to the Dark Matter Podcast. Hey y'all, welcome back to the

podcast Dev here, super excited to have you with me today.
It got something super exciting,something that's been on my mind
here for a little while. And you know, it's kind of like
a little bit of a back and forthwith some of the other coaches
and entrepreneurs that I've beenchatting with over the last a
while. So in my last business and a lot
of the, you know, big frameworksthat I've seen and that we

followed was it's better to start the plane and fly it and
fix what needs to be fixed whileyou're in the air, then trying
to build a plane on the floor. Now, of course, logically
speaking, in real life, yes, of course you want to just build
the plane on the floor before actually testing it in the air.

But for a business metaphor, I think it makes sense because
it's talking about launching andthen figuring out or optimizing
what needs to be fixed and optimized while you've already
started, while you're in motion,right?
And I think that's the biggest thing.
It's almost like the perfectionism of wanting
everything to be perfect stops us from actually getting things
(01:41):
moving. But I think it is in that that
we recognize could be our biggest flaw, right?
Because then you could actually end up moving forward.
Taking imperfect action can get you further than just waiting
for things to be perfect. And so I wanted to share this
concet because there was a book that was given to me.
(02:01):
It was called E Myth Revisited. And it's a very powerful book
and it talks a lot about different business concepts.
And I've shared one on here before, which is the different
hats that every business has, one being the technician, one
being the manager, and one beingthe visionary.
Every single business has these three different hats and every
(02:22):
successful business needs someone in these exact roles to
move things forward. Technician does the work,
manager manages the person and sets the foundation in the
container for the technician to just do the work, and then the
visionary sets the direction to move things forward.
And so in the book, there's another concept there called
(02:44):
Turnkey business. And for those that watched the
Founder, that documentary about McDonald's, this kind of speaks
to that because McDonald's in itself was not one of those
businesses that just launched and figure things out along the
way. McDonald's actually was a
business that had everything mapped out before they launched
(03:07):
their first initiative. And now it's grown because they
even knew how to scale the business.
And so it's a really interestingconcept.
I think of course, there are a lot of differences between that
and like an online business, forexample, with that, there's a
lot of things that have to come in, right?
The branding that's, you know, standard across the board, but
hiring location, right? Like most of the McDonald's that
(03:30):
you see, they usually have a pretty big property, right?
Whereas some of the other businesses may not have those
things. And even making the burger, it's
interesting because most of the fries and the burgers
themselves, they taste very similar or almost the exact
same. No matter which location you go
to, whether you're in Hong Kong or you're here in Canada or even
(03:53):
going to the US, it tastes the exact same.
Now, how do you master that? How no matter where you go with
different maybe technology, different culture, different
norms, how can you still have a product that stays at that same
standard? Well, this is how right They
talk about the turnkey revolution for their business.
(04:16):
And basically what that means isthey already know what it is.
The business is entirely alreadyset up, it's just waiting for
you to put the key in and turn it.
I'm pretty sure the process to get started on owning your own
McDonald's, it is a bit of a strenuous process.
You have to really embody, you know, their values.
(04:36):
You have to really show that youunderstand their lifestyle.
More importantly, when you do have those things, you have to
show that you know how to actually make the burgers right,
make the food and understand theentire process from start to
finish. Because only until, you know, a
franchise owner understands thatthey can't get the keys to then
(04:58):
just plug it in. Because that's the thing with
McDonald's and what it's become.There are all different
franchise owners for the most part.
And once you pass their test, ifyou will, then they give you the
rights to everything. And all you have to do is just
get to location, put up the sign, and then you'll have
people coming for interviews, laid out all the different roles
(05:21):
within the company. You know, the expectations,
everything all laid out, which is pretty incredible if you
think about it. Now, the reason I'm bringing
this up is because this really directly contradicts to the way
that I was teaching people to run a business.
And even the way that we ran a business, what we were doing
(05:43):
wasn't to have all of those things mapped out and then
launch. It was to understand, you know,
almost like MVP, which is your minimum viable product,
something that you could just craft after getting feedback and
real time data to then sell. And then once you sell it, you
(06:06):
get feedback of that, you make it better and you make it
better. And then this is how you create
a product or a coaching program or something that ends up being
extremely, you know, valuable oruseful to that ideal person
because you've data-driven it and you've tested it.
And so I think today's chat really is talking about knowing
(06:28):
the difference and really stop trying.
It's like that message of stop trying to be ready, you know?
And I think readiness as a whole, it's a trap.
It's almost like this perfectionism is
procrastination, but it's dressed in productivity.
It looks like productivity. It looks like you're trying to
be so right and righteous and all these things, but really
(06:51):
it's just procrastination. It's really just another tactic
to keep you stuck in not actually moving things forward.
And I think that's the biggest thing over the years.
There are so many people that I talked to that said, you know,
I'm not ready for it. You'll never be ready.
And I think that's the reality of the situation.
It's funny because when I was doing my speech at my buddy's
(07:14):
wedding a couple weeks ago, it'sso interesting because I was
prepping a little while for it. I wrote some notes out and I
wasn't even really going to haveany notes.
But then we were a couple days away from the wedding and it
just came to me. So I just thought I'd write it
out. And so I wrote out these notes
and I was trying to memorize it as best as I could, but we were
also busy doing other things, soI didn't really have a chance to
(07:37):
memorize it. And then we got to the venue and
like, it's all going to be happening right now.
And I was still trying to memorize it.
And I remember like me and Jess are sitting at the table and
she's trying to talk to me. I'm like, hold on, hold on.
Like I need to try to memorize this, right?
And you can try so much to try to memorize everything that
(07:57):
