Rooted in the Right Place: Trusting God When It’s Hard

Unshakeable: A Daily Christian Devotional Podcast with Reverend Ben Cooper
Scripture Focus: Jeremiah 17:7–8

What if the strength you're searching for isn’t found in your hustle, your plans, or even your ministry—but in where your soul is planted?

In this powerful 5-minute daily devotional, Reverend Ben Cooper leads us into the heart of Jeremiah 17:7–8:

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream...” (Jeremiah 17:7–8 NIV)

This soul-strengthening message unpacks the secret of spiritual resilience—not through religion, effort, or emotional hype, but by being deeply rooted in God's presence.

Many believers today find themselves exhausted, emotionally dry, and spiritually distant. The reason? We’ve unknowingly placed our confidence in the wrong things: careers, achievements, material success, and even religious identity. But the Bible reminds us: the one who trusts in the Lord remains green, fruitful, and unshaken—even in seasons of drought.

This devotional explores:

  • What it means to be truly rooted in God
  • Why worldly success can never replace spiritual intimacy
  • How to return to God’s life-giving Word in dry seasons
  • The danger of self-reliance and the beauty of surrender
  • How prayer realigns your soul to God’s strength

Through a simple but powerful moment of guided prayer, Reverend Ben invites you to examine your spiritual foundation. Are you living from the well of the world—or the stream of living water that flows from God alone?

LIFE APPLICATION

  • Reflect: Where have I unknowingly placed my confidence?
  • Reposition: What would it look like to plant my heart by God's stream today?
  • Respond: What steps will I take this week to stay connected to His Word?

chapter 17.
And we are ineremiah, chapter17, as we quickly rush through
this five minute prayer.
So with jeremiah, chapter 17,and we're going to pick this
prayer up in verse 7.

(01:13):
So let's just read and thenwe'll pray.
But blessed is the man whotrusts in the lord, whose
confidence is in him.
He will be like a tree plantedby waters, the sending out of
its roots by its stream.
It does not fear when heatcomes, its leaves are always
green, it has no worries in theyear of drought and never fouls

(01:37):
to prepare fruit.
Father, in the name of jesus,we thank you that we are bearing
fruit, but today, in the nameof j, we thank you that we are
bearing fruit, but today, in thename of Jesus, through this
prayer time, we thank you.
We are blessed because, lord,we trust in you today and our
confidence is in you, lord.
We thank you, lord, when heatcomes, when trouble comes, but

(02:00):
right now, lord, father, theleaf on our life is green.
This tree, lord, we are plantedby rivers of living water.
Father, we thank you that weare getting our nourishment from
our God.
We thank you that our God shallfeed us and strengthen us.
But today, lord, we thank youthat blessed is the man who

(02:20):
trusts in the Lord, whoseconfidence is in him.
Father, we are confident in you, we trust you, lord.
So, father, will you increaseour faith and will you remove
any fear in the name of Jesus.
So, lord, as we pray, as webelieve, as we stand on the
anchor of hope, as we stand onthis word, this triune Godhead

(02:43):
that we serve, we believe rightnow, in the name of Jesus, that
we are blessed because we aretrusting in the Lord.
We trust in your word.
We trust in your faithfulness.
We thank you for the cross ofCalvary because we are born
again, spirit-filled, blessedand highly favoured believers in
the eternal God of Israel.

(03:03):
But today, will you bless thelisteners across the globe?
Will you strengthen them today,lord?
Will you give them confidencelike a lion, lord, bold Lord,
like a warrior, to stand up inthe name of Jesus.
Lord, that they will draw theirconfidence from you, lord, that
they won't recoil back into theshell, lord, but they will

(03:23):
stand up and the shell will bebroken at the name of Jesus.
Fear is broken at the name ofJesus.
So we come to you and you tellus blessed is the man who trusts
in the Lord.
And we are trusting in you, jesus, because everything else
has failed, everything else isjust.
The battery has run out.
And today, lord, there is nopower in the world.

(03:48):
And, lord, I'm sorry, whereI've chased stars, where I've
chased the moon, where we'vechased the sun, where we've
chased materialism, where we'vechased the world, may be
absent-mindedly, but, lord, Icome to you today and with a
repenting heart, I say thank youthat every one of us is blessed

(04:09):
because we trust in the lordand father, we find our
confidence in him.
And, yes, we are planted by theriver of life, the stream of
hope, the stream of refreshingspirit of the living god.
I pray that you will anoint mybrothers and sisters, wherever
they are across this globe, thatthey will feel the love of the

(04:30):
Father, the power of the HolySpirit, and they will know that
their Redeemer lives and becausehe lives, they can face
tomorrow.
Give them confidence at school, give them confidence in
relationships, give themconfidence in life, give them
confidence at work, lord.
Let confidence, lord, notarrogance, but confidence in the
word of God, not of the world, that type of confidence that

(04:54):
causes trouble, but theconfidence, lord, of the
anointing.
Let them realize that they areanointed and they are walking in
the gospel of truth.
So, spirit of the living God, Ithank you that your hand is
with them, your love is overthem, but blessed is the man who
trusts in the Lord.
We trust in you today because, lord, there's nowhere else to go

(05:17):
and I'm sorry, lord, that I'vegone in any other place.
I've gone to many rabbit holes, lord, and I've left you to last
.
I'm sorry, jesus, I'm sorryLord, but I thank you for
repentance.
But today, lord, this is a newbeginning.
This is a new beginning becausewe're going to trust in your
word, we're going to trust inyour faithfulness, we're going
to stand on the scripturetogether and we're going to walk

(05:41):
forward, every one of us today.
