Hello design lovers and welcome back to anotherepisode of Daily Interior Design Inspo!
I'm your host, Betsy Helmuth, and today we'vegot some exciting new trends to dive into.
If you're dealing with a small space and arealways on the lookout for innovative lighting
solutions, this episode is especially for you.
Let's jump right in!

(00:24):
It's no secret that lighting can make or breaka space, but what if you do not have space for
a ton of lamps in the first place?
Of course, you can always stick to wall-mountedfixtures without sacrificing your floor,
although these do not always emit the mostlight and you are still somewhat limited in the
renter-friendly category.

(00:46):
Luckily, there's one new light trend I'mnoticing that maximizes vertical height and
looks incredibly unique — and I have no otherterm to call these than “elongated floor
lamps.” Recently, elongated floor lamps havestarted cropping up across a few modern home
brands, and you'll definitely know one when yousee it.

(01:07):
This trend is all about floor lamps with somesort of sturdy base, paired with a shade that's
— you guessed it — super elongated anddramatic-looking.
In fact, the shade essentially is the wholelight, with some measuring three feet tall or
more.
I first spotted this lamp style from Target aspart of designer Justina Blakeney’s Jungalow

(01:29):
line.
Not only does the brand’s yellow design pack acheery pop of color into any room, but the
statement shade also has a scalloped silhouettefor added visual appeal.
A glossy ceramic base rounds out the look, while only requiring thirteen inches of floor
space.
The whole piece stands fifty-eight inches tall, effectively doubling as a light source and

(01:52):
decorative focal point styled next to a couch, armchair, or bedside.
West Elm currently has a more minimalistoption, too — the Brynn Terracotta Floor Lamp.
You still get the elongated shade componenthere, but the twenty-three-inch-tall clay body

(02:12):
feeds more into the overall height, fifty-eightinches fully assembled.
This lamp’s natural finish and linen shadewould nicely complement a neutral color
palette, but West Elm also has an asymmetricalwhite style to pair with just about any design
aesthetic.
Because these typically feature solid, durablebase pieces to stay upright, elongated lamps do

(02:37):
take up slightly more square footage thansimilar compact counterparts.
That said, they can still easily integrate intotight, dark corners with an overall playful,
eye-catching structure that you wouldn'totherwise get from a standard floor lamp.
I mean, just look at them — small-spacelighting doesn't get more fun than this!

(03:01):
Raise your hand if you’re a maximalist.
If, like me, you feel like your arm just shotout of its socket, then you may need a way to
simultaneously store and display your mosttreasured items.
Well, come a little closer — because I’m aboutto whisper a pretty big, secret storage hack
into your ear.
The storage item you’ve been waiting for?

(03:23):
It’s a credenza.
And not just any credenza, but Thuma’s TheCredenza, which is so incredibly functional it
was a winner in Apartment Therapy’s 2024Organization Awards.
This masterful piece of furniture can be placedin any room of your home — think kitchens,

(03:43):
living rooms, even bedrooms — and it lets youeasily store everything from dishes and
glassware to kids’ toys, knickknacks, and DVDs.
In short, it’s an all-purpose way tosimultaneously stow and show off multiple items
in your home, and it looks beautiful at thesame time.

(04:03):
Here’s what makes it an award winner.
When investing in a big storage furniturepiece, it’s important to find one that meets
your storage needs and is built to last.
The Credenza from Thuma has all of that inspades.
It’s crafted from one hundred percent upcycledrubberwood, which is sustainably repurposed and

(04:27):
undeniably sturdy.
Each piece is also unique, featuring naturalimperfections and distinctive wood grains and
knots, so you know you have a piece that isinherently your own.
This credenza is a winner in ApartmentTherapy’s Every Room category, which showcases
products that you not only can, but want to usein every room, thanks to their versatility.

(04:51):
And that definitely describes this Thuma pieceto a T.
Use it as a display for bar decor in the livingroom, store shoes and small items by the
entryway, or turn it into an open bookshelf inthe office.
No matter where it goes, and what you do withit, the possibilities are truly endless.

(05:12):
Because The Credenza comes in multiple sizes, you can choose how much storage you want, or
get it based on the space you have to workwith.
You can get a 2×2 or up to a 4×3 in size anduse it in any room.
Plus, the minimal, modular design also allowsyou to add, rearrange, or remove drawers and
cubby units.

(05:34):
The Credenza comes in four different colors —walnut, natural, espresso, or grey — so no
matter what your color scheme and aesthetic, there’s one to match.
The price ranges from $1,335 to 4,125,depending on the size you purchase.
This is definitely an investment piece, but oneworth purchasing.

(05:58):
Living in a small space requires some intuitivefurniture shopping, especially when it comes to
decking out a living room.
One of the best pieces to invest in?
A sleeper sofa.
We’ve covered the best sleeper sofas in thepast, but what about sleepers specifically made
with small spaces in mind?

(06:20):
We’re talking sofas that fold back futon-style,or ones that open up into Twin, Full, or even
Queen-sized beds — whatever it takes to leaveas small a footprint as possible in tight
quarters while still keeping overnight visitorshappy.
Finding the right sofa for your space can be abit overwhelming, so before we share our

(06:42):
favorite small space sleeper sofas, let’s chatabout what to look out for.
Here are some tips on how to buy a sleeper sofayou’ll love for years to come.
Keep the amount of space you need in mind.

