Do you go to the left? Or do you go to the right? Disturbingly in Latin the word for left is sinister. Sinister‘s defined as suggesting or threatening harm or evil. Causing or intending harm or evil; wicked. Portending misfortune or disaster, ominous. The choice of whether you go left or right isn’t always in your hands. Viktor Frankl went to the right – where he was told to go by the kind SS man – I’m just kidding of course. Stephen Iacoboni went to the left – politically that is. Did he have a choice when he did that? It turned out that the choice that the SS man made for Viktor Frankl was a good one. The choice that Stephen Iacoboni made for himself, especially because he was about to become an oncologist, dealing with patients with cancer, who very frequently were going to die, was a bad one.
