseheadlights they're actually

(21:07):
saying that it references the, the, the Lamont hypercar and the
like.
So there is a A scaric ofPorsche design language in there
and if it does go intoproduction.
I expect that that perhaps theywill just work that a little bit
harder.
And do I want them to have thatnorth life of time?

(21:27):
yeah course I do.
Do I want them to have a halohypercar?
yeah for sure.
I just wanted to feel morePorsche.
Yeah, yeah, alright alright, fair enough, still cool.
I like your post on Instagram.
Is this is the Georgia lookingfor?

Speaker 1 (21:47):
It's interesting thinking about concept car and
ultimately, what it could looklike in production, because I
got super excited when missionwas announced, which ultimately
became the Right.
have you actually put those twodesigns next to each other?
to look at the time next tomission because of not it's.

(22:08):
it's kind of like a Pinterestfail moment, you know, when you
see that on the left hand side, the amazing cupcakes that some
professional baker is made, andthen the slop that's on the
plate that you created, becausethe mission got me really
excited.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
oh yeah, i'm just looking at it.
I'm just looking at you are youokay?
yeah, i can see it.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
So the mission was like it got me super excited and
then, ultimately, when the whenthe time came out, i was like,
yeah, looks pretty good, hang on, and I put them side by side.
What fully short ofexpectations based on what
mission originally was becausethe mission is got super flat
archers.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
It looks, it looks insane and actually do you know
what those?
those kind of teardropheadlights of the time?
I would have thought that mighthave been where we landed on
the new hypercar right like thatthat sort of becoming the new
design language for Porsche.
I thought they might have endedup there and they have, but

(23:05):
they've turned them obviously 90degrees.
But yeah, you're right.
And then what's the?
What's the other one, the otherall electric race car that we
spoke about, mission, oh yeahyeah, yeah, mission, yeah, i
remember, yeah, i think it wasmission.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Yeah, maybe mission F .

Speaker 2 (23:25):
No, i don't think it was.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
What's that in my head?
look, yeah, it looked like aCayman, the red and white one,
that's right, that's right yeah, that was announced like a year
ago and that was going to be thefuture of.
Of racing the future ofsomething, yeah, future racing,
yeah, yeah, yeah where's thatPorsche?
do you think we're in the goldenyears of Porsche right now?
You know and this sort of likeleads on to the conversation

(23:49):
about seventy five yearanniversary because, you know,
between All the differentvariants we've been getting of
the special models, the nine, eleven we've been getting things
like the car.
Now the Cayman is going allelectric.
We've got this hypercar.
You know all these.
It seems like every weekPorsche announcing something

(24:10):
dope.
you know, here's anotherawesome thing that you can't
afford, but it's absolutelyamazing.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
I feel like they're going nuts yeah, you know we get
in desensitized maybe on onehand, i think there's.
I think there's truth in thatright.
I think I love that they arejust continually looking to
innovate and evolve and bringnew and exciting things, trying
to find a way to make Evie'sexciting and have that sports

(24:38):
car soul.
I think that's terrific.
I think the fact that they willdo things like the car is is a
game, just testament to theirwillingness to try things that
You know on paper may notnecessarily present the best
business case, and even thatthey still making cars like the
Carrera T, you know, lower spec, driver focused nine, eleven,

(25:03):
there's.
There is a hell of a lot to beexcited about in the world of
Porsche.
So so, yes, on that, from thatperspective, i think so I don't.
I don't romanticize the past, and a lot of people you know
always talk about, like theNordy's, the two thousand two
thousand ten being this So peakcar era.
I can, i can understand that toa degree.

(25:27):
I look back just a little wayin in in Porsche's history,
though, and believe that thatThe teens I think the teens were
the really the real sweet spotfor Porsche in.
In my view, a lot of amazingthings came out in that time
still driver focused cars.

(25:48):
But you know, let's see if inthree years let's see what we're
talking about, because in threeyears will probably be looking
at, looking back at that firstgen, nine, nine, two, talking
about how great it was and howsmall it is.
Yes, is Porsche present theirfirst flying car yeah, yeah,
with the Mr Fusion, mr Fusiongenerator on the back.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
Exactly, i see I got that reference.
Now so speak, speak in aPorsche seventy five years
celebration.
I for one Did absolutelynothing, apart from, you know,
see the social media feed.
I had loads of friends thatwere down at the local dealer
who was putting on a party youknow, the local Porsche club of

(26:33):
America.
Guys went out and got drunk anddid shots.
I don't know whatever they did,but it was.
It was something to do withseventy five years.
I myself did Zero.
How about you could self?