There are four types of sleeper sofas (06:56):
full-on sleepers, sofa beds, futons, and daybeds.
When folded, each of these will take up thesame amount of space as a regular sofa so keep
in mind the regular rules of sofa buying.
However, when opened, that’s a different story.
For instance, if you’re short of space, afull-on sleeper may not be the best pick

(07:19):
because you need a significant amount of extraroom to extend the pull-out mattress, something
you’ll want to take into account before it’s inyour home.
Be sure to keep all space requirements top ofmind when shopping for your sofa.
Choose a pick that’s the right kind offunctional.
Think about your lifestyle and whether asleeper sofa, sofa bed, futon, or daybed would

(07:43):
best fit your needs.
Do you entertain or host often but don’t have aguest bedroom?
It all comes down to how frequently thesleeping function would, realistically, be
used.
And if you answered, “Truthfully, not thatoften,” you might be better off with a really
deep regular sofa.

(08:05):
Keep your budget in mind.
Sleeper sofas can get expensive fast, so whenshopping for your perfect pieces, keep your
budget in mind.
Thankfully, there is a practical option for anybudget.
Ranked in order by price, you’ll likely findsleeper sofas to be the most expensive,
followed by sofa beds, with daybeds and futonson the lower end.

(08:28):
It pays to splurge on a durable sleeper sofa, though, especially if it’s doubling as your
primary everyday couch.
Whether you live in a tiny studio or just don’twant a large sofa, we’ve found the best small
space sleepers of your (and your guests’)dreams.
Because who says you have to sacrifice space orstyle for function?

(08:52):
First up, the Mistana Aria Upholstered RoundArm Sleeper.
For those on a budget, this sofa is a greatpick.
It has a split back that folds down into afull-size bed.
The entire length of the sofa is seventy-seveninches, with seventy-one inches dedicated to
sleeping, and it comes in six neutral colorsthat can complement a fun throw pillow

(09:15):

(12:04):
an attractive compromise designed for smallspaces.

(13:15):
Compact but full of style, the Cameron SleeperSofa from Pottery Barn is just fifty-six inches
wide, with a memory foam mattress that comes inat thirty-six inches.
That's why it's the perfect size for studiosand guest rooms, and since it's Pottery Barn,
you'll get tons of fabric and color options(and regular sales).

(13:39):
Featuring a premium foam mattress and aneasy-to-use pullout mechanism, the American
Leather Alora Sleeper Sofa is as comfortable asit is elegant.
The sloped arms and classic design make it apiece you will love to look at throughout the
day as much as your guests will enjoy sleepingon it at night.

winner.

velvet material looks luxe.
Easily adjust the back between its threepositions: sitting, lounging, or sleeping.

(14:21):
We're big fans of the full-sized sofas thatInterior Define has to offer, but the Twin
Sloan is the one you want for smaller spaces.
The biggest draw for Interior Define is thefreedom to customize — you can choose
everything from the fabric to the colors to thelegs, with the option to receive up to five

Alright, design lovers, let's talk about onemore essential for your small-space home: rugs.

(30:58):
Specifically, I want to share my thoughts on arug that I think is the best for every home,
especially if you’re working with limitedsquare footage.
I recently tested thirty-six rugs from topretailers, and the West Elm Lumini Easy Care
Rug stood out as the absolute best.
Rugs are one of my favorite decor categories toexplore.

(31:20):
Even when displayed in a showroom, it’sfascinating to see how a specific pattern or
colorway can alter the entire mood of a room.
After reviewing close to forty rugs frompopular home retailers, I found that it’s not
easy to find one that strikes the perfectbalance of style, durability, softness, and
maintenance.

(31:42):
But the West Elm Lumini Easy Care Rug comesclose to perfection in all these aspects.
The Lumini Easy Care Rug is mostly made fromwool, which is surprising considering it’s one
of West Elm’s more affordable options.
Specifically, it’s crafted from sixty-fivepercent wool, twenty percent polyester, and

(32:03):
fifteen percent nylon.
This blend makes the rug both luxurious andeasy to care for.
I first saw the Lumini in West Elm’s Chelseastore in Manhattan, where it was placed in a
high-traffic area.
Despite being subjected to constant foottraffic, the rug was in excellent condition and
still quite fluffy.

(32:25):
This convinced me that it would be a greataddition to any busy home.
One of the standout features of the Lumini EasyCare Rug is its range of available colors and
sizes.
It comes in ten sizes and two shapes, so youcan also get it in a runner form in addition to
the typical rectangular shape.

(32:47):
The color options are all neutral but far fromboring; you can choose from a beautiful burnt
umber to a creamy ivory.
I viewed the rug in the alabaster shade, whichis cool-toned and surprisingly good at
concealing stains despite its light color.
The rug is handwoven and medium pile, whichmeans it might shed a bit at first, but this

(33:10):
will diminish over time with regular vacuuming.
One thing to note is that the Lumini is not assoft as it looks.
However, its somewhat rough feel is a trade-offfor its durable weave.
It scores a ten out of ten in every othercategory, from its stylish appearance to its
ribbed texture that adds just the right amountof volume to any room.

(33:35):
Another great feature is that the back of therug is made from recycled cotton and stays
flush against the ground, meaning you don’tnecessarily need to invest in a separate rug
pad.
Its corners were not curling up when I saw itin the store, which is a big plus.
