Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the
Day-to-Day Podcast, calm
Conversations with a Friend, spoken by Jackie Joy, and you
are listening to Episode 11.
You decide to check yourmessages.
(00:23):
One new voicemail it's from oneof your friends.
You decide it's time to sitdown, make yourself comfortable
and have a listen.
Hey Wow, isn't this a crazytime of year.
(01:13):
It sounds like we've both gotsome very tight work deadlines,
and you in particular have beenworking super hard, but at least
we're still managing to do someother fun things as well, and
we're actually lucky that weboth love our jobs too, which
makes it so much easier whenthese tight deadlines come along
and you have to live in frontof a screen for seemingly days
(01:37):
on end and also also deal withcrazy tech problems that come
our way.
I hope you sorted out yours.
I had certainly my share of someaudio problems the other
(01:58):
evening, but sometimes itdoesn't just seem to be that one
thing goes wrong, but you havea number of things to deal with.
At one stage, I was hearing mysound through one headphone and
(02:20):
then I was not hearing any sound.
Then I was hearing buzzy sound.
Anyway, I got there in the endand it seemed to be a few things
I had to fix to get there, butI did it.
(02:40):
I'm really happy to hear thatyou have a holiday break coming
up.
I mean, this is something thatyou so deserve and you
definitely have earned it.
I hope the weather is great foryou and please send photos, as
(03:01):
usual.
I'm really looking forward tohearing everything about your
upcoming journey, so keep me inthe loop when you have a chance,
which does remind me that I wasgoing to tell you a little bit
more about our beach trip withmy friend from Scotland.
(03:27):
Actually, she has been myfriend for a very, very long
time.
She is officially my longestfriend, since kindergarten,
which is preschool here, so it'sbeen a while.
(03:51):
I'm just trying to remember howwe stayed in touch because she
actually moved back to Scotlandat the end of the first grade,
so we didn't grow up withinternet or emails or text
messages, so it was a way morechallenging time to keep in
(04:17):
touch.
I think we wrote lettersinitially, but then that dropped
off and we did lose contact foryears.
Then we met up randomly againthrough a mutual friend here in
(04:39):
Australia and after that we madeway more of an effort to stay
in touch, mainly by letters, andby that I mean written letters.
It's a bit like pen pals.
I suppose I'm speaking of penpals.
(05:04):
I'm speaking of pen pals.
One of my school friends hastwo pen pals and she's actually
had them since primary school.
So she's kept in touch withthem regularly via letter
writing for many, many, manyyears and it's crazy, but she's
(05:32):
never actually ever met eitherof her pen pals in person, I
suppose because one is in LA andthe other is in Japan, so
they're two places she has nevertravelled to yet.
(05:53):
So this friend has very prettyhandwriting.
She even puts little lovehearts instead of the dot above
the letter I.
It's super cute and she's oneof a kind, and I think I
(06:16):
mentioned a card that she sentme in one of my earlier messages
.
So yes, she sends us thesehandwritten cards for every
birthday and every Christmas andI always open them with care,
(06:36):
because sometimes they arefilled or booby-trapped with
lots of confetti or shiny littlestars.
Actually, she was in the paperfairly recently too.
They were talking about thefact that she'd had these two
(06:57):
pen pals for so many years andthe article was called People of
Letters and I dug it up and Ihave it here right in front of
me.
I'll read out the firstparagraph to you, which goes
(07:21):
Does anyone write lettersanymore?
Does anyone write lettersanymore?
You know, actual handwrittenwords on a page, sealed in a
paper envelope, stamped and senton its way through a big red
(07:44):
postal box.
We talk to those who want torevive what is fast becoming a
lost art.
Anyway, it was a great articleand I think I was actually
talking about the holiday.
(08:05):
The other thing I wanted to tellyou about was the amazing
sounds of the crickets andcicadas.
I started telling you about thesounds of the rosellas, which
(08:26):
were extreme every morning andevery evening, but alongside the
rosellas were both crickets andcicadas, were both crickets and
cicadas, and at times I reallyfelt like I was in the middle of
nature's orchestra.
(08:46):
Apparently, the crickets havehigher pitched musical chirping
sounds, whereas the cicadas havemore of a buzzy, raspy sound.
So the crickets sound a bitprettier.
I mean, you probably alreadyknow this, but I found it
(09:13):
interesting.
There just seem to be so manylayers of sound.
There just seem to be so manylayers of sound.
