Leaning into Jesus When Fear Overtakes – Psalm 91:1

Podcast Series: Daily Christian Prayer Devotional
Scripture Focus: Psalm 91:1

What happens when your faith wobbles and fear creeps in? Where do you turn when worldly comforts and routines can no longer provide peace or stability? In today’s five-minute spiritual meditation, Reverend Ben Cooper takes us to the heart of Psalm 91:1, where the Psalmist declares, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

In a world that constantly pulls us toward temporary escapes—materialism, noise, performance, and distraction—this episode invites you to lean into Jesus in a deeply personal way. With tender vulnerability and Holy Spirit-filled authority, Reverend Ben reflects on what it truly means to trust God as our shelter, refuge, and dwelling place.

“I've tried leaning into everything else, Lord... and I’ve fallen, I’ve stumbled, and I’ve crashed.”
 — Reverend Ben Cooper

Through biblical imagery and the powerful moment of the Last Supper—where one disciple physically leaned into Christ—this episode explores what it means to spiritually lean into the heart of Jesus. You are reminded that divine rest doesn’t come from perfect circumstances, but from perfect trust in an unshakable God.

As we name and declare God's character—Jehovah Jireh (Provider), Jehovah Nissi (Banner of victory), Jehovah Shalom (Peace)—we are reminded that everything we need is found in Him. Whether you are walking through anxiety, uncertainty, or emotional exhaustion, this short yet profound prayer devotion helps re-anchor your soul in God’s unchanging presence.

Life Application

This episode is your reminder that it’s okay to feel weak—so long as you lean into the One who is strong. Stop leaning on temporary scaffolding. Start dwelling in the shadow of the Almighty. Whether you’re on your morning commute, walking through work stress, or ending a long day—let these five minutes realign your spirit to the eternal truth that God is your refuge and strength.

(00:52):
Stay anchored in faith, strongin prayer, and remember god is
always with you.
Let's pray.
We're in psalms 91, verse 1.
Whoever dwells in the shelterof the most high will rest in
the shadow of the AlmightyFather, in the name of Jesus.
In this prayer time, together,we are going to rest in the

(01:13):
shadow of the Almighty.
We come before you in the nameof Jesus, christ, and will you
strengthen us, will you lead us?
Today, father, we just rest inyour presence.
We come before you and today, whatever this day is, whatever
this hour is, lord, we want todwell in the shelter of the most
high.
We want to rest in the arms ofChrist, we want to lean into

(01:36):
Jesus because, father, sometimeslife is really strong and
powerful and sometimes, lord, myfaith wobbles.
Sometimes, lord, I get scared.
But, lord, will you help me tolean into Jesus?
Because you tell me in the bookof Psalms, through this prayer
time, whoever dwells in theshelter of the most high will

(01:58):
rest in the shadow of thealmighty.
Lord, I've got to rest in you, lord, I've got to rest in you.
Lord, I've got to rest in you.
I cannot rest in my fears.
I cannot rest anymore inmaterialism.
I can't find rest inmaterialism.
I actually can't find rest inthe world.
Lord, I need to come to youdaily.

(02:18):
Lord, I need to rest in yourarms, in your presence, in your
mercy, in your goodness, in yourfaith.
Lord, can I be like thedisciple that sat around the
Passover table and the Biblesays that he leaned into Jesus?
Lord, I want to lean into Jesustoday.
Lord, I want to be like thepsalmist, lord, I want to rest

(02:40):
in the shadow of the Almighty.
I want to lean into my God andmy king because, lord, I've
tried leaning into everythingelse, lord, and I've fallen over
and I've crashed and I'vestumbled.
Lord, and I've made mistakesand, lord, I'm sorry, where I
haven't leaned into you.
I'm sorry, lord where I haven'tlaid into you, lord, and
trusted in you.

(03:01):
So, father, father, today, as we, lord, get ready for work, for
school, for college, foruniversity, wherever we are, if
we're at home, if we're retired,if we are just pottering around
the house, father, whatever ourlife looks like, lord, I pray
that we will lean into Jesus.
Father, fire us up for work, fire us up for school, fire us

(03:23):
up for life, lord, but help usto lean into you, father.
We must lean into you today, father, I've got to lean in,
I've got to rest in, I've got toget myself into your presence
and into your word.
So, father, whatever this daylooks like in my lens, lord,
will you strengthen me, will youcarry me, lord, will you anoint
us afresh today, so that we,lord, can soar on wings as of

(03:54):
eagles, that we can fly hightoday, no matter how hot the
temperature gets in our lives.
So today, lord, I pray for mybrothers and sisters that there
will be a breakthrough, lord, that there will be an anointing
on our lives because, dear God,we are leaning into you, we are
dwelling in the shelter of theMost High, we will rest in the
shadow of the Almighty Lord.
We rest in the wings, in theshadow, in the presence, in the

(04:16):
love, in the glory, in the power, in your sovereignty.
We lean and we rest in theFather's arms.
You are Jehovah Jireh, jehovahNissi, jehovah Shalom.
And today, father, I pray formy brothers and sisters around
the world that the love of Godwill be so strong over them as
they're getting ready for work, maybe in the midday hour, maybe

(04:39):
at the end of the day, maybe inthe middle of the night.
Wherever they are, lord, I praythat they will lean into Jesus,
lord, that they will do as thepsalmist says in Psalm 91, verse
1, whoever dwells in theshelter of the Most High will
rest in the shadow of theAlmighty Spirit of the living
God.

(05:00):
Will you lift us today, jesus, spirit of the living God?
Will you carry us today?
Will you lift us today, jesus, spirit of the living God, will
you carry us today?
We believe in miracles.
Come, holy Spirit, refresh usthrough this prayer time.
In Jesus' name, amen.
