Sportscaster Dan Lovallo comments on the latest in sports and the sports media. www.danonsports.com
It was a tough week for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell at the NFL owners meetings in Minneapolis. His defeat on two proposals he was favoring has led to speculation owners may not extend his contract, when it expires in March of 2027.
In this edition of the DAN ON SPORTS podcast, I break it all down, including how the commissioner has made hundreds of millions of dollars, during his 19-year tenure.
Here are some other DAN ON SPORTS t...
Good morning, all!
Good for Boston Red Sox pitcher Liam Hendriks to speak out about the threats he and his family have received on social media, the result of his having a couple of poor relief outings. I break it all down here on the latest DAN ON SPORTS podcast.
To say some posts on social media have gotten out of hand is an understatement. The evil and hateful comments being spewed behind fake accounts or real accounts, for that ...
Good morning, all!
Red Sox manager Alex Cora made the right move Monday night, despite some static on talk radio in Boston. I run it all down in the above commentary.
Incidentally, I know many people in Cora’s shoes who have done the same thing. And you would too.

The defending NBA champion Boston Celtics are playing the New York Knicks in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals this afternoon at 3:30 on ABC. The Knicks are up in the best-of-7 series, 2-0, and are the home team for the next two games. It is a must win for one team. I describe which team is on the hot seat in this DAN ON SPORTS commentary.
The Knicks, by the way, have not won an NBA title since the 1972-73 se...
Good morning, all!
Is new Pope Leo IVX a Cubs fan? The first-ever Pope from the United States was born in Chicago and various media sites are proclaiming he was a Cubs fan, but his brother isn’t buying it.
But why would he chose Leo? Maybe it was after Leo Durocher, the Cubs manager, who brought the morbid franchise back into contention in the late 1960’s, at about the time the 69-year-old pope was a teenager.
If you ask me, it’s the ...
NFL executives are giddy over attendance figures for the first round of the players’ draft in Green Bay.
In fact, when you compare the turnout to the population of Green Bay, you could make a strong argument the numbers are off the charts. I break it all down on the latest Dan On Sports.

There have been a lot of feel good stories about the Washington Commanders moving from Maryland back to the District of Columbia and a new stadium on the site of their old haunts RFK Stadium, but opposition is growing. I break it all down in this edition of DAN ON SPORTS.

Legendary coach Bill Belichick has written a new book, Art of Winning. Something happened along the way, however, for the coach-turned-scribe. He left out the owner of the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft.
I break it all down on this edition of Dan On Sports, including why I am not a fan of Kraft.

On April 11, 1966, the New York Yankees opened Yankee Stadium to the public, free-of-charge, to watch the Yankees workout. It was the day before Opening Day, when the Yankees would host the Detroit Tigers. What followed became a part of Yankees history not many people know about. Here is that story, which I ran on my You Tube channel: Baseball Discourse.

The Tampa Bay Rays have passed their first test in their temporary home, Steinbrenner Field. The Rays home opener on Friday against the Colorado Rockies is a sellout. Critics, particularly on social media, have been piling on the Rays, hoping the franchise will move out west. It’s not going to happen. The Rays are staying in Florida.
As most of you know, Hurricane Milton tore the roof off of the Rays home, Tropicana Field. A few mon...
When the New York Yankees wrap up the home portion of their exhibition season at Steinbrenner Field on Sunday, coincidentally against the Tampa Bay Rays, a massive transformation of the complex will quickly follow. Steinbrenner Field will be converted to the home of the Rays, whose ballpark was put out of commission last fall, when winds from Hurricane Milton tore the roof off of Tropicana Field.
It is going to be quite an undertaki...
Tampa Bay Rays owner Stuart Sternberg is pulling out of the plan to build a new ballpark for his franchise.
Sternberg is citing cost for the reason, claiming the Rays end of the deal has increased beyond the $731M the franchise was supposed to hand over by Mar. 31. The announcement comes less than 48 hours after the St. Petersburg, FL NAACP stated it wanted the project to proceed despite some roadblocks.

Dan Hurley is the coach of the reigning, two-time, defending national champion UConn men’s basketball team. His appearance on 60 Minutes Sunday night has generated discussion across the college basketball landscape, although Hurley told the media on Wednesday, he was surprised over the outcry. I break down some of his comments, including one I have somewhat of a problem with.

Portland, OR has dreams of landing a MLB team. To that end, the Portland Diamond Project released renderings last week for a proposed $2B stadium south of downtown.
In this episode of Dan On Sports, I explain why the Portland Diamond Project’s dream is a long-shot at best.

The Athletics may have left Oakland at the end of the 2024 season. The Athletics may be playing the next three seasons in West Sacramento, Ca. Make no mistake about it, however, the Athletics are moving to Las Vegas.
The Athletics are coming off an eventful week, from releasing renderings of their new ballpark in Vegas, to announcing they will start taking deposits on season tickets for the Las Vegas ballpark, to extending one of t...
For the third straight season, the New York Mets had MLB’s highest payroll in 2024 at $333.3M. The Athletics, in their last season in Oakland, had the game’s lowest payroll at $66.5M. The disparity in payroll numbers for these clubs is staggering.
As I point out in this edition of Dan On Sports, the game is on a collision course with a salary cap looming, something the MLBPA is dead set against.
From the co-owner to the general manager to the head coach, all agree the New York Giants must settle their quarterback situation. It is not an exaggeration to proclaim the franchise’s future is hanging in the balance, because of the uncertainty over who will man the position.
With the NFL draft looming next month, stories are beginning to emerge the Giants may have formulated a plan. I break it down on this edition of Dan On Sport...
Is baseball dying? President Donald Trump thinks so in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump said the sport is “dying,” while announcing he will pardon Pete Rose, but is it? I break it all down on this addition of Dan On Sports.
