Jacquie (00:01):
Welcome to the Day-to-Day Podcast, calm
Conversations with a Friend, spoken by Jacquie Joy, and you
are listening to Episode 5.
You decide to check yourmessages.

(00:23):
One new voicemail it's from oneof your friends.
You decide it's time to sitdown, make yourself comfortable

(00:58):
and have a listen Music.
He I thought I'd start myconversation a little bit
differently today, with thesound of a noisy minor bird
tweeting.
It was tweeting away while Iwas just in the ice bath and was
a welcome distraction.
I don't know if you have thesetypes of birds there, but they

(01:19):
are only tiny.
They have little grey bodiesand yellow bills and by
themselves, hey, they're not toonoisy, but when you get them in
groups and they get excited, they make a lot of noise.

(01:43):
They make a lot of noise.
This tiny little bird wasmaking a solo tweeting sound
because I think it was the onlybird in the nest waiting for its
mum and dad to come back withsome food.
So it's wonderful to hear thatyou're back safe and sound and

(02:11):
what a rejuvenating trip for you.
Are you feeling a little morefit too, with all of your extra
walking?
I bet you are.
All of your extra walking?
I bet you are.
I haven't been doing muchwalking lately, but have been

(02:32):
keeping up with a bit of dailyyoga.
I'll usually do a few poses inthe morning before I get out of
bed.
The two yoga poses I'm doing atthe moment are the very simple
ones the upward-facing dog andthe downward-facing dog.

(03:03):
So that's been great for myspinal flexibility, first thing.
Also, I'll look at my Instagramfeed, which I have filled with

(03:24):
exercises and also well-beingposts.
So this morning I automaticallylooked at my socials and,
instead of getting distracted,it reminded me that I needed to
do something for myself, and Ifound a post this morning that

(03:44):
showed me a way to reduceanxiety where you stimulate your
vagus nerve, which soundscomplicated, but it just
involved putting your indexfinger gently into your ear,

(04:11):
your index finger gently intoyour ear, pushing down and
turning forwards and back like acircle a couple of times in
each earlobe.
Apparently, this reducesanxiety and I found it a very
relaxing way to start the day.
I have to tell you about areally good food hack.

(04:34):
We went out to the local tavernthe other night for my
brother's first birthday dinnerand I ordered some lovely
oysters, and I'm just trying toremember what I had for my main

(04:57):
meal prawns and pasta.
Very nice and pasta Very nice.
However, the friend across thetable well, she had a steak
burger, which doesn't sound tooexciting, but she said that I

(05:22):
had to try some, so I actuallycut off a piece and I took a
bite.
Oh my gosh, this Philly steakburger was something else,
mainly because the bun was madeof cheesy garlic bread and it

(05:43):
was a really soft cheesy garlicbread.
Inside it had a lovely tenderrib steak and the sauce was a
bit interesting and differenttoo Caramelised onion, grilled

(06:06):
capsicum, which I love, and acheese sauce.
So super simple but reallydelicious.
And it's making my mouth wateras I speak about it, and so I'm
going to try this at home now,and the addition of the cheesy

(06:31):
garlic bread will make my homeburgers a lot more interesting
and I'll add the caramelizedonion and cheese sauce to the
capsicum.
But I really wish I was atSarab eth's at the moment.

(06:53):
That looks like an amazingrestaurant.
The food photos are divine.
I can't believe their website.
The food just jumps out of thepictures and it makes me really
want to eat.

(07:14):
Well, I can't decide, but if Ihad to, maybe a lobster roll and
some pancakes with berries, Ibet it has the most amazing
smell when you walk into therestaurant.

(07:34):
I'm guessing maybe the smell ofcoffee mixed with fresh baking
bread type smells.

(08:08):
Speaking of coffee smells, wewent to an open house inspection
recently and the real estateagent had turned the coffee pot
on.
So we walked in and you couldjust smell this delicious coffee
wafting through the entirehouse.
Through the entire house.
Also, they had soft pianoinstrumental tracks playing in
the background and we all justimmediately said we could live

(08:30):
here.
It was quite a large ceilingedhome, so having that warmth
provided by the coffee smell andthe soft piano sounds gently
reverbing throughout the spacereally gave it a sense of home,

(09:24):
home.
I also just digging it up nowto try and remember a few of the
songs that were on there.
It's called CalmingInstrumental Covers instrumental

(09:46):
covers, and there are songs onthere such as like classics like
Blowing in the Wind.
Um, Let it Be.
Let me scroll up here.
.
.
Rocket man, Goodbye YellowBrick Road, Viva La Vida.