Actually, the crickets andcicadas often feature in film
soundscapes and they really doadd a great texture to the whole
sound field and make a greatbed for dialogue and are often
(09:39):
used in more evening scenes, forexample, when people are
chatting out in the garden inthe Hollywood Hills.
And I think I've alreadymentioned that the crickets, or
the cricketscape, was a verylarge part of the recent film I
(10:02):
worked on, which was set in theMojave Desert.
No message of mine would becomplete without an audio clip
or two.
So here is a little audio clipI took of the cicadas in Yamba,
(10:22):
and you can also hear a noisyminor bird chirping in this as
well, and this is the sound ofcicadas in our local
(10:49):
neighborhood.
Courtesy of Tilly, she has beensending me audio clips of
places she's been visiting, likethe coffee shop and other
interesting sounds like this aswell, so I've been loving that.
So now, yes, my update on thesnail cream.
(11:16):
I've been using it at leastonce daily and now under my eyes
feel so incredibly hydrated, tothe point where I feel like I
have soft pillows under my eyes, but in a good way.
(11:41):
Also, my neck is feeling sosoft and even a bit velvety.
So I would say so far, so good, and I'll definitely keep using
(12:07):
it, and I think Tilly wants totry it now as well.
But now also, this serum ofplenty that I was talking to you
about last time has arrivedafter being out of stock for six
(12:27):
months.
Apparently, it took so long tocome back into stock because
because it is now a new formula,so I'm not really even sure
that I need to use it now.
I have the snail cream, but Imight as well try it now that I
(12:53):
have it in my hot little hands.
It in my hot little hands.
The tagline of this serum isaging brilliantly, so that's
encouraging.
It is really not what Iexpected.
(13:22):
It arrived firstly in a verynice, quite large box, and it
seems as though you have toactually activate it.
So there are two bottles, andone of the bottles is called you
(13:42):
never guess the activator, andapparently by mixing it fresh it
will maximize the potency ofthe formula.
But it does have a use-by dateof six months after you mix it.
So that's interesting.
(14:03):
I won't mix it right now, but Iwill do that next time.
I leave you a message and I'mhoping to order something else
which you will find interesting, that is, if you haven't already
(14:25):
heard of it.
It's something called Eau deSpace, which is a perfume, and
it literally is supposed tosmell like space, and it's for
men and women.
Now, I don't know if smellinglike space is necessarily a good
(14:51):
thing.
It was designed originally totrain astronauts on how outer
space smells and has been on themarket since 2020, so people
must still be using and likingit.
(15:13):
However, I don't think it willbe one of my go-to perfumes and
I'm going to buy it just becauseit sounds fascinating and I'd
like to try it myself and seewhat space is supposed to smell
(15:39):
like, and it will also be funnyto see what the boys, and maybe
even the dog, think of thefragrance too.
I've checked out a few reviewsand it doesn't sound too great,
(16:02):
to be honest.
People say it smells like truckfumes, burning metal and
overheating brake pads.
People also describe that theycan smell burnt cookies that are
(16:24):
topped with rubber.
Some people, surprisingly, mention overtones of raspberry
and walnut, which is sounding abit more promising, but I'm
really not quite sure what toexpect, and I'll let you know
(16:49):
when I can find some.
It seems as though I might haveto order from their US site,
and it also looks like they sellsomething called Odaluna, which
(17:10):
is supposed to smell like themoon, so I will also read some
reviews on that one as well, just to see which one is going
to be the best one to order, andI'll keep you posted.
(17:33):
And again, I'm wondering is thissomething that you've heard of?
Thanks?
Thanks again for your messageand all of your updates.
Answer to your computerquestion no, I still haven't
(17:55):
even opened the laptop.
It's going to be the firstblack laptop I ever have, so I
can't wait to see it.
But I'm just working out how totransfer files and where to
transfer them from, so I need abit of time to be able to do
(18:22):
that.
But mostly, I'm looking forwardto seeing what it looks like,
and I might even put a couple ofspecial stickers on it too and
decorate it.
Anyway, have a wonderful timeaway.
(18:43):
I hope you come back feelingrefreshed.
Have a wonderful time away.
I hope you come back feelingrefreshed and relaxed and, most
of all, stay nice and healthyand I'll leave another message
(19:05):
soon.
And also, we do need toactually have a phone call again
soon as well, so we can speakin real time.
I'm looking forward to that.
Take care and bye for now you.