Speaker 2 (26:44):
one of us, one of us committed to doing some research
, actually actually mate, if I,if I'm honest, i think it would
have passed me by completely aswell.
and because it's funny, right, because Porsche Australia always
shares video content on theirsocials from the events that

(27:05):
they have and, dude, i look atthis content and I look at the
people who are there.
I could not be further removedfrom That group if I tried it.
just every hot socialite andinfluence and just It bears no

(27:25):
resemblance to me.
I don't, i don't yeah yeah, idon't mix with that cohort, not
that I have anything againstpeople like that, i'm just more
saying that there's a, i guess,so show economic factor that
probably comes into an hour.
so I was I'd sort of forgottenabout it and then made of

(27:46):
mindset.
I'm thinking about going to PCMPorsche center Melbourne today
for the seventy five year thingand I thought I had nothing on.
so I said, yeah, i'll come andmeet you down there, was really
glad I did because because whatthey did was they cleared out
the dealership of you know, their regular cars, the, the

(28:07):
kinds of And McCann's and.
SUVs basically, and they hadthis incredible mix.
It's not a big dealer, certainly on on on a global,
global stage, but it's.
It's certainly big enough.
And they had.
What did they have in there?
they had The nine thirty five, the updated nine thirty five

(28:30):
from twenty nineteen.
I guess that was one of those.
They had a seventy three RS,light weight They had.
They had a nine one dot twospeedster in a right to him
green.
Just that car, for me, wasabsolute highlight.
They had a nine five nine.

(28:53):
They had a mint GT four RS.
They had a an acid green GT twoRS.
They had some yeah, theyactually rolled out some heavy
hitters and then they had theworkshop open as well.
And the other thing, they had ablack career GT.
Every career GT I've ever seenin Australia has been silver.

(29:16):
Career GT in black is Oh man, that is just a new dream car for
me.
I don't think I've ever seenone of those.
No, neither It was the firsttime I'd seen one, And my buddy,
Anthony and I were there and wedid the old.
Which one would you take?
You know what's the car youtake Of course That old exercise

(29:38):
.
And he was hot on the GT4 RS inmint green.
I said and this is an oddchoice for me I said I'd take
the Speedster Because as much asI don't necessarily love a soft
top, a Speedster I do love, andthis car in this color was just
, it was the most perfect spec.
But then on the way out we bothlooked at the black Carrera GT

(30:02):
and said, yeah, no, i'd take theCarrera GT.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Yeah, I'm looking at it now.
It's silly, It just it lookslike a different car than the
silver one.
It actually does, doesn't it?

Speaker 2 (30:12):
No, no, it really does, i agree, i agree.
And they had the workshop openand then out the back near the
workshop they had this littleTransformers display where they
had clearly a customers 964silver one that they'd put all
the decals and everything on tomatch the 964 from the upcoming

(30:33):
Transformers movie.
So that was.
That was pretty cool.
That was in fact that wasreally cool.
So it was good There was andthere was there was a DJ there
and then Tag Heuer had a, had akind of a pop up booth there as
well And there was finger foodcoming around.
It was.
Yeah, it was a pretty coolevent.
I'm sure the night before therewas a Gala black tie event to

(30:56):
which I was sadly uninvitedwhere?
where all the beautiful peoplewere.
But I was actually really gladI went along, I think.
I think they put on a reallygood event And then actually the
other thing they did was theyhad their various heads of
department, motorsport and thelike, doing little short
presentations on on each of thecars And it wasn't.