you're doing, but the reality isthere's a time where you just
have to do it the way that it was is we're all there.
We kind of took some photos. Then we did the actual ceremony
of it all. Then we broke and then everyone
was able to go get get some food, get some drinks, hang out,
talk and then it was like sometime it passed, everyone
wanted to eat and relax. Then sometime after that, I was
(08:17):
the first speech, I was the onlyspeech.
And then, of course, the bride and the groom, they gave their
own little announcement there aswell.
But I was the only speech. And so it LED with me.
And so I was sitting there trying to memorize it.
I was, OK, I'm just going to go to the bathroom really quick,
get a drink and then come back. And I should be pretty good for
it. Literally as soon as I close the
(08:38):
door in the bathroom, they're like, OK.
And Devin, come on down. I was like, oh, geez.
You know, it's like sitting heretrying to be ready, memorizing,
you know, making this whole thing not even that enjoyable to
some degree for Jess. She's sitting there trying to
chat with me. And I'm like, no, no, I need to
memorize this thing. I need to dial this thing in.
It's got to be perfect. And here you have it, all this
(09:00):
time just for them to just be like, hey, it's time.
And then you just go in and you do it.
And I think maybe it's just because of how everything had
been for me or, you know, how I'd always been in my life.
But I just realized in that moment, it doesn't matter how
much preparation you have, how little or more of it just
matters of, you know, are you going to be ready in that
(09:22):
moment? And I think what I love about
that, actually, as I'm explaining this all out, the
best thing is to have something,it's almost like put it on the
calendar when you don't have something to look forward to or
something that's going to absolutely crunch you in and
force you to commit. We can wiggle out of things, you
(09:42):
know what I mean? But for this, it's like, I had
no other option. Of course, if it was up to me, I
would have been like, oh, give me like another 30 minutes, give
me some more time so I can figure this thing out.
But now it wasn't on my schedule.
It was on the schedule of the venue.
And so because they're like, hey, it's time to go.
It's like, OK, I have to force myself to be ready.
And I think there's a beauty in being prepared, but also knowing
(10:05):
like you have to show up ready or not.
And I think that's the beauty ofit.
And even for Jess and myself, wehave our event right on how to
start your own online business. And so if that's you wanting to
start your online business, we're going to be sharing some
free trainings. It might be too late to register
for it by the time this thing airs, but you will have an
opportunity to take a look at it.
(10:26):
But we're going to be running this thing and ready or not,
we're going live. Ready or not, we have people
registered from all over the world.
Ready or not, it is time to put on the show.
And I think that's the reality of it.
I think it's about a combinationof it all.
I think there's preparation, yes, but you also have to put
yourself a healthy deadline to know this is it, right?
(10:47):
Like you have to now create thisthing where you have to show up
regardless. I think this could be useful for
a lot of people because I know alot of my audience, you guys are
all listening, You know, you're planning, you're, you're
thriving, you're working towardssomething.
And I think as we do this, as wecontinue to work towards bigger
(11:09):
milestones, as we work towards becoming the best version of
ourselves and going into these uncharted territories, naturally
we're going to want to stay herefor as long as we can before
we're really forced out of it. Sometimes we're not forced out
of it either. And sometimes we can literally
just stay doing this. And this is how sometimes people
(11:30):
stay in the same situation for along time.
And so I think the reality of the situation is whatever goal
you're trying to hit, whatever thing you're trying to do,
create something where there is an absolute deadline and then
work towards it and be comfortable and prepared to show
up ready. And you know, for us now we're
(11:52):
teaching this method called the live conversion method.
And this is a method that is perfect for the entrepreneur,
the online creative or coach wholoves being in the spotlight,
that knows they can really answer questions live, that they
can really share their energy and with the right people,
they're going to see that and want to work with you.
They're going to want to be partof your world.
(12:15):
So we teach this method, and Thething is, with this method, we
know that not every single person that comes into our world
is going to run that for the first time and make 100 grand.
It's possible to do that, but that's not what we're pitching.
The idea here is like, you run it and then you learn where you
can improve and you get better and better.
(12:35):
That's kind of the analogy to fly the plane and fix it, right?
Launch it, go live, bring peoplein, get good at doing this thing
and, you know, set the right expectations and then get better
with it until. And we have some people that we
know in our industry that every single time they run one of
(12:55):
these events, they're clearing 6figures.
Imagine that you basically have a business where all of your
outreach and your lead generation is to have them come
see you live. And then you have a one to three
day event and you have people from all over the world,
anywhere between 100 to 1000 people coming to see you live.
(13:16):
You put on a hell of a show and you have people lined up ready
to pay you. That's the goal.
That's where you want to get to.It doesn't happen your first
time or your second time or yourthird time.
You know, it's one of those things that if you're really
disciplined and you want to get there, then this is one of those
things where it's like just fly the plane.
Do it. Do your first one.
Don't be discouraged. Really use that mindset and to
(13:41):
strengthen your own mind, the resilience to stay consistent
and keep moving. So I think that's the goal with
this. I think the whole foundation,
whole framework, it's, it's incredible.
We're a couple days away from November and then we're less
than 60 days away from 2025, ending this time last year.
(14:01):
I used to always say, you know, we were 60 days away almost from
2026. The things you do now is really
what's going to set you up for 2026.
The things today, the things in these next 60 days is really
what's going to allow you to start 2026 off with a bang.
So if you are one of those people that want to be ready,
(14:23):
that want to make sure that everything is there and all the
T's are crossed and the IS are dotted, I get it.
But depending on your goal, and I guess depending on your
venture, sometimes just taking action and messy, imperfect
action might be the best thing for you, because it's only in
the real world feedback and the practical application of it all
(14:48):
that you can really improve. It's hard to improve upon
something that is just theory, and I think that's the reality
of the situation. So I hope you enjoyed today's