(10:08):
So much like that.
I'll send you through the linkand you might like to try and
play the playlist next whenyou're painting, or even when
the cats might need a littlecalming down, or just when
you're having a morning tea, butI've certainly enjoyed playing

(10:31):
it at home in the background, just as ambient music.
So you've been sending me somebeautiful, colorful photos of
landscapes with red, green, yellow leaves gorgeous and

(10:56):
everything is just green here atthe moment.
And everything is just greenhere at the moment, except I
will send you a photo of a treethat is very special in Brisbane
this time of year.
I first learned about it when Iwas going to university and the

(11:20):
drive leading up to theuniversity was lined with these
jacaranda trees, and every timewe seemed to have end of year
university exams, thesejacaranda trees would come in to
an amazing purple bloom andblossom a huge amount of flowers

(11:49):
which regularly fall off andprovide it's like a purple
carpet to walk on when you'rewalking down the sidewalk.
My friend from school livesover the other side of Brisbane

(12:11):
and she's been going for walksand photographing jacaranda
trees for walks andphotographing jacaranda trees.
So I will send one of herphotos through so you can see
what they look like.
The jacaranda blossom remindsme of the stunning Japanese

(12:37):
white cherry blossoms, obviously, but purple, so see what you
think.
Also, she did send me photosthrough of some magnolias, which
here are usually very expensive.

(12:57):
To buy A basic small magnoliaat the garden shop would be
about $100.
And it is often hard to getthem to flower to flower.

(13:24):
But we're lucky enough where wehave two magnolia trees in our
garden.
One was here when we moved inand it was tiny, but it seems to
be in the perfect place out thefront of our yard and it has
grown up to be a very large tree.

(13:46):
So many people visiting orwalking by would comment to us

(14:07):
how beautiful the flowers wereand apparently it's fairly rare
to get these trees or plants inblossom.
We managed to do a cutting fromthe tree and have since grown a
second one, so obviously oursoil and position for these

(14:32):
trees in full sun seems to beworking.
So that's one of our mosthighly rated garden plants, I
would think, very pretty.
They do attract bees Not toomany bees but that's just one

(14:55):
thing that we need to take careof, because the second one is
right near the stairs, so duringbee season we tend to walk up
the other side of the staircase.
Speaking of bees, I rememberonce I was inside the house

(15:20):
upstairs and I heard anabsolutely hugely loud humming
sound, or maybe a buzzing sound, coming from outside.
It sounded like thousands andthousands of bees and what do

(15:45):
you know?
I walked outside and sawsomething like I've never, ever
seen before and it was the mostginormous swarm of bees.
And this big swarm had stoppedand it looked like it was

(16:09):
checking out maybe the magnoliasand our large macadamia tree
out the front, as if they werelooking for a place to stop and
call home.
I was really hoping that theywould consider another place, as

(16:36):
this was going to be way toosmall for them, be way too small
for them.
The whole swarm was the samesize as our very large macadamia
tree, so they definitely neededto pick a larger residence.
Luckily for us, after aboutfive very long minutes, they

(17:09):
decided to move on, and you wereasking about the music show.
Well, we did it and it went downreally well.
Most importantly, we had a lotof fun and I must say we sounded
like we'd been playing togetherfor years, and that was the

(17:32):
feedback from the audience whichsurprised me a lot.
It just worked out well.
It's tricky when you're playingjust with two guitars to stay
in sync, but somehow we did that.

(17:55):
It was a great turnout.
The venue was incredible.
We had lights, we had a greatbig stage and it was set up like
a movie theatre with verycomfortable seating and also bar

(18:16):
tables at the front.
So it was a very comfortablesetup and we had our neighbours
there supporting us.
It was very nice of them todrive 45 minutes to come and see

(18:38):
us play.
It was so special to be invitedto play music in the same
building as these threeamazingly talented ladies.
We did our set first and youcould hear them sitting in the

(19:00):
front row singing along backingvocals to all of the songs we
were singing, which was sospecial.
The theatre that we played inwas part of a bigger precinct.
Part of that bigger precincthad a very large grassy area and

(19:28):
when we arrived, that area wasfull of food trucks and a lot of
the local people and theirfamilies were there.
It's a free community event, sothere was a great turnout.
I enjoyed a couple of chipotlechicken soft tacos I think

(19:53):
that's how you say it chipotlebefore the show.
They were delicious and theperfect food for before singing.
My guitar partner had somespring rolls and they didn't
sound like the perfectperformance food as they were a

(20:17):
little gluggy and didn't seem tosit too well in his stomach,
especially as he wasexperiencing some
pre-performance nerves,understandably, as it had been a
while since he and well, we hadboth played a live performance.

(20:49):
Anyway, it was a wonderfulsuccess and a lot of fun and it
was, I felt, very honoured to bepart of the event.
Well, it's time for me to startsome dinner preparation.

(21:11):
Some simple chicken schnitzelsare on the menu tonight.
I hope you've had a good firstday back at work and that you're
catching up with all of yourholiday washing.
The cats must be very happy tosee you back, looking forward to

(21:34):
chatting again.
I'll speak to you soon.
Take care Bye for now.