(31:19):
It didn't feel overcooked, Itdidn't feel like they spoke
forever and crapped on.
It was yeah, it was, it was.
It was well structured.
I mean, I only stuck around foran hour maybe, But it was good.
Bumped into some people, I knewit was great.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Awesome.
That sounds like a lot of fun.
I'm glad I didn't go, yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
I'm glad I did, because otherwise this would
have been the shortest episodeever.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
Absolutely.
Hey, so is this the?
is this the dealership that youwent to try and get a marketing
car from?
and they were like yeah, let'scheck out Lastrasp.
Yeah, come back when you've gotmaybe another 990,000
subscribers.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
Well, so it is.
It is the home of PorscheAustralia, so so they.
I think they operate out of thesame building, if I'm not
mistaken.
Someone make her.
And yes, i was told I needed100,000 subscribers before they
would give me a press car.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
Oh, 100,000 subscribers.
So that's, that's not likecompletely unrealistic Andy, if
you put, you know, look, if you,if you continue with your.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
If I quit my job and leave my family annual video.
I did say to her I said I saidChris Harris doesn't even have
100,000 subscribers.
She probably doesn't know whoChris Harris is, but yeah, no,
she, she, she.
She wasn't.

(32:51):
She wasn't impressed with my,my approach.
So do you know what, though, idid see they've got that they
had a 992 GTS and you can rentit for a day.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
Oh, that's cool Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
It's like 9, 911 dollars for the day.
And I don't know what.
I don't know what sort ofkilometer limits you have on it.
But I thought maybe I rent thatfor the day and make a video
about it.
And I thought what am I talkingabout?
I don't spend that kind ofmoney to rent a car to make a
video that seven people willwatch.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
I was going to say to get the 70 cents from from
YouTube back for it.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
I don't, I don't even monetize my videos.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
So there you go.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Yeah, so it's the 75th year.
for Porsche.
It is also the 100th year ofthe 24 hours of Le Mans.
I'm sure you got right into it.
Spend a whole weekend.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Oh, i knew that.
Yeah, yeah, google Yeah.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
What did you think of the result?

Speaker 1 (34:07):
Yeah, it was superb, it was fantastic, it was.
It was on Sunday, june 11th2023.
Don't try and trick me likethat, andy Gordes.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
You could have just you could have just winged it.
That was anyway.
Well, i mean, it was Porschedidn't exactly have the best day
out to be fair, but but I think, hopefully, hopefully next year
they might.
I'll tell you what's going tobe interesting is Michael

(34:46):
Fassbender from Road to Le Mansseries on YouTube.
Famous actor Was that Le Mansagain this year And and he bind
it again.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
So Was that?
was that the show that wasdirected by Dennis Villeneuve?
That's, that's actually.
that's possible, it's possible.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
It is Or at least he didn't say Jack Villeneuve, no,
but we've talked about it before.
It's the Porsche, porsche basedseries where he's you know he's
doing all of these races, yeah, and the GT3 series, you know,
kind of building up to racing LeMans.
It's incredible and and hatsoff to him.
I think it's a massiveundertaking and really, to me,

(35:33):
illustrates that all thetraining, all the commitment in
the world is really importantbut there's still raw talent and
racecraft that is really hardto manufacture.
And, yeah, i felt bad for himbecause he hit the wall later on
in the piece, which was adisappointing outcome.

(35:55):
I'm just bringing something upbecause my show notes weren't
all that good.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
Driving around in circles for 24 hours, you're
gonna drive into a wall.
basically, i mean, it'sprobability.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
It's not Nazca mate.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Well, at least with Nazca you can just set cruise
control and just angle it.
You just keep yand in oneposition.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
That's all.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
I do.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Look, i mean it was it's.
I'm sure they'd be disappointedbecause in the hypercar
category the highest finishingPorsche was the Penske Penske
Motorsport Porsche which came inninth.
I don't think there's been ahuge amount of development in
that car.
I think actually the big resultof the day was actually in the

(36:48):
LMGTE class where the Iron Damesin their 911 RSR which is an
all women team that actuallycame fourth and they were
battling for the lead for a goodlong while and brought it home
fourth, and I think weredisappointed with that result
and very much expected a podium.
So to hats off to them.

(37:08):
They really waived the Porscheflag in fine style.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Could you imagine just rocking up to your local
cars and coffee in that PenskeMotorsport car?
I mean, you'd be the tits forthe day.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Yeah, but you know what that would be someone who
rocked up in like a, maybe justlike a DeLorean or a Hugo or a
or some other weird little caror Hugo, sorry, some other weird
little car would still beat you.
Yeah, it's still beat me.
I always talk about like thosecars and coffee.

