Jacquie (00:01):
Welcome to the Day-to-Day Podcast, calm
Conversations with a Friend, spoken by Jacquie Joy, and you
are listening to Episode 2.
You decide to check yourmessages.

(00:23):
One new voicemail it's from oneof your friends.
You decide it's time to sitdown, make yourself comfortable

(00:48):
and have a listen.
Hey, how's your week going sofar?
I know you said you were goingto be busy, mainly with work,
but I hope you've had some timeto relax and look after yourself
.
Well, I've been looking aftermyself and my stomach because I

(01:11):
finally got the Traeger smokerfixed up, so it's pulled pork
time again.
Also, we got given a lovelytray for the smoker so we can
actually cook vegetables in itas well.
We're very excited about usingthat.

(01:34):
It was a bit of a process toget it fixed.
The barbecue man had to comeback three times and pull it all
apart and replaced a fewcomponents initially, but in the
end he had to replace the wholecontrol board.
But it was worth it and thesmell of the barbecue in the

(02:02):
neighborhood is just a veryspecial smell.
It makes you, it's verymouth-watering and it's quite
different to the typical Aussiebarbecue smell.
It would be the sort of smellthat in America you would be a

(02:23):
lot more used to, whereassmokers here in Australia aren't
as popular yet.
As well as us being excitedabout having pulled pork again,
the neighbours are also veryexcited, and they're excited

(02:44):
because when we do a pulled porkon Sundays, we make multiple
pulled porks for theneighbourhood.
This time we just made a porkfor Tilly and her family and, as
you know, she's an excellentcook.
This is the neighbour with thebroken ping pong table and who

(03:10):
made those delicious cakes thatI was telling you about.
Last week Tilly sent me photosof those cakes.
There were 48 of them, allcovered with chocolate icing.
I think there's another namefor icing, I'm just trying to

(03:30):
remember it Frosting.
I might have to get back to youabout that.
I'm sure you'll know what Imean.
It's that thicker icing stylethat's quite popular at the
moment, and she did threedifferent designs in the end for
the icing decoration.

(03:51):
One of them was the chocolatesprinkles, the other one was the
gold stars, and then she hadwhite and gold like really thick
hundreds and thousandssprinkled on top.

(04:11):
Tilly bought some veryprofessional looking cardboard
cake trays and sent them off tothe party in these cake trays.
So the cakes all lookedextremely professionally done
and were presented really,really well.
I asked if she'd had anyfeedback on the cakes and she

(04:37):
said they were very muchappreciated and didn't last very
long at all.
So that made her happy, and Idid catch up with her in person
on Sunday night when I wasdropping off the pulled pork, I
happened to walk past that pingpong table which hadn't moved

(05:00):
and the hinge still looked alittle broken.
So nothing has changed there.
Tilly made me a coleslaw, one ofher very special coleslaws.
The special thing about thiscoleslaw is that, firstly, it's

(05:22):
moist, but not too moist moist, but it is beautifully flavoured.
The flavour of apple just addsa lovely sweetness to it, which
personally I adore.
Also, the dressing doesn't seemto be too mayonnaise-y, if that

(05:45):
makes sense.
Also, the flavour really packsa punch, meaning that it just
has a beautiful burst in yourmouth, and I think this is
because she spends so much timecutting up each ingredient into

(06:12):
very, very small cubes, ratherthan the coleslaw you get in the
shops, which has very long, bigger cuts of cabbage, celery
etc.
So we were very, very lucky toget a large tub of coleslaw, but

(06:36):
we were even more lucky to alsoget mac and cheese to accompany
apple pork and it was a largetray of mac and cheese,
absolutely delicious.

(06:57):
I did sample it when I went topick it up, because I have not
had mac and cheese for years, Idon't know why, because I really
love it.
Now this mac and cheese wasincredible and I found out what

(07:18):
she did use in the mix.
I still don't think I couldcook it as well as she did, but
apparently, well, I know youlike mac and cheese, so I'm
going to tell you what she usedin it.
It was a mix of sharp cheddarapparently the brand is Thomas

(07:40):
Dux D-U-X which is aged 24months.
Sounds like a fine wine whichwould be aged a lot longer.
Of course, normal, just thegrated cheddar and parmesan.
But then she had a lovely mixof onion powder, garlic powder,

(08:06):
mustard powder which I have notused for years and also salt.
I'm sure she won't mind mesharing the recipe with you, but
it was incredible.
But it was incredible and Ifelt very lucky to be able to

(08:29):
give her a pulled pork and getthis delicious mac and cheese
and coleslaw as amazing sidedishes for our dinner.
When she was giving me the macand cheese plate, I noticed her
fingers looked a little stainedor dark, as if she'd been doing

(08:51):
some painting, and she said thatthe dark stains were actually
from the chocolate icing she'dspent the day doing the day
before for the cakes and it wasa little hard to wash off, so

(09:14):
that was rather unusual.
Anyway, we're very lucky tohave excellent neighbours and
everyone is looking forward tothe next round of pulled pork
and coleslaw, hopefully nextweekend.

(09:36):
I finally brought those siliconcupping jars we were talking
about.
As I was saying, I had alwaysused the old style cupping jars
where you had to put a liveflame into the cup and then put
it onto the skin just to createthe vacuum and the suction, but

(10:02):
these ones you can squeeze asyou put them onto the skin and
they attach.
So thanks for the tip.
With that, it sounds likeyou've used these successfully,
so I think they're similar tothe ones that you've had and

(10:23):
used.
I love reading the instructionsfor these and the effects.
Apparently, as well as beinguseful for boosting circulation
and relieving muscle pain, itclaims that it's going to reduce

(10:45):
cellulite.
In fact, it says it's veryeffective against cellulite,
stretch marks and scars.
I wonder how true that is.
How, anyway, we'll see.
It does claim it will relax mybody as well.

