The Cinderella story is about a young girl whose mother dies. Her father remarries. His new bride was married before and had two daughters from her previous marriage. Cinderella’s father dies, leaving her in the not-so tender care of her step-mother and her step-sisters. Things work out really badly for Cinderella as it does for most step-children in real life. And in real life, at least in Australia, there aren’t balls at the palace and there aren’t many handsome princes to sweep a girl off her feet and rescue her from her step family. Why the life of most step-children is a long way from ideal is what this programme is going to look at, because thus it was and thus it will always be.
In fact there’s an even better known, a real life story of what it’s like to be a step-child where one of the parents is not your own and nor are any of your brothers and sisters. His were all step-children with the same mum and dad. I’ll tell you about that.
