(00:00):
Hello and welcome to the first episode of cyber snacks where we serve up cybersecurity tips that are short,
simple,
actionable and reasonable Whether you're joining us on January six of 2022 Or 2032.
Welcome.
I'm glad you're listening and I hope you find the information valuable With this being our 1st episode.
(00:27):
I wanted to lay out why we're here.
Our goals and our ground rules.
But first a very brief introduction.
My name is David.
I've been a lawyer for over 17 years And for 14 of those years I also worked in the technology space as an engineer.
(00:51):
For the last five years.
I've focused on data privacy and cybersecurity both from a advising and regulatory perspective as well as implementing solutions.
As of last august I no longer practice within the I.
T.
Space and I've dedicated myself fully to the practice of data privacy and cybersecurity law.
(01:19):
What I found Over the last 17 years is that when you start talking legalese or text speak,
people will tune you out also people need real help.
These days,
threats are on the rise.
(01:42):
Budgets are stretched thin rules and regulations are being released in rapid fashion.
Oftentimes conflicting and contradicting each other for small and midsize businesses.
This is especially tough.
(02:05):
They've got a couple of harsh realities that they need to face one.
They don't have the budget to check every box on the cybersecurity framework that they're expected to follow.
Two even if they could check every box they'd have to realize that they could still be subject to a hacker other security compromise and three,
(02:38):
even though they don't have the budget,
even if they spent the money,
it still might be for nothing.
They're still expected to take action.
Well,
my goal is to try to help the small to midsize business find that low hanging fruit to find that way to get the best bang for their cybersecurity dollar and to find that way to move the needle even if only a little bit,
(03:08):
that's the goal of this podcast,
we want to get as much into the hands of the small to mid sized business owners and the people responsible for managing their information technology and cybersecurity,
But we want to make sure that it follows four simple rules.
(03:35):
One,
we will keep it short.
The length of an episode is supposed to be about five minutes In no instance will an episode be permitted to go more than 10 minutes.
If it goes more than 10 minutes,
I will edit it or throw it away.
(03:57):
two,
we're gonna keep it simple.
No bits and bytes,
no habeas corpus is no legalese,
no text speak.
This will be in english,
it will be something that anyone will be able to understand.
three.
It will be actionable.
You're gonna walk away,
(04:17):
not with theory,
but with something you can go and do today.
four.
It's going to be reasonable.
We're not going to give over the top plans.
We're going to give things that the normal everyday small and midsize business is capable of putting into place.
(04:42):
Maybe it's the first step in a longer journey.
But regardless,
we're moving that needle.
If you think this will be valuable,
I hope you'll subscribe.
You can find us right now on pod bean,
with more distribution channels coming soon.
Thank you.