(11:06):
Anyway, I'm looking forward totrying those.
I've got two medium-sized onesand two small ones.
I'll let you know how I go withthem, but I plan to use them on
my neck and shoulders.
The trick is to get a flatsurface that they can attach to,

(11:28):
so that's why I got the smallerones.
Anyway, let's see how they work.
The other interesting healthhack that I'm going to be using
again is using our ice bath, which I'm not sure if I've told

(11:49):
you about this before.
I haven't used it for a whileand it was broken.
The pipes were broken.
It's an outdoor bath.
It's something that isinflatable, but it's extremely
sturdy, and you connect it to acooling pump.

(12:12):
The hoses are about five sixmetres long and the attachments
to the cooling pump werestarting to leak.
So we've upgraded the pipes andhave reattached them now, and

(12:34):
it looks much better.
The insulation of the pipes isa lot more effective and it
looks like they're using somesort of new material, whereas
the old ones had started to welldisintegrate because they were
surrounded in a foam-typematerial.

(12:57):
Because they were surrounded ina foam-type material, the great
thing about having an outdoorice bath, especially in this
climate is that you can have anice bath in the sun.
If you choose the right time ofthe day to have a bath, that is
which is the perfectcombination, and it makes it a

(13:21):
lot easier to get used to again.
I'm looking forward to usingthat again.
It gave me a lot of energy whenI used it it was probably over
a year ago now.
I also find it does help mewith extra fluid in my body and

(13:48):
I always feel much bettermuscle-wise when I have a nice
bath.
When I have a nice bath, mymuscles feel more toned without
even exercising, so you have tolove that.
I'll start at a fairly warmtemperature initially, probably

(14:10):
about 17 degrees, which is notvery cold, but I hope to stay in
there for 15 to 20 minutesinitially.
Then over a period of weeks Iexpect I'll be able to bring the
temperature down to 12 or 13.
We'll see.

(14:31):
It always takes a little bit oftime and, most importantly, I
want to spend 15-20 minutes ineach bath so I can't make it too
cold because, as I've learnedfrom previous experiences, it
takes a while to warm up againafterwards.

(14:52):
That is also the benefit ofhaving an outdoor ice bath.
It means you can also have asunbake afterwards, just a short
one to warm yourself up again.
The other benefit that I findby having an outdoor ice bath is

(15:18):
that afterwards I can alsospend some time grounding with
my feet well, my bare feet onthe grass, which is lovely.
It just makes you feelreinvigorated.
I'll let you know how the firstice bath goes.

(15:40):
What have you been doing thisweek so far to help your body
stay nice and limber?
I know you like stretching, ifyou can each day.
I meant to ask you last timedid you have a chance to try the
leg stretches that I suggested?

(16:00):
Let me know how you went withthose.
Certainly also, using thetennis ball against the side of
the leg is a fantastic way toloosen up the iliotibial band.
I think people call it the ITB.

(16:21):
I can see why it's a bigmouthful otherwise.
Anyway, it's quite easy.
Again, you only need to put thetennis ball between your leg
and the wall and put pressure onthree different spots for 10

(16:42):
seconds in each spot, threetimes, which would make it a
minute and a half in total.
So it's definitely worth trying.
I find it really useful if Iget sore knees the other thing
that I'm going to find in mycupboard of sports equipment,

(17:09):
which is rather messy at themoment and needs a little bit of
decluttering, is the sportsband that I purchased a year or
so ago.
It's a well you can getdifferent strengths of the
sports bands and it's a lightone, so it's a good way to start

(17:31):
, but I'll be looking atstarting that up next week as
well, and I'll just have it nearmy desk.
Actually, this is the plan.
I do have to find it first andthat will remind me when I'm

(17:51):
having a work break to pick itup and stretch my arms behind my
back so I can help keep myposture in check.
Anyway, I'll talk a bit moreabout that next time and I'm
keen to hear what you've been upto.

(18:12):
Thanks for asking about the 80sparty.
We had a lot of fun and I'llsend you through some pictures
now of our costumes and how theylooked, and also a few of the
other costumes there.
There was a lot of reflectiveglasses, lacy tops, leopard skin

(18:49):
pants, lots of light blue andpink eyeshadow and bright
lipstick.
My brother came to the party, which was a lovely surprise, and
he came as an 80s rocker, complete with long hair, which
was, of course, a wig, a rockand roll bandana and the

(19:11):
reflective glasses.
So he certainly very muchlooked the part.
One of the other party goerswent as a rocker as well, and he
was wearing fake tattoo sleeves, which I hadn't seen before,
and they were well, from adistance, very convincing and

(19:36):
looked.
He really looked the part.
So the host did up an amazing80s playlist on Spotify, so I'll
get a link for you and sendthat through, just so you can
hear some of the best songs ofthe 80s.

(19:56):
Most of them are one-hitwonders, of course, but they
certainly are a lot of fun todance and sing to.
I find, with a lot of songsfrom the 80s, that they're quite
repetitive and catchy.
So even if you haven't heardthe song by the time you're

(20:21):
about one minute into the song, you already know the chorus,
feel like you've heard it beforeand are singing along.
It would be a good playlistactually to do housework too,
because it does make you smile.
Anyway, I'll send that through.

(20:46):
The playlist was played a fewtimes because the party went for
about eight hours and it feltlike it went very quickly Lots
of great conversation, laughs, great food, and then we were
able to, as a bonus walk homebecause they don't live far from

(21:10):
our house.
That's probably enough for now.
I do need to let you know howthe music set is going as well.
You were asking about that, soI'll save that for next time.
Take care, looking forward tohearing what you've been up to,

(21:41):
and thanks for listening.
Enjoy the rest of your week, you.