(37:42):
A while ago and this duderocked up in a uni mug and it's
like, yeah, that guy, he woncars and coffee that day.
Yeah, he won it.
And there's this dude actuallywho always rocks up in this
little.
I think it's a Mazda.
It's tiny, like tiny, withgullwing doors on it.
I don't know what.
I can remember what it's calledit never.

(38:03):
It was never actuallyofficially released in Australia
, but it's this tiny littlething and every time there's a
car and coffee in, that guyrocks up, he wins, he wins.
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
I don't know.
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
So bluey the stripe, where are we at?
are we committed?

Speaker 1 (38:21):
We are committed to the stripe absolutely,
especially considering the 996club sport classic just sold
auction for one point twomillion dollars and I'm just
going to say it's stolen mydesign, it's stolen my idea.
So if I can find some at leastthings that my car looks

(38:45):
anything like the club sportclassic and I can auction that
thing off for half a milliondollars, yeah, baby, i'm in.
I'm in like slim.
I'm loving it actually and I'vehad a lot of great feedback on
it, and the only person so farwho seems to really dislike the
stripes is Ruthie.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Actually this do you and Ruth.
does Ruthie come in the carmuch?

Speaker 1 (39:09):
No, not really, dude.
We hardly ever get a chance togo out together, to be honest,
with three kids.
When we do get a date night,it's like you know, i'm thinking
, oh yeah, we're going to takethe 911, we're going to go
downtown Minneapolis, we'regoing to, you know, hit up a
nice restaurant that we haven'tbeen to for a while.

(39:30):
And then, when date nightactually happens, it's like can
I be asked to get out of myhoodie and shorts and let's just
take the Cayenne?
and we end up going to aChipotle about three blocks away
, just in case the baby sits.
A phone.
You know Adam's beating upGracie, or something like that.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
I mean, there it is.
Don't, don't ever let anyonesay you're not a romantic.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
Oh my god, absolutely , yeah, chipotle.
Followed by a quick walk aroundtarget, where most of the time
I just stay in the Cayenne andwatch YouTube videos.
She goes and spends $150 onshit we don't need.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
Oh man.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
How about?
how about that for a dose ofreality?

Speaker 2 (40:16):
It's.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
Anyway, look, i want to talk about video the week,
because for once I have watchedthe video the week at least, at
least I think I have, becauseyou sent me a couple of videos
this week.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Do you know the best part of this For once?
you've watched it for once.
I don't know what it is.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
No way are you kidding me.
Which one was it?
It was the one about the guydoing the road trip from
Helsinki across Scando somewhereto Nord Cap.
He's in a classic Porsche, it'scalled headlights north and
it's just beautiful.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
Oh my god, yes, yes, yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
You sent it to me, son.
I'm expecting you did see it,but I don't know how we shot it.
Well, i guess I can kind of tryand figure it out.
But It's great, he's anabsolutely amazing job and it
just It almost looks like a 70skind of spy thriller, shot today
in a classic Porsche out in thewilderness.

(41:25):
Just you know, man and machine, epic, epic shots of rivers and
fords and bridges, and I thinkhe's even camping at one point
in the video, if I remember.
Yeah, he is.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
Yeah, he is.
Yeah, it looks like what Iimagine I want to do in my car
and probably never will, buthe's in a 912, i'm pretty sure.
And yeah, he's just out in thewilderness.
he ends up at some log cabin andjust gets in this like canoe
and just rose out into themiddle of this lake and then

(42:00):
just comes back and it lookslike it is Like the coldest
place on earth and he justlights this fire outside and you
just look at it and think, yep,i want to be doing exactly what
he's doing, and they've donesuch a great job of capturing
the solitude of it, thepeacefulness of it, kind of

(42:23):
Contrasting against this greatold car, and they run into some
mechanicals and stuff like that, but nothing too dramatic.
Sometimes I like a film that isall about performance and you
see a car being pushed to thelimit.
But sometimes there's somethingabout the idea of escapism When

(42:47):
it comes to these cars.
And whether we've done ajourney like that where we're
driving through Norway to seethe northern lights on our own
and camping and having littlefires on the roadside, or
whether it's doing a rally withfriends, i think we can all
relate to that road tripadventure in your car.
Yeah, kind of idea, you know, and it's something we all aspire

(43:10):
to.

