This is really intended forpeople in the Kentucky County
where I grew up.
This past weekend I kind ofstumbled into a treasure that my
mom had left behind when shecould not attend our high school

basketball games.
She would record them ontocassette tapes and I happened to
find about three or four ofthese cassette tapes and I
thought, hmm, I'm going to takea listen and I'm just going to
post it for the people in myhome county who might want to
listen.

This particular tape is thefinal game that McQuarrie County

High School would ever play asa basketball team.
You see, in the fall of 1978,the two high schools in my
county Pine Aude High School andMcQuarrie County High School
would consolidate into a brandnew school.
Just so happens that I was partof that first graduating class
of McQuarrie Central High School, as well as my wife Linda,

which is where we met Story foranother time.
This basketball game is theopening game of the 47th
District Basketball Tournamentin the state of Kentucky.
The game would find Pinottaking on McQuarrie County.
These two schools were rivalschools and they did not play
each other during the season.
Often they would findthemselves matched up in the

tournament.
They had met the previous yearin the opening round of the
tournament and Pinot had lost.
Pinot was really looking for acomeback game.
They had a brand new coach thatyear and again, it would be
their final year as a highschool.
I have really great memories ofthe names that I heard on this

cassette tape.
When you grow up in a small town, you pretty much know everybody
and everybody knows you.
As you can imagine, there'spositives and negatives to that.
Of course.
If I stepped out of line andsomebody saw me, they would be
quick into the grocery store andthey'd say Wilma, danny's
riding that motorcycle too fast.
But growing up in a small town,it's a place where people look

out for each other.
It's a place where people takecare of each other.
Churches were packed.
There were businesses on everycorner, seems like this is a
game from the winter of 1978,guessing it was played around
the end of February, maybe earlyMarch.
If you don't know anything aboutKentucky basketball, it's

divided into 16 regions.
It doesn't matter if you're abig school, little school, you
may end up in what's called theSweet 16 Basketball Tournament,
which has been played in RuppArena since 1979.
In mid-March it brings the 16best teams from the state

together to play the finaltournament of the season.

This is really intended forpeople in the Kentucky County
where I grew up.
This past weekend I kind ofstumbled into a treasure that my
mom had left behind when shecould not attend our high school

basketball games.
She would record them ontocassette tapes and I happened to
find about three or four ofthese cassette tapes and I
thought, hmm, I'm going to takea listen and I'm just going to
post it for the people in myhome county who might want to
listen.

This particular tape is thefinal game that McQuarrie County

High School would ever play asa basketball team.
You see, in the fall of 1978,the two high schools in my
county Pine Aude High School andMcQuarrie County High School
would consolidate into a brandnew school.
Just so happens that I was partof that first graduating class
of McQuarrie Central High School, as well as my wife Linda,

which is where we met Story foranother time.
This basketball game is theopening game of the 47th
District Basketball Tournamentin the state of Kentucky.
The game would find Pinottaking on McQuarrie County.
These two schools were rivalschools and they did not play
each other during the season.
Often they would findthemselves matched up in the

tournament.
They had met the previous yearin the opening round of the
tournament and Pinot had lost.
Pinot was really looking for acomeback game.
They had a brand new coach thatyear and again, it would be
their final year as a highschool.
I have really great memories ofthe names that I heard on this
(02:37):
cassette tape.
When you grow up in a small town, you pretty much know everybody
and everybody knows you.
As you can imagine, there'spositives and negatives to that.
Of course.
If I stepped out of line andsomebody saw me, they would be
quick into the grocery store andthey'd say Wilma, danny's
riding that motorcycle too fast.
But growing up in a small town,it's a place where people look

out for each other.
It's a place where people takecare of each other.
Churches were packed.
There were businesses on everycorner, seems like this is a
game from the winter of 1978,guessing it was played around
the end of February, maybe earlyMarch.
If you don't know anything aboutKentucky basketball, it's

divided into 16 regions.
It doesn't matter if you're abig school, little school, you
may end up in what's called theSweet 16 Basketball Tournament,
which has been played in RuppArena since 1979.
In mid-March it brings the 16best teams from the state

together to play the finaltournament of the season.