Speaker 1 (43:11):
Absolutely, and you know just aesthetically the way
it starts off in black and white, yeah.
And then he gets off the boatsand I think one of the best
shots of the entire video iswhen the headlights just sort of
fire up on the 9-11.
As the light is coming up outof the, it looks like the boat
is docking or what have you.

(43:31):
Anyway, that's just incredible,yeah.
I mean, did he shoot that alone?
I don't think he did.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
No, he's got someone with him.
He's got someone with him.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
Yeah, yeah, just the drone photography, the way the
drone is moving when he'sdriving.
I mean that's not active trackand you can't.
No, absolutely not You can'twing that by yourself.
No, but it's funny.
I kept on watching it thinking, you know, at some point Chris
from Overcrest is just going topop up with his baseball cap,
like hey, i'm here too.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
But you're right, because it kind of has a game.
When you think about the way hetalks about travel and
adventure in his car, it It hasthat sort of that sort of feel
to it, right, like yeah, reallyjust putting yourself out there
and taking your car somewherespectacular where people would

(44:24):
think.
You know, i remember when we,when we had Chris on the pod and
you know he talked about the911 being the perfect tool for
this, for this task, you know, and I said to him well, isn't a
Subaru Forester a better toolfor this task?
because, objectively speaking, yes, of course it is.

(44:44):
But you know, his point of viewwas it's not just about having
the car that does it all withoutfuss.
Having a car where there's asense of adventure about it is
is part of it.
And actually I'm just I'm justwatching it now and I can
actually tell you he definitelyhas someone there with him
because there's a whole lot ofhandheld camera.

(45:07):
Yeah so unless he's got a reallylong arm, Yeah right, you're
right, you're right, yeah, it'sgorgeous but it is very romantic
feeling.
It's funny because we do videothe week all the time.
This is one where I watch itand I think I really want
everyone to see this one yeah, yeah because and I want you to
watch it and then go and driveyour car because it makes me

(45:30):
want to do that- more thandefinitely this is good, i
forgot about it.

Speaker 1 (45:34):
This is the type of video that I mean.
I have been playing on a loopwith some of my desk, got my my
laptop, got an iPad next to meand I've been pretty much
playing on a loop nonstop fordays.
But it's the type of thing youcould just put on in the
background, yeah, and watch itall day.
You know, are you cooking inthe kitchen or you know doing
whatever in the living room?
it's just yeah, it's epic, whata stunning video.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
Yeah, and actually I watched it with Kath and she.
She loved the car straight away, but also the footage and the
scenery.
And what was interesting wasthere's a section where he's
driving along next to a lakeabout halfway through the video
and there's two shots that justlook to me So reminiscent of one

(46:15):
of the roads I drove inTasmania.
Everything about it, justreally Tasmania.
So it got me, got me very, veryexcited for that trip as well.
Very nice, very nice yeah, yeah, when's, when's your trip.

Speaker 1 (46:31):
I'm about six weeks away from going to Taylor the
dragon, super excited about that.
so you know, it sort of Spurredme on to do a couple of little
jobs in blue this week.
so you know, i've done the oilchange, i've replaced the wiper
cowl, which was, you know, thatplastic trim underneath the,
underneath the wiper blades, which has been coming loose and

(46:52):
breaking, and Have you detailedthe interior, the car?
I've had a bit of time tomyself this week.
it's, it's nice, marvelous,it's really nice and it looks
like you have as well.
was I dreaming or did you sendme a photo of a clean and tidy
garage?
No, that wasn't you.
it wasn't you really.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
That was me.
that was me I saw.
you may remember, on the podAges ago, i said I was cleaning
up my garage and I think I, ithink I even made reference to a
fellow youtuber who we know hasa great, a great garage and I
said come at me.

(47:34):
And then Kath was cleaning outthe study and dumped everything
that she cleaned out of thestudy in the garage.
And I just 100%, and I just kindof lost momentum because I had
all this stuff.
I just couldn't get rid of it.
And so for the last 18 monthsmy garage has been terrible,
again terrible.

(47:54):
And so last weekend I just Irolled the roll, my big bin,
into the garage and just started, and it was really small.
At first I didn't really have aplan to do it all, but in the
end I just kept going and thething I realized was I had all
of this stuff that I needed tooffload, either take it to the

(48:18):
tip of the dump and or sell it,and I hate selling stuffs and I
had all of this when I used tobe a Mad King mountain biker.
I would just buy.
I had so many parts, man.
I really stacks and stacks.
So I took a photo of them all.
I was gonna put them on onmarketplace and then actually

(48:41):
called a buddy of mine I'm like, dude, i'm gonna put these on
marketplace Unless you want them.
And so he just came and tookthem all away and they were gone
.
And then I've been selling afew bits and pieces as well.
So that's all done and Now Imean everything's great.
Now I do need to get some kindof workbench and storage system

(49:03):
with with pegboard and all thatsort of stuff I really do need.
I need to paint it and I reallywant to paint the floor,
because the garage has got 16years of just shit all over the
walls.
All the stains on the on thefloor.
So I really I'd love to justreally finish it off now.

Speaker 1 (49:21):
I was just about to say, looking at this photo it's
a blank canvas man that youcould do magical things with
that floor.
You could, whether the tile orepoxy.
I gotta say you got a veryfancy garage door.
That's yeah it's not like theinside of garage doors are often
just like boring and crappy, but you got a fancy one.

Speaker 2 (49:43):
No, but you know, cuz , cuz, it's a, it's a.
That garage door is only noteven a year old, i wouldn't say.
And it's a sectional door.
It's beautiful out the front,it's, it's, it's, it's all
timber, it's lovely.
And what they usually do isjust paint the backside of it
black.
But when we, when we'revisiting them, they had this

(50:04):
white and I said, well, can wedo the white on the back?
and they said we don't usuallydo that and I said, but Could
you, cuz I wanted the reflection, i wanted the extra light in
the room.
Can you that off the car?
and they said, yeah, okay.
So yeah, it is, it's, it's.
It looks really good on theinside, like most, unlike most
garage doors.
Yeah, yeah, totally there's onlyone thing missing.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
The Porsche yeah yeah , like let's not reminisce on
the GT, for it's gone.

Speaker 2 (50:31):
I wasn't getting to talk to.
You know, i wasn't even gonnatalk about the GT, for I was
just gonna talk about littlegreen.
I had a, so I think I told you.
When I was selling the GT forthe day there, the guy came to
pick it up.
I was feeling reasonably lowand then I got a message saying
my my KW's had arrived in thecountry a week ahead of schedule
.
Right, this was Thursday, notjust gone, but the one before,

(50:56):
and so they will be in Melbourneby Tuesday.
Last week I'm like that's, i'mgonna have the car by Friday
afternoon.
Right now we're recording this.
On Monday night, my time, monday morning, your time.
Wednesday I call.
I messaged some like hey, havethey arrived yet?
no, not yet.
They are gonna call from nineorder on Thursday afternoon.

(51:18):
The shocks are still in Sydney.

Speaker 1 (51:22):
They never, oh no.

Speaker 2 (51:27):
For fuck sake.
Guys so, anyway, they were senton Friday.
No, they're sent Thursday, arrived their Friday.
So I want to say this week, iwant to say, i'm gonna have it
this week.

Speaker 1 (51:45):
Well, you know it's, so it's winter there, isn't it
for you guys down south?

Speaker 2 (51:48):
but we, but we drive.
Look, it's not.
There's no snow like we hadyesterday.
I would, i would have driventhe car all weekend.
All weekend, no, no doubt aboutit.

Speaker 1 (51:59):
So I was just trying to make you feel better.
But you know, if you don't wantto play that game, touch it.

Speaker 2 (52:04):
No, i want to wallow.
I want to wallow in my miseryif that's okay with you, andy
Gord's.

Speaker 1 (52:11):
There you go, all right so do we have anything for
our Porsche buddy segment thisweek, or whatever it's called?
Porsche global communityAwesomeness outreach dot com.

Speaker 2 (52:21):
Porsche pal, porsche pals.

Speaker 1 (52:24):
No, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
Yeah, all right, porsche pals can we just can we
stick to it?
I even got messages saying youguys need to sort your shit out.
If I'm honest to me, the wholethings tainted.
Now I, oh, andy, i don't wantto play anymore.

(52:46):
I'm taking my back.
No, i got nothing.
I got nothing.

Speaker 1 (53:04):
